  1. Did you write that standing up Emmitt??????
  2. There will always be those that find fault with any idea. You must simply ignore them as you know they will always be negative. Many people look for ways not to help or to "dis" those that do, and will manufacture any excuse possible to keep from helping with their talent or their dollars. If you don't believe me just ask some of the people who complain about things around campus to step up and volunteer. You will be hard presswed to keep from laughing when you hear all the excuses. UNT has a poor record when it comes to alumni giving, but there are efforts about to help solve that problem and to get more alumni re-introduced to "their university". Just today in the Wall Street Journal there is a FULL PAGE Ad describing a free UNT conference on immigration. Now, when was the last time you ever saw UNT in the Wall Street Journal in an ad...especially a full page ad. Way cool. I am sure some will find fault with the cost of the ad, the size of the ad or even the point of the ad. From what I see here on gmg.com that is certainly to be expected, but it is an indication that UNT is moving forward in improving its brand. A good move for sure and one that will bring added $$$ support to the university. Good for UNT. Go Mean Green. There will be a stadium development funding program...count on it...when it comes out, I will donate what I can. I hope others will do the same. Do not be discouraged by those negative folks who will most certainly find something they do not like in how it is handled. Some folks just live to complain...if you gave them a free $100 bill, they would complain that it should have been $200 or that the bill was wrinkled. It just goes with the territory.
  3. So, you are saying that chili without beans NEVER causes gas????? Man, eat some chili sometime, you might find out. Did you miss the attempt at humor, or have you never heard of Beano?
  4. I don't think we are discussing the overall merits of the spread offense. It has shown to be an exciting offense and will probably hang around about as long as the wishbone did until all the defenses figure it out. Then a new offense will emerge...just like it seems to always happen. What some of us are saying is...no problem with the spread, but is there not some times when it might be beneficial to take a snap from under center? I think so. GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. What type of effort is being made to make certain the folks involved in the Chili cook-off come to the games Staurday evening? Will folks entering get "free admission" to the games? What about the Talons? Will they be out IN FORCE for the games? I sure hope so...and bring frineds too. Thanks for the spirit Talons...more folks on campus need some of your spirit! BTW...are the Talons supplying the BEANO for this event or is it BYOBeno? GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. With it being Senior Night, with the team we are playing and with it being Youth basketball Night can we hope to have a great crowd????? I sure hope so. Does anyone know if there is any "movement"...organized movement..on campus with the student organizations to get out and support the seniors and the team? Would seem to me that this would be a great time for the student govt assoc., the frats and soro'ts, the residence halls folks, etc., etc. to be working to get a good turnout. Sure hope so....see you there! GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. This idea winever asee the "light of day" in any real sense. man, don't the Obama folks have more to worry about that folks over 60 with firearms? The last few articles I saw in the paper regarding "gun incidents" did not include folks 60 years of age or over! Good Grief! Just another indication of how this administration thinks...or doesn't think at all perhaps. GOOD GRIEF!
  8. Folks...do you caoch a youth basketball team or does your son/daughter play youth basketball? If so, this Saturday night is YOUTH BASKETBALL night at both the men's and women's home games. All youth basketball players who show up in their youth basketball jersey will get FREE ADMISSION to either or both games Saturday night. Adult tickets start at about $4 I believe. It's a GREAT DEAL! When I coached 5th-6th grade basketball for Argyle in a youth league years ago this was a great team event and the kids loved it! It's a fun evening, builds team spirit and just makes a great evening to spend with your kid and his/her team...AND, it adds rears to the seats for the games. You can attend one or both.... Come on...think about it. If your team doesn't want to do it, bring your own kid...free admission for the player in jersey! PLEASE get the word out about this...some folks may really want to give this a try as a fun Saturday evening. I know from experience that it is fun...get a group of kids and some parents and come on the the Super Pit saturday night. While you are at it, you can come to Thursday's game too...it's just not youth basketball night! Still...way worth the price of admission. Men's game starts at 7PM...no ladies game Thurday evening (they are playing Wednesday...at home). Pick one...be there...or pick both...even better! Come out and support the MEAN GREEN as they march toward the post-season tournament...a BIG and LOUD home crowd ALWAYS HELPS! See you there. GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. I think Coach Dodge should definitely consider adding some plays "under center"...not for the development of the QB so much, but to increase chances of winning. Third and goal from the 1 and you are in the spread...Hmmmmmm...many other opportunities to go "under center" for a play or too...heck even the "mad pirate" out in Lubbock has plays in his offense that start "under center". I would love to see that option added to the offensive package this season. Can't hurt the w/l record, could it? BTW...glad to hear from you Rick! GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. If our barinpower were dynamite, could we even blow our nose?????
  11. And, this bit of "who cares" information bothers you why? Lifer...like she was going to marry one of us?????
  12. UNT is playing great at the moment, and is probably pretty confident that they can win out. That confidence helps and a win Thursday could set up a nice end of season run. I sure feel better now than I did 3-4 weeks ago about the chances UNT has for post-season play. Is another 20 win season possible...SURE IS...but, must finish very strong. CAN DO! GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. The band is great and always WINS half-time. But, agree...it could spice it up a bit more. The last couple of years has been pretty predictable. I think UNT is lucky to have such a great band. These students work extremely hard...ever watched some of their summer workouts? GO BAND! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  14. How far out are basketball schedules set? Can a coach actually "work" the schedule based on the "youth" or "experience" of their teams? Just wondering. Any Sunbelt team will have to win the tournament to get into the NCAA's and will probably be no better than a 14 or 15 seed no matter what their schedule was like. I think the entire conference is going to have to "get better" to get better seeds. The "big time" schools play weak out of conference schedules too, but then conference is a challenge and makes up for the weak out of conference it seems to me. But, just like the Sunbelt in football...not much respect nation-wide as a conference. I agree, UNT should play as tough a non-conference schedule as is appropriate, but I don't think UNT should schedule it at the "expense of the whole season". Get the "Belt teams "up" as a conference and this will be a non-issue...until UNT can get into a better conference...I hope...I hope. Well, a fella can dream, can't he. I hope everyone turns out for our last two home games this Thursday and Saturday...Ladies play Wednesday and there is a double=header Saturday. Good week for UNT basketball...let's fill the house!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Stupid is as stupid does...pretty darn funny. GREAT move by the homeowner...only problem is that he didn't shhot them in their respective asses before he took their van. LOL!!!!
