Obama Vs Reagan
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Quoner...agreed...I was just having a little fun with you. I thought you would enjoy the "idea" that you would not want to express an opinion on some topic...you are 100% correct thast there will be no "mind changing" when it comes to politics on this board. I was only hoping for a little critical thinking. Enjoy! But, don't ever forget...good things are happening! -
Obama Vs Reagan
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
??????????? So, you just don't like expressing an opinion one way or the other, right? I have found that to be the case... -
With the "blank check" program in full swing in Washington DC these days, I thought I'd look at the last time the nation was in a real economic downturn and check to see who led us out and how he did it...You do recall Ronald Reagan, right? Well let's see... 1980 Reagan takes office with inflation in the double digits, unemployment higher than today's level, the top income tax rate approaching 70% and average mortgage rates at 14.7%...so what did Reagan do? Well he took four steps: 1) He reduced (REDUCED) the top income tax rate to 28%...with the second tier at 15% (I believe these were the only two brackets); 2) He drasticly reduced government spending; 3) Inflation was cut in half; and 4) he de-regulated (got government out of areas where private industry should function). IT WORKED! The US entered the greatest period wealth building in the history of the world that lasted from 1980 to 2007! Now, let's see where Mr. Obama seems to be taking the country; 1) New tax INCREASES announced; 2) Hugh new levels of government spending; 3) Rising INFLATION (you cannot pump up the money supply like Obama is doing without creating inflation); and 4) Increased government regulation and possible nationalization of certain private sectors. So far, it appears that the so-called "Stimulus" bill will create 32 new government agencies! Do you really think we will be able to EVER eliminate these new agencies once established? Talk about wasting tax dollars. Government DOES NOT create wealth...it stymies wealth creation by its very nature. Government simply takes dollars from one part of the economy and places them in another part of the economy. Net result is NO new wealth creation. So, the debate continues and I am sure there are folks who simply will continue to refuse to see what will work and what will not. It is time to stop comparing Mr. Obama to FDR and start comparing him the Ronald Reagan. History has proven that what Ronald Reagan did WORKED. It has not done so with the massive government spending programs enacted through the FDR years. Without WW II there is serious doubt that that FDR would have had any success in bringing the nation out of its economic woes. We have already seen how throwing $ billions at the automakers has worked out...they are back asking for $ billions more of the taxpayers hard earned dollars! Anyway, this looks like a great study for some economist/poly sci student as I am certain the Obama Administration's policies will give us plenty of time for research. Interesting comparisons developing. Yes, it is "early" in the Obama administration, so we will wait to see how it all develops. We all need to hope and pray that what has NEVER worked in the past will somehow work this time around. In the meantime, I remind everyone...policies are fair game to be attacked, but let's not personally attack this president as Mr. Bush was so attacked. He IS our president...all of us should remember that little fact.

Don't waste your time trying to get some of these foks to say anything positive about UNT. It's just not in them it seems. Just keep posting and enjoy the board. It is fun and is really no different than anything else...there will always be folks who want to find something wrong with everything. That's OK, just keep supporting the Mean Green. Like alot of foks, they'll jump right on the bandwagon when the winning starts...and right off it again if there are a couple of losing seasons. It's just the nature of the game and it's a choice. Hopefully, their negativity will not get in the way of their overall support for UNT.

Trojans Tackle Mean Green Without Junior Guard Moore
KRAM1 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Wow, you mean there are consequences for one's actions? Let's hope the cocah follows through on this. Sounds like this was not the "first challenge" the coach has had with this guy. You think Mr. Moore has a record of being "pampered" during his youth and high school years when it come to sports participation? Can this be the first time a coach has had a "discipline" problem with this guy? I don't know, as I do not know Mr. Moore at all...I hope he finds success in his future plans. Too bad, this type of thing is not good news for anyone. Good luck Mr. Moore. -
????????? I'm not touching this one until there are some specifics...Me thinks playmaker is having some devilish fun here.

Nice crowd last night...it was great to see that many stayed after the women's game too. Still would like to see this size crowd being considered a "poor turnout" rather than a great crowd, but, we are getting there, and this was a nice step...crowd-wise. Now, as for the game itself...UGH! Seems UNT took a step back in this one, but do not fear...UNT will have a home play-in game and will win that to head to Hot Springs and more wins!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!

I find the "allegations" of "juice" a bit hard to believe. Until I find anything to the contarary that can be substantiated I will ignore these type of unverified allegations. I find this type of stuff (unverified allegations of wrong doing) troubling and wonder what motivation one has in posting same.

Obviously, a case of a reporter not doing her homework. Lazy...as many seem to be these days. The comment is jst an indication that these sort of reporters are like everyone else in the media...don't work hard and get real background...just put something out there...since many people belive these "so-called self-annointed" experts...why do any real reporting? Too bad...but, at the end of the day means absolutely NOTHING!

NT1978...how is it that you know me that well?

Agreed...my wife and I walked away from the first house we had signed a contract to buy. Lucky we were "smart enough" to put some contingencies in the contract regarding financing levels. When we saw the financing paperwork, it dawned on us that we would be stretched way to thin, and would be an "accident waiting to happen" should either of us have a hiccup with our jobs. Gee, what a concept...read the paperwork and figure out what you can afford. Worked for us. And, everyone from the realtor to the lender to the tiltle company was telling us "no problem" it looks great...you can definitely afford this! Yea, right! We bought another home, sold it and built the home we now live in...and get this concept...IT'S PAID FOR!!!!!!!! And, without your taxdollars helping us pay for it! Tell me how happy I am about my tax dollars going to pay for other people's homes! It was a real struggle sometimes covering that mortgage payment/taxes/insurance/utilities/repairs, etc., but my ife and I an our three kids made some tough choices when we had to do so and got through it just fine. Seems to me that's what it is all about. No one ever promised that growing up and being responsible for your own decisions was going to be easy. But, it sure is satisfying!

