I have been saying this for several years now. And, it actually flows down to those giving at or near the $5000 annual level. There is donor “fatigue” at UNT and it is real. The same folks get called time and time and time again every time there is a need. And, the well is beginning to run dry. For way too long the attitude around UNT has been “let those guys do it”, and it is beginning to show. I realize it is easier for our advancement folks to just go to the folks they know will help rather than to do the heavy lifting of finding new donors or asking the “smaller” donors to step up. For too long many potential donors and non-donors have ridden the backs of those who do donate. I get it. Why donate when you can keep your cash and let others carry the water for you? UNT grads play love to complain about “the only time they talk to me is when they need something”, so I’ll just not respond at all excuse. And, it is a very whiney fan base as well. Every excuse under the sun is used to justify why they don’t donate...you cannot create a new excuse that a UNT grad hasn’t used. And, this goes for the academic side as well as the athletic side. Our advancement folks are tired of hearing the same excuses over and over again, and it is one reason they just opt to go back time and time again to those who will give. We have the very best group of advancement people across the entire university we have ever had, and they are setting donation level records. But, they are UNT records which are really very small compared to universities our size. None the less, progress is being made. It just needs to continue. If alums and fans want the progress to continue, more folks at the $1000 plus level need to be created. Folks need to step up and increase levels and new donors must be found. Or, we stay where we are... I will say...and did so to a college dean just this last week when discussing donors...I don’t care how much ones gives...not my business...I just care IF they give. If people just started to give at any level and increased their donation annually as they could, what a big difference that would make. Read Brett’s article and look at how few donors we actually have to the MGSF at any level. That number is disgraceful for a University our size...and yet, it is a record number. Only a bit over 7,000 season ticket holders (and that includes corporate buyers) for a 30,000+ seat stadium (also a record number)...also a disgrace for a University our size. So, it is a tad hypocritical to hear all the “We should do this or that’s”, “we should be in a better conference”, “we should get P5 teams to come to Apogee”, “we should add baseball”, “we should recruit 4 and 5 star players”, and on and on and on. And the “Wren should do this or that”, “Seth should hire this guy or that guy”, “Seth should recruit nationally”, etc., etc. All these things take cash...and lots of it. No admonishment to the folks here as this board Is composed of folks who do give and of many who have increased their level of donation over the years. This board represents the most diehard of UNT fans who have stuck by the program through think and thin, and many on here give at the $1000 plus annual level already. And, yes, some on here are facing that donor fatigue as they are called upon time and time again. This is a good read from Brett. Although he does quote one guy who pretty much abandoned UNT for another local university. Sort of odd to quote him, but he is a UNT grad and maintains his Club seat so I guess he’s legit. But, that’s Brett. He just couldn’t resist even though he had plenty of others he could have called for that quote. will things change? Will new folks step up? Can we find some “big” ($1,000,000) donors to replace or add to the “big five” that Mr McNatt refers to in the article? Don’t know, but do know there are plenty...plenty...of very successful UNT grads “out there” that have the resources to do so. Our advancement folks just need your help (and mine) in finding them and bringing them to the table. Thanks to everyone here who does donate, do buy season tickets and do support UNT...you are part of the solution and I salute you. Please help UNT find new supporters just like you!

As a side note...I do find it really interesting and ironic that the vast majority of the folks telling people that they can't go back to work in certain industries and who are keeping folks from returning to work are those who have not missed one...not one...paycheck throughout this entire ordeal. Just something about a guy telling others they can't earn a paycheck to feed their families and pay their bills all the while never missing his own pay check.

‘21 RB Keith Jackson - Missouri City [SIGNED LOI]
KRAM1 replied to 97and03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Not getting the least bit excited about any player and a commitment until that player signs on the dotted line to play for the Mean Green. Seen way way too many "star rated" players commit only to decommit and sign elsewhere when the "better offer" comes along. Hopeful he signs...not counting on any of the until they do. -
Going to be a bit challenging to give tickets to someone if you have to miss a game if they are on-line. What about parking passes?

