GREAT IDEA! I vote "yes"! -
If I am not mistaken...our firend and fellow GoMeanGreen.com board member...DREX...had the original idea for this flag. I think we owe DREX a big "thank you" if, in fact, that IS the case. Drex...you out there???? GO MEAN GREEN!

OK, let me say this...I took absolutely NO offense to Rick's comments regarding soccer...nor do I to anyone else who "jabs" me about my love for the "beautiful game". I know it's all in fun and I agree 100% with your comment, OLDGUYSTUDENT, about "to easch their own" when it comes to the sports they choose to follow. I am "pretty tough" on the baseball guys on this board and they respond in kind to my soccer comments...all in fun...at least from my side of the thing. Baseball to me is a "players game". It was the ONLY sport I was even remotely decent in when I played (and I did play both football and baseball some in HS) as a catcher...love that position...QB on the diamond...everything in front of you...great position to play! BUT, it puts me to sleep watching on TV and often in person...with the exception of some RoughRider and college games. So, look for more "baseball" comments down the road....with a big dose of soccer "greatness" thrown in the mix. But, let's do keep it friendly...wouldn't want to get anyone thrown off the board....well, maybe Quoner needs a "red card" from time to time...BTW...where is Quoner??? He's sort of like the dog spot...gets under your feet every time you walk in the door and you get upset with him always being around and under foot, but when he's gone for awhile you tend to think to yourself..."I wonder where old spot is?"..... QUONER???? certainly no admin banned you...or did they??? -
Just a question...your topic title indicates to me that you believe Coach Dodge has such a big ego that he would put that ahead of the program. Could you explain a bit for me? I have talked with Coach Dodge several times in person and have heard him speak many times in the public arena, heard him on radio and watched him coach games. It has never struck me that "ego" was a problem. Every athlete and every coach certainly has a "ego"...they would in a ego-centric career field...they HAVE to believe in themselves and what they are doing...but, I would agree that an ego running wild would be a problem. I simply have not seen this side of Coach Dodge...so, could you explain what you mean a bit? Seems what one might see as an ego "too big" others might see that as "confidence" that the job can and will get done. To answer the question...I do believe Coach Dodge will make whatever changes he feels are necessary to get the program on a "winning footing" as quickly as possible. And, no, I do not see that ego would be a problem in making whatever changes he feels are required. I see Coach DeLoach as a prime example of that...now, if we can just hold on to Coach DeLoach. On that topic...with the defense struggling as much as it is...AND IT CERTAINLY IS...why are you not providing suggestions to Coach DeLoach as to what he needs to do and questioning if he will make personnel changes? Where are the folks on this board who call for Dodge's job when it comes to DeLoach? Yes, I know the head coach is responsible for the entire program, but the board has certainly been quiet when it comes to Coach DeLoach and his defense. Just wondering. And, let me say again...I like Coach DeLoach and I hope he will be back next season....so there!

LIFER...MISL???? Major Indoor Soccer League??? Is that6 still going on???? BTW...Celtic played Manchester United yesterday....Man U won 3-0 in a very VERY exciting Champions League game...except for a couple of questionable "off sides" by the ref crew! Did't take nearly as long as last night's Series Game which came in at a "rapid" 3 hours and 23 minutes. 13 total hits in a 3hr 23 min. game between both teams....yep, a real barn burner for excitement that one! Eight different pitchers...geezzzzz, can't someone pitch a complete game these days????? How ver exciting are those pitching changes??? OK, just "pulling your chain" a bit....while I did not watch the game, I am sure baseball fans were happy with the game and the "excitement" level. I'll watch after one team or the other has 3 wins...then the game will finally mean something.... I still say "WORLD SERIES"...what a joke...I believe only one country is playing and only one country is allowed to enter this "WORLD" chapionship! -
Early Voting