BIG game Saturday...BE THERE!!!!!

Everyone seems to have the problem of putting the ball on the floor in the lane...not common just to UNT either. This is a common problem in college basketball. You seem to have to get "pretty far up the NCAA food chain" before you see teams not do this....IT'S A MISTAKE, but a hard habit to break I would imagine. Think it's bad at the college level? Go watch a HS game. Agrre...this was not Justin's best night, but he has been playing rather well lately...so, give him this one. It was another nice win. SEE YOU SATURDAY! By the way...I take some credit for the recent wiining streak. I put a UNT flag outside the house just before the streak started...UNT has not lost since! Could it be?????

Food from El Guapo's was very good last evening and the beer was cold! As usual...a very nice time...I took the opportunity to personally thank "El Guapo" for his continued support for UNT. So, it was a great eveing...fun with friends and good food/drink before the game and then another good win by the MEAN GREEN. What's not to like???? Good things are happening! GO MEAN GREEN!

I wonder where this will actually laed with regard to Gio's "career" as a college QB? I wish him well...now, on with the show! The king is dead, long live the king!!!! UNT will have a better team in 2009. Count on it! GO MEAN GREEN!

Story just seems to get stranger and stranger. I would like to know what the real story is with all of this. I do find it all pretty odd..."space cadet" stuff from his Dad. Is his Dad playing with a full deck? I have no way of knowing as I have never met the man, but would assume he is of at least "normal" intelligence. That's what makes all this so "interesting" to say the least. Does anyone think this was Dad's doing, and that Gio just "gave in" to Dad (who may have some sort of grudge against TD for something he may or may not have done? REally interesting. The kid can play, and I wish he were still playing for UNT. Did he "bail" or did Dad force him to "bail" because of looming competition for the #1 job? It cannot be that, can it? I just don't get it. If you have a problem with competition (which I doubt Gio has...I don't know what I think about his Dad) why play college sports in the first place? It "ain't HS football where nosy/pushy/bossy parents can and do have a say in what goes on with the team...you think that had something to do with it...Daddy was not being "listened too" by the head coach so he took his "ball" and left the field? I sure hope not. Anyone have any isnside scoop on this. I do wish Gio well wherever he ends up...and I do hope he ends up playing again. The kid has some decent talent...and showed the UNT fan base that he's a pretty tough kid..anyone...this is so very strange.

Amazing comments...simply amazing.

variable interest rate structures are not, in themselves, predatory. many people, myself included, have had variable interest rate structures from time to time that have worked out very well. One needs to know how to read and to understand what they are signing. That is as much the responsibility of the person borrowing the money as it is the lender's. A variable interest rate structure in no way, in itelf, indicates predatory lending practices.

The whole idea of taxpayers bailing out folks who made STUPID financial decisions sickens me! Sort of like the idea of giving billions of dollars to faling car companies. Here's an idea...if the problem is that folks are not buying cars, then give folks a tax credit for buying a car...any brand/any make. Don't pour billions of dollars on the "top" of a comapny that has failed to deliver and expect them to do anthing with it other than to lose that money too and come back asking for more. Put the money into the hands of the citizens and they will quickly decided if GM/Chrysler/Ford should survive! Giving billions of dollars to the auto company leadership to figure out how to use is like giving a firefighter lighter fluid and telling him to use it to put out a fire raging fire! Welcome to Obomanomics 101...hold on to your wallets or Obomanomics will give your hard earned dollars to folks who think spending every penny they get is the way to prepare for the future.

Here we go agin with someone knocking a local establishment who actually supports the Mean Green. Man, when will folks ever learn? I personally enjoy going to El Guapo's from time to time and have not found a problem to be concerned about during any visit. I find the food good and the beer cold and the wait staff have always been great...many being UNT students it seems. It is simply amazing to me how some folks who call themselves MEAN GREEN fans continue to knock the few businesses in town that try to be good AND ACTIVE supporters of the Mean Green. If you don't like a place, fine, your right...your dollars, but comments such as the above do no good AT ALL.

I wonder how many of the "new order" are paying their own way through UNT? Reminds me of the 60's at UNT when lots of protest marches, etc. were going on. Many of the "left wing" crowd were being subsidized by their parents. Funny, how you seem to have time for theis stuff when someone else if footing the bill. I know, I know...not all, but I would guess that several members of this group are not footing the bill by themselves. Seems to me, this is part of what college is "all about". I would not get too worked up about this group. Their "cause" has proven a failure everywhere it has been tried and most will wonder back into the mainstream of politics (on one side or the other) once the reality of having to actually work for a living and pay all your own bills hits home. Give them their "experimentation" during this time of their lives...it is really what college is about...learning and experimenting with different ideas, theories, etc. Not to worry....

You just like watching college girls run around in very tight fitting pants...be honest!

I agree that "good things" are on the way. Give coach a couple of years to recruit the type of players she wants in her program and I think we will all see the beginning of some nice winning years for the ladies. Nice bounceback win after such a tough loss. GO MEAN GREEN!
