  1. DODGE WILL turn this thing around...give him the 3-4 years any coach deserves to get it done...just hang in there....GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  2. NICE JOB DERRICK!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. This is a young man...by all accounts a very good young man...who decided to leave the team. He made the decision, for whatever reason. That reason was good enough for him and he will handle the results of that decision. I think it's time for all those who are not "walking in his shoes" to lay off. The team will move forward, others will get opportunities and the sun will come up today and tomorrow for everyone. I understand the "you don't quit on your team" stuff that some are discussing here, but the team will not suffer because of this situation. If you talk to him and his teammates that were close to him you might find they "understand". Anyway, hold down the indignation folks...it's a young man who left a football team. Move on. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Linebacker perhaps??? Project???? Perhaps... player? MOST DEFINITELY. UNT needs players.
  5. The DMN has a sports section page 1 article on District 9-5A Defensive Player of the Year... 5-11, 240 pount nose tackle Nikita Whitlock. The article says only SMU has offered a scholarship to date, but UT-El Paso, TCU and Utah State have also expressed interest. Where is UNT's interest???? The kid can obviously play, he is in UNT's "backyard", is a bit "undersized" (think Booger Kennedy) for a nose tackle....BUT, for gosh sakes...is this not a kid UNT should have already offered a scholarship to if SMU has????? I am by no means a qualified recruiter, but seems to me that this kid could fit a need for UNT, and UNT is not even mentioned as having "expressed an interest"???? What's up with that? If SMU has offered a scholarship he might have grades and "qualify" for enrollemnt even..... Anyone know about this kid?
  6. Who cares? If I watch any series at all in the best of five it won't be until one team has won two games and as for the non-World Series, if I watch at all (I'll need at least 3.5-4.5 free hours available) it will be after one team has won three games. My wish is that the Cubs win it all. After 100 years it might be fun to watch the final game or two in that run for the flag! Just trying to have some fun folks. That "stuff" on the football thread is really negative and hostile. Can't believe some of the stuff being written by "Mean Green Fans".
  7. Where is the info coming that the stadium vote is "not looking good"? I hope it is just a "feeling", as "feelings" can often be misunderstood.
  8. Let me just say this...my son was less than 3 days old when he attended his first UNT basketball game...and he was less than a week old when I went skiing with some frinds in Vermont...leaving Mom at home....that little vent is still mentioned every once in awhile, so I don't recoomend a trip with the boys quite that soon.... Now, all that being said...you have to make that call yourself! I would think it would be fine since your wife should have plenty of "help" around like newly minted grandparents, etc. BUT, why not take your wife and new kiddo to the game????? Hey, we did a UNT basketball game at 3 days old...and our son grew up to be the UNT basketball ball boy for many years!!!! BTW>>>> My congratulations to you and your wife on the birth of your child...GREAT NEWS...a newly born member of the MEAN GREEN NATION!!!!! I wish you guys nothing but the best....
  9. The kind of neighborhood that would allow pit bulls to run loose!
  10. And, just why would any player NOT show up for the meeting? I do not believe the team has quit on itself or the coaching staff. If some players did not show up, and if they had no legitimate excuse for not being there...dump them and dump them now. If they are on scholarship...take it away as soon as possible. This team and this program needs BELIEVERS and players who want to make it happen. If any player does not think they can be part of the rebuilding program and give 100% them ADIOS and don't let the door hit your rear on the way out. Hmmmmmm...that's pretty much the way I feel about fans (fans?????) who have given up on this team and this coaching staff. UNT and this program does not need your negative attitude.... I don't mean those who are disappointed in results or have "concerns" about the coaching staff or direction of the program....but, if a "fan" of the program has given up...and they certainly know who they are.....take a hike and find a team you can support. Again....I AM NOT talking about folks who have expressed some "displeasure" on this site...that is to be expected from MEAN GREEN NATION members who have suffered through many tough times and feel this may be just another one...I don't agree, but their opinions are as valid as anyone else who is more positive at this time...not any more supportive, just who "sees" the current situation in a more positive light...get it? Hope so...
  11. UNT- 38 FIU - 28 18,500 in attendance. MAKE IT SO! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  12. The SKY IS NOT FALLING....just like it is not falling on UNT football as some on this board want to suggest. The Dems couldn't even get their own party to go along...if the Dems Ms Polesi so highly praised yesterday had voted for the bill it would have passed. It did not pass because it stinks and some in Congress, both Republican and Democrat, figured that out before it was too late. Thanks for the few who had the guts to vote "no". A bill will get done and will get passed...just let's all take a deep breath and calm down a bit. Let's let the time necessary to put a decent package together takes its course. Why jump into something that is BAD just to "do something". And to those that actually think over $1 trillion was "LOST" yesterday...hold on there a moment...did you sell? If you sold, perhaps you lost and locked in those losses. If you did not sell you did not "lose" anything....except on paper. Market is up this morning...so, we'll see if we get some "recovery" today so the papers can cream..."$300BILLION GAINED BACK TODAY"! Geezzzz...get some perspective, please! I told my 29 year old son last evening to buy everything he could NOW in the market. Lots of folks will make lots of money NOW!
  13. Coach Dodge and his staff will have another good recruiting year. Since when does one judge a recruiting class after one season or less?
