Tasty....I hope you get "instant gratification" with everything you do in life. Go ahead...snap your fingers and everything will be fine. With that attitude, you are setting youself up for some very big disappointments in life. I wish you all the luck in the world. I just have learned through the years that you can enjoy supporting your team along with lots of other fans without getting so frustrated. I would assume that everyone, including me, wants to win and to win NOW, but there is also such a thing as reality. You might want to catch a little of that and realize that it will be a bit before the Mean Green turn this thing around. Which they will by the way... I'll enjoy the ride so much more, and, yes, PAYBACK is sweet!

YES IT IS!

VERY GOOD question...I have been pondering the same thing in recent days. Seems to me that the spread may be a bit "past its prime" as a total offensive plan...I tend to think the future needs to be a variation of sets from the veer to the spread to the option to even some of the old t-fornation sets would be interesting and would certainly keep defenses "off balance". I just see the spread as the current "wish-bone". Nice until everyone figures it out. Seems folks are "figuring it out" on all levels from high school to the pros. You had to believe it would happen sooner or later. I am sure Coach Dodge will figure all this out. The guy can coach and so can DeLoach. Believe it!

I've been around UNT football since 1965...so, yes, I have witnessed my share of tough seasons...but, there have also been some great ones! This one may rank up there in the "tough ones" by the end of the season, BUT, for goodness sakes, the season is not over...FOUR games, folks, four games....I do believe UNT has a few more to play. Let's not sing the "the party's over, turn out the lights" so soon. I still think UNT will win more games than it did last season. It is amazing what a win can do for you....OCT. 4th...FIRST win in 2008. Make it so.

UNT gets better fastest by allowing the dept., the coaches and the players to do their jobs! This program is heading in the right direction, but IT WILL TAKE TIME..and it will absorb several more lopsided losses in the process. UNT has a classic rebuilding program underway, and has good leadership. Just give it some time, give the coaching staff time to recruit their own "guys", give the players time to bond as a team...yes, it can take some time...and perhaps, hopefully, get over being pounded at the start of each season for the $$$$ games. Anyone who thinks Tulsa is not a good team, think again...and where have you been? Yoou obviously do not follow college football very closely. Tulsa is not "your father's program at the moment". Yes, IO can agree that Rice is a team that is "beatable", but K-State, LSU and Tulsa were pretty much "L's" when scheduled! Time folks, time....payback is great! And, payback days will come for the UNT football program. BELIEVE IT! GO MEAN GREEN!

Yep, tough loss...team is a bit yound and still trying to get all the pieces in place...all is not lost...wins will follow! GO MEAN GREEN!

Frustration is one thing...some of the comments border on surrender and giving up on the team and program. EVERY single member of the MEAN GREEN NATION has to be frustrated, but the extent of some of the comments are just way over the top. Yes, Rice beat the crap out of UNT yesterday....let the record so show...just think of how sweet revenge and payback will be....you might recall that Troy beat Oklahoma State pretty bad last year...have you noticed the score of last night's OSU-Troy game??? Payback is so very sweet. The Mean Green will recover...I just hope all the folks here calling for head's and speaking doom and gloom will recall that they too GAVE UP on the team when they were struggling. Such is the way it goes with some folks...you pay the ticket price you get to cheer or boo! I have no problem with that view, just find it sad that so many folks "give up" so quickly and so easily. GO MEAN GREEN.....
-
WOW...talk about surrender!!! I had hoped that when I looked at GoMeanGreen this morning I would see disappointment, but not the deafeatist attitude I discovered. Get a grip folks...Yes, this was an embarrasing loss to Rice. I though we had a decent shot of hanging in there for an upset win or at a minimum a close games decided late. Didn't happen, but I am not at the point of slitting my wrists as some on this board seem to be. WOW...what a bunch of "poor me" I am reading. Yes, I may be a "homer", and I know my glasses have a rose hue to them, but now is not the time to "jump ship". Take a breath, relax and remember that what we can do to help the program is to stay positive, go to the games, supprt the new stadium and remain firm in our support of UNT in its effort to rebuild a program very much in need of rebuilding. If the team gave up last night, perhaps it has something to do with a scheduled designed for $$ but also designed to beat the crap out of the team early. Think that might just create a bit of "attitude" problems for the coaches??? Maybe even cause some problems in the coaching staff itself??? Gee....can you imagine. Time to pull together, not rip and rip at the team and its coaching staff. If you are a member of the MEAN GREEN NATION and not just one who wants to bitch constantly here on GMG.com...hang in there...I KNOW we will all be rewarded when the wins start happening...AND THEY WILL. GO MEAN GREEN!

