  1. Who else? Will we be the only two there? ha! Come on, let's get everyone out for the game Thursday. OK, I have to ask this question of Flyer...Flyer, do you "work" the games...doing a play by play? Just wondering. I may be behind the times here, but that would not be a surprise to anyone who knows me.
  2. So, if all that "fighting" in hockey is so "real", then why do the fights go to all but ZERO during the playoffs? Seems "staged" to me in the regular season to keep fan interest up. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Me thinks the hockey guys know how to "fire up a crowd" with a little staged fighting. And, how to give the team additional rest during the "fight". Do you think they KNOW it's all for "show", and just play hockey during the playoffs when the games actually mean something? Just wondering. I like hockey, it's OK and, yes, the players are pretty well conditioned. But, surley a well conditioned athlete can skate for longer than 3 min. at a time...even full speed. But, in the games I have gone to this season at AA Arena, the players are definitely not going full speed their full shifts. There is plenty of "rest" during a shift...and gliding along on the skates. Heck, we can all rollerblade for three min. without a break, can't we???? And, some of us are "older" than others on this board. Can't understand why folks give a "pass" to these guys when they score 1 or 2 goals in a game yet jump all over scooer for being low scoring. Plus these guys get how many breaks after periods during the game. How boring is watching that "ice cleaning" multiple times a game? Ugh. Thanks goodness for the "Ice Girls" or you could just bring your balnket and pillow and take a nap between periods. Now, all that being said, I appreciate the game of hockey. It is fun to watch IN PERSON...I hate it on TV....and the guys that play hockey are, for the most part, good citizens and do a lot in their respective communities. And, do seem to try to treat fans well. So, props to them for that, and, in no way did I mean to indicate anything about their "toughness". Just seems strange that these guys can't stay on the ice longer than about 3 min. at a time when soccer players go 45 min. at a time...then a short half and 45 min. more. I dare say, they are running more min. during a game than hockey players are skating. Now, there's a study for some sports guy. This is a fun debate, but will never come to any "conclusion". People like the sports they do for the reasons they do, and nothing is going to change that one way or the other. It's a good thing, too. It's fun to have choices and fun to "go back and forth" about ones favorite sport. Heck, some folks like NASCAR...and all those guys can do is turn left! Go figure why the popularity of that event? The drivers are, however, the most fan=friendly in any professional sport. Give them their due for that!
  3. Speaking of great QB's...Brett favre has informed the NY Jets that he plans to retire. Man, the NFL could use more guys like Favre. he probably played one year too many, but what a great one he was and what great memories folks will have of watching him play. I am glad he has retired, and hope he stays that way. He deserves to be remembered for the great years he had as a Packer and not as a QB, declining in ability, that just doesn't know when to "hang 'em up". Congrats on a great career, Brett Favre, and best wishes for the next chapter in your life.
  4. So, forevereagle, you watch a lot of soccer do you? Or, are you just another "parrot" for the typical stereotyping remarks? I do not deny the "acting" that takes place in some games. It is akin to the acting that goes on in all sports. Do not try to tell me that punters do not "act", basketball players do not "fall to the ground" in great acts in attempts to get "charging" called, that baseball players do not "act" at home plate to draw ump calls, that American football players do not "act" out injuries to get flags thrown or to waste time. Now, to be fair, some of these "soccer guys"...more often than not the latin or Italian players...do "push" the limits of even "bad acting", but let's be claer, they cannot actually bring it to a fight (as hockey) because they will immediately get tossed with a red card and have to sit out the next game. If the ref is doing his job, he will "yellow card" the "acting player". If done often enough and early enough the acting will stop. Unlike what goes on in hockey where most of the "fights" are nothing more than a grab and shove match. I suspect, more acting than real in most cases. Besides, hockey playes get to rest after every 1 or 2 minutes on the ice. What's up with that? Panty-wastes?????
