Baked Potatos In The Oven! Sour Grapes! No Way!
KRAM1 replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
The wedding and reception were GREAT! It was a BIG MEAN GREEN NATION party! I was taking bets that Drex would faint dead away during the ceremony, but he made it through jsut fine...lot's of MEAN GREEN TALK at the reception....lots of excitement surrounding the new football season and other things...other than the Exes name change that is...it was a great time, indeed...and, no fights broke out between rival fraternity members either...maybe that was because the reception was at the church...without booze! See, drex remains sly and smart even in his "advancing" years! LOL! -
Ncaa 2009 Event - Thanks To The Cheerleaders!
KRAM1 replied to LeanMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I totally agree on the "age" perspective thing...just got back from a vacation in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia...I can tell you...WOW! It was like a "kid in a candy store"...as they say, but I was JUST LOOKING! As my dad told me...son, all girls are good, some are just better than others...dob't cull...as you get older you will wish you hadn't!!! Ha. Wise man!!!! WAY TO GO CHEER TEAM! GREAT PR for the Mean Green! -
Folks...bottom line here...tghe fault is Horton's and Horton's alone! Seems he had been gioven more than one opportunity to be successful. Time to place the blame...if blame is the word here...at the feet where it belongs...Horton's. The good news is that he never came and didn't take up development and playing time for a kid who will be successful at UNT. If he was given a scholarship, i assume we can now use it on someone else...that's good news too. For me it would have been worse had he showed up and then left...which history says he would have at some point...probably early! Good luck young Mr. Horton. I hope you get your act together as you are surely wasting some good athletic talent...I wish you a "new" life and success going forward....wherever and whatever that might be. You missed a great opportunity to play for the Mean Green, however.....

Unfortunately, there will always be folks around who defend the pit bull as a great family pet....just like there will always be people around who deny the holocaust (is that how you spell it?), think if you ban all guns that crime will go away, think...... O.K., you get the drift. With some people they clearly cannot see the facts or truth if you served it to them on a silver plate. About all that can be done is to license and fine and perhaps jail the owners of such animals after a tragedy happens...and by then, some innocent chuld or adult has been hurt badly. But, then the owner will claim that the pit bull was alyways very gentle...just don't know what happened...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Have not seen anything about it as yet. I had to pay last year...didn't renew early enough...but this year "it's on the house"...YIPPEE...let's hope they open up more than one line for food this year...what a mess that line was last year! GO MEAN GREEN!

Pray For Our Fellow Poster Drex

CONGRATS DREX....my sympathies to the Mrs. Drex! -
ARMY-NAVY is the reason I love college sports so much! What a geat game...I so want to go to Philly to see that game in person. Had tickets set last year, but ended up not being able to go. I even joined the Navy "Blue-Gold" club ijn oreder to get on the possible ticket list...I guess I'll have to renew just to stay in line! It will be a GREAT game no matter where it is played, but the tradition of Philly is pretty nice! In this case...GO NAVY!!!!!!

