  1. OK, if it is fact check time, let's get it right...in this case...Georgia actually "invaded" Georgia first! Georgia "attacked" itself when it tried to "take back" a "breakaway" state within its own borders. Georgia did not attack Russion territory. The Russians crossed the border of Georgia, Georgia did not attack Russia. Let's at least get that point. Georgia crossed a "pre-established border" within its own soverign territory. This after intel showed a large massing of Russian military forces and equipment near the Georgian border. Anyway, the BEAR seems to be stiring and I think this does not bode well for the world in general. Putin is telling folks, if you align with the West, this is what will happen to you.
  2. I disagree...I dated a lady with two adopted kids...ended up gertting married...having a third kiddo the usual way...and we have been married for now 30 years! Well, maybe you ARE RIGHT...I'll; never do it again BECAUSE I don't have too. Great lady and for those of you who know me, you know excatly waht I am talking about! How this "bride of mine" could have stayed around for 30+ years is beyond my scope of belief! I am a lucky fella....so, for those "single" folks out there, don't "back off" just because there is a kid or two in the mix when you start dating. Great things can happen. But, don't go and tell my bride that I said nice things about her in public! I would not want to spoil my reputation.
  3. No you cannot "force" freedom and democracy on people and that IS NOT what is going on in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Taliban are areal tolerant group, right Green P1? And that lovely Mr. Hussain, fun loving guy that he was....right up there in jolly land with another "tolerant" leader who welcomed "different opinions", one mr. Hitler. Oh, well, you say potato.... On another note...Green Mean.....simply priceless! GREAT photo...well done!
  4. I think Russia wants to "re-claim" the old Soviet Union days. Too bad they will get away with this little incursion into the soverign territory of another nation. Oh, gee, where are all the protesters? Bad Bear, bad bear! This is not good for several reasons, not the least of which is that it is clearly an attempt by Putin (yes, it is his doing) to "take advantage" of the one power who could stop this crap, but happens to be pre-occupied trying to help out a couple of other struggling new democricies in Afghanistan and Iraq at the time. No troops to spare at the moment! So, where is "everyone else"??? Don't see those French stepping up do you? Germans? Nowhere to be found? Brits? Too busy helping in Iraq and Afghanistan as are the Aussies and New Zealanders. The UN is NO HELP at all and really simply a JOKE these days. It's pretty much clear sailing for the Russians on this deal! I recall Mr. Bush saying something about looking into Putin;'s eyes and seeing a friend...or something like that. Might I remind you, a snake is a snake is always a snake. Pretty much like the pit bull dog...really nice little doggie...UNTIL IT ISN'T and it mauls the neuighbor kid whose ball accidently went into the yard with the pit bull! Too bad...innocent people are getting killed once again. Isn't that always the case in these situations?
  5. Yes, it is...nice building. One of the good things that's happening at UNT. My guess is that the new Business Building being planned will also be grand!
  6. Personally, while I can't, for the life of me, figure out why someone would want to "volunteer" to pay more taxes, I have no problem with out of state schools on Texas plates. Again, for a ton less $$$ you could buy a license plate frame, decal, sticker, etc. with the college/university of your choice rather than pay additional taxes. That, for me, goes for any of the "vanity plates" you see...for whatever cause. But, then, I just don't like paying taxes more taxes than absolutely necessary. If someone else wants to pay additional taxes...go for it.
  7. Nice, VERY nice. I, for one, sure like what I am seeing and hearing about our women's BB program uder its new leadership! Should be tons more fun this season to watch the ladies play. I sure hope the fan base improves!
  8. It was "THE BEST" watching the US Men's 4X100 relay take down the "smack talking" French team. HA! And, it that wasn't the best "finish" to a swim event I have ever seen, I can't imagine another one. Sooooooo glad I was able to "stay awake" to see it last night. Just absolutely made my day, heck, maybe my week. I didn't think too much "smack" was heard in the Olympic games, all that sportsmanship thing and all, but leave it to the Frogs to open their yaps and get their words shoved down their throats. Perhaps they should wait until AFTER the event next time. Great to see the guy doing the talking get "run down" in the final 50! Just PRICELESS! OK, and as for you, Meangreendork, and your soccer comment, it deserves no comment. Unlike the French, but not so much you, no smack talking here!