Former UNT WR now Cowboys FB Jamize Olawale Opts Out
KRAM1 replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
The "challenge" here for Olawale as I see it is has he forfeited his position on the squad for good? The Cowboys have an undrafted free agent fullback out of TCU (I think) and McCarthy likes to use the fullback in his scheme. So, the free agent will get lots of opportunity to play and will be well versed in the offense after this season. Thus, potentially making Olawale expendable. I do not question his motives nor his stated interest to protect his wife and kids. That is his personal choice and I am sure he "weighed the potential consequences" of opting out of the season. Would just hate to see him lose his spot. The other possibility is that after eight years in the league he is tired of it and ready to move on. And, this gives him $150,000 as a "severance" that he would not have gotten had he simply "retired". No clue, I just hate to see a UNT guy not on the field. Will miss seeing him on Sundays. I wish him nothing but the best going forward. -
Covid update from Florida

Nope. Not the "system's" fault. Correct...nothing to see here folks. Unless, of course, you need another participation trophy. -

It doesn't. But a whole lot of the "everyone gets a ribbon" generation seems to think it does...see, when you don't have to earn things, your perspective gets a tad "changed".- 71 replies

Pac 12 players threatening a boycott of games
KRAM1 replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe...maybe not. NFL Europe wasn’t profitable for the NFL. And, none of the recent versions of “pro” ball spinoffs have been profitable or lasted any time at all. NFL owners are too smart to give up the golden goose that is college football today to toss a bunch...a bunch...of cash into a “B” league that could even have a remote chance of being profitable. Jerry Jones is not in the habit of backing money losing propositions. Especially when he gets all he wants from a “developmental” league now for free called the NCAA. Just doesn’t make financial sense to me. -

Why would the NFL spend money on this when they have a free minor league in the NCAA? The owners are not that financially challenged and probably did not get in the financial position to buy an NFL franchise by making financially stupid decisions. -

Rose Bowl cancelled it's annual parade recently...cannot be a good sign.

If everyone wore a mask that says TRUMP 2020 you can bet that within five minutes or less the left would be out saying masks are no longer necessary! Have to admit...not original with me and the source was not listed...but, come on, in this political climate in which we find ourselves...you have to admit this is funny...true...but funny!

Fingers crossed this is something we need to "worry" about...right now I am worrying if there will be college football as conferences and universities keep opting out of the season entirely, move their seasons to the spring or simply cancel entirely. Fingers crossed as it would be a VERY long fall without college football.

Hamlet, before he graduates, could make a lot of us forget about Woolridge's time at UNT. Hamlet has learned to play solid defense under Coach Hodge and Coach McCasland to go along with his offensive output which will give Hamlet a great shot of furthering his playing career after he graduates. I enjoyed watching Ryan play and wished he would have stayed at UNT, but if his leaving meant we got Hamlet as a replacement, I am more than good with that exchange.

JFC..if you are proud of it act like it. FYI..Benford has been gone several years and our program is back under some great coaching leadership. You seem to forget that UNT won the conference championship just this last year along with that CBI championship you seem to disregard as second or third rate. Then you announce that you wouldn’t list you alma mater on your playing resume if you we’re Woolridge. So, JFC, have some pride. Open your eyes and see what is currently happening under Coach Mac and Company. I may be “dense”, but I am always on the side of my Alma Mater..unlike you it seems if you have a chance to list some other university you seems to think is better on your resume. Sure...like I said..imagine having some loyalty to your alma mater. Imagine that, huh? And, by the way, get you head out of the sand..the comments were directed primarily at someone who would “hide” UNT on the resume to highlight some one-year university that you see as “better” than UNT for resume purposes. Imagine having pride in your University..yep...imagine that???? And, don’t go off on me bucko...you were the one suggesting he list Gonzaga as his university as it would be better than listing UNT...you with two degrees from UNT. Big friggin’ deal...join the very big crowd.

North Texas vs Oklahoma State 11/13/2020
KRAM1 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Basketball
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! Should be a good one. And, OSU darn well better not be looking past the Mean Green. I expect a close game and an exciting one in front of, hopefully, a rocking full house with more green than orange. Get your tickets from the UNT Ticket Office! -
Ahhhh...the ability to be proud of your university.

Ahhhhh...loyalty

Life has no “bulletproofs”. One of the challenges faced with this thing is that way way too many people think everything should be “bulletproof”. News flash...not happening.

And, so it continues. Perfect “cover” found to pare down athletic budgets that have been getting harder and harder for many schools to maintain.