Trophy Club???? Did anyone really think that was a good location for such an event? Very difficult to get to at the time of the events...pretty far "out of the way" for folks who work in DFW to get there...and back to work in a reasonable time, etc., etc. I would have gone, but could not take 3-4 hours out of my work day to get to the Trophy Club, attend the event and get back to work. They probably got the location for "free" and a deal on the refreshments, so it made some sense to give it a try...OK, live and learn. Adler is correct in some respects regarding the impact our Prez could and should have on the program. No, she is not responsible for the poor turn outs...that falls at the feet of the athletic dept., their marketing and planning efforts, bout I give them "props" for reaching out and trying to get folks involved. Maybe a few of the "few" who attended will buy some tickets and attend games this year. Some folks in that Trophy Club area must be trying to get some good PR going for the Mean Green. Give them support, and help...it could be a good thing in the long run. Lots of folks across the university and lots of alums and supporters are working hard to try to turn this thing around. Each and every one of them deserve our thanks. It takes a bunch of dedicated...working folks...working over the long haul...who don't "get their panties in a wad" each and every time something looks "wrong" to them or they think someone "goofed" or they think they were snubbed somehow. Man, if I took all that stuff personally, I would have stopped trying, volunteering, donating, buying tickets, etc., etc. a LONG time ago. It is easy to sit back and constantly complain...it is another thing altogether to get off your "duff" and try to be part of the solution. Excuses are "easy" and I am sure they make some folks feel very good about their rationalizations, but they do not help anyone move the program forward. Does all this mean to blindly "follow and believe"? Heck no...but, you have a lot more credibility in talking to folks in the Prez's office, athletic dept., etc., etc. if they recognize you as a doner, a ticket buyer, one who actually attends games and university events, a president's council member, a member of the Mean Green Club and the Exes (oops...Alumni Assoc.). Adler says he has been around the program for 25 years...through think and thin...and yes, he can get pretty frustrated at times, but he continues to work to make this thing better. For me, that's the way to go...make something happen...join the effort...Man, you will get a bit frustrated and "unhappy" at times, but you will have one heck of a great time trying and you will meet and work with some great folks along the way. Come join the ride...you will be glad you did! GO MEAN GREEN!

Experts - How Much Do They Care About Non B C S Teams ?
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
WOW! Someone on this board is talking about bringing men's soccer back to UNT! I LIKE IT! I think the team photo on the the bpard here should be used in all advertising for the season and in all efforts to raise funds for the new stadium. Man, can't lose with those guys! And, what sexy uniforms! UNT could charge a good price to watch those guys play...I'm there for sure! GREAT...JUST GREATNESS! You get my vote for best post today! -

Just more carp that doesn't mean a thing. I know, I know...it is important what the "talking heads" think, but on a beautiful fall Saturday when I am sitting at Fouts watching the Mean green play, I could CARE LESS what the "big time" media think about the Sun Belt. We ARE in the Sun belt, let me be the first to inform you of that, and until we are not in the Sun belt...or until the Sun belt gets some respect nationally...UNT will just have to go about being the best it can be in the Sun belt Conference. UNT cannot do much about what the "talking heads" think, but UNT CAN do something about winning more games. And that, Mean Green Nation members, will do all so much good for UNT. I can only worry about what UNT CAN control...what UNT can't control is out of my "care zone". The argument about BCS vs non-BCS schools and conferences will go on forever whether UNT is part of the Sun Belt or not and whether UNT becomes the next App. St. or Boise State or not...can't control or worry about that. Let UNT start winning again with the exciting brand of football coach Dodge, his staff and players are giving us these days and the "chips" will fall in the right direction for the Mean Green faithful. So, what can we all do? We CAN get our rear ends in the seats at every home game, and we can bring friends with us. See you at Fouts! GO MEAN GREEN..... -
O.K., it is time to wish drex well as this Saturday he will join the ranks of the "married men"! I couldn't pass up placing this on GMG.com....just when would some momentous occasion like this come around again? Some said this would never happen in the first place. So, did anyone see the weather forcast for Hell? I guess there is a freeze coming and watch out you might get hit by a "flying pig"...because I guess "pigs do fly" after all. Join me in wishing drex the very best. Well, it's not drex that needs our good wishes, it is the lovely lady who has lost her mind and agreed to marry him! O.K., couldn't resist that one either! Way to go drex, you are a lucky fella as I know the "future" Mrs. Drex. Wishing you all the best! GO drex!

