  1. hickoryhouse...I am glad that both you and your Dad enjoyed the game. I looked for you guys but couldn't find anyone in that OU gear you mentioned. Glad to have you at the games, and VERY glad to see you are both coming back next saturday. GREAT! BTW..."hickoryhouse"...Hmmmm...does that have anything to do with that great local restaurant Denton used to have on University Drive (I think the location is now a Dave's Double Pizza joint) named the Hickory House? Greenjoe will remember the place I am certain as will some of the other "oldtimers" here...I recall a 79 cent chicken fried steak meal that was GREAT! Great game to watch, but tough on us UNT fans. Can't beliece it was over by about 8:45pm. Really fast paced, some excellent ball movement by bothy teams (ours was good when we were trying those bounce passes through the middle of the traffic..GOOD GRIEF). Someone has alreday said it, but UNT needs to show some discipline and leadership out there...sophomore slump at point guard anyone???? I think most of what's going on are "coachable" errors, so when does Johnny "coach" some discipline into this team? If he doesn't bye bye tourney seed and any post season chance. This is one we needed before Saturday night's tough road game. Oh, well, about a half of the conference games to go...anything can happen. And, I think it might very well go UNT's way in the second half...GO MEAN GREEN. Thanks for taking in the game at the Super Pit with your dad...even if he is an OU guy! Ugh. GO OSU!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN! On to Hot Springs!
  2. Yes, in those days we actually played teams we could beat in the eraly weeks! Like Alcorn St., ACU AND SMU! What a concept! But, yes the $$$$$ talks, and heavan knows UNT's program can use the $$$$. can't they all? I do hope for a return to games early in the season that can bring some possibility of wins. Getting beat up by the likes of OU and LSU just plain sucks and does not set the stage well for the rest of the season. I think the program is headed in that direction, but as everyone knows, schedules are set long in advance, so it will take some time. And, some added $$$$ support from alumni and friends and ticket sales, etc. to make it happen. New stadium will help a great deal to bring good and appropriate opponents to Denton. Can't wait. See you at the games! GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. Hickoryhouse...great to have you at tonights game and thanks for bringing your Dad along. That's two "new" rears in the seats for tonight's game. As to where to sit...you make the call. The "pressbox" side has the GREAT student section near the visitors' bench and the spirit band sits at the end near the visitors' bench...the "big wigs" and "high dollar" floor seats sit across the Super Pit facing the official's table and pressbox area. Really, you should have no problem grabing a seat in any section you wish. AND, that is a sad comment. It should be that tickets in, at least, the prime locations would be all sold out before the season even starts. Glad to have you at the game. The support is welcome and needed. NOW, if only the students would turn out in force...not just our great "regulars". GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT TROY!
  4. "I" didn't take the team anywhere...as I said, I was the manager, not the coach nor a player for that matter. I simply worked the finances, schedules, travel arrangements, tournaments and played "peace maker" between parents, coaches and league officials. You know, sort of like those who think Riley will play QB even if there is a btter player at the position on the roster. Someone has to help eveyone keep a level head when it comes to "playing time". Man, those parents can be tough and a bit unreasonable in their expectations at times, can't they Mr. Gio? BCS bowl in five years? Now that would be an "I told you so moment", but I don't this that "high" on the "food chain" of college football is in the offereing in five years for the Mean Green. I would, however, certaily "never say never". Can you spell Boise State? Can I? 97 and 03, I do love your spirit. Keep up that positive train of thought. Our mantra can now be "BCS Bowl in Five"!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. Don't you need a passport to get into the People's Republic of Austin these days?
  6. I, too, am most tired of all the negativity on this board, but I vow to stay here and fight it and run all the naysayers and negative folks off with my positive comments and posts! Take that! Eppy, don't go, why give the negative crowd the pleasure of running you off? Make them mad and stay!