VOTE...I did it Tuesday...great to see all the early voters....vote, it really is your DUTY as a citizen of this GREAT NATION of ours!!!! Thanks to all who have already voted....to everyone else...GET IT DONE! -
I have stayed at Oklahoma State U's Atherton Hotel several times....great hotel and perfect location on campus. Yes, it is "old", but they have recently done a VERY nice upgrade...rooms are great and last year they gave us a "rubber ducky" for the bathtub as we checked out...checked out, by the way to head back to Denton for the Saturday game after Thanksgiving...Man, that was a cold one!
-
YEP, you are correct, sir...and the "high school" assistant comments, while a bit harsh in the choice of language used, is also correct. The positive I see is that Dodge has shown he will do something about that...I do, however, hope we can hang on to DeLoach for next season...UNT needs his experience and expertise so very much. Coach Dodge...are you listening?????
-
Dr. Lowe was not only the "winningest" coach in UNT history he was a great professor of history and a super guy! Anyone know what he is up to these days? You should hear the story about how one of the players was "arrested" as the team crossed into Mexico for a tournament one year....PRICELESS Story! I heard it from the player's brother...had to do with a visa or passport question. Really funny! Those were the days!

That's the spirit, Shaft, withdraw support when the going gets tough and jump right on that bandwagon when the wins start flowing. If you don't like where the football team is going, why not give to "other" athletic areas???? Or, academic areas for that matter???? Let me get this straight...if the football team doesn't win you withdraw all support from the entire University? OK, your call. I simply don't get it.

Is it? No one is "ignoring" the negatives...just check out the board if you think they are...including me, but it is much more foolish to be calling for Dodge's head at this point than finding reasons to be hopeful and positive. If anyone thought UNT was going to be in the running for a SBC crown at this stage or even posting winning seasons I want to drink and smoke some of what they were drinking and smoking. Yep, I sure thought UNT would be winning more games at this point and am very disappointed that they are not...that has to change and change fairly quickly. But, I choose to believe that Dodge will get it done. You are free to believe whatever you wish to belive...... Just, make sure you are in your seats for the game Saturday. This team and this program needs our support. I, for one, will provide all of that I can. AND, I will choose to stay very positive in my support! GO UNT...GO MEAN GREEN...SEE YOU AT FOUTS SATURDAY!!!!!

SHAFT....SAD comments...so very sad. No one here is enjoying the season so far, but Dodge will get this thing turned around. I hope you will print a "retraction" to your comments when you see that happen. And, come on...try to have a better day. It's a lot more fun to see the positives than the negatives. GO MEAN GREEN...See you at Fouts Saturday!

You are correct that attendance was disappointing, but the event was not marketed nor executed properly. Thus, my comment about "doing it right" earlier. If you are not willing to put concerted effort behind getting something like this off the ground and going then don't do it at all. Perhaps that's the decision that was made. Who knows? Drex?????

I have wondered the same thing for a few years...seems to me that the BB program is missing a great opportunity to "drum up" support from both the campus and the community. Could be GREAT fun....BUT, some one would have to take the lead and the head coaches would have to be in favor of it...that might just be the answer why UNT doesn't have "madness"....they did, however, give it a half-hearted try once as I recall... DREX...are you out there? can you enlighten us any as to why no "madness" to kick-off the BB season?????

I agree that it would be nice if more of the coaches lived in Denton...but when some here are even calling for Coach Dodge to "win now or leave" why would coaches sell homes and move anywhere? The coaching profession is very "unsecure" as everyone here knows, so I understand why some are a bit "uneasy" with the move thing. Maybe in a couple of years when the support is there to a greater level. On another note...Coach Dodge has been very visable in the Denton area. You cannot name a civic club that he has not spoken to and visited with. many on more than one occasion. He has a radio show every week in denton iopen to the public he visits schools, etc., etc. Sure he would be seen more if he lived here, but the guy does a very nice job of getting around the community. During the season is not the time to spend tons of time making speaches to clubs around town...it is time to work on gameplans, etc., etc. He is VERY visable around town in the off-season. I will agree that I have not encountered many of the assistants in town...but maybe that is by design...I don't know about that. But, to say Coach Dodge is "not around" is really not correct...at least not from my perspective. Maybe I just run into him alot, but I don't think that's the case.

