  1. Nice to see this for folks who can't make the games "in person"...UNT can use the "air time" and this is a pretty decent signal strength as I understand it...GOOD NEWS!
  2. Too Bad for sure, was a good and fair journalist for the most part. We lack so many good journalists these days...he will be missed.
  3. I agree...this looks bad for any home and home extended series with EITHER Baylor or SMU. I hope the athletic dept. is ACTIVELY working on this sore of arrangement with a couple of schools like TCU, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, etc., etc. where UNT could build a "local" rivelry and get some "rears in the seats".
  4. Many thanks to 97and03 for the follow-up info. I did not know that a "stadium fund" already existed. I think it best to let the University handle such donations as they are set up to do such things much better than an "outside" group. And, like GreenJoe I would think most folks would want an acknowledgement from the University and the benfit of Mean Green Club "perks", donation level "perks" for seat locations, etc., etc. Nice to know it is available....Thanks again. Great info.
  5. Good idea...I'll bet we could set up an "account" through student development/athletics/somewhere to do just that, and stay away from all the "work" involved while getting "credit" for our donations and letting UNT get credit for the donations...Gee, why did't I think about that in the first place? There are folks in Development that do this sort of thing for a living...and do it well...Let's follow-up on this. 97 and 03...you are "on campus" right? Could you contact development or the athletic dept and just "feel this idea out" (no comments folks! ) for those of us who would be interested in getting something like this going in the name of the members of GMG.Com?
  6. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL! You gotta believe! GO MEAN GREEN..BUY SEASON TICKETS!
  7. This thread makes me 100% certain it is time for FOOTBALL season to get going!
  8. Folks, one way to do it would be to simply open an account at a financial institution designeted for the purposes of collecting funds for a "joint" GMG.com donation at whatever amount and time is deemed appropriate. We could set up a committee and some by-laws, etc. made up of willing GMG.com members to track record and "watch over" the funds. If no stadium program was announced within a certain amount of time, all donations could be returned to the donees. I know this sounds easy, but am sure it is a bit more involved. I would be happy to serve as treasurer, open the account at my bank and serve on the "committee". I am sure we could meet on a somewhat regiular basis on campus...I can set up a place to meet. Yes, there would be a bit of "faith" involved on the part of the donees, but this could work. Perhaps one of our GMG.com members is a lawyer or CPA who would want to serve also and could held draw up a "legal" document that would work as the framework and help us with whatever tax issues we might face...perhaps we just need to create a 50 C3 non-profit for the sole purpose of raising such funds. That would keep the $$$ out of the hands of the university "until" (and it will happen sooner than later) the appropriate announcements were made and enough $$$ were compiled to make that donation. Just realize, that your donations to this program would not "count" toward Mean Green Club sttus for seat locations and other "perks" of membership. So, one would have to make certain that this program did not "reduce" donations that would otherwise go to the program. The point here is to help UNT build that new stadium, not to "punish" UNT by withholding donations. OK...any thoughts? If you want to private message me about this please feel free. Your thoughts and suggestions welcome.
  9. Hey, great idea for the tax rebate checks...if you get one...how about using it to buy UNT season football/basketball tickets???? Now that's an idea that will STIMULATE the economy!!!! Nice...very nice....almost "free" tickets...if, of course you were not getting back your own money that the folks in Washington DC should not have taken from you in the first place. But, that is a whole different subject, isn't it? BUY MEAN GREEN SEASON TICKETS WITH TAX REBATE CHECKS!!!!!!!
  10. One of the things that makes this nation of our the greatest on earth is that we allow idiots like this to exist and spread their venom, half-truths, etc., etc. And, we allow senile ex-presidents to trip around the world making big-time folls of themselves if they care to do so. Is this stuff treason? Probably not, but is it right? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I have a son and daughetr-in-law currently serving in the Navy, I have a nephew who just returned safely (thank God) from his second one-year tour in Iraq, my daughter is an Air Force verteran and I am an Air Force veteran...and I do not appreciate these IDIOTS one little bit...but, it is the GREATEST nation on earth and we tolerate these fools because we ARE the United States of America. God bless and protect our fine men and women who serve this great nation of ours so fools like this can send these type of letters.
  11. Interesting idea. I wonder how many GoMeanGreen folks would be willing to "donate" to a GoMeanGreen stadium fund if one were set up and monitored correctly? I work for a financial institution and could certainly open an account and would be willing to act as "treasurer" if something like this really did get going? Any thoughts? And, yes, joing the Mean Green Club and buying season tickets is critical to getting a new stadium built and in developing some "respect" for the program around the country. Let's "show"...time to put up or shut up as they say....what the Mean Green Nation is all about this season by buying tickets and actually attending games...that goes for students and others who like to tailgate but never seem to make it inside the stadium for the actual game! Instead of "harping" so much about a new stadium...let's fill the one we have this season! How about that for a GoMeanGreen.com "campaign"?
