The 2008 Texas Rangers
KRAM1 replied to Green Mean's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
No, not exciting at all...the pitcher lobbed the ball to first about 50 times and scratched himself between each throw. There were about 8 pitchers used with the pitching coach/manager coming to the mound at least twice before replacing each pitcher, and each replacement took his full allotment of warm-up pitches. There were fifteen walks and 8 times the bases were loaded on base on balls. The catcher went to the mound at least twenty times to "chat". Sound familiar? Yawn...wake me when they actually do something. GO RANGERS...let's get this season over with so the rebuilding years can continue. Hey, the US men's soccer team plays a World Cup qualifying game tonight which is being braodcast on ESPN2 (I think that's the station) at 7PM our time. Tun in and watch a game with non-stop action and one that won't take four hours to complete...even if some of the players do roll around on the ground and act hurt! See, I can be objective about soccer. By the way, I refereed three games Saturday and almost had to "toss the coach" from one of the teams in the very firt game of the year! Man, the guy was fired up and this was a young girl's game for gosh sakes! Whew, can't wait to see him again in a couple of weeks. Yep, his team won 6-5...wow that 42-35 ...big scoring game for you football fans out there. -
Yep, let's have a little spot where one can be "laid to rest" in the end-zones.... Way cool! Might help raise funds for the stadium...when I was in Key West, Florida once I went to a bar for a cold one or two and they actually had a long-time client whose ashes were actually in the "bar" itself....not the building, but the actual bar! How cool is that????

Todd Dodge Coaches Show This Monday Is Cancelled
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Ike should be "gone" from the San Antonio area by Monday...at least that's what our "crack weathermen" say...Hmmmmmmm...maybe they say it because they are on crack! You think? -
The 2008 Texas Rangers
KRAM1 replied to Green Mean's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Sure is nice to have this exciting baseball race going on here in Texas as the season (thank God for small favors) winds down. hey, the Rangers aren't out of it yet...the Angels still have a "magic" number of two! Yawn, what inning is it now since we have been sitting here for 4 hours already with the score at 1-0???? Excitement just pulses through my body. Sorry, just had to take that shot at the lowly Rangers as they play useless games here at the end of the season...and the football crowd yells about having to buy pre-season game tickets to get season Cowboys tickets, etc. heck over 100 games the Rangers usually play in a season are meaningless. They are usually "out of it" for all intents and purposes by the end of May each year. Pitching? What pitching? We don't need no stinking pitching!!!!! Too much fun.... -
What time is the test? Has the world been destroyed already and I just missed it????? More "stuff" from the crowd who thinks "global warming" is a scientific fact! The Sky is falling!!! The sky is falling!!!! But, I did sort of like the remark about a world without France for a milli-second or so! PRICELESS comment!

The very least the City and County should do, if they cannot find some way to financially support a project that will bring many many $$$$$ to the city and county, would be to help advertise the project in the hopes of building public support. You are kidding youself if you think all those folks with "university ties" that work in the City and County gov's (either paid or volunteer) would lift much of a finger to help. Seems to me most have a "not in my backyard" view when it comes to development of any kind in the City of Denton. Big help with the Fry Street project, wern't they? What about the Denton Sports Commission (or whatever you call it)...will they step up and do anything in the way of support???? Just wondering. I tried to "volunteer" to be on the sport commission board not too long ago when I actually worked in denton. You would have thought I had small pox or something from the absolutely "snobbish" reaction I received to my offer to help. Hey, there are some great folks on that ccommission, but sort of seemed like a "good ole' boy" recation to my offer to help. But, that's another story altogether. Just "laughed" that one off...no harm no foul...just trying to help. Don't want it...don't need it, great for you...glad you have all the help and volunteers you need. Now, however, how about stepping up and doing something to help the stadium project...I know you are out there, and "your" help would be appreciated...City, County, Sports Commission, etc., etc.

This thread is really disappointing to me and smacks of retreat and surrender when questions such as this are asked. I share everyone's frustration in the fact that UNT is not winning at the moment and more in the fact that UNT looks a bit "unsettled" on both the offensive and defensive side of the line, but now is not the time to be thinking like this...much less posting it and discussing such comparisons. Yes, UNT has a way to go to be where Coach Dodge, RV and certainly all the players want to be. But, don't ever kid yourself into believing that the players, coaches, adinistrative types do not read this board. This type of "comparioson" does nothing positive. I am not "kicking" anyone for starting this thread...it's fair and make for some interesting comment to say the least, but I just call your attention to the fact that no one associated with the program at UNT is any happier than the fans are with the state of the program on the field the last two games. However, there is much to be pleased about and many positives to believe in for the future. So, who cares how many points SMU might get beat by in their game with Tech???? I hope SMU does well...it could help "liven" up the entire metroplex when it comes to college football if SMU were a decent program. It would that much more satisfying for the Mean Green nation when UNT plays them again and BEATS them. GO MEAN GREEN!!! Find the positives...they are there if you just look!

