  1. It will take 31/2 hours or so to get to Stillwater...not too bad a drive. Would be good to take the afternoon off and drive up early if you want to go to Joe's. It will definitely be CROWDED the night of a game...before and after. Fun place and believe it or not, often (during the day and early evenings, pretty family friendly). I have been there with plenty of Moms, Dads, Kids and Grandparents. OSU has a beautiful campus, the Alumni center is awsome, the football stadium is really nice now with the recent additions/changes. I have not been in Iba Arena since the changes, so, hopefully, it is even nicer now...was a "rocking place" during BB and werestling matches, but not the "newest" when I was last there for a game.
  2. I know its on and everything, but why is it an IMPORTANT GAME? I guess it's important if you are a Bayklor or Wake Forest fan, but is there something else I am missing here? I know it's Briles first baylor game, so? I know Wake is rated at #23 ijn the nation to start the year, so? What else for a Mean Green fan would make this an IMPORTANT GAME? Again, I get it if you are a Demon Deacon or a Bear, but this is a UNT board. Just wondering? But, to pick in this one, I would have to say GO BEARS! Texas team, Big XII, new coach and a dreadful program...could use the win!
  3. I would 100% agree that the killing of handcuffed and blindfolded prisioners is not to be tolerated under any conditions. However, war is not a pretty or nice thing. People are trying to kill each other and "stuff" happens. Go look into some of the "events" in WWII, Korea, Viet nam...hey even the Civil War and the Revolutionary War or the War for Texas Independance (aka Goliad) and you will find such things. Totally unacceptable, but isn't war in itself something that most folks would find an unacceptable solution to international problems? In theory at least that is true, in reality, not so much. As a veteran myself, the son of a WWII veteran, the grandson of a WWI veteran, the father of a veteran daughter and a current Navy doctor (and Navy doctor daughter-in-law), the uncle of a two tour Army Iraqi War vet (heading now to Afghanistan for #3), I have a perspective on this thing that is a bit "up close and personal". As many of you have I am most certain. War is nasty business and "stuff" happens, which, of course, does not make it RIGHT. This type of activity is not RIGHT! But, with instant news and a media that seems to like to show our soliders in every unfavorable light it can, I await the real facts before deciding for myself how this actually "went down". I can tell you, that in the heat of battle, when your guys are being shot and killed, emotions run pretty darn high. What looks like murder in times of peace may not be actually so in times of war. I have also learned from my Viet Nam era service days, that the media rarely gets the story 100% correct and often does have an "agenda". This "agenda" can influence how the military and the civilian authorities moved forward in their investigations, charges, etc. Just recently some Marines who were first charged with murder in Iraq had their charges downgraded after an extensive review and investigation of the matter. So, I will wait to see how this develops. Not saying it did not happen, not saying what has been reported isn't 100% true, but I await the "fianl story" as they say. If you trust the media on this sort of stuff you are sadly misguided in you views. Give it time, we'll see how it develops. Been there...Done that...when it comes to the treatment of our military by the media. Not all, of course. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT THE COALITION FORCES AND THE CIVILIAN WORKERS WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN A TOUGH TOUGH SITUATION.
  4. Flyer, I guess that means you won't be voting for Obama. That "radical" thing and all that?
  5. What are you trying to do? Confuse folks with real facts?????
  6. This is why UNT needs to do a much better job of tracking and keeping in touch with ALL its alumni. And, they need to ASK for support. The guy obviously loved SFA for some reason, that's great, it's a good school (my mother-in-law was on the Early Childhhod faculty there until she retired..spent many a day in Nac and watched many UNT-SFA gages at Lumberjack Stadium, or whatever they call it), but that does not mean he would not have "remembered" UNT also had he been respected as an alum and had regular and positive contact with the school and its programs. This is a long standing problem for UNT that many folks just shrug off as "that's the way it is" at UNT. BUT, it does not and should not have to be that way. I do think things are changing for the better in this regard at this time, but it will take some time and some "attitude" re-adjustment from UNT, but it is happening. It did not get the way it is over night and it will not be fixed over night, but positive steps are being taken. Give it your support...try to remain positive and be part of the sloution and not part of the problem...and it will get better even faster. GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB (jon is a nice guy and wants to develop great relationships and a great program)...JOIN THE EXES/ALUMNI...GO TO THE GAMES...DONATE TO THE PROGRAM OF YOUR CHOICE AT UNT!!!!
