  1. Just in case someone got my initial question wrong...or thinks i am down on the team for some reason...you are 100% WRONG! I am in no way down on the team...in fact, I like what i see and think UNT has a great shot at another 20-win season and SBC crown. I just have noticed a bit of a trend...I call it a "BRAIN FREEZE" that happens during the game at certain times...so, I just asked if others have noticed the same...they may go into "brain freeze" mode, but they still come out of it in time to win at the end...Just think this will be tougher to pull off in conference play. Being "ypoung" has a bunch to do with it I would think... GO MEAN GREEN! And a Ho Ho Ho to all!
  2. I have my fingers crossed that IT IS NOT Deloach. UNT needs him and he needs to be "promoted" to assistant head coach and given help with the special teams...and stay with the "D" making it better and better. I agree that Deloach not being on the recruiting trail is not much of a worry. I understand that he has, in the past, not been much of a recruiter...one note...if that is the case, he probably will not move on the a head coaching job. Head Coaches had better be good and experienced recruiters.
  3. Sad, very sad...seems like this was a good guy who just couldn't give up the dream of playing pro ball. It is tough to give it up, I am sure, although I have no personal experience with that, but it does point out that there needs to be some sort of perspective for these kids as they develop as athletes as to what to do and how to prepare for a life after sports. I know many schools stress this, but perhaps there needs to be more emphasis placed on it at a younger age...as young as jr high perhaps. This is a real tragedy...this guy could have gone on to do good things, but now we wil never know...how very sad. How very sad.....
  4. Just wanted to say MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year to all GMG.com'ers out there in cyberspace. It has been a please reading all the comments from the Mean Green nation this past year, and I look forward to another GMG.com year in 2009. Agree or disagree, fine...just continue to support the MEAN GREEN! Have a great holiday with family and friends...mine will be nice as I alreday peeked and saw my wife has gotten me TWO UNT FLAGS, a UNT sweater vest, a new UNT tie and a new UNT running shirt...how's thgat for a MEAN GREEN CHRISTMAS???? GO MEAN GREEN...
  5. He will be miised, but has been quite ill the last couple of years. This guy was one of the GREATEST to ever play the game. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sam Baugh and his family...I am sure the Frog Nation is sad today as is the entire football community. One of the greats has died!
  6. OK, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the men seem to get a nice lead and then go into "stupid-ville" with their play before coming on at the end to win???? This is beginning to bug me a bit. Against HBU UNT should have blown them out oif the Pit by half-time, butas has been the case it seems, the team goes into Brain Freeze mode and fritters away a nice laed with really a bunch of mental errors and downright lazy play...not to mention some really bad decisions to drive to the basket at times instead of looking to pass to the open man. Could jusdt be me, but anyone else notice this trend? If this keeps up, conference play could be challenging and a 20-win season could be in peril....comments? However, I do enjoy watching the team play...it's exciting, they are young, they are good and Johnny will teach them how to win...I know that's true! Must learns: How to handle a press How to actually throw the ball in from OB How to at least look for the open man on breakaways and set plays How to slow it down when there is no open lane to the basket How to play smart and slow down the "street ball" plays All this will be long gone before the end of the season and UNT will have another shot 9in the Conference Tournament...I see another 20 win season...GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  7. OK, you know what...yep, it's 2011 and not 2010, BUT the stadium is being built and that IS the good news. Let's focus on the positive and the fact that something that UNT has needed for its program and university for a LONG time is getting done! UNT is closer that it has been to seeing the new stadium come to life...focus on the positives, folks...it will happen! And, as far as the new light bulbs for the home...I repalced about every on in my home during this last year...other than a few of the earlier ones that take awhile to brighten up, I couldn't be happier with them. Seems they did help costs on a monthly basis, and I was not KILLED OR INJURED when I dropped one and it broke in our den while being installed recently...none have burned out in the 18 mo. some have been installed and in use...one was replaced becaue it seemed to dim, but that's it! I like them! GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. OK, now here we see at least a glimer of positive thought for 2009...unless, of course, you folks are "pulling my leg again and I am falling for it" as has been the case in the past...but, I do think we will see a much improved UNT team in 2009...why? Experience at the head coaching position for one thing...say what you want, but Dodge is not stupid. He knows he needs to change some things up from a management stand point and I think he will. I, too, think DeLoach will be "turned loose" more in 2009 and will have the special teams in better shape...I think the QB competition will be good between Dodge and the G-Man...with the G-Man winning the starting nod. The SLC "msytique", if you believe in that stuff, will be a bit of a factor in the competition and Dodge will see some decent playing time next season...just not as the starter. Some of the JUCO players signed will help and some of the freshman and soph's will step up. As far as "W's and L's" for next season....way way too early to tell, but let's just say I think we will be celebrating multiple wins next season!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!!
