Dodge, by far. Obama has surrounded himself by too many folks who have alreday "proven" their inability to lead this great nation of ours anywhere except to higher taxation and increased government intervention. The "Big Government" and "Tax and Spend" folks are definitely in office. So, Dodge has a much better chance of having a good 2009 than the Obama "team". I wish them both the very best of luck. Would like to see nothing more than the country pulling itself out of the economic downturn by mid-year, but, alas, I fear it will not be with the way this administration is showing its "true colors" early in its term. GO DODGE...GO MEAN GREEN!

Why should it be locked? That makes no sense at all. No one is "throwing rocks" at anyone personally here, and there is no name calling going on that I can tell. There is a call for "support" for "OUR" president, Mr. Obama and a call for support for "OUR" Coach, Mr. Dodge, using the same "logic"...so, why lock it up? Seems to me to be an interesting parallel to ponder, were you wanting to take it in another direction?

Bigger they will get! Agreed, UNT may not have Big XII size as yet, but I do thgink UNT will match up fine...size wise...in the SunBelt. And, that will be a good thing! GO MEAN GREEN!

Gee, Quoner...where is that sentiment from some of the folks here when they spew "negativity" all over Dodge. Let me see, seems to me he has admitted to some early mis-steps, is working his tail off (along with his coaches) to "fix" some early problems/mistakes made, he knows his feet are "to the fire", and needs our support...what about giving him some time? No, Obama has not had two "seasons" yet, but it could be said of Obama that he has had time in the Senate already to show something too...which he has not. Hmmmmmmmmm...throw Dodge under the bus with this logic, but give Obama support. Just seems sort of ironic to me...not pointing fingers at you Quoner regarding Dodge, but there are some folks out there........

OK, until the end I thought this was a great bit of discussion, and I pretty much still do. Lots of great points made, and it does look like we will see quite a bit of healthy competition going into the spring and then into the fall. I, too, believe this team could surprise some folks, even those on this board who expect "gloom and doom", but, as if often the case...someone has to start the "Dodge" stuff again. let's keep this one on track and talk about "possible starters" for next season. This is a great time of year for college football. Everyone is excited about the possibilites for a new start. let's keep it that way. GO MEAN GREEN.

Why not join both? I did. The Alumni Association is all of $25/year. A Lifetime membership is around $500 or so...maybe $525, not 100% sure, but it is a great deal...if you plan on living a few years. My wife and I are Life Members, and the cost was less than we would have paid year to year...we do plan on "outliving" the cost! Ha! Being a member of either does not keep one from joing both. Think about it. The Alumni Association provides a good bit of scholarship money for UNT students also. Glad you likie what they were trying to get going last season before the games...look for it to be a bit different, and even better, this next season. Hope to see you there! GO MEAN GREEN!

Gotta Love Those Democrats

Meangreendork. I guess you slept through economics class, right? BASIC econ...if you want to raise tax revenues you LOWER TAXES. Businesses do pay taxes...they even create jobs and pay people salaries who are in turn susposed to pay taxes on those wages. If you could every get over your "feelings and hatred for folks who make above min. wage", you would realize that there in no excuse for not paying taxes due. Just because someone else "got away with it" is no reason for you to skip out and it does not justify the evading of taxes. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with doing all you can to reduce your tax liability...either as a business or an individual...tax "avoidance" is perfectly legal...tax "evasion" is against the law. Wall Street Journal today has a great "ad" published by the Cato Institute about the Obama "non"-Stimulus package (really nothing more than a tax and spend program" of the highest magnitude) and signed by a great many economists at many of this nation's best universities refuting this tax and spend mentatlity"...check it out. You might even recognize a few of the folks who signed the "letter". Karl marx would be so very proud of this new administration in Washington these days...if you think not, take a look at what the Obama Administration is proposing with regard to the "death tax" here in the good ole US of A. Taking a page right out of Marx's book! Hang on folks...it is going to be an interesting ride for the next four years. -
A Meal To Die For
KRAM1 replied to KingDL1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
If I am ever anywhere near Chandler, Ariz. I am definitely going to this place. I like the guys spunk and spirit. Not even a Diet Coke or Lite Beer! Too funny. I am definitely THERE! -
It's pro baseball. Maybe they figure no one cares. Hey, they did send the Rangers to the Ft. Worth guys, right? Pretty funny. The did, however, cover the "A-Roid" non-news. Maybe they figure, no one is watching and no one cares. You guys didn't think I would miss this opportuity, did you? Just having fun.

When And Where Does Club Baseball Play?
KRAM1 replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Athletics
OK, tell us all where they play, when and what time, and I'll even try to make it to a game or two. College baseball is one ton more fun to watch than the pros. I know, some of you have now fainted dead away. GO MEAN GREEN! -
Way to go George. Nice job in the classroom! That is, of course, why all the UNT palyers are in college in the first place...to get an education. I really enjoy watching George play and I love to "shout out" his name at the games. This kid is a rebounding wizzard! You go George.