  7. VOTED! UNT is at 20%...tied for first. Go vote!
  8. Win and watch the coverage increase. However, I agree with the comment about coverage and have noticed that very thing this season. I have heard that the DMN has made some significant cutbacks and that the sports section will see some of those cutbacks. On a side note, I travel a fair amount and did travel (Montana to Mississippi territory) a fair bit for a living once, and I can tell you for a fact, as bad as we think it is, the DMN and the FWS-T, both do a much better job on sports and have a much bigger section than many other large market area papers. That, however, does not excuse the poor UNT coverage. But, it may have something to do with the poor level of support UNT's own fans and alumni give the University. Perception is reality in many cases. This might be one of them. I wonder how many folks have called the DMN to complain? Cancelling a subscription does not do much to increase coverage since, once you cancel...why should they care what you think? But, if you "stay and fight" so to speak, and if there are enough who want to "stay and fight" we might just get better coverage. And, by the way, I subscribe and I have called to complain, and I do not pay $228.00/year for my subscription. If you call and "negotiate" an annual rate (pay for the full year at one time) you can get it delivered Mon-Sun. for about half that! I did and do. So, call the DMN, let them know we are out there and we care about UNT coverage. GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. The thing that has disappointed me the most about what liitle I have watched of this convention is that no speaker I have heard (and I said I have not watched too much of it, so OK I am out front with it) has said anything about how Obama will do things, what his real plans are (a bit of detail I mean not jut grand comments), they jsut want to bash Bush and McCain. It gets old. Biden is an attack dog at best and that's why he is on the ticket. You can almost count on the fact that his big mouth will get him in trouble and the campaign will have to do "damage control" more than once. But, everyone knows that. Let the fun begin. We will probably see some of the same next week from the Republicans. Why can't they tell us what THEY stand for, what they want to do and why, how they will "right the ship" (If they think the ship is listing) instead of just telling us why the "other guy" is bad? This is why I don't watch this crap much any more. No substance at all, just political garbage. The LIE meter needs to be out and on screen. Probably was, but probably broke from over use after the first day of the convention. Too bad, it needed to be up at the Republican convention too. Buckle up...here we go!
  10. Just might have to make that one. Even if it is on a Monday night and some of us have to go to work the next morning, and some of us are "old" and need our beauty rest!
  11. Anyone can make a prediction, even me. They are worthless. The games are played on the field. Time to strap 'em on and line 'em up. Let the good times roll. GO UNT...GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS, etc., etc., etc. See you at Fouts.
  12. JesseeMartin...????? What memo? I cannot find what you are referring to here...HELP please and thank you.
  13. Folks, what's up with this...UNT ex-linebacker Justin Padron has enrolled at SMU and is a walk-on with the football team according to SMU ass't coach Tim Hundley. Thought he told Dodge he was giving up football due to complicationd from diabetes?????? So, what's the story here? This is strange and does not make sense to me. Do I assume he has to sit out a year or was the diabetes story a way around the "wait"? I am really confused here. Why in the heck leave UNT for SMU UNLESS there is something much more to the story? Any insights out there in GMG.com land?
  14. Everyone...yes, big time donors and potential new donors can sit anywhere they like. They can have my seat if they want no problem. But, those who were there understand the "big time donors" most saw were not new and several seats were taken by staffers while "known" big contributors did not get "reserved seats". That's all I am saying. OK, let's all realize this is not a big deal and I am not "mad" about it. Just a bit ticked when I see staffers and the "usual suspects" getting such treatment when I personally know of donors at sizeable levels who are never really recognized. Time to end this because The PouHouse had absolutely nothing to do with who sat where, and it simply isn't that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. It was an enjoyable evening with members of the Mean Green nation. That's all that really matters. Good things are happening, last evening was one of them. GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS!
  15. Quoner...you are too much.....class structure, fine with you...I get it...the least they could have done is to show up BEFORE the show started!!!!! In the face of full disclosure, I will say most of the "reservees" did show up before the show started...most...not all. And, why were Prez B's staff given reserved seats?????? As far as big donors...I guess you were there to see who was sitting in the reserved section, right???? I don't think all were what you might call "big donors".....Employees...and that is just what Prez B's staff is....should not be given priority seating in THIS type of situation...I clearly understand that there are many times when it would be appropriate...and, I understand folks may have a different view of this...that's fine...no problem at all...but, just me....there were some rather large donors in attendance who DID NOT get priority seating (while I donate, I am not what I would consider a BIG Donor...just don't have the cash)....what say you about that Mr. Quoner? Just wondering if you think it's OK to give priority to staff members when other big donors were not provided the same opportunity for "reserved seating". Hey, just wondering...but, since you were there you already know what I mean (OK a little dig there, but just a small one in case you were there as I do not know for 100% certaintity just who you really are...is that a good thing?) You want to reserve for Prez. B and our Chairman...I am fine with that...but to give some donors that opportunity...and especially those who came late while other folks were made to stand due to lack of seats....and not other BIG donors and supporters? Just wondering. Nothing I will get too worked up about as I thought the whole evening was a very positive thing, and I encourage those who can to go...you will have a good time with members of the Mean Green Nation. This is not a BIG thing...nothing to lose any sleep over or even rem,ember...it was probably a one-time thing for the first show....and it was a nice thing for Prez. B to attend. Give her prps and our Chairman for that...pretty impressive support fopr the program if you think about it.