  14. Nice to see some "positive" comments for a change on this board. You would think GMG.com was part of the main stream "we don't report anything but bad news" media from some of the recent threads. THE SKY IS NOT FALLING!
  15. My tickets are in good hands with another alum for this game...wife and I have to be in St. Paul for a wedding...don't these folks know UNT has a home game this weekend????? You would think they could plan better....even if they are from Minnesota!!!! UGH. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  16. Part of the problem in the "minor" sports such as soccer is the lack of full scholarships....when a big deal is a 25% scholarship...and some get such big time assistance as "books", it is easy to see why there may be some "non-returnees" to the team each season. College sports are hard...let's be real about that. The players work very hard and for long hours and then have all the academics, etc., etc. that every other student has to handle. This is much more "true" in the lesser sports than in basketball and football by the way. The team is young, so we can expect some losses, but I think the season will be another strong one for UNT Soccer. GO LADIES!!!! GO MEAN GREEN SOCCER!
  17. Greenjoe...when will I see your guest editorial? I think you would make a great guest. I thought the editorial from the paper was WAY OFF BASE and just another example of the "town and gown gap" in Denton. I believe the DRC editor is a grad of Oklahoma State and I can assure you that OSU students pay more for football tickets and student athletic fees than do the students at UNT.
  18. Geeezzzzz...I hope you folks are not as negative about everything else as you are an 0-4 start to a college football season. NO ONE is happy or satisfied with the start...not the administration, not the coaches, not the fans and certainly not the players. So, you have a choice....give up or get behind the program and enjoy the ride up! If you don't believe things will get better and that UNT is "doomed" give up...go ahead...you buy the tickets, you make the donations, so you get to choose. And, your feelings and thoughts are as legit as anyone's else's and worth about the same. It's pretty much like the election...you are either a McCain supporter or an Obama supporter and none of the postings on this site (or probabaly any other) are going to change your mind about it this close to the election. You can either see past the present "mess" on the field or you can't. I can't imagine bringing a new coach into any program and then giving up on him, his staff or his team after one season and four games...I think a coach should have the chance to field a team of "his recruits" before any decision should be made. I seem to recall several posts when TD was first hired that there should be patience and that this could be a 3 year process to regain respectability and start winning on a regular basis. Call it what you want, maybe it is age, but I will "hang in there" and give the program a decent opportunity to turn things around...which I do think will happen. Those folks in Nebraska are none too happy with the last few years record on the field, but notice that they just had their 290th something straight sellout! No one seems to be giving up while they wait for the turnaround to the glory days of Nebraska football...if that ever returns! Get a good night's sleep...you could be paying the prices that Texas A&M fans have to pay! ha!
  19. All in good fun...sure I took a bit of kidding this morning at the office. Why not? I have given some out also to my TX A&M, Baylor, Arkansas, etc. co-workers. This is just part of what makes being a college football fan so much fun. I told one of my co-workers that I was 4-4 for the year! Sure, Oklahoma State is 4-0 and UNT is 0-4...I am also old enough to remember when it was exactly the other way around! It will be again! GO MEAN GREEN! HAVE FUN WITH IT....UNT will have a winning season record in the near future...believe it!

    0-4

Why is the Navy game in your list???? Just because they scored more than UNT did in a real knock down drag out shootout? If you were at the game, it was fun to watch...win, lose or draw. Unfortunately, UNT came out on the wrong end of the final score...but, I might remind you that Navy beat Wake Forest this last Saturday.
  21. Yes, you are.......Have you checked the UNT soccer roster? I don't think folks called the team young last season when they lost. Or, were you watching then?
  22. GoMeanGreen1999...I assume that means your circle of friends? I just wonder where that info comes from? I am not calling you out at all, but how do you determine that "handful of people" thing? I think one could say that about quite a few teams, college, high school and professional and not just in football. Anyway, it's only the folks on GoMeanGreen.com that count, right????
  23. Eagle1855...do not despair. UNT and The Texans will not go winless this season. Hang in there...you will be rewarded for your patience.
  24. John Denver...there was plenty of "abuse" to go around INCLUDING the folks who took out the mortgages they obviously could not afford in the first place! I have to assume that anyone taking out a mortgage could read, had a job and had at least a moderate amount of education. Those folks should not get a pass! This whole mortgage "crisis" had its roots back in the Carter Admin days when the "banks" were "cahllenged" by the fed to make mortgages more affordable and open to the "masses". Nice comendable goal, I agree 100%. But, when you lower standards to make that happen...the end result over time is often just what we are seeing today. Mortgage loans for 0% down with stated income is a plan for disaster....the idea that you can put $0 real cash down, get a second for the " equity stake and do it all with a low front end adjustable rate mortgage is a disaster waiting to happen. Lots of blame to go around here...including the people who "bought" way more house then they could afford. Let's not let anyone off the hook here....there is such a thing as personal responsibility even though there are plenty of people willing to pass the blame off on someone else. I do not recall seeing anyone hold a gun to anyone's head and force them to sign those mortgage papers. Who says you have to "buy as much house as you can afford" because homes will always go up in value? WRONG WRONG WRONG! How about everyone get back to buying the size and priced home that your personal cash flow and debt service abilituy says you can afford? However, just let the banks go back to requiring honest income verifications, adequate down payments and adequate debt analysis and watch all the "usual suspects" start complaining that the big bad banks are locking folks out of the American Dream of home ownership!!!!!!