  7. I truly hope that none of UNT's recruits are redaing this board. If they are, I hope they realize it is mostly "opinions" from some of the biggest supporters of Mean Green Athletics. While there is much disagreement on what has caused the "state of the current program", there is agreement that we support the efforts being made to "right the ship", and that UNT's recruits will have a big part to play in that turn around. I recall managing a club team (yes, soccer) that on which my son played. We were playing in a "lower" division, and most folks felt that we could necer climb out of it and up to Classic League I. Well, long story short...we certainly did and the day we won the right to advance to the top competitive league in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area was a great day for all who had worked so hard to make it happen. I wanted to look several of our biggest "naysayers" in the face and say "I told you so", but resisted the urge. But, I said it many times to myself. When (and it will happen) UNT gets back on the winning path it will be through the hard work of our recruits, returning palyers, the coaches and the administration...AND, to the loyalty and support of the Mean Green Nation who never gave up on the program. That will be a great day where it can be said (in private) I TOLD YOU SO! GO MEAN GREEN...and to Silver Eagle, hang in there. I have seen some great football played at UNT over my 40+ years of following this team! At 10 years, you can sconsider yourself a "rookie".
  8. There is no economic stimulus in President Obama's "stimulus package".
  9. I am "counting" seconds until you correct my spelling of "speed" in my previous post. Ten...nine...eight...seven...
  10. Traffic? 6:30PM? Come now. With a little spped and luck you could be at the Super Pit in plenty of time. Yep, I love the cyberspace reminders. Just another example of the good things happening at UNT these days. You obviously miised the "humor". That surprises me.
  11. Yep, try www.baseballatunt/fatchance/never/showme thefunding.edu It's to be found right there by the men's soccer information site at UNT. Very easy to find if you know where in your dreams to look.
  12. So, will you be attending or was it a waste of good cyberspace communicating?
  13. Someone use "smart" and "lawyer" in the same sentance?
  14. Stop jumping on Riley for goodness sake. What has he done to cause so much "negativity" with some folks on this board? Oh, I see, he turned down an offer from Texas to play for his Dad at UNT. Yep, that's a great reason to spew so much negativity on the kid. If I were the coach father of a D1 athlete I would love for him to play for me. I think it does say something about the type of father T Dodge is and the type of son Riley is that he would play here and not Texas to play for his Dad and to help build this program. Someday, some of the folks on this board might just know from first-hand experience what that kind of relationship is like...I truly hope they do. Whty be negative...Gio left for whatever reason he and his Dad have, so be it and don't let the door hit you in the rear on your way out. No hard feelings, and I wish you both well, but you do not want to be part of this program, so adios, see ya! Now, let's get behind the kids left. Riley is doing what he can to help. If he wins the QB battle outright he will start, if not, he will back-up and perhaps continue to play a little receiver. I look forward to hearing the comments when the next UNT QB leads this team to its first win in 2009. I am sure there will a lot of "jumping on the bandwagon". Come on...enough alreday with the anti-Riley garbage just because you might be a bit "unhappy" with the last two season's w/l record. As I recall, Riley had very liitle/nothing to do with either. As for UNT2012, and his closeness to the program...stop posting. It is a "mistake" of the higest proportions if you want to keep the job you described as a great one on "Bonnie Brae". Not a good decision at all if you are, in fact, "real". Good luck to you. Now shut up on the board and do your job and maybe, just maybe you will keep it. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Nobody cares because it is professional baseball. Sorry, just couldn't resist. Now, Donavan playing well in Germany...that's news!
  16. Once again, this is very good news. Hopefully, all of Dodge's efforts on the academic side in improving football player classroom performance will "return" lost football scholarships too, and UNT's academic prgress acroos the board will continue to improve...athlete and non-athlete alike.
  17. EXCELLENT...just excellent! In spite of the record, it appears some folks can see that UNT is headed in the right direction. man, the 2009 season is lokking better and better as far as potential improvement. "Potential" is always "potential" until turned into reality on the playing field, but can't help but like whjat is going on with this recruiting class. Congratulations to TD and his staff! And, to RV for providing facilities that make it possible to recruit these guys! GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. Nice to see some positive comments about TD and the program's direction. Since the end of the 2008 season some very positive things have been happening: 1) Some coaching changes; 2) New strength and conditioning coach; 3) Some unhappy players and parents left the program (yes, that is very good news for the locker room); 4) GPA's are on the rise (scholarships lost could 'return"); 5) New stadium gets the student approval and progress on the project begins to move forward; and 6) An excellent recruiting class is shaping up for 2009. There are certainly other positives going into 2009, but did not want to give the "doom and gloom" crowd too much to think about and try to find ways to "diss" as they surly might. Yes, it is a tough time to be a UNT football fan, but just look...the Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. Who would have believed that? Not me. It will be great when the winning begins for UNT. But, it does take time to rebuild a program. GO MEAN GREEN!