  9. "Can't" has never been the issue with UNT and it's fans...the issue has been and continues to be "will they"? I have often wondered why more students, faculty, alumni and fans don't show up for UNT athletic events and "Other" types of activities. It has puzzled me since I was an undergrad in the mid-late 60's. Lots of folks "could" have shown up, but rarely did they in large numbers". But, as the old folks song indicstes, "the times they are a changing", and they are "a changing" fopr the good at UNT. Be part of the positive change-SHOW UP! GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. back on topic here folks...Way to Go Exes aka Alumni Association...this is a nice opportunity to "gather" before games and do some "visiting" prior to the game with other members of the Mean Green Nation. Lots of folks have "whinned", "complained" and been downright "ugly" in their posting regarding the Association doing nothing...well, as you can see (if you just open your eyes) that they staff and membership are really working to improve things and get "stuff" going. Nice job here...I hope lots of folks show up. One of the problems has been that when events are palnned, and advertised, and put in motion...very few people show up. Then the event is "dumped" fopr lack of interest, the the Association hears that it isn't doing anything. UGH! If you like this, and you want events to continue and things to get better...SHOW UP and support YOUR ALUMNI Association. No, you do not have to stay for hours and you can...and I recoomend that you do...visit the Mean Green Tailgate Village too before the games...great fun. The make sure you are in your seat at Fouts BEFORE kick-oo! See you at Fouts. Well done Exes!!!! GO MEAN GREEN.
  11. Favre may help the Jets win a couple of more games IF he can stay healthy behind that wooful Jet offensive line. Yes, they made a couple of off-season moves to shore it up, but O-lines need time working together to gel, and this one, reconstructed as it is, has had no time to gel as a unit. Favre still has "game" and can play, no doubt about it, but he needs protection to be effective. may not get much from the Jets O-line. We'll see. I still say...WHO THE HECK CARES????? Unless you are a Jets fan or a Packers fan, it is time to place this in the "trash heap" and get on with MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL.
  12. WHO CARES!!!!! I liked Brett as a Packer...guy has guts and had game, but he is "past history". Should have stayed retired. He will get KILLED behind that Jet line...just ask Pennington. AGAIN...who the heck cares???? I am MUCH more interested in the QB at UNT! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  13. Good News! Nice to see this sort of thing beginning to happen at UNT. I have not received a call as yet, but probably will. I assume they are working their way down the list. Way to go UNT. Moving into the 21st Century. Great news. GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. In the words of those famous philosophers, Sonny and Cher..."And the beat goes on".... The stadium will get built and you will live to see it. Lots of good folks arte workingh hard to make sure that happens. Some of those good folks (and you know who you are) are posting on this board and have been keeping everyone up to date and informed. Just read what they are saying and "BELIEVE". I say "thanks" for the help and support, and to everyone else...keep the faith and try a little positive attitude once and awhile. It doesn't hurt. Try it, you might even like it! GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Interesting thoughts here. It does "gall" me a bit to have to cover with my taxes the costs associated with the by-products to our society of an overweight population. Here's an observation for you to ponder. I wonder if anyone else has noticed. When my wife and I go out to eat these days it is hard for us to sit in a booth as opposed to a table. Why? Well, it seems to me that there is much more room between the seats in a booth and the table in most restaurants with booths these days? Why? To accomodate the increased SIZE of the average American restaurant patron these days. My wife and I can hardly reach the table these days without having to lean forward or sit on ther edge of the seats. Has anyone else notived this subtle change in seating around the country? By the way...it was not the case during our recent visit to Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia...and we noticed! Hmmmmmmmmmm I will say, that the "average" person we encountered in Estonia, while "thinner" than the average American, was not as thinh as those in Denmark, Sweden and Finland. I can only assume that was due to the Soviet nutrition influence on Estonia during its domination by the Soviet Union. These are only non-scientific personal observations, but it was darn hard to not notice all the "smokin hot" young ladies I saw in Denmark, Sweden, etc. My wife noticed that I noticed too...just in case you were wondering.
  16. I wonder where everyone's hands were????? OK, I returned recently from a trip to Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia, and I am now a firm believer that the U.S. is the fattest nation on earth! WOW...the difference in the "average person on the street" and their body size between these countries (at least where I was) and the US was simply staggering! If the US, as a nation, does not do something about its "fatness" we will surely "sink"! And, I mean for people to take personal responsibility about their own health. We do not need the government mandating anything else and setting up a bunch of "food nazi's" to tell folks what they can and cannot eat. Peole need to take personal responsibility and eat less and better food. A little "junk food" is not bad at all, but moderation folks, moderation, and exercise. Get up off your "duff" and DO SOMETHING! Just MOVE!
  17. GoMeanGreen 1999...and your comment means what? I take it as a positive. What say you?
  18. OK, out with it. If it is that bad, just what the heck is it????? The suspense is killing me, and is not good for an "old guy" like me! BEAT ZERO U!!!!!!
