It has simply become the "thing to do" for some folks. As long as it is peaceful (and I am not certain some were planning on "peaceful" protest) I am 100% fine with it. These folks are fringe folks and I would even guess that some do not even vote. I, too, wonder...where do these folks get the $$$ to do this sort of thing? Don't they have jobs?????? Anyway, this is nothing different than the Denver police at the DNC. If you thought it would be different you might want to think again. The sport of politice...let the games begin!

Tough loss, but, in reality, UNT really did not match up with K-State. Yes, would like to have seen the score a bit closer...but it is better than last year's opener against OU. Just don't get crazy about this. If you do, you will really "lose it" when UNT plays LSU. That one may not be pretty at all...but, I still hold to 5 wins this sason and I'd be OK with 4. Lot's of work to do. I watched OSU play Wash. St. on TV yesterday afternoon and the announcers kept talking about how Gundy FINALLY has his team together after FINALLY being able to redshirt a class or two. It takes time, folks, to bring a program back from the "almost dead" state which is what UNT was the last couple of years under Dickey. Dodge is the one I am worried about getting down on himself. I doubt that he will, but everyone needs to hold the line, keep the faith and remember what *UNT is trying to do. And for those who don't know what that is...IT IS TO GET BETTER. NOT..get better over night! Can't be done. Way too far to go. Remember, UNT was once in the same conference with Tulsa and was on even par or even ahead of their program. I would have to say (shudder I dare to do it) that the Tulsa program is a good bit ahead of ours at the moment. So, hang in there and chill...defense did look and play better and that is a real good thing. Lots to work on and I ma sure Dodge and his staff are already doing just that. I got so worked up over the lousy coverage by the DMN that I couldn't even spell "GAME" in the title above...since I am not a master of working this site...can one of the admins FIX the spelling in the title of this topic? Please? Thank you.....

OK, I know we discussed this a bit recently, but I may now be leaning towrd the camp that thinks the DMN is intentionally snubbing UNT. The coverage of our game with K-St. this morning was on page 7CC of the sports section Below the fold and UNDER three articles on high school football! It was just a line by Vito out of his blog I think. Even Texas State made the college football pages on page 5CC. This is just not right. But, UNT did lose by a wide margin...maybe we are lucky the story was buried. No, this is simply a real slight...win-lose-draw UNT is a LARGE Metroplex University with many many alums in the DMN readership area. It is areal shame. But, does anyone think anyone of any authority from the University and Athletic Dept. will call the DMN and ask "What's Up" with the lame coverage? Why does UNT get only stuff by Vito from the Record-Chronicle? I know Belo owns both papers and I know the readership of both is in decline, and I know the papers are cutting staff, but this is a bit much. Anyone else notice the slight this morning????? Just wondering.

Voted...come on folks, we are behind SMU in votes for gosh sakes...VOTE!!! VOTE! We must prevail over the "evil ones"...for those of you who don't get it, that was a bit of sarcasm regarding the "evil one". Just in case your humor meter is a bit sensitive.

Issues? What issues? When do we start talking issues and differences on positions between what the candidates want to do IF they should become President and Vice President? And, when I ask "we" I mean the entire country. This board is just a mirror image of what's going on "out there". NO ONE can be fully prepared for what might come under their "watch" as President of the United States. You pick your candidate and hope they stay true to the values and ideas that made you want to vote for them in the first place. From what I can tell, the "sides" on this board are pretty well drawn...no one, I believe, will change no matter what real facts emerge or what positions either candidate takes. You are either for what Obama stands for or you are for what McCain stands for and where you hope to see the country head in the next four years. It should be fun sparring here from time to time as the campaigns progress. Let the games begin!

O.K., if we are on this line of subject, what's up with folks not being able to say the Pledge of Alligence properly? THERE IS NO COMMA BETWEEN "one Nation Under God". STOP PAUSING and continue for goodness sakes. Drives me nuts that folks what to say..."one Nation...pause...Under God"...IT IS "one Nation Under God"...no comma, no pause. OK, I feel better now. Unfortunately, it is not only the "smart people" who vote! I think this was a very nice gesture. It goes with Palin not going on "attack dog" mode with her first speech. I am sure things will "heat up" as time goes on, but for now looks like a very nice gesture to me. But, of course, some will find fault somewhere. Alas, it is politics in America today! She is the GOVERNOR OF ALASKA! I think that qualifies for some experience in running "something". Interesting choice. Did you notice the difference in her first speech as VP choice over Biden's first shot out out the box (no pun intended)? Biden went with the "attack dog" mode instantly...not so much with Palin. Greenminer...I agree, and if you will go back and read my post about this situation, I only said it was "not good" and quoted Charlie Browm with a "Good Grief". I do not think I jumped to any conclusions...no where do I say anything about his guilt or no guilt...only that I thought the new was bad! I think the news is BAD. That is not saying a thing about guilt or no guilt. Explain to me why the guy is even mentioned in this article...and it is not good PR for UNT any way you cut it. Can't see where that even smacks of jumping to conclusions...but, wait...maybe Greenminer is douing the jumping...Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