  19. I am looking forward to the QB competition, and glad to see Dodge will give everyone a shot. I, for one, have no problems with Riley being our QB if he wins the battle and starts. The kid has shown to be not only a winner on the field in HS but a solid citizen as well and pretty darn good in the classroom. I, too, wonder why some folks want to knock the kid and give Dodge grief about Riley. Sour apples perhaps, but come on let's see where this takes the program. Sure, he may get hurt, but so could anyone, sure he is a bit small by D1 standards these days, but we can all name college and pro QB's with the smae "knock" that went on to great and successfil careers. Just because you keep the same offensive philosophy from one year to the next is no reason to complain. The philosophy was not the major problem, as was earlier noted, execution had a big part to play in what happened last season. That, and being outmanned at several positions along the o and D lines. No fault of UNT's "guys", just a fact of D1 life. I think some folks are like those folks who boo'ed President Bush on inauguration day...they, for whatever reason, just have decided to dislike the guy and will find whatever reason they need to be negative. Winning so few games the last two years is tough on everyone, but mostly the players and the coaches. No one wants a repeat of that in 2009, and I, for one, think 2009 will shape up to be much better in the W/L area and in on-field and off-field performance. We have already seen the positive impact Coach Dodge and his staff have had on classroom performance, we have seen him bring in some new coaches for 2009...including a great new strength and conditioning coach...and we are seeing what is looking like another solid recruiting class. And, folks, Coach Dodge will himself have one more year of head coaching experience at the D1 level. All positives in my book. GO MEAN GREEN! RENEW/BUY SEASON TICKETS...Rears in the seats will help move this program forward.
  20. Excellent pick-up...Man, this class is looking better and better...Coach Dodge and his team are doing waht looks like a great job, and this class should be ranked pretty high in the SBC. Looks like some immediate help is on the way in some spots that needed some of that help. Nice...very nice. I continue to say and believe...good things are happening at UNT these days.
  21. It's time to move on. Stupid coach to score 100 on a team obviously so "out-manned", but to give the story this much play is somewhat "overkill" in its finest. The "winners" here will certainly be the losing team and its school. You can't pay any amount of money for this kind of press attention. And, the "winning" coach (the coach of the team that scored 100) was FIRED! Must be a real "thinking man" as he posted his comments about the game on a blog. How DUMB does one guy have to be? Maybe he really did want to get fired. It sure seems so. Now, let's all take a breath and give this a rest. I am going to take my own advice and stop talking and posting and reading about this event. Good night all on this one.
  22. And, this surprises how many people? The same can probably said for the vast majority of all sports on all college campuses. However, we must all remember, the sports program at many colleges and universities is "responsible" for keeping alums "connected" to their colleges and universities, in getting the name of the school "out there" for PR purposes, for creating a "buzz" about the school with potential students and for developing a great deal of donation $$$$ for the school, both on the athletic and academic side of things. Just maybe, the baseball folks would "come out of the woodwork" with their support dollars for UNT once the program was "up and operating". I pretty much have to think "not so much" if the trend continued for UNT, but in "staying positive" I would say there is certainly a chance. Believe it or not, I would definitely go see the baseball team play, and while sitting there through extended periods of non-action I can dream of the reinstatement of men's soccer. Hey, the US got it's first black president in my lifetime, maybe I will live long enough to see the return of men's soccer. There...had to work that in (along with at least one set of "...'s" just for Quoner). GO MEAN GREEN
  23. Let's hope the students turn out for this one, and I am not talking about just the great "regulars" that work very hard at "stiring it up" at most home games. This campus has way too many students to witness such low student turnout numbers. I love the group that comes, but, man, we need more. OK, we could use some more ticket buying community support too. There is no doubt about that, but a great and loud turnout for the Troy game could be VERY helpful. See you there. UNT will have to play a much "smarter" game this time around. If the team gets "lazy" and makes poor choices, Troy will "eat us up" and it could be a home loss when UNT can least afford it with the "bye" on the line. UNT should be ready to play, and it should be a great home WIN to see in person. BE THERE! GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. He's got one out of two headed in the right direction. Progress is being made on the academic side, now time for the athletic side to show the growth. It will in 2009. 97 and 03 I am "hurt", never have I had more than 10 typos in a post. Should we all start counting yours? I think not, better things to do with my time. Such as reading all the negative "stuff" on GMG.com and posting some "positives" to try to offset the "gloom and doom" folks. Too fun! You have to love it.