Proposing A New Policy
KRAM1 replied to Cr1028's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
My Volvo S-60 is getting 28.4 MPG on my drive to and from work. Not bad, huh? When I decided to start driving a bit more "sanely" the average was 24.2. So, just by being a bit better "citizen" on the highway, I have upped my mileage a pretty nice amount. Might I suggest others start "slowing down" a bit? Hey, you might even save a buck or two...and that's always a good thing. MORE BEER MONEY! -
I, too, thought it was a bit "ODD" to get a renewal request in the mail without even the hint of a schedule, but I guess the "sweetner" was the offer to renew at last year's price and get two "free" tickets to boot. But, do not know what "savings" it would be as I do not recall a price listing if you "waited" until after the deadline to renew....Hmmmmmmmm...what was that my mother told me about "blind faith"?????

I can't at all get worked up about this. It was time that packer retired...past time in my opinion. I think Kellogg will do a great job. I am looking forward to the "Packer-less" era!
-
You will know in plenty of time to be in your seats for the games!

Most of this is "old stuff" and of no consequence going forward. We can dwell on the past and the mistakes made, or we can look to what i believe to be a very bright future indeed. I guess GMG.com is like the "mainstream media" in some respects in that positive news and "good news" just doesn't "sell". Fo me, the past is the past...can't do anything about that...let's try to have some impact on the things we can change...like: 1) Mean Green Club Memberships 2) Alumni Assoc. (Exes) Memberships 3) Scholarship donations 4) Facilities donations 5) Ticket sales 6) Attendance levels (far different than ticket sales) 7) Positive comments in public about UNT (overall...not just athletics) 8) Getting personally involved in UNT organizations and programs 9) Positive thought and comments regarding UNT on GMG.com (don't ever think that only the Mean Green Nation is reading what is written here) 10) Support of our coaches and administrators, professors, students, etc., etc. If we, who claim to be members of the MEAN GREEN NATION, would look to those 10 items, I do think we could help move things along (including the new stadium) much faster. GO MEAN GREEN! BUY SEASON TICKETS! JOIN THE ALUMNI ASSOC. ! JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB!

No More North Texas Exes To Kick Around Anymore
KRAM1 replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Nice to see the comments...all are vaild in one way or another, but what really matters is that a good many of us are actually trying (with our volunteer work on the part of the Exes aka Alumni Assoc.) to make a difference and to help others re-connect or connect for the first time with "their university". I get a bit tired of reading the same negative comments from pretty much the same folks every time something comes out about the Alumni Association, the Exes, the Athletic dept., the stadium plans, the University in general. I know it is "fun" to gripe all the time, but, folks, look around peiople are TRYING to make things better and move UNT forward, not only in academics, but across the board and that incldes the connection of the scholl with its alumni base. As someone else said...and as I have said many times on this board previously...get involved...give of your time and your talent and things will get better. Everyone has great ideas and thougts to share, but it is amazing how easy it is to say "how it should be done" when one is not involved other than on a chat board, it is one thing altogether different when you are having to arrange schedules to make meetings, change plans when help is needed and to then hear how someone else could or would have done it "better" when they don't even show up fro the free beer! YOU can help make UNT a better place for students and alumni...get involved...stop the "high whine", make the effort and you will really enjoy what you get back from your efforts. I am not trying to come off as some sort of polly-anna here, because I know there are lots of areas where change is needed across the board at UNT, but folks, things ARE improving...jsut look at any area...inclusing the Alumni Assoc. and Athletics, and you will find lots of positves...focus on the positive for a change...you might just like where it takes you.... GO MEAN GREEN! -
GREAT IDEA! I could care less if it came from the AD, the Head Coach, mandy or anyone else associated with the university...heck, it may have come from Prez GB herslf...don't care...what i care about is the fact that this is a GREAT IDEA. Yes, the name is important, but not nearly as important as getting something like this off and running. Whether it is Dodge's idea or not, the fact that he would support and participate actively in the program is GREAT NEWS!!!! WAY TO GO MEAN GREEN...I see many many indications that the "stinkin' thinking" around UNT and UNT Athletics is being left behind for positive forward looking thinking. OK, so I am a bit optimistic here, but, folks good things are happening...too many prople on this board cannot seem to see the positive in anything, but positive things are happening all over the campus....this is yet another idea. Now, let's do all we can to give it our support! GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS...JOIN THE EXES...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...and, go to the games!