  16. Let's play in a "safeway parking lot" and settle it!
  17. OK, this was sent to me...thought it was "worthy" of review here on gmg.com...it is pretty funny...would be even more so if it were not so true! The government today announced that it is naming the CONDOM as the official mascot of the Stimulus package because it accurately reflects the current administration's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed....it just doesn't get more accurate than that!!! It's funny...it's a joke...don't get too carried away with the indignation! Lighten up a bit...it willy good sense of humor to get through all this!
  18. Vice article...great to see the "press" for the ladies side! GO MEAN GREEN!
  19. Army...hand's down. The atmosphere at Fouts will be great and the stand swill be full. I hope Army brings their Corps of Cadets...at least as many as Navy had at Fouts. I hope the waether is good, so the tailgating will be big and lively too...it was fun going to the Navy tailgate area and talking to those folks before the game. Very nice...great atmosphere. Class act, Navy...I am sure Army will be the same. GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. As I recall Reagan took the top tax bracket to 25% with most folks paying in the 15-20% range or lower. Today, there may be a 35% top bracket, but it hits many more people with incomes now considered in the middle and upper middle ranges...certainly not just the rich...you earn (joint income in $100K+ range between both husband and wife and you have a good chance of being hit with either the AMT or the top tax bracket on at least part of your income in many caes...depending, of course, on where your income is generated). If you think deficit spending was big under Reagan, hold on to your rear end and watch what happens under Mr. Obama's plan. Government control, government spending and government telling private companies what their executives can earn is called socialism. It's been tried...IT HAS FAILED! It will again. I truly wish Mr. Obama luck. He is staking the economic well being of our children and grandchildren on this massive government spending plan...with more to come, and his presidency will be judged by this plan which was "rammed" through Congress in just the first month of his administration. I hope and pray it works, but have very little confidence that it will...even his administration is now saying that the job creation will not see results until the end of 2010!!!! GREAT PLAN! But, one bit of perspective here for all of us...which ever "side" you are on...the country survived FDR, it survived, Carter, it survived Clinton, it survived both Bushe presidencies, it survived JFK and Reagan...it will survive Obama too as it is the greatest nation on God's Green Earth. So, we can all sit back and debate the merits of this plan and argue one side or the other, but let's remember...we are all in this together and if there is something each of us can do...DO IT! If you own a company...hire someone if at all possible, keep people employed, if you can start a company, save for the future but don't stop all spending. If you are looking for a home, this is a great time to be a buyer, car loans are out there and the rates are great...support your local small business owners, now is the time they really need out support. Don't stop donating to your favorite charity or church...if you have to cut back...do it...but try to keep some level going...we can all do something to help pull the country out of this recession...IT IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT TO FUND YOUR EVEY NEED.... So, remeber...buy season tickets and support the Mean Green with your attendance and your dollars!!!! Go Mean Green...just had to add this part!
  21. UNT will spend whatever it needs to spend to get the stadium built. End of discussion. It will get built and it will be GREAT! GO MEAN GREEN.
  22. I hope the team is peaking just at the right time for the post-season run. Sure looks like it. This win assures at least a .500 season...one more win and the string of winning seasons continues. I think there will be no problem in ending with a winning record...let's hope the end comes in the NCAA tournament after a few tournament wins. That IS NOT BEING NEGATIVE. I just don't think we have the firepower to overcome North carolina in a showdown for the NCAA Tournament Championship! GO MEAN GREEN! Nice win...VERY NICE WIN...way to go Josh. Great to see you "break out" of your sophomore slump a bit! Keep it going.
  23. Beacuse he is a rebounding machine and I just love yelling out O-Du-Fu-Wa!!!!!!!!! Besides he's a great student in the classroom too...love the guy! GO MEAN GREEN.
  24. There is NOTHING in the "stimulus" ie SPENDING PLAN that will work to bring us out of the recession. Too little "good", too much pork (even though Mr. Obama promised no earmarks...first broken promise of many to come...ie; FutureGen) and even his "tax cuts" are not tax cuts...they are tax credits. Big difference. I wish this program well, but I do think it is doomed to fail. President Reagan is turning over in his grave as we speak. Reagan inherited a much worse economy...remember mortgae rates at 17%? Unemployment rates higher than today, inflation at over 7% with today's inflation rate at .1%...that .1% not even 1%. Reagan took tax rates doen from a high bracket of about 70%, he actually STIMULATED the economy. IT WORKED...The US came out of the recession and entered a 25 year period of grpwth and expansion. Obama is doing exactly the opposite. Why not do something that worked? Anyway, good luck to the "tax and spend folks", we all need luck here because there is nothing in his bill that has ever proven to work. I dobt that most of the fplks who voted for the badly flawed bill even read the thing! It's over 1000 pages long and was passed with "lightening quick" speed. Do you really think they read the darn thing? I don't...if they read it they would have certainly voted NO! Good Grief.
  25. Nice start...GO Ladies...I do think the team is improved over last season. Should be fun to watch. GO MEAN GREEN!