I have degrees from two other universities, Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Missouri. I am a proud memebr of the MEAN GREEN NATION and woill stay that way through this very difficult rebuilding time. Yes, it is tough, but so be it...it's pretty much like life itself...when things are going well, everyone wants to be your friend, but let things get tough and you will find out who your real friends are and who you can actually count on when things get tough. I'll stay with the MEAN GREEN! Yes, I pull and support both OSU and CMU too as a lifetime member of both Alumni Associations and annual donations and somewhat irregular trips to visit both, but it's the MEAN GREEN that gets my #1 loyalty and support. Hang in there...things will get better...don't be one of the "fair weather" friends.....

CHILL OUT EVERYONE...the sun will shine today...and UNT will recover and get better. It has too, can't get much lower after the pounding RICE gave UNT yesterday. I do think this is the result of scheduling they type of games UNT schedules as "opening games". It's tough on the team, the coaches, the fans, etc. to go into games against the likes of LSU, etc., etc. and not come out with a bit of a down attitude. This too will change.... Hold your head's up...stop the "surrender" attitude and stay a member of the MEAN GREEN NATION......GO MEAN GREEN.

This type of talk is just CRAP! Sounds like a defeatist attitude to me. TD HAS taken responsibility for the team's level of play. YES, the state of UNT football at the moment is pretty poor, but I am going to take the approach that UNT has "officially hit bottom" and now is on the way up. It is going to be a rough road, but it will lead to better times. BUT, just when the team and program needs its fans the most is not the time to start crying and start surrendering! It is time to rally around the program and show that UNT has GREAT fans and has support to get the job done. Time to look in the mirror and decide...are you behing the program or not? Either way, your call, but for me...I choose the former. GO MEAN GREEN...no surrender here! BUT, yes it was one BAD game...absolutely terrible against RICE...but, get over it...there is another GAME next week. You do realize that it is a game, right? GO MEAN GREEN!

Silver Eagle... to all who think "words" are all it takes to be President, I give you the motto of the United States Merchant Marine Academy..."ACTA NON VERBA". Pretty speeches are fine, but I vote to send my elected reps to Washington to actually do something, to represent me and all citizens and to actually VOTE on the important issues of the day! I can see it now....Iran attacks Isreal and Congress is voting on sending troops and aid to Isreal and President Obama votes...PRESENT! He was too busy making a pretty speech! PRICELESS!!!!

That mall you are referring to is probably the Galleria in Houston. Nice mall by the way...much like our galleria in Dallas.

So, how does Rick benefit from the union? Just wondering what they do for him that he would not be able to do without paying union dues if there were no union????? Just asking? Maybe back in the 1930's there was a vaild point to this union "stuff", but today? Seems to me the fat cat union executives just want to keep the unions going to fatten their own pockets. Seems to me unions are losing members nationwide and giving more and more "concessions" just to "stay alive". OK, since I am not a union member, and not overly favorable of them...I think I'll back off and out of this thread...anyone is welcome to reply/rebutt...no problem...go ahead. I am "out of here"....but it is an interesting thread....

SilverEagle...I guess you do not know that Obama is a current member of the US Senate. Where have you been? He would be in the group to be THROWN OUT! Gee, can I introduce you to TV, radio, the newspaper? I thought everyone knew Obama was a current senator although he does seem to not be able to make a decision when votes are taken in the senate..... loves that "present vote". Too bad the President cannot vote "present". OK, SilverEagle just kidding you a bit.....

UNTFlyer...My hero! Once more...a big "THANKS" for all you are doing to help UNT grow and become an even better university! The music student had a super point...I hope the word spreads. I agree as have seen how many folks come for band competitions, etc., etc. The City of Denton...and the "I think they are doing something...old boys club" Denton Sports Commission should both get behind this stadium and do all they can to help see that it is funded and built ASAP. I think BOTH the "whatever they do" Sports Commission and the City of Denton are missing a great opportunity to help the entire community...and themselves if they do not get in gear and work to see the stadium funded and built as soon as possible. GO MEAN GREEN!

And, you are surprised about this how?????

Today's Dallas Morning News reports under the headline "Soccer Team to begin Conference Season"....I quote: The UNT men's soccer team will open Sun belt Conference play today with a game at Louisiana-Lafayette." WOW...UNT has a men's soccer team all along and I missed it! Oh, be still my heart!!!!! I just knew the athletic department would come to their collective senses and field a men's soccer team before baseball!!!! Oh, Happy Days!!!!