  5. By the way, Flyer...Video is too funny! Priceless...but it cut off after a short while. I need to find the whole clip and send it to a few of my "non-beliver" friends. Nice post!
  6. Actually, it's "football". Seems only the USA likes to call it soccer....well, maybe Canda too, but that doesn't count. And, just to be clear...games starts at 6PM (CST)...it is not bbaseball, so it will be over long befiore 9:30PM. It is ends in a tie, the US will have under-performed to a great extent. US should win this one. Field conditions could make it "easier" on the Mexicans to play for a tie, but, hopefully, the US will jump out to a quick lead so that Mexico will have to play to score and not just sit back and defend and hope for a draw. A draw would help Mexico, but not do much for the US. These games often have a bit of "hockey" in them as "pushing and shoving" and all that comes with that seems to "break out" when the US plays Mexico. Can't wait. About time some "real football" was on TV around here! USA-USA-USA!!!!!!
  7. Sheldon Williams is his brother...at least that's what the article says and what I understood from my time watching him play the last few years.
  8. OK, can we get a crowd out for this Thursday's game against UNO? My bride and I will be there. Who else is planning on attending? If you are a student...PLEASE...PLEASE bring some student friends with you (who usually do not attend). They will get in FREE so "no economic pain" is involved. It's a "week night", so no missing that big Saturday date in Dallas/Ft. Worth, etc. It will be over in plenty of time to study for any exam that might be on the agenda for Friday, etc., etc. Can we make this a "no excuses" game and get out and watch the Mean Green beat UNO? Now, season ticket holders...BE THERE, or PLEASE get your tickets into the hands of someone who will be able to attend. NO EMPTY "season ticket" seats for this one, OK? And, while you are at it, invite some friends along. You just never know when the "basketball bug" might bite them and they become season ticket holders. Question to the students out there in GMG.Com-land. Are these games publicized anywhere around campus? Is there any organized effort at all to get a student turnout? The Pit Crew is great, and it is time and time again the same students who make up our wonderful Pit Crew at home games. They could use some help in making noise and in having a good time. I LOVE the Pit Crew...but they need new members. JOIN! Only three home games left. Thursday night and then next Thursday and Saturday. UNT needs these wins at home. WE can all help them get the W's by turning out and supporting the team. Crowd noise does make a difference. When the players see a "larger than normal" crowd they really feel good and it shows in their play. Crowds have been fairly decent the last couple of home games, but WE CAN DO MORE!!!! It is a bargain and tons of fun to watch. Heck the Dance Team, Cheerleaders, Pep Band, Scrappy and the guys that sweep the floor at half-time are worth the price of admission by themselves. SEE you at the game THURSDAY at 7PM. WHO IS GOING TO BE AT THE GAME?????
  9. very nice article. I hope he makes a career out of coaching as he will be a great influence on his teams. The guy played hard for UNT every time out, and it's probably a bit "tough" being the "brother" of Sheldon, etc. when basketball is so much a pert of your life. Good kid, and I hope he finds the successes in coaching that he did as a player at UNT. Qunicy represents UNT very well. NIce that the Daily did this article on him...please do more like this on current and former UNT athletes.
  10. Don't know if Aikman could be considered the "best quarterback of all time" or not, but there is no denying that he is one of the best qb's of all time. And...wait for it...a good guy too! This is something he had promised his mother when he left UCLA for the pros. The guy keeps his promise after 20 years. Pretty cool. He did say how proud he was of his sister for getting her degree, and he considers this achievement right up there with winning the Super Bowl. Said it was tough to talk to his kids and others about his lack of a degree. Man, how I wish other pros would take a page out of Aikman's book on how to act. Did you see where he just bought another home in Highland Park. Good for him. Nice story! Too bad the "bad guys" get so much press.
  11. OK, I dare anyone to say anything negative about this! Be still my heart! Now, that, my friends, is real Valentine's Day candy! WOW! Nice, so very nice. I believe she is from Israel, correct?