This is what I mean by "waiting until all the facts are known"....while this is not the same soldier/s involved in this incident, it is an example of what i mean. We should not "jump to conclusions" just because a soldier has been arrested, etc. DMN article today: "A former Marine accused of killing unarmed Iraqi detainees was acquitted of voluntary manslaughter Thursday in Riverside, Calif. Jose Luis Nazario, Jr., 28, was found not guilty of charges that he killed or caused others to kill four unarmed detainees on Nov. 9, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq". Just one example. Sorry...still can't see any significance to this game, and it was another blowout for the Bears at home. Too bad...I like that Griffin kid. He is young and he lacks experience (does that sound familiar), but the kid can play! Yes, I would much prefer Baylor to Houston if I were coach. Big XII is a much better place to coach...much higher priority. Even prefer to live in Waco over Houston, especially if I were raising a family. That's just my opinion, of course. The game had absolutely ZERO significance for UNT. because a coach runs a similar offense to Dodge does not , in my opinion, make it significant for UNT. Heck, with that logic I guess every game Baylor (and several other schools for that matter) plays will be a significant game for UNT. I'd better go buy some more TV's...mine does not have enough "pictures in a picture" to watch all the sugnificant games I will need to watch every week. OK, Fake Lonnie...don't get all fired up about this...just having a little "fun with ya!" GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS...GO TO THE GAMES...FILL FOUTS!

Can't get too worked up about this one. The guy has a big interest in the station and, so he liokes SMU...who the heck watches the show anyway? It is not a government deal where everyone has to have equal time so their "feelings" won't be hurt. It's his deal, the station is a for=profit entity. Let the market decide if what the station is doing is what it should be doing. SMU is, well, SMU. I am glad we have them down the road so we can have some sort of rivalry with some school within "shouting distance". Can't get worked up about TCH, but SMU is fun to have around. I hope June Jones gets the program going. Can't hurt UNT to have a good program down the road that will play us from time to time. GO MEAN GREEN!

Coffee and Tea...don't think I ever said you were British. If you are a college grad making $11/hour look in the mirror and find out why. Health care costs are soaring due in large part to the Trial Lawyer Lobby making such friends out of their democratic congressmen and senators. Tort reform in medicine would GREATLY reduce the cost of health care in the United States. The Pacific Research Institute estimates that our present abusive malpractice system adds $124Billion...that Billion with a B...to the cost of health care in America through defensive medicine and that higher cost causes 3.4million Americans to lose their health care insurance. One ob-gyn in Rhode Island (as simply one of many examples) saw her malpractice insurance cost jump from $28,000 (too high in itself) $90,000 in one year and she had NEVER BEEN SUED! Imagine, if you can, what that did to the cost of delivering a baby...each and every baby delivered! Medical liability costs have increased an average of 11.7 percent each year since 1975! Think that has anything to do with the cost of health care and the reason some folks can't afford coverage? And, it is your democrat friends in congress who block tort reform each and evey time it rears its head! But, I wouldn't want to confuse anyone with facts insrtead of just throwing some emotional blast out there! Yep, it's those "mean" Republicans working with those mean corporate folks who just keep raising the cost of health care so they can get richer and richer...Hmmmmmmm, but sir, the facts don'rt bear that out! Young man, do not confuse me with the facts for I am a Democrat and I know what good for you! (ASIDE: A little comic relief there)...I love politics...LET THE GAMES BEGIN! And, the beat goes on when it comes to government by the folks who think big government is good and even bigger government is Camalot! Members of the "TAKING COALITION" all!

Let the games begin! If you are anywhere near most public universities, I can imagine you would be threatened if you said you were not going to vote for Obama. Remember, university profs are all for "free speech" as long as your free speech agrees with their free speech. If not, look out! OK, don't everyone jump me for that snide remark. I know that is a gross generalization...just wanted to help get the "games" going so we can "ejoy" the sport of politics. Heck, no candidate ever seems to want to give you any real concrete ideas as to how they would "fix" things, they just want to tell you why the other candidate is BAD! UGH! Tells me neither one has any idea of how to fix things...well, at the risk of getting figuratively killed here by the members of the "Takings Coalition" among us, I offer these these five items as the FIVE GREAT REFORMS wanted by the "Leave Us Along Coalition" folks: 1. MAKE ALL PENSIONS INDIVIDUALLY OWNED AND PORTABLE; 2. MAKE HEALTH INSURANCE INDIVIDUALLY OWNED AND CONTROL COSTS THROUGH COMPETITION; 3. GIVE PARENTS REAL CHOICE IN EDUCATION; 4. COMPETITIVE SOURCING (let government at all levels compete with the private sector for every service than can be handled by private industry; and 5. TRANSPARANCY IN GOVERNMENT AT ALL LEVELS. My thanks to Grover Nortquist for the list. Check out his book "LEAVE US ALONE". Pretty interesting IF you can read it with an open mind and keep your emotions out of it. Hey, if Obama would sign a written pledge to do these five things, even I might vote for him. Short of that, NO WAY!