  16. OK, so here arte my thoughts...I appreciate everyone's input. I agree with the thoughts posted. The place is great as a sport's bar. Not so sure about it as a "host" for a radio show. Could not hear half the show because of all the talking going on and I was pretty "rticked off" after getting the over 1 hour early that all the seats where you could actually see were "Reserved". What's up with that CRAP???? Hard to see from behind the first row and I thought the room was actually a bit small. Wait staff tried to do a good job, but a tad slow. I give them props for the job they did as it was the first show. Fodd was very good. Beer was nice and cold. Do think it's a great place to watch a game, but need to work on the set up to be successful as the host for a radio show. I did not like the fact that you could not interact with any of the other members of the Mean Green Nation like you could at previous venues, but that will develop over time. All in all...a good start and I know the folks at the PourHouse will do all they can to make this thing work for the show. They do a good job and work hard to make sure folks are happy. I bet folks will be happy after all the initial "bugs" are worked out. Just wish I could have heard what Coach Dodge said. I may have to just listen on the radio going forward as I really do what to hear what he says. As far as the Athletic Dept. folks...yes, they do continue to "talk over" the show and it is a bit distracting...BUT, I love the fact that they are there, and I think they should be there...who knows someone may want to buy a raffle ticket, ask about the Mean Green Club, ask how they can help with the stadium, thank the folks for what they are doing, etc., etc. Crowds are not a problem...reserving seats for folks at a public radio show is a DEFINITE NO NO...don't care if it is Prez. B or Prez Bush! They had every front seat with any view reserved....I just love being thought of as a second class citizen! Just kiiding about that one. Thanks to all for working to have a great show...lots of work goes into this type of thing...unless you havedone it, you may not realize just how much...it will keep getting better...nice start...got some work to do. GO MEAN GREEN...JOING THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...JOIN THE EXES...BUY SEASON TICKETS....
  17. OK, so what did everyone think of the new location, The Pour Hose, for the Coach Dodge Show? I was there and have my opinions of the location vs. Hooter's vs. Sweetwater, but I would liike to hear from others who were actually there along with me. What did you think?
  18. Sad, very sad. Things like this disgust me. These guys should be "put down" like a pit bull!
  19. NO WAY...Texan born and bred...my fingers just get going faster than they should on these keyboards...I am a Columbus method inputer...you know, search and find...but I get going pretty fast sometimes...just not very proficient!
  20. Sorry, but no beer is disgusting....some is just way better than others! Just like women!
  21. I SECOND THAT BIG TIME about calling SMUG! This is a situation that should NEVER have happened in the foirst place and does need to be corrected. SUMG is a great fan and a super supporter of UNT. He is too nice to "make the call" himself. Someone should put a "bug" in Jon's ear to make that call. I have no clue what Jon looks like or I would do it myself. GREAT thought and great idea..."DeepGreen".
  22. Yes, he took over for M who has a new position in fund raising as I understand it.. NO DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PARKING PASSES IN THE MAIL. ??????????
  23. Just from a few of these early posts it looks like the campaign for our next President will be V-E-R-Y interseting. I sure both sides will not let the facts get in the way of a good rant from time to time. Facts such as how "mean spirited" the Republican Party is....when in 1964 the Civil Rights Act passed with 290 votes...138 Republican and 152 Democrat. Of the 130 votes against the Act 96bwere Democrat and 34 Republican. The1965 Voting Rights Act saw the support of 60% of tjhe Republicans in the Hose but only 40% of the Democrats in the House. And who is quoted as saying this about taxes: "our true choice is not between tax reduction, on the one hand, and the avoidance of large Federal deficits on the other. It is increasingly clear that, no matter what party is in power, so long as our national security needs keep rising, an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough revenue to balance the budget-just as it will never produce enough jobs or enough profits. In short, it is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low - and the soundest way to raise revenues in the long run is to cut tax rates now". Ronald Reagan you say????? Guess again...how about the Prince of Camalot himself, President John F. Kennedy. (Kennedy enacted a 22% percent across the board cut in tax rates in February of 1964 and tax revenues soared!) Now, let the camnpaign begin. FUN of all FUN!
  24. Interesting and good to hear. However, I must say that I am a MGC member at a donation level high enough for some "perks", but I have not heard a word from the new director. Am I correct to assume his name is Jon from the posts here? My donation level includes parking passes, but have not heard a word about parking passes and they were not included in my ticket pakage or MGC "gift" received at the Kickoff Cookout. Anyone able to help me out here? I, too, will give "Jon" plenty of time and all the support needed to "right the ship", and I am real glad Flyer is getting some attention, so I have to assume things are moving forward in a positive manner. I don't need a "personal" phone call, but some recognition that I exist as a donating member of the MGC would be nice. I would not recognize "Jon" if he were standing right next to me. I wonder, was he introduced at the Kickoff Cookout? If so, I missed it and that could definitely be the case as I was "all over the place" in and out having a great time with members of the Mean Green Nation. An interesting side note...I joined Navy's "Blue and Gold" club at the $100 level as I was told being a member is the best way to secure Navy-Army football tickets. I have had 100% more communication and thanks from Navy than I have from UNT for my Mean Green Club membership at a much higher level. Go figure. It's early, and I am "on board" with the MGC, so I am not bashing "Jon" or the MGC here...I think this are and will get better, and I have the patience to give them the time they need to gear up..in fact, I would encourage EVERY MEAN GREEN NATION fan to join the MGC at whatever level you would like. Memberships and numbers are important when it comes to fund raising and building a winning program. Movin' On Up! GO MEAN GREEN!