Personally, I think quite the majority of the PGA Tour players are unhappy that Tiger will be out the rest of the year. These guys are competitors and they can ALL play! I think they want to go up against Tiger so they can "beat the best". If you can't beat the current best, then you cannot be the best. Rocco had a great time playing Tiger. Do you think he would have wanted Tiger to withdraw with the hurt leg? I doubt it very seriously. Tiger is GREAT for golf and helps others be even better. I think Phil M. would like it much better if he won with Tiger in the field than without. I don't think the players, the Tour itself, the sponsors, the tournaments or the fans are happy that Tiger is out for the year. Put it in terms of football...would you rather see BCS #1 play #2 or BCS #1 play non-BCS #125????? Would BCS #2 rather play BCS #1 or #125? I think you get my drift here. The only guys that might be smiling are the ones who would not get a spot in a tournament if Tiger was taking a spot. My guess, even they wish Tiger was in it! Just me...

Pretty nice new cap....glad to see UNT caps "out and about"...I get tired of seeing "other" local schools represeneted with little or no UNT gear! NICE!
-
I join every Mean green Nation fan that I know with the wish of nothing but the best for Johnny Q. Great kid with great abilities, and a work ethic that is second to none. All he needs is a "real" opportunity to showcase what he can do, and he'll make an impact in the leagure for many years...same "stuff" was said about W. Welker and now they are comparing draftees to Wes Welker!!!! "They" said that Dat wastoo small to play linebacker in the NFL...and didn't they say that same thing about that "other" kid (like W. Welker) from Texas tech who is now a new Cowboys LB after many solid and pro bowl years in Miami????? It isn't always about size...it's about "want to" and ability so ver often. JQ has both the ability and the "want to"! GO JQ!

While UTA is no "powerhouse" UNT has had a bit of trouble beating them in recent years (when they got the opportunity to catually play each other). Could this be at least a start to some "local don't miss" games???? Wow, what a concept...play teams from the local area that will draw some interest and fans in the seats. This could be the start of a trend! Let's hope so. Did you attend the UNT-OSU game at The Pit to start off last year's season??? Great attendance...and an even nicer win for UNT! keep the "local" schools coming to The Pit and we'll see crowd sizes increase! GO MEAN GREEN!
-
So, Green Mean, what you are saying is that women can be bought?????? Hmmmmmmmmmm...interesting concept to ponder. Like I have always said...my wife is not for sale for any amount of money...But...I might rent her for awhile.......Man, I do hope she is not reading this thread. I could be in a bit of "hot water" over that one...but, those of you who know me, know that situation is not very rare at all!
-
Had not seen the article referring to Tiger being "out" for the rest of the season...WOW...too bad for professional golf. Now, that's one professional sport I can follow (and do)...these guys (and the ladies too) play by the rules...or they get called out! Tiger will break every record in golf (except Byron's win streak) IF (it's a big IF) he stays healthy long enough. With his knee problems flaring up at age 32, you have to wonder if he can hold out "health-wise" long enough. He has got to be the finest golfer EVER! Bar none...I know you can argue for the "Golden Bear" as he has the most majors right now, but, I think that clearly Tiger is the best golfer to EVER hit the links. He is "something else"...I would venture to say that he is the best overall professional athlete in the world today! The thing that makes him that much better than everyone else on the tour is his mental game. Every player on the tour is a BIG TIME golfer and all have plenty of skills to win on the PGA (or they would not be there in the fiorst place), but from where I sit, I do not see anyone with the mental game that Tiger has. Amazing athlete...and a pretty darn good guy too! OK, and let's not forget that smokin' hot wife of his!

GREAT year for a couple of super athletes...CONGRATULATIONS!!!! AND, I might add...well done!