  12. As I understand it from my study, not all the German troops facing the Allies on D-Day were "inexperienced" as you report. The Allies faced withering fire from "dug in" positions in many areas of the landings. Positions manned by experienced and even SS troops. While losses on the Eastern front were SIGNIFICANTLY higher some of that can be attributed to the "stubborness" of both Hitler and Stalin. Stalin cared little for the "common soldier" and felt large losses were quite acceptable. Hitler continued to make blunder after blunder on the Eastern front and had little interest in following the recommendations from his generals in the field. Attacking the Soviet Union was probably the biggest blunder Hitler made and certainly spelled doom for Germany. Stalin was content to "sit it out" pretty much and take the spoils he and Hitler were going to split after the war, but Germany attacked and that brought the Soviets into the war against Germany. Churchill and Roosevelt both knew Stalin was not a true "partner", but they made a "pact with the devil" to win the war. Germany was not a "fangless tiger" at the time of the D-Day invasion of France, but it was certainly wounded badly...but you know what happens when a tiger is wounded! Lots of fight left before, during and after the actual D-Day invasion. Just check with some of the vets of D-day and "the Bulge" and the march on to Berlin. The history of WWII is VERY interesting...I often wonder why the war in the Pacific is not given as much attention as the European conflict. There are, of course, some interesting speculation on that point as well.
  13. So, FFR...just why did the fire marshall on site give the go ahead for the fireworks in that type/amount of wind? Maybe he too was "excited" abut Jennie Finch pitching and had his mind on something else. How much trouble is the guy going tobe in for that call? My guess is that he/she had some "pressure" for the event organizers to go ahead. What do you think? Any "discussions" about this around the firehouse these days? My experience has shown that these guys make the proper call the vast majority of the time...not even sure this wasn't the right call at the time, but perhaps conditions changed for the worse after the go-ahead was given. Any "inside" scoop on this one???
  14. Yes, I seem to remeber some RV comments to that effect, but I do not think I recall that being "exactly" the way it was put...I think it was more like UNT needs to be in the position that they would not play someone who would not come to Denton to play...I think it was in the context of where he wanted to see & UNT go...not where it was at that point....More in the context of "witin 5-6 years UNT SHOULD be in the position....." Obviously UNT and the Mean Green nation is not there as yet...and it is also the responsibility of the Mean Green nation. IF...and it is a bif "if", Fouts had been filled with Mean Green Nation members and visiting team fans on a regular basis during the last five-six years, the story line just might be different, and also UNT may be well ojn the way to opening...not just building...that new stadium. It is a "TEAM" sport, and I think the fans are part of the team. If you want it to happen, get onboard with the Mean Green nation and help it happen by filling Fouts.
  15. Look forward folks...look forward! What is in the past is in the past...that is stating the obvious. But, no one can change the past. The better thought might be just how much better UNT will be THIS season and how that will help our recruiting in the future. I think Dodge and Co. will still have a good class...it is way to early for that "group cry" as was said so well earlier in this thread. I can't believe how negative some folks are...I guess it is just the "off-season" and folks are looking for something to blog about. Who knows...The Mean Green nation is in for a lot better time this season when it comes to wins and losses and in the overall "quality" of play on the field. Dodge Ball is one year more "experienced" and that is a good thing! GO MEAN GREEN! BUY SEASON TICKETS...Buy them NOW! That is what we can all do to help build a new stadium!
  16. Losing Tic is no big deal, and the fact that the subject matter on this board about him is what it is and not his coaching abilities is reason enough that we say "best of luck" at your next stop. Not trying to to say anything negative about Tic...he did a good job while at UNT it seems to me....and he probably needs to move on and see if he can get a head coaching job again sometime, but UNT needs coaches whose "story line" does not include such items as Tic's "adventures" Good luck Tic! I wish you luck!
  17. AGREED, but the "wooden bat league" is full of players still trying to "make it", and is great basic hard playing...some still play for the love of the game it seems to me and it was a Denton team...maybe that says something about it too..."A Denton" team, heck Denton has a hard time supporting UNT athletics!