  12. OK, for all you lovers of the "Beautiful Game" out there, remember tonight at 6:00 PM on ESPN2 (and Ch. 23-Dallas area) the USA palys Mexico in Columbus, Ohio in the first world cup qualifier in the final round. The US is a big favorite as it is being played in Columbus, but you just never know about these things. It should be interesting to see how Mexico handles the weather and the fact that they haven't won in Columbus. In fact the US is 9-2-2 in their last thirteen games against Mexico. And, yes, for some of you more "challenged folks, ie; baseball guys, we are talking about soccer here! USA-USA-USA-USA! Tune in and watch the US win tonight!
  13. I have that same flag flying at my house. I took it in yesterday due to the rain, but it will be back out Wednesday after the rain this evening passes us by again. GO MEAN GREEN. JUST GREAT to see this. As I have said several times, there is some positive "stuff" happening surrounding the UNT program in Denton and the DFW Metroplex these days. It's great to see this. keep it flying. I'll go there to eat with the bride and tell them I came because of the flag and their support of UNT. Been there before...it's good...but this makes it even better. I hope everyone will try to support the businesses that in turn support the MEAN GREEN! If you do...tell them why you are patronizing their establishment. It will do wonders the next time they think about supporting UNT. GO MEAN GREEN. Thanks for posting this!!!!! GREAT to see!
  14. Gee, sorry about the name spelling....and someone throws Iceland into the mix! Good Golly Miss Molly!
  15. http://www.silverbearcafe.com/private/12.08/goodnewa.html OK, I think I got it right this time...try the link above....pretty good!
  16. Green Bat...do you live on 555 Negative Street? Man, always so negative. You don't like Dodge, you don't like JJ and you seem to always predict doom and gloom for UNT athletics. What's up? I know you are a MEAN GREEN guy and that UNT is "your school", but just wonder why you always see lemons and never lemonade? I know I am pretty much the opposite and have been accused more than once of drinking lots of Green Koolaid. I guess if UNT gets that baseball team you will see some positives, right? But, you will definitely not like the coach, right?
  17. All the best to Collin. This does not look good, but I am hopeful that he will be able to heal and play next season. He is still "young", and you never know...but, at this point just doesn't look good. Tough injury and he has had "challenges" getting back on the court. Glad to see him play last Saturday night...might have been "it" for awhile. But, I hope and pray that he does get back on the court. Good kid, good student...good luck and "hope to see you next season". Thanks for being part of the MEAN GREEN NATION. Stay GREEN! Stay at UNT and let's see you again next season.....

    33,366

Good enrollemnt numbers, but let me see if I have this correct...UNT has 33,366 spring enrollees and had over 34,000 in the fall...and can't get more than a few hundred students to attend football and basketball games? Come on folks...get your rears in the seats! GO MEAN GREEN!
  19. OK, sorry...cannot get the link to post properly....MY BAD! If you tried you probably got a link to Charter...it is not the correct link. Oh, well, it was a bit long anyway...focused on how the gov't tinks that you can spend your way out of a problem that you got into by spending too much in the first place. Pretty funny! But, that's "your government at work". Never will so many owe so much (taxes) to so few!
