Guess you didn't read or understand or both. I never said folks were calling for Baylor instead of Liberty. Just indicated that if Baylor was scheduled folks would be ga ga over having "thug U" come to Apogee while at the same time bemoaning the "values" of Liberty. Thought I made myself clear...guess not. No problem, but certainly was not out to "win arguments against points no one is making". I made my own point, you just missed it I guess. Like I said...no problem. I stand by my point as 100% valid. Winner! -
Excellent! Now waiting for the usual suspects to find fault. Tick....tick.....tick....tick.......while this was league decision, I am guessing that with UNT's tie to the Cowboys, both Dr. Smatresk and Wren Baker played some role in making this happen. Noted that Wren would be speaking at the presser.

Just the idea that there would be a resale market for UNT tickets makes me smile!

DRC: Report -- ODU to receive $1.32 million to play Liberty
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
He definitely is aware that there is the usual portion of the fan base that will complain about every move he makes to try to adjust and correct a schedule that will be entertaining to the fan base, have a decent opportunity for wins that are sorely needed to increase such fan base and that will make room on a packed schedule years out for those corrections. As easy as some feel scheduling is...because, you know, Texas State did it....until you give it a shot (and not just pontificate with "I would or would not do this or that", what looks like something you call "dog poo" may be just the thing needed to start the fix of a not so exciting home schedule. All remains to be seen. Wren has indicated that this Liberty series is 1/3 of an overall "first step" in correcting that schedule. Might be nice to see what the other 2/3's might be before throwing Wren to the gutter in typical GMG.com fashion. How many schools you think are standing in line to play UNT right now and who are willing to drop scheduled games, pick up our games, etc. and come to Apogee or pay us to go to their house within the next 3-5 years? Plus...just tell me how many said "named" schools are drooled NT to come to Apogee with a max of say 30,000? All questions an AD must answer, of course, in trying to "fix" a schedule with teams whose schedules are also pretty well set. I don't have the answers. If I did I could get AD money somewhere. But, while not excited, at all, about this Liberty series, I will take our new AD at his word and see how it plays into the bigger scheduling picture. And, I will darn sure show up to watch the Mean Green whip up on these Liberty U. guys.- 75 replies

You guys are funny talking about values in reference to scheduling a football game. Most here would be absolutely over the moon gag a about a home game with Baylor, yet bemoan a game with Liberty over "that school's values". Baylor...biggest thug school in the country=AOK and look the other way. Oh, Liberty...not so much! Just a little on the hypocritical side wouldn't you think? And can you just see that Liberty fan board all up in arms over playing UNT. A place where athletes run prostitution rings! You guys talking .... Too funny.- 28 replies

Wren never said the games were too tough. That ridiculous idea was created here in this forum. He said it was tough to prepare for a team who runs an offense you will play against only once and that is so different than anything else you will run up against. BIG difference than saying they are "tough" to play. You may recall that we beat them at their house pretty soundly and took them to OT in the HOD Bowl. Hardly too "tough" an opponent to play.

Get down to the San Antonio Caravan stop and plead your case for an Austin stop next year. I drove that distance for business many many times back and forth in a day...not bad if the highway idiots din't crash into each other! -
I believe the answer is ZERO. But, there has been no absolute confirmation of that...just an "unnamed " source.

Good idea...but, sorry, not this time.

He would like to see Clayton come to UNT.

The date for this year's HOD Bowl has been set for Dec. 26th. Time not set as yet. Lockheed Bowl in Ft. Worth set for Dec. 23rd with a 2:30pm kick. I am hoping for the Ft Worth option this year. Just because it's a different Bowl and I like the date better for pre-game activities, etc. But, either would be great. Hit 7! Or.....more!

Clayton Tune has been offered by UNT! This would be a really great get for UNT. Not only is he a great HS QB at this point, he is Mean Green family and brother of former UNT QB, Nathan Tune. I believe he is a Kansas commit, but there is some indication that he would be willing to seriously consider changing that commit to UNT. Bring it home to UNT Clayton!

Jumping the gun a bit here folks...you should be very pleased when you find out who the Army replacement happens to be. Lots of good info to be had at the Caravans. Nice crowd at the Denton Caravan...I would estimate better than Dallas...less than Plano. Shame on Dallas!

OK, folks, I have been asked to help organize another fundraising event for a UNT Alum and Athlete...and former Cheer Team member. Kellie Delka is part of the U.S. Women's National Skeleton Team, and it is 100% up to her to raise the funds she needs for equipment and travel. And, as you might can realize, equipment and travel is pretty darn expensive. For example...that SMALL SKELETON SLED COSTS FROM $8,000 TO $10,000 and must be replaced every 3-4 years, runners go for $600, speed suits for $800 and on and on for equipment. Travel is yet another large expense. Flying off to train and compete in Europe can add up pretty quickly. Kellie is not a newcomer to the sport and very much wants to work to earn one of the coveted US Olympic Team slots for Korea or a future Winter Olympic Games. She was 4th in the 2014 National Push Championships, 4th at the US Nationals in 2015, 2nd at the 2015 National Push Championships, 6th at the 2016 US Nationals and 3rd Overall on the 2017 European Cup Tour. So, she continues to improve in her performance and rankings. So, here is what we are thinking after talking with Kellie, her parents and another UNT Alum who got me into this in the first place....we are looking at a July Corn Hole tournament...perhaps at one of the local Denton watering holes...on a Saturday afternoon...maybe with food to purchase and a few items to purchase or bid on to help raise a few dollars. Maybe have the Corn Hole Tournament a 60/40 proceeds split...60% to Kellie with lessor amounts for 1st, 2nd and maybe third place finishers...t-shirts as a part of registration or to sell on site... Just looking for a bit of a show of interest at this point. Much to do before any solid announcements can be made, but would there be any interest in proceeding with a GoMeanGreen.com Corn Hole tournament fund-raiser for Kelli? By the way...that's Kellie on the right in the attached photo. Maybe some of you may remember her from Track or Cheer at UNT. https://www.theodysseyonline.com/kellie-delka-her-road-to-the-2018-olympic-games Mark's Notebook.url