  19. You think? I have said many times that baseball will be next, and soccer is not really on the radar screen. I just tend to believe soccer would be less expensive and would reach "national prominance" much much faster than baseball ever would at UNT. I do think there is some logic to not adding any new sport until the ones UNT has now are of "higher quality", whatever that really means. I think we should put more funds and effort into elevating our men's and women's golf teams to national prominance as they once were (at least the men's team was there once, not sure about the women), do what needs to be done to move softball and volleyball up the "ladder of success", get the new football stadium built, make certain that men's and women's basketball continue to improve etc., etc. LONG before baseball or any other sport is added. Anyway, baseball cometh if you believe RV on this issue, and I do tend to believe what he has said. So, relax, all you baseball folks, I just love to get your blood boiling with my soccer support and comments. It IS the "beautiful game", you know. Speaking of "beautiful" our lovely women's olympic team opened up their quest for gold yesterday with a 0-2 loss to Norway! That's a 14-0 loss to all you "high scoring" football fans out there! Norway scored both goals in the first 4 min. of the game. UGH! However, I do expect the US will "right the ship" and make it through to the quarter-finals and beyond. Hopefully to a rematch with Norway. By the way, for you non-soccer folks out there, Norway is a GREAT team. This is no "fluke" loss. While I had hoped for a US victory, I am not at all surprised by the loss. Just surprised at how the loss occurred. GO USA!
  20. Talk about looking for the negative anfd finding it!!! Ouch! Come on, this is excellent news about a new stadium from the Prez herself, and all you can find is the phrase "no matter how long it takes"??? I see that as a committment to getting it done and a willingness to "hang in there" through success and challenge until it IS a reality. That, folks, is a positive, not a negative in my book.
  21. I definitely agree that the "can do attitude and spirit" has been lacking with UNT and Denton as a partnership. This goes WAY back, and really is the result of the "town and gown gap" that has existed (and in some way still exists) between Denton and UNT. I moved to Denton in 1965, and started as a freshman at UNT in the fall of 1966. From that time until I went to grad school at Oklahoma State University I thought all towns and their resident universities acted the way Denton and UNT did toward each other (it was and continues to be a two-way street between Denton and UNT). Man, was I ever wrong with a capital "W"! Stillwater and OSU absolutely LOVE each other and realize that working TOGETHER is the the benefit of BOTH parties. And, work together they do. I assume the situation with Tech and Lubbock is quite similar, so I agree with the thought behind the posts by Huff and Green Nightmare. However, times ad things are changing at UNT and in Denton. The "old guard" in Denton is being replaced by new and more forward thinking folks and the folks at UNT seem to be much more inclined to work with the city in trying to get things done. It's slow progress, but it is progress none the less, and if you have been around Denton and UNT for very long you definitely know and see what I am talking about here. Yes, I understand the "show me the money" attitude. I have been there myself. I just now choose to believe that progress is being made and I choose to be on the optimistic side and not the negative or skeptical side of this issue. I guess I am "chilling out" some in my "old age", but it sure is a ton more fun to be positive and look for the bright spots. What I have found is that if you look for the negative, you will certainly find it, but if you look for the bright spots you will find those too. See youat Fouts this year, but see you in the new stadioum in 2010! GO MEAN GREEN beat TULSA!!!!
  22. Gee, does this "qualify" as the "announcement" folks have been wanting to hear? So, if it is now "out", why not have a big "to-do" at the Athletic Village (like the Kick-off Cookout) and have an announcement party? Could set up tables for folks to make donations and/or pledges to the stadium building fund along with food, beverages, season ticket sales, games, etc., etc.? Just wondering...
  23. drex...what's not to like?
  24. Nice to have you on "the team" regarding soccer "Soccer1"! It was, at times, a bit lonely out here in the wilderness. I agree, top 20 in men's soccer within a VERY short time. Much much faster than we would ever see UNT baseball's team in the top 20. And so it goes.
  25. I really don't want to get the stadium thing going again, BUT...did you see where Texas Tech said they will "announce its expansion plans to Jones AT&T Stadium at a news conference this afternoon"? Two things about that "announcement: 1) Name: Jones AT&T Stadium - they have a big time corp. sponsor in place adding mega dollars to the kitty; and drum roll please.... 2) "Fund raising for the expansion is two-thirds complete". Gee, you mean they kept the plans under "official" wraps with no big media announcement UNTIL they had two-thirds of the money "in hand" already???? Wow, what a concept! Not to "knock" all those who believe UNT will not have a stadium by 2010 and that UNT is doing nothing to get the stadium going, etc., etc. (those in the high whine catagory), but it seems our friends at Tech (yes, most every Tech fan in the country already knew about the expansion plans (sort of like at UNT) and the folks at UNT are follwing the same path in regards to a BIG OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Maybe that strategy is not so "unusual" at all. Even the "bigger boys" do it. maybe there is a solid reason. WOW! Yes, Virginia, UNT WILL have a new stadium by 2010 and just because there has been no big time media announcement does not mean that things are not progressing in a positive manner toward meeting that goal. Ask the fans at Tech! GO MEAN GREEN!