No and Yes! No, they don't get a "pass" for losing, they get a "pass" for being one of our most successful (make that winning) programs. Everyone EXPECTS them to win at home (can we actually say that about any other program at UNT at the moment...can we really?), so it was a real shock. No one is "excusing" them for losing, just "giving them a pass" on having to win every home game. The GOAL definitely should be to win every game as Lifer said...that's why you play the things in the first place...just trying to say that no one is "getting down" on the team just because they let one get away at home. Expectations are tough sometimes...ladies will tighten it up and win the next one's at home and on the road. GO LADIES!!!! GREAT JOB. AND, you are drawing nice crowds. We need more seats for fans for soccer!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN SOCCER!!!!

$700,000 is a good "payday" for the Mean Green. Of course LSU gets more, I hope no one thought I was THAT dense...well, maybe you did! Just because UNT gets a nice payday does not mean the "home team" doesn't do better, etc. Sorry you missed the point of the post.

This is really great...and VERY nice. Almost makes me want to go to Baton Rouge and watch the Tigers kick the "you know what"out of UNT for the sake of about $700K! Thanks for the invite, and my VERY best of wishes to Mrs. Cripp of Tean KATT and to you on the pending addition to your family.

I don't get it. Coach Dodge needs a "red shirt" class to build this program on...several DI programs helped get things turned around through the redshirt system. One example is Gundy at OK State. While OSU plays in the pretty tough Big XII-South, it looks like they might have a decent season...hopefully better than the "usual and recent" 7-5. This is due in part to the fact that Gundy finally has a "redshirt" class to work with...and they are hios guys! But, Coach Dodge is the head coach and we'll go with his call on this.

While the "first" opportunity may have been "missed" due to some "coordination" mix-ups, the fact that the "official" announcement was made is a very good thing. The "mock-up" in the tailgate area was great, the signs on the stadium walkways, etc. were fine and while the scoreboard video presentation did not come off as hoped for (I did notice the "strained" look, and definitely knew why) it is a very nice video and will be great to see it played at future games, etc., etc. The announcement is probably the first of many "announcements" as progress moves forward. Sorry for the mix-up, but now "onward and upward" to getting that first spade of dirt turned. I, for one, appreciate the effort made to get the project to this point...let's go MEAN GREEN! GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS....JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB....BUY SEASON TICKETS...JOIN THE EXES/ALUMNI...AND...SHOW UP FOR THE GAMES!!!!

$700,000 UNT $0 LSU I will look forward to the day when UNT does not have to play as many or any of these $$$$ games. It will not be pretty, but I predict no "give up" in the Mean Green whatever the score! GO MEAN GREEN!

The Great Don Haskins Passes Away
KRAM1 replied to SUMG's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
A legend passes from the scene, but not from memory. What a guy and what a coach. I can only imagine the grief this guy took. I graduated from HS in '66 and recall his team and their NCAA win quite vividly. Had no clue at the time how hard it was to do what he did, and I do not mean the playing of the games. That was and is hard enough, but can you in any way grasp what Coach Haskins, his players and everyone surrounding the program went through? WOW! Quite a coach, quite a guy, but he had some quality players with him that showed a much true character as did Coach Haskins. WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVENT! REST IN PEACE...yopu have eraned it from where I sit! -
Agreed, I made the comment to several folks that OU looked to much better conditioned and much quicker to the ball...even though they were also playing quite a few underclassmen. I am fully confident that UNT will be "there" when conference comes around. I still see UNT doing some real damage in conference play. UTSA is not the "push over" some folks may have thought they would be. Could we and should we have won the game at home...Certainly...but UTSA is no "sure win".

I don't think RV gets enough credit for this. I know he has his nay-sayers, what AD doesn't, but he is the FIRST AD in my history with UNT that when he said he was going to get a project going and complete to upgrade facilites, he did it. Some say he was "lucky" in some cases...so be it...he said it and he did it. I apprecaite the fact that some folks are moving forward and looking at the positives around the athletic program. UNT has some excellent facilities for athletics and improvements in sevearla areas are in the works, not just the new stadium. It is just that the stadium is the centerpiece and will be such a great positive. I can only imagine the teams that will consider playing in Denton with the new stadium. Can hardly wait, and it will be great fun to watch it being built. Our own "Jerry World"...OK, "Rick World". Bring it on! GO MEAN GREEN....BUY SEASON TICKETS and COME TO THE GAMES!!!!