  9. Don't get depressed so quickly....it does appear that UNT will sign some good JUCO players...signings will come...LB, DB and OL should come soon on the paperwork...have a little faith. Geeezzzz, already using the word "bust" with a class that only the JUCO's can sign letters for at this point is a bit negative, wouldn't you say? Come on......
  10. GREAT WIN...makes the SBC look better too! Gotta hand it to the Hilltoppers!
  11. YES, a show is planned for tonight...the Denton Chapter of the UNT ALUMNI ASSOC. is serving as "host"...just turning out really to support the program. I understand the time is still 6:30PM at the PourHouse. Hopefully, we can get a nice crowd to end the show's season on a positive note. I'm all about those "positive notes"! GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. I sure would have liked to have seen ALL the seniors get more time Saturday. Those guys have EARNED the time this season, but I read where Dodge said that all the seniors who wanted to play got to play. Did that mean that some did not want to play? I got to meet up with one senior's parents prior to the game and the Dad made, what i thought was an "interesting" comment...he said his son did not want any "pity time" and would not be playing much/at all on Saturday. To me, that was sad...good kid...good family...has earned the right to play, but, if he did not want to play, that is his call too. Would it really be "pity time"? Not in my mind...it would be "HARD EARNED AND WELL DESERVED TIME", but everyone has to make that call. This must have been a very frustrating time for many of our seniors and their parents...my hat is off to each and every one of them...it take quality and character to "hang in there" in this type of situation. Good for all of them, and thanks for all you did to try to make the MEAN GREEN the best it could be. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE SENIORS AND THEIR FAMILIES. WELL DONE!
  13. I read this article this morning, and I can't say that I disagree with anything Brett suggests as a way for Coach Dodge to move the program forward. While Vito did take a bit of a shot or two, overall I felt that the article was well done. Check it out and see what you think. I do think that Coach Dodge needs to be the "head coach" and let his assistants coach...and then evaluate the job they did and see if changes need to be made. Making Coach DeLoach the Assistant Head Coach is a good idea, IF he would then be "turned loose" to do his thing on defense. To me, I did not see a big move forward in our defense this year, but I do think, given the change to "do his own thing" that Coach DeLoach can and will move the defense forward. Tough year for the Mean Green faithful...glad it's over...and I am looking forward to the 2009 season already. I think we will all see a much improved Mean Green team IF only a few, but significant, changes are made by Coach Dodge. And, yes, I do want to see Coach Dodge back next season...after that, we'll see what positive steps are made in 2009. GO MEAN GREEN....Come out to the final Coach Dodge show of the season tonight at the PourHouse at 6:30pm and show your support for the program... See you there!
  14. So, already we have folks on this board predicting "all losses" in our OCC games for next season. WOW! Hard to believe folks have that much "negativity" going on in their lives...sorry, but this is no time to be so darn negative. WHY? Why do folks continue to see only negative in things? I really question that attitude, and I do believe it is one of the reasons UNT gets such little "respect" within its alumni base when compared to otjher universities of comparable size and status. Folks, it's time to stop all the negative crap and see if we can't come together as a MEAN GREEN NATION and try to pump some positive attitude into this program from it's fan base. If I were a member of the athletic dept. or the team, I would really start to question if the "fan base" is at all behind the program. Come on...I am not sticking my head in the sand regarding all the challenes the program faces, nor am I always drinking the kool-aid, as it were, but, it is a good bit more fun to find some positive to look at going forward...such as: New Stadium Program A bunch of young players with one more year of experience A Coach who is working hard to improve the program An AD who have proven that he will deliver on promises made A growing...yes growing...fan base Increased media exposure The knowledge that things need to change to get better...and the willingness to do something about it...yes, I do think that is true... A schedule that is less and less full of early season "money games" ETC., ETC. See you at the game today! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  15. I cannot belive anyone would defend this type of action with an indication that it wasn't a crime! Stebo, you have to be kidding me...tell me you are. Perhaps with the arrest the kid will think long and hard about pulling this CRIME again...or any crime for that matter. Sometimes a bit of "tough love" at the onset prevents much bigger problems in the future. Athletes tend to "get away" with this type of crime and some seem to follow the logic that if they just say they are sorry it will be fine...gee, why not? Shoplifting is a serious crime and it amounts to millions of dollars in losses to retain businesses annually. As such, it drives the price of everything up for everyone else who actually pay for the items they remove from a store. I hope Rucker learns his lesson...I hope he is allowed to earn his way back on the team, but he should be suspended until he figures out that this was far more than a "stupid act" by a yong person.... I am simply sick of this crap! And those who make excuses and write off this type of behavior as "no big deal" do need to think about it a bit more and really look into why they think it is not a problem. Perhaps it was said in jest or with tounge in cheek here, I do hope so, but, if not here, there are probably many other folks who feel the same way about this type of crime. Too bad!