Yep, check those glasses Tasty. There was NO mass exit at halftime. I too was there, and did not witness any mass exit. It seems to happen each time there is a doubleheader...some of the folks come for the girls game (like some folks show up later only for the men's game) and will watch a bit of the men's game (half or so) and then leave. Perhaps they are going to meet their daughter, friend, etc. who plays on the women's team, or perhaps, like some other UNT fans, they are fans of the girls' game and not the men's. Whatever, there was no mass exit. Nice crowd, all things considered. Yes, it got a bit sloppy at the end, and JJ will address that, but it was great to see UNT lead wire to wire. UL-L NEVER had the laed or even a tie after the initial tip-off. Nice. I have been waiting for UNT to "come alive" like this and keep the pressure on for a full game. I have no problem with JJ playing the reserves as much as he did. If the score had gotten anywhere close at the end, the starters would be back in the game. Game was NEVER in doubt during the last 10-15 min. I find it simply amazing that some folks can find things in this win to complain about. This just proves that some folks are "glass half-empty" folks and always will be. They just are not happy unless they have something to complain about. Sad, but their choice. Just keep buying tickets and supporting the Mean Green. If you want to be "grumpy" all the time, go for it.

It will be just that much sweeter when the wins come. And, they will. Starting in 2009 too.

Yep, UNT could do itself a big favor by doing a bit of marketing NOW! It amazes me how little UNT does around the community to try to "ramp it up". I know that it can be like "hitting yourself in the head with a hammer", and pretty soon you just want to give up. But, you can't! You just keep going. It doesn't cost much to do a pep rally on the square, to post info about the spring game on the UNT stadium message board, to tie a softball, lacrosse, etc., etc. game into the spring game, to put together a great student event the day of the spring game, to invite all youth players to the game "free" if they wear their football jerseys, to advertise the spring game at home basketball games...all of this, of course, with the materials available to buy season tickets. Folks, just ask Jim Hobdy about his time trying to get UNT Athletics to actually move into the 20th century (he was there during the 20th century) with their marketing and promotions. It can be a daunting task. Just look what happens on this board when they do try something? They get "beat up" because they didn't do it like "some folks" here think they should. Instead of congratulating them on the effort and "want to", they get "beat up". How many times do you have to do that before you just say, enough? No, it is not the fault of folks on this board, it belongs in the athletic dept., but it is interesting to me just how many people want to always complain (and for ever and always mention 3-21). You know, you can decide to be part of the sloution or you can continue to "live in the past", complain and wonder why things never "come up to your standards". Ask yourself, when was the last time I complimented someone in the athletic dept. for trying to make things better, when is the last time you "invited" someone to go to a game with you, when is the last time you put a group of students together to go to a game, when is the last time you set up a faculty/staff "event" at a game, when is the last time you asked your business to buy season tickets for client/staff use???? The lsit goes on and on...you can be part of the solution or you can stand back, complain, leave it to everyone else and just continue to be unhappy. By the way, I did see a nice sized group of faculty (retired faculty group) at a recent UNT basketball game. That wasgreat as I knew some of the retired faculty in attendance and got to say "hello". Way cool. UNT needs more of this. By the way, are you a member of the UNT Alumni Association? No, you do not have to be a graduate to join the Alumni Association. That's one way to help too. If you have not checked out what's happening with that group you are "way behind the times". I haer they are looking to improve on the effort they made last year at the football games to make it an evn nice Alumni activity during tailgating. Also, have you met and spent any time at all with our new Mean Green Club director? If not, you are missing out...you should meet John (yes, take it upon yourself to do so if you need to do so), he is a great guy and is working hard to see that the Mean green Club also moves forward and becomes bigger and better. Lot's going on...you might want to really take a look. GO MEAN GREEN.

Like Dozer, I would not mind a "all Texas" division in an expanded SunBelt. I think UNT needs some rival games with schools close enough to drive to without much of a challenge and some folks fans can get excited about playing close to home. In-state rival games are great for building a fan base and stiring up things on both campuses as game day nears. Another plus is that the opposing team can bring fans to the games in Denton as well...all going to help boost attendance and bring fans out. All good in my way of thinking. One reason folks think UNT does not "draw well" at home is that there are very very few fans from the opposing teams coming to sdenton for the games. The last time UNT played SMU in Dallas, the UNT fans made up at least 40% of the people in attendance. As you might recall...even Navy (not too close to Denton by the way) brought some opposing fans out....It would definitely be nice to see oUNT attenance figures rise from opposition fans in the seats as well as more UNT student, faculty, staff, townies, Alums and fans!!!! I wonder what the "average opponent" attendance is in the Belt as compared to other D1 conferences????? My guess, not so good! GO MEAN GREEN.