FLYER...Congratulations! I do hope the weather is great for you guys. Welcome to the "married life" stuff...trust me, it gets even better as the years go along. Remember these little words of advice my father gave me (unfortunately, he gave them too me before my second marriage...I am a slow learner! But it is good he waited!): You need to decide... You can either be RIGHT...or... You can be HAPPY! You get to make the call!
-
A real bummer! maybe they had BIG XII victory hang-over after their win over ZERO U Friday evening. Back line looked a little "out of sorts" Friday evening. I hope they can figure it out before the conference opener. I'll bet they do. Young players are looking better and better. GO SOCCER!!!!!!!
-
OK, some perspective here...for how long has everyone been wanting the "announcement"? Well, we got it. Agree 100% that it did not come off as desired, and from what I saw RV was none to happy about how it came off. But, the BIG PICTURE, for those of you who have a hard time seeing it, is that the long awaited announcement was made. No turning back now! All the rest of the "stuff" will come. I agree with drex that it's too bad there was no "how to get involved" on the video, but the flyers passed out provided a blurb that indicated you could sign up at meangreensports.com to automatically receive updates. Anyone want to guess that the folks who sign up might just get info on how to be a financial supporter??? I'll guess the next step (after the student vote perhaps) will be the announcement of a "let's build it" campaign for supporters of all sizes. I'm just guessing. The way it was done Saturday at the stadium was not the greatest, but I hand it to them for giving it a try. Yep, bad coordination with the drumline and the audio stuff....you live and learn. But, RV sure did look a bit peeved! I think some "conversations" are being had with some folks as we speak regarding this very thing. BTW...did you see the mock-up in the Tailgate area? VERY NICE!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!

Pourhouse Is Catering At The Pre-tulsa Game Festivities
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Had the same experience with being "turned away"...not a good thing, but sure didn't ruin my day. I just couldn't figure out why it was advertised as it was and then this happens. It may not have been a Pourhouse issue, but as they were the sponser why was it not coordinated better ahead of time and once it "changed" why was no one from the Pourhouse there to help "explain" or to at least get the crappy folks running the tent to be nice???? Not very good PR for the Pourhouse. If it's your event...take control. I like the Pourhose, but was certainly disappointed at how I (and my wife) were treated. One needs to realize that the tents in the "official" tailgate area are, for the vast majority, "private. That way they can serve beer. Beer used to be OK as a "freebie", but that was before "her royal higness" Ms B became Prez. I got over it real fast, as there was just too much fun to be had and other folks to see. I am sure this will get fixed. The Coors folks should be ashamed of the way they treated fans and the Pourhouse should have done a much better job of handling THEIR event. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll bet they will. They have way too much at stake to let something like this set them back. -
I though the attendance was great...I had predicted 25,000 and while I was a tad "off" that number I am very happy with the attendance Saturday. EVERYONE just needs to come back on the 4th of Oct. Problem is, Tulsa ( a somewhet "local" team) did bring a few fans...and from what I saw and with the ones I interacted with before and after the game...pretty nice folks who seemed VERY impressed with our game dat atmosphere! How's that for a positive step???? Not many years ago that would have been the last comment a visiting fan would make! If you don't think positive things are happening then you are just "grumpy" and see only what youy want to see. I was very impressed with the student turnout. I, for one, have been a bit vocal regarding the lack of any student turnout in recent years. Well, good job students!!! And, so many were actually wearing green!!!! It WAS GREAT to look across the field and see all the students. Way to go...well done. Again, if you don't think positive things are happenening you were not at the game in order to look across the field and see the student side. Funny, I saw RV at the women's soccer game Friday evening (hey, UNT beat OU 302 in OT Friday...I guess they had Big XII victory hangove against UT-San Antonio) and told him we would have 25,000 Saturday night at the game. Did you see where I said RV was attending the women's soccer game Friday evening? That's the evening BEFORE the first home game. Way to go RV...the guy is trying to get the program support for all its programs. Anyway, back to the game attendance...great start. Now, everyone come back!!!! Now is not the time to "jump ship" or whine about won-loss records. Now is the time to enjoy the entire "event" and be there as the program moves forward.

Everyone take a "chill pill". Newspapers, all over the country, are losing readership to blogs, on-line reports, etc., etc. Maybe the DRC is just trying to "hang on", make a little noise and get some "vibe" going. Like has been said before...all news is good news! OK, I don't care for the "jabs" either, but when you are trying to re-load and re-build some of this type of thing comes with the program. What do you think was said in College Station last week and perhaps in Arkansas this week? Let it go and enjoy the games. I had a great time at the game Saturday and at the Tailgate area before the game. All was great...except, of course, the final score. Better final scores will come.
-
Thanks for the kind words...much appreciate you coming to the game. Hopefully, the next time we play each other it will be a much closer game...with UNT doing the winning next time, of course. Come back anytime. It was great to have a "local" team...of sorts.
-
I definitely agree that this would be a good thing for UNT....however, i do not belive we would save "hotel" costs. I think Coach Dodge has the team stay in a hotel the night before even a home game. Go figure. I wonder what that costs? Don't most of the players reside in Victory Hall? Can the coaches not keep them "controlled" there before a home game as opposed to paying the cost for a hotel before a home game? No problem for me, I am just fairly "conservative" when it comes to trying to save dollars. You could "save" that cost for each home game and add it to the stadium fund perhaps. Anyone know if they do, in fact, stay at a hotel the night before a home game? If so, what is the cost? Maybe the hotel donates the rooms. If so, GREAT!