  20. If you have not seen this clip from the ex-Senator Thompson it is worth viewing. It is a bit long (7 min. or so) and was recorded in december of 2008, but it is still very worthwhile to view if you have not done so. Take a look if you have time. http://ssomail.charter.net/do/redirect?url...2Fgoodnewa.html
  21. 1) Supply side economics does well work at the government level and 2) The government public works policies before WWII that you cite as a great example of how to get out of an economic downturn was in fact, a reason for the downturn. Tax cuts spur economic growth and will indeed lead to more employemnt, higher wages and more business and consumer spending. Government is the problem...not the answer. Government regulations, from perhaps well meaning folks, have shown time and time again to cramp business expansion and personal spending. Forevereagle...spoken like a true Kayensian and big governement macro guy! Now, all that being said...perhaps there is sroom for some "combination" of the two sides where government is not trying to "spend its way" to a depression once again, and where some spending can get to the right folks to "olil" the machinery until decent tax cuts can take effect. I would bet that if a few of us got together, we could actually come up with a decnt proposals that both republicans and democrats could support. And, without "calling anyone out", and witout "paying everyone under the sun" off for their political support. BTW...GREAT AD by Wells fargo in today's Wall Street Journal talking about all the "lavish truips corporations are taking". How would you like to be employed by a resort hotel, private jet manufacturing company, high end small retail business, etc. these days with all the negative press coming from Obama's administration? Think you might feel a bit insecure about your job too? The law od unexpected consequences at work here at its finest. Does anyone else recall the "luxury tax" imposed by the Carter Administration back in the 70's????? Well, it cased large layoffs and business closings in many areas such as private boats, private planes, jewelry and caused a large reduction in vacation spending and on and on. Gee, let's tax the rich...no one will care, right? WRONG...lots of workers out on the street. Yep, raising taxes...always a great idea that is "doomed to fail" each and every time. That is just one of countless examples. But, folks who like "tax and spend" economics can never seem to even look at the "other side" even in the face of facts and example after example. It seems it is just too easy to think with the heart and not the brain in these issues. Yep, that "garden of eden" created by Karl marx worked real well, didn't it? Hmmmmmmmmm. Seems that big government idea hit a bit of a snag somwhere along the line.
  22. But, they pay taxes and that reduces the amount of money the heirs can spend. Point is, taxes reduce spending, savings, investments, etc. both on the consumer and the business side of the equation. It's elementary, my dear Watson......
  23. Quoner...if it were only in me to correct your posting errors. Oh, the bait is out there, but, no I will not take the hook!
  24. Quit calling it a STIMULUS PACKAGE...it is a "TAX AND SPEND" package plain and simple. As soon as people realize that it is in NO WAY a stimulus package the better off they will be and the worse that this package of PORK will look to everyone. If those "two ladies from Maine" and Mr. Spector would stop being so "wishy-washy" this thing may never see the light of day in the Senate. But, alas, some form of this BACON BILL will get passed. Too bad for the country and the American people. Always interesting how some folks think you can "spend your way" out of an economic crisis. Seems FDR (and Hoover to some extent) felt the same way, and their little "spening" programs sent this nation into the deepest depression in history and 25% unemployment (and that 25% is at a time when most wives did not work...think about that a little in today's terms).
  25. Now I see where you are coming from. With the one class in Econ you took being Macro, you missed out on all the supply side and micro-stuff. I guess you are a big Kaynes guy, right? Your point about a new tax code is RIGHT ON, however. How about a flat tax (Dick Armey) or a "national sales tax" (Steve Forbes) option? Either would basicly put the IRS out of business from a collection side, do away with careers made out of ways the "get around" the tax code, and would stop penalizing people who actually work for a living. And, while we are at it; 1) Do away completely with the "Death Tax"; 2) Do away with the Alternative Minimum Tax; 3) Eliminate the "earned income credit" provision; 4) Eliminate all taxes on savings (the $$$ has already been taxed when originally earned unless in an IRA or 401k, 403B, etc.); 5) Eliminate capital gains taxes; and 6) set the maximum individual tax rate at 15%. That, my friends would definitely spur new spending from the consumer side. As for businesses: 1) Encourage through favorable tax handling the employment of US citizens based in the US; 2) Reduce the double taxation that now takes place on foreign earnings; 3) Provide tax incentives for capital investments; 4) Reduce the corporate tax rate to a maximum of 20%; 5) Provide tax incentives to Corporations for R&D programs (new products, etc.); 6) Provide tax incentives for the development of nuclear power and other alternative sources of power, and 7) Etc., etc. I could go on and on about this, but you get the drift.