I saw that 1978 UNT win over Oklahoma State...as a grad of both schools it is always fun for me to go to one of these games...basketball or football, etc., etc. I can't lose! Ha! However, I cheer for UNT to win and OSU to play a great game and lose late. So, this '78 game was a good one...I remember being excited about the stop by UNT at the end of the game, but sad for OSU at the same time. FUN..FUN! I have to be careful when the games are in Stillwater!

Those of you who think Rice is a "nobody" are silly. Rice has some good athletes and is NOT easy prey for "schools in its league" as they say. Sure, they will get the "you know what" kicked out of them in the early games too, but they need dollars for their program just like UNT does, so they endure these "money games". If...IF...UNT loses to Rice Saturday in Houston it will NOT be the end of the world for UNT football. If you thought UNT was going to win six games this season you were either dreaming or smoking something "funny". Calm down and enjoy the ride UP because that is where UNT Football is headed...IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE..let me say that again...IT TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE. I find it as frustrating as any MEAN GREEN fan that UNT is not beating the snot out of everyone right now, but the wait and the patience will pay off and will make PAY BACK all that much sweeter. Hang in there MEAN GREEN FANS...reign your expectations in a bit, get realistic as to where the program is right now and think aboput how great it will be watching the MEAN GREEN WIN in that new stadium...WOW...good time are coming...yes, they are! GO MEAN GREEN!

I would place union executives/bosses in exactly the same catagory as those executives on Wall Street who did, in fact, take advantage of the situation for their personal gain. Not all Wall Street executives fall into that catagory as not all union exceutives fall into that catagory. Both, however, seem to have only the continuation of their own greed and pleasure at the core of their being! Union executives, like those on Wall Street who did such damage to the financial system, will do most anything to stay in power...sort of like the idiots we have in Congress these days on BOTH sides of the aisle. I ask you...what in the world were they doing 6-7 years ago when this problem was beginning to develop???? Asleep at the wheel...that's where. Throw the bums out...all of them and start over!!!!
-
Let's pack the place and get the walls rockin' for "old times sake"! Should be fun...and can we do something special for the Middle Tenn game on New Year's Eve?????? Hey, let's sell beer in the Super Pit!!!!!! Come on, folks, it's New Year's Eve.....we can use paper cups even!
-
SilverEagle...great Jefferson quote! Well done...but you do realize that Jefferson favored a Republic and not a Democracy as he did not feel everyone should be allowed to vote! He favored the vote for the "elite"...not all us "common folk". Anyway, in some professions you have to be a memebr of a union or you cannot get work. AND, Unions are not always fighting for better pay and wages...they fight often for their own self preservation and the salaries of their leadership! My son, a graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy, was REQUIRED to join a union in order to work on a Merchant Ship as an officer. He was REQUIRED to pay union dues whether he wanted to or not in order to be employed. They forced him to turn over a decent bit of pay in the form of Union Dues to have the opportunity to seek merchant seaman employment! NICE! Thank goodness Texas is a right to work state. In Texas at least Rick gets to choose whether he wants to join the union and pay the dues if he so chooses. I do realize that there are many professional unions out there that do very good work, so don't rip me for being 100% anti-union. I just don't favor "forced membership and forced salary reductions in the form of union dues".

If you would like an academic's thoughts on this "global warming" thing and how it is being politicized google "Richard S. Lindzen", Program in Atmosphere, Oceans and Climate, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and see if you can find his recent (9-19-2008) paper entitled "Climate Science: Is It Currently Designed To Answer Questions?". You might find it interesting in what is said about the politics involved in Atmospheric Science these days and how folks with dissenting positions on global warming are treated in the academic and non-academic world these days. It is about 35 pages long, including references, so it is a bit "challenging" to read for a non-scientific type like me, but it is well worth reading...from the abstract I quote, "When the issue becomes a vital part of a political agenda, as is the case with climate, then the politically desired position becomes a goal rather than a consequence of scientific research. This paper will deal with the origin of the cultural changes and with specific examples of the operation and interaction of these factors. In particular, we will show how political bodies act to control scientific institutions, how scientists adjust both data and even theory to accomodate politically correct positions, and how opposition to these positions is disposed of." OK, I dare you to read this with an open mind...the guy is from MIT...not known for its conservative stance on many issues...so libs and conservatives...read this if you will with the mind open. Interesting to say the laest about how the global warming "issue" is handled by some in the name of political correctness and to keep those grant dollars flowing. I am 100% sure this guy will be "beaten up badly" by many who disagree with him. I just hope he hides his Hummer or Jeep from those who show their "disagreements" in "special" ways! OK, can you take a DARE! Tough reading and not "light" at all...but.....do you dare?