  16. I, for one, was not that disappointed in the effort UNT gave last night. It was GREAT to be able to watch it live on TV, and I hope it gave UNT some decent exposure to recruits, etc. Like I said, i think UNT played well enough for the early season road game at OSU. I have seen the free throw "challenges" this team has, and it will be a BIG problem in conference and in the tournament if it is not corrected. I am not sure Johnny ever has the team practice free throws...if he does, it sure doesn't show. Anyone know for sure??? Also...man, this team is the worse I have EVER seen at handling the press. If OSU really decided to press all game, UNT would have really had a major problem. So, good to see these things come out early so they can beaddressed...and they will. The way UNT opened at home in it's first two games was sloppy...to be kind against teams it should have run off the floor by halftime! So, I did like the effort, the rebounding and the spirit the team played with at OSU...good to see, and I think it is only the beginning of another VERY GOOD year for the Mean Green. Should be fun...see you at the Pit Wednesday evening...man, my rear is still sore from the game at the snake pit! The green seats at the Super Pit will sure feel nice!
  17. Some very good points on both sides of the topic...seems to me that those that want to "bash" Dodge are in one camp and those looking to support him are in another, and never the two shall meet. Perhaps it is time to "move on" and talk about "other" areas of the program. For me, I am about as worn out discussing this topic than I am the presidential election. I agree that it is tough to be MEAN GREEN right now when it comes to the football program, but the players, coaches and staff still need our support for the remainder of the season..and beyond, of course. This season is close to "history" (and I will not be overly sad to see it end), but I will be in the stands for our last game thinking about the seniors who have worked their "you know whats off" to move this program forward. I hope each amd every one gets SIGNIFICANT playing time for their last home game on SENIOR DAY!!!! Thanks to all our seniors and their parents...it has not been an easy year for any of them, but I do think they can all look back with pride and a sense of some satisfation over their carrer at UNT. They are all CHAMPIONS in my book. Go Mean Green!
  18. Tasty...wow...you actually think I know anything at all about YouTube????? Tasty...sorry, but your comments just show how very little you know about the sport of "real" football. I refereed three games this morning and the scores were 2-2, 6-0 and 1-0 AND I can tell you the 1-0 game was the most exciting...shot after shot on both ends of the pitch, some absolutely fantastic saves by each teams goalkeeper and some absolutely brillant footwork from players on both teams. The problem with most fans of American sport is that they are either fans because "people hit or run into people"...think football and NASCAR.....or they want all scoring and no real defense ... think basketball...or they just want to sleep through about 31/2 hours of their life...think baseball. Soccer is about offense, defense and strategy in a 90 minute timeframe...no timeouts, no quarters and it is a players game once the clock starts...coaches have little to do with the outcome once the whistle blows...sorry you can't understand it, but then, I don't get the attraction of somer other sports like NASCAR and professional baseball...both bore me to tears...so, you like your games...I like mine. Good for both of us! And, please NEVER tape anything related to baseball or NASCAR on YouTube for me...PLEASE...I am begging you!!!!
  19. TICKETS ARE "IN HAND"....got 'em Fiday and yes...BIG envelope...what's up with that? I am sure the mail folks loved it! BTW...are we allowed into the women's games with our season tickets when they play on the same day....like we have been in the past? Just wondering...anyone know for certain?
  20. Should be great fun...thanks for the "reminders", drex! Spot on! GO MEAN GREEN...see ya at the "real" PIT!!!
  21. Very nice indeed. Thanks to the entire family. GO MEAN GREEN! It looks GREAT and should prove a great beneit to UNT...this is special. Great to see folks helping UNT move upward and onward! THANKS!!!!
  22. Tasty...bad attitude regarding soccer! Here we have a UNT team in a post-season tournament AT HOME no less..... GO UNT....I see a spot in the tournament championship and a win over Denver in that game forthe NCAA spot! Go UNT!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!
  23. That...Lifer...is a very TRUE statement! GO MEAN GREEN LADIES!!!!
  24. I firmly belive that history will treat President Bush much kinder than those who want to bash "Bush" and blame him for every challenge, problem, etc. under the moon. Those of you who study this sort of thing will certainly liken this current sentiment to that experienced by President Truman. President Truman also had a VERY low approval rating while in office. I do believe "history" has shown him to be a much more successful president than his detractors at the time indicated.
  25. Barking at the Moon again, DeepGreen???? Kind of like...just what would you do with it if you caught it???? Would you remember???? Just kidding.....and looking in the mirror!!!!