Gee, I'm shocked and dismayed! This is so very unlike professional athletes. And, there I thought every professional athlete was a shining example of sportsmanship and fair play. My "bubble is broken" due to this shocking revelation. The next thing you know they will say Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, and even, gasp should I say it, Mark McGuire were "cheating through the miracle of drugs"! What is the world coming to these days. I AM SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF! Hey, it's professional boreball...why is this news? Just another day in professional baseball...well, really all professional sports...yes, I am more than sure...even professional soccer, "the beautiful game". Dear me........

I'll be there with the bride and YEP...UNT can win this thing. I hope they play a FULL game this time. Would be nice to get ahead and stay that way. GO MEAN GREEN...see you at the Super Pit this evening...come on students...it's a great night to watch the Mean Green win! Be There!

It took less than one month in office for the whole "Obama" administration to be put on the defense. The man is an empty suit, and it is becomming more clear to everyone each day. Where is his "leadership" in all this? The man has "no clue" how to lead, and this is just the start of four years of social engineering and spend, spend, spend policies. Remember how well all those "spend our way out of the depression" government programs under FDR worked? Well, you have that same "stinking thinking" comeing out of the White House today. Wow, even a fractured and "defeated" Republican Party has been able in a record short time to put this administration on the defensive. I would have never thought this would have happened so fast. Reid has said he had 60 votes to at least move the package to closure some 48 hours ago. If he, indeed, did have the 60 votes...which he obviously does not...why is the debate still "on" in DC? Amazing turn of events, simply amazing.

Phelps Suspended

Professional soccer players are no more exempt from my disdain for the use of illegal drugs or illegal activities than anyone else. To suggest otherwise is just plain nuts! -
Gotta Love Those Democrats
KRAM1 replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Now we know why all the Democrats can ever come up with is to raise taxes. Heck, they don't pay taxes, so why not raise them on everyone else? AMAZING, simply amazing! And, these folks want to run the country????? How about some coursework in economics and finance???? Check out today's congress...I don't think there is an economist in the group. Maybe, but I can't think of one. Where is UNT's own Dick Armey when you need him? -
Phelps Suspended
KRAM1 replied to UNTflyer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
There will always be folks who want to "excuse" illegal behavior or do the "well other people have done it too" dance as if that was some sort of legit "excuse". Grow up people...there are consequences for your actions. Phelps got caught. So, take what comes with that and move on. Stop making excuses for him. You may recall that this is the "second time" he has "asked" for people to forgive his "youthful" mistakes...Phelps is a great swimmer. He has made a couple of "mistakes" through his own stupid decisions, and he has and is paying the price. So be it. I would have thought this guy was a bit too smart to make this type of mistake TWICE. But, I guess not. Stop trying to justify illegal behavior. If you don't agree with the drug laws, work to get them changed. As long as this stuff is illegal, don't touch it. If you do, and you get caught, pay the price! Good Grief. -
Yep, and if Riley had gone to Texas, the same folks on this board complaining about Riley and/or the fact that is Dad is the head coach would be blowing the head coach up for not getting his son to play for UNT. Seems with some folks here, neither TD nor Riley can do anything (anything at all) to please them. I guess some folks just need something to complain about or they aren't happy. Perhaps these folks are the "glass is half empty" folks. Oh, well...so it goes. GO MEAN GREEN!

Men's program???? Gee, someone else is singing my song. BRING BACK MEN'S SOCCER AT UNT! Wow, that felt good!
-
Why does it seem that so many on this board have some sort of "thing" against Riley? Good gosh, the kid has done NOTHING to deserve your negative comments, and has shown himself to be a very good HS QB with excellent potential at the college level. Sort of like every recruit that UNT picks up on signing day this week. Yes, some have proven themselves at the Juco level too. Is it some sort of problem with folks that we have a very highly rated QB on the team looking to compete for the starting job in the spring, or is it that his Dad happens to be the head coach? WHO CARES? The season will unfold as it does, and the fans will see some improved play this season. The QB position may or may not be one of the "improved" positions as that remains to be seen, but NO ONE knows at this point. I think our coaching staff would have a pretty darn good idea after spring and fall practices who they will start. Baine, Tune, Riley, etc....my very best wishes to all the UNT QB's. May all the QB's have great practices and may they all stay healthy. I am thankful to have them all at UNT and will cheer for whichever one is playing at the time. GO MEAN GREEN....

So, id he is so good wht did Auburn let him get away? Oh, because he thought it was an "upgrade" to go to the Sunbelt???? I see.