Brett Vito has a piece, that is in another thread and recently posted, that speaks to this issue. I do not feel comfortable posting any more than I already have from a private conversation. Sorry. The one thing I can say is that by scheduling this series UNT has freed up room to schedule team that fit into the framework that Brett lines out in his article and that Wren discussed last night at the Caravan. Liberty just happened to be the school that fit the timetable and was willing to work with us to move things around. I do not believe Liberty was targeted, but rather the "opportunity" came up in the many schools and conversations Wren has had in recent weeks as he tries to "adjust" our schedule to better fit what he, Coach Littrell and others feel works better for UNT. One aim is to not have to schedule those so-called money games for too much longer. But, that is just one piece in the on-going and developing strategic planning that is going on with UNT Athletics. One other thing that I have really enjoyed hearing at these Caravans is how much our other coaches in the "Olympic Sports" appreciate what Wren is doing to give them the tools they need to be successful...not just helping football and basketball.

I certainly did not take it as a personal insult. I simply considered the source. My comments regarding your original response remain as I expect your feelings do as well. If you are correct, it seems every major program in the country has a bunch of these so-called "ass kissers" as the majority of programs spending a decent amount of staff time time and departmental money and energy to attempt to engage with their fans in locations easy for fans to attend, sure seem to draw a good number of these "ass-kissers"...other than UNT, of course. That very answer was explained to me last evening at the Dallas Caravan by one Wren Baker himself. Amazing that you would care to know yet will not take the small amount of time it would take to get the answer to your questions by attending one of the local Caravans. There is a very logical answer...whether you or I might like the answer or not is a personal decision...but the answer provided to me last night at Dot's was indeed very logical. And, involved opinions from a number of people...not just Wren Baker.
-
And...they cut block as a technique. Not dirty play or illegal, but tough on opposing teams D-Line legs and knees. Simply a risk, but a risk of playing the game itself. Just...do you want to increase the risk of injury playing a team you KNOW will cut block the entire game? Not just Army, but Navy and to a lesser extent Air Force as well. Trying to compensate for a smaller O-Line front than most schools they play...including UNT.

"I don't care for these events" = totally appropriate response "it's for ass kissers" = totally inappropriate response

Turnout in Plano was OK....I would guess 150-200. On the other hand, turnout in Dallas was horrible last night. Great venue...Dot's Hop House...owned and operated by UNT guys and big supporters of the program....and leaving out staffers and football players and Cheer team members I am going to guess 75 "fans", and mainly the same faces one sees at most every event. I was shocked at how poorly this caravan stop was attended. On the other hand, due to the terribly disappointing attendance, coaches and players were easy to get to chat with one on one. I had excellent conversations with Coach Littrell, Coach Mitchell (met our new women's assistant), Coach McCasland and Wren Baker. Mason Fine was a treat to chat with for a moment as well. In addition, at Dallas, women's golf, volleyball and track were all represented with coaches. Too bad UNT fans do not care enough to find a way to make it to these events. I can guarantee you that if OSU had a Caravan stop last night at Dot's there would have been at least 750 to 1000 fans in attendance. At least. We, as UNT fans, really do need to find a way to support these events. If, of course, we want to see them continue. Fun evening for the few who made the effort...for $5 we got food a free drink and lots of fun. By the way...I was home by 8:45pm back in Denton, so not late at all...even for a "school night". Here's hoping for a solid turnout tonight in UNT's Denton backyard. Oh, and don't bore me with another "win and folks will show up" mantra...after our HOD win under the McCarney team with season tickets and attendance declining the next year, that old dog "win and folks will show up" is getting pretty lame when it comes to UNT fans. I am guessing turnouts in Houston and San Antonio will dwarf Dallas figures. Sure hope so. Heck, I am thinking Little Denton will dwarf "Big D's" sad excuse for a turnout. Let the excuses begin to flow......

Baker vows to elevate program at caravan stop
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I asked Coach Hedlund that at the Plano Caravan stop. He said it will become the soccer practice field. We shall see, but that is what Coach Hedlund said...right from the source I guess. -
It's a football game, people. Against a full FBS member school that is a "winnable" game for UNT. We are not nominating Falwell for Chancellor nor are we anointing him the "second coming". It is a football game. Plain and simple it is.

It is extremely well done and a real asset for the Mean Green. These nominations are well deserved. Bravo!