Found an old 1992 UNT Men's Soccer program brochure yesterday in some of my "stuff" at the house. The into gave a bit of history that I thought I might share with the Mean Green fans on this board...Here goes: The program became a varsity sport in 1976 (I think it was KILLED in about '93 or '94)...UNT had won 182 games through the 1991 season...13 under head coach Richard Lowe who had a personal record in his 12 years through 1991 of 135-64-17...ranking Lowe, at that time, among the winningest coaches in AMERICAN COLLEGE HISTORY!!!!! To 1992 the team had recorded 22 straight seasons without a losing campaignI recall going with the team to play in SMU's tournament during the 1992 season...UNT won that tournament AT SMU and man, did it hack off SMU!!!! Most fun I have ever had at a college soccer tournament. PRICELESS as they say! By the way, Coach Lowe was the Head Coach, but under Lowe were David Hudgell (current Head Coaching Director for the Dallas Texans Soccer Club) and none other than our own current head women's coach, John Hedlund! I hope you caught the 22 straight years without a losing season......By the way...some of our Men's Soccer Teams were "young" too! In fact the 1992 team had 21 freshmen or sophomores on the team out of a total of 28 (not all 28 were on the traveling squad). AND THEY WON!!!!!! OK, better stop here before I get too "misty eyed" recalling this great program...yes, it made the NCAA playoff's too!!!! GREAT STUFF...GREAT HISTORY!!!!! I do not believe ANY team program in the history of men's sports at UNT can match the success the men's soccer program had! AND THEY KILLED IT! Thanks Title IX (and thanks to a weak athletic administration at the time).

A Tale Of Two Douchebags
KRAM1 replied to JesseMartin's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The "attack dog" role is often played by the VP candidate. There is WAY too much emphasis on both Biden and Palin in this year's campaigns. It's a shame that the media "attacks" so much as well. This campaign is the prime example of why we need to limit fundraising and fund totals for campaigns and limit the allowed "campaign" days. And, come to think of it...TERM LIMITS for all politicians at EVERY level would be VERY nice. If ever the cry should come for real campaign finance (and overall campaign) reform, this campaign should be enough to get it going. I give both sides an F- for the way they have handled their campaigns. GOOD GRIEF. Grade School kids know better! Thank goodness the campaign will be over Nov. 5th. Unless, of course, McCain ends up winning and then the Dems will have the election tied up in court for weeks/months. You can count on that happening should McCain win. "Book it, Danno"!!!! -
UNTLifer...nice thoughts...seems I have been trying to get this same point across for some time now on this board. Glad there is someone else who feels the need to be supportive even when things are not going as we wish they would. man, I am so tired of the "I would have done it this way or that way" crowd. If you think you could handle it better, get the training, get the degree and go do it! I am behind you 100%, but "arm cahir" QB'ng everything that goes on is getting really old...especially if all the comments run to the negative. I think everyone on this board is fully capable of understanding what is happening to the team on the field this year...what we really may not be aware of is what is happening off the field, in the locker room, on the practice field and in the heads of quite a number of very young men.... If you don't like it when I comment about being positive and supporting the team NOW during a time it appears they really need our support, then maybe you will like Lifer's comments better...I don't care, I just care about UNT. GO MEAN GREEN!

VOTED! Done! Now, I have the right to "complain" for four more years!!!!! -
Just wait...it will be "GAFFE A MINUTE" if this guy makes it to the White House with Mr. Obama. At least the comics will have great material for at least four years! Does the guy ever think before he opens his mouth? Just wondering. BTW...I don't have too...I am not running for public office. Said that just in case Quoner is out there lurking in the wings somewhere just waiting for an opening line to pounce!

OK...I'll play too: SOCCER: Glascow Rangers and Coventry City FC and United States Merchant Marine Academy (GREAT DIII program) and UNT Women (along with the phantom UNT Men's team)...and FC Dallas College Football: UNT & Oklahoma State U. (in that order) Pro Football: Dallas Cowboys Pro baseball: If I had to pick one it would be the St. Louis cardinals (it was the closest major league team to Dallas when I was growing up in Dallas)...2nd: Rangers, but not much interest in either or pro baseball in general Hockey: Another "who cares" for me, but I do get the attraction for some folks....it's going to a fight and having a hockey game break out, right? Basketball: UNT and Oklahoma State - the pro game hold little/no interest with me SEE YOU AT FOUTS SATURDAY...GO MEAN GREEN!