  18. '97 and '03...I hope you are 100% correct in your assumptions rgarding The Mean Green Scholars. It just seems to me that we continue to try to find more and more ways to aid "non-traditional and low-income" students while many other scholarship programs go "wanting" for lack of interest or lack of publicity that they even exist. I just hate to see scholarship programs that reward "middle of the road" academic standards. However, as I have said, I am all in favor of raising scholarship dollars for UNT students...low, middle or high income, traditional or non-traditional, athletic and/or academic, so if this program helps...I say GO FOR IT! I do like that "commitment" required on the part pf the student to "gert more involved" in campus life. Perhaps it will help folks who receive scholarships to stay and actually graduate and then to remember how they were helped with financial aid. I think the level of support for UNT from its alumni base is pretty low and pretty "sad" given the size of its alumni base. I hope this program is successful for the long run! With the southern Dallas campus struggling, should the scholarships in this program focus on students attending that campus? Just a question for thought...I have no idea if that's a good idea or not...just wondering. Good job in your posts on this topic "97 and '03. Nicely done.
  19. Our military leaders DO still have that ability and they are proving it day after day in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Our military is second to none, they just need to get the politicians out of the way sometimes. And, yes, the French Resistance was an essential part of the D-Day landings. Without these very brave fighters D-Day could have turned into a complete disaster! While in Normandy it was interesting to see all the American Flags flying. I would guess I saw more American, British and canadian flags flying than I did French flags. One resident of Normandy told me "we don't like the people in Paris either"! Ha! How funny. They seemed to have the same opinion of "government", and all the "screw-ups they create as we seem to have. The people in Normandy have not forgotten and will not forget! And, just an interesting fact...did you know that Normandy was the only region in France NOT to produce wine? They produce Apple Cider and man is it ever great!
  20. While you will not see much mention of it in the papers today, this is the anniversary of D-Day...the invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France that spelled doom for Hitler's Nazi regime in WWII. I saw no mention of it in today's Dallas Morning News, and that, my friends, is a shame. I know D-Day took place 60+ years ago, but it is a day that we should NEVER forget. More Allied soldiers were killed or wounded on D-Day than I would like to recall. I stood on the beaches at Normandy a couple of years ago, and I can tell you that it took a brave soul to charge that beach under the extremely heavy and accurate fire that the German's were laying down. What allows a soldier to brave that fire is beyond me. I am a Viet Nam era vet, but spent my time in the Air Force in Missouri as a nuclear missle combat crew member, so have not seen combat, and can hardly imagine the situation of actually being "under fire". Let's all remember the brave souls who risked it all...and gave it all...to help defeat Nazi Germany. While we are at it, let's say a prayer for all the men and women in the service of this great nation wherever they may be on the anniversary of D-Day. May God protect and bless them one and all. GOD BLESS AMERICA and the men and women who protect and serve!
  21. KingDL1 .. I agree that the "bumbass" owners are a BIG part of the problem...in fact, you would almost have to be a "Dumbass" to own one in the first place!
  22. WOW.....So, haow many of you folks that dislike RV support the program with your dollars and ticket purchases? Just wondering? I believe folks need to seperate their feelings for the AD from their support of the programs at UNT. If, for whatever reason, you want a new AD, best way is to help fill Fouts and make the program successful so RV could move to someplace like ND! Who wants and AD that was not successful at his/her last gig? And, I think if you will check, RV has been much more successful in the fundraising and facilities building arenas than any of the past AD's...at least in my memory. Can we move on to better and more positive topics ... like the exciting football season the fans of UNT will experience this season under 2nd year head coach Todd Dodge???? GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. I too received the Emerald Scholars letter from Dr. B. Good idea always to look for ways to raise scholarship dollars, but my concern with this one is the low GPA required for the benefit AND the fact that there are a good many programs already in existence at UNT that need help with funding. Why not put the weight of the Prez behind a campaign to raise scholarship dollars across the board...not just for her own personal program? Why couldn't Emerald Scholars be a program reaching across all departments with need for $$$$$, and let the depts. determine GPA levels...it is crazy that a 2.5GPA would get you so high a lecel of funding. To me a 2.5, while decent, is not and exceptional GPA. And, it may depend upon major...is it as hard to maintain a 2.5 with psychology, history, sociology, geography (I put this one in as I have a masters in geography and did not want folks to think I was just picking on the social sciences ) as your major as it is in physics, math, egineering, etc., etc.???? I wonder...seems the Prez is just starting a program of her own that she can "control"....BUT< as I said...I am all for raising scholarship dollars for UNT. I do wonder how great the level of donations back to UNT is from those who have received scholarships to attend? I maintained in excess of a 3.8 GPA as a UNT undergrad and in excess of 3.5 on my MBA program and received absolutely ZERO scholarship dollars! Worked during both programs to help cover the bills...didn't hurt me at all!
  24. Dallas Morning News Sports section on FRiday, June 6th: "Ex-LB Foley Charged After Dog Attack" Gee, guess what kind of dog????? That ever so loveable PIT BULL strikes again! Seems Foley's pit bulls bit a woman and killed her puppy! Just another example of how just simply wonderful the pit bull is to have around!
  25. I would hate to give up a possible home game to play in the Cotton Bowl!
