  1. Yep...a must see for me. I watch band of Brothers several times a year. Great series and I see "new" things each time I watch it. This one will really have to go some to "beat" Band of Brothers.
  2. Nice report...many thanks. Coach Hedlund does a good job recruiting when it comes to the very high quality teams that represent the DFW Metroplex in youth soccer. Just look at the list you presented...have fun the rest of the tournament. Do you have a "connection" to one of the Sting teams?
  3. Eulesseagle...hang in there. You know you have "arrived" when the postings turn more "personal". I was waiting for it to happen to ya!
  4. So, you voted for "change" and it seems you have been once again fooled by the Obama Administration. I am certain everyone and, especially my more liberal friends on this board, recall the the cry that went out when the Bush administration refused, citing presidential privilege rules, to release the names of the "oil executives" the administration was meeting with in the White House. In fact, then Senator Obama, called for the release of the "secret list" of executive names. Shame on the Bush administration for hiding things and keeping meetings secret....shame...shame...and on and on it went for days, weeks, months in the papers and on the TV, etc., etc. There were calls in Congress for investigations for sanctions against the Bush Administration, etc. How could this be happening...Bush as no right to do this it was said....How in America the democrats said could this be happening!!!! The shame of it all..... So, what happens now...the Obama Administration is holding "secret" meetings in the White House with coal company executives and has just refused, citing the very same privilege that the Bush administration cited, to release the names of those who attended the "secret" meetings. Man, you just can't make this stuff up. I will bet you right here and now that this little bit of "news" sees VERY little media attention, until all those "right wingers" out there pick up on it and it hits the talk radio circuit. Yep, that's the definition of change for this administration...do the exact same thing you chastised soundly the former president for doing and cite the same presidential privilege. Hmmmmmmmmm, and the sheep just continue to fall in line behind this guy. Amazing stuff this!
  5. Bad is bad...doesn't matter which side you are on...did this guy just sign up folks as "Republicans" under fraudulent means or did he sign up unqualified voters as "Republicans"? A bit different than actually seeing unqualified votes at the polls. Bad yes none the less, but did anyone actually vote through a fraudulent means????
  6. I'll take it! But, do think we have a very good shot at 3 OC wins! Just saying....
  7. That would be "Confederations" Cup not "Confederates" Cup. What a turn of events for the US Team. They had to beat Egypt by 3 or more goals and have Brazil beat Italy by three or more goals and that is exactly what happened. Amazing stuff, and on top of it the squad looked as if they pulled their collective heads out of their "you know whats" and actually played a decent game. Egypt beat Italy, so they are not a terrible team at all. The U.S. reward for advancing to the semi-finals???? They get to play Spain on Wednesday...Spain, I do believe, is the #1 rated team in the world at the moment. Let's hope the US squad doesn't played "scared" like they did against Brazil a few days ago. very fun game to watch, but, yes, US probably should have been down 0-1 early, but the soccer god's were with the red, white and blue yesterday. Yes, Dempsey had a tough start...I am looking forward to seeing the team when the full squad is together and back from injury.
  8. So, Emmitt, I thought "defenders of the peace" had to have a college degree. Looks like you had some challenges with math, geography and geometry.
  9. Interestingly enough, my bride and I had the experience of driving on German's autobahn not long ago. I was "less than impressed" after being excited about being able to drive as fast as I wanted...what guy wouldn't like that opportunity. Way cool, right? Well, for the most of our drive from Germany (Munich area) on into France (Paris) we could not drive "full out" as there were posted speed signs (tunnels, curves, etc.)...the highway, for the most part is four lane (two in each direction) BUT in very good condition. The road base is built to last there, not like the flimsy road construction done on US interstate highways. But, when we could "floor it" I did (had a rented small Mercedes so it could travel fairly well), and it was fun...however, you had better get the heck out of the way when someone comes up behind you...and I mean get out of the way FAST...some og the high powered Ferrari's, Lotuses, Porche machines can really fly! I think my bride had "white knuckles" the whole time we were on the Autobahn and was none too glad when we exited. Me, great fun...but I can tell you, you had better know what you are doing and keep a good look see in the rear view mirror! In fact, most folks were driving in the inside lane and doing about 50-55 mph. Gas is too expensive in Europe to burn up doing 100+, and folks in Germany told me that it is "no big deal" to them to have the opportunity to drive "stupid". Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...and I thought it was fun!
  10. I always read the "Blotter" in the DRC. It is a great source of "stupid human" happenings and makes one wonder WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???? In most cases, they were not thinking at all. Shows you how really stupid some folks can be when it comes to just the basics of "common sense". really funny stuff sometimes...if it were not so sad!
  11. OUCH! And, that during the time of those New Orleans Bowl appearances by Coach Dickey's teams. Man, this is a tough run...but, better things are on the way in 2009 for the Mean Green.
  12. Get your mind out of the gutter...you don't want to be acting like Letterman or anything like that...
  13. OK, you have played your hand this time...obviously you have not been to many "kid's soccer games" if you think there are no spoiled athletes! Well, actually, it's not the kids so much as the parents...even at Under-6 and Under-8 games some of the parents are way over the top. Almost...not quite...but almost reminds me of little kid baseball and pee wee football parents. At Under-6 and Under-8 the kids are talking to players on the other team and asking if they want to "spend the night" with them after the game and if they will get ice cream and stuff...while the parents are going ballistic over a refs call they have no idea what happened, what law of the game was invoked, etc., etc. Can be really funny sometimes. Well, if the parents were not so sad that is.....
  14. Travis...great stuff...man, I'm glad to have you on the board...it gets a bit "lonely" at times. I agree with the comments about Coach Bradley. It might just be time (after the 2010 World Cup) to look outside the U.S. for our next head coach. Bora (the oft hired turn around guy) did OK with what he had to work with those many years ago, I think the team is fundamentally more sound and "mature" (as an organization) now and could be ready for a foreign born coach. This team (the one often seen on the pitch from Bradley) seems to lack the stamina to go a full 90. Frankie is a spark and should be there consistently...he has earned his spot (although is that a face only a mother could love or what???), BOCA and Spector are both fine. Beasley...what's up? He has now even apologized for his "error" in the Brazil game. He shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place...he seems to be "done" in my opinion. The U.S. should make it through qualifying to the World Cup, but they need to find themselves or it will be a very early exit after the first round games. I will be in the Seattle area over the 4th of July and may get to see the U.S. play. They need to come to Frisco and play a friendly sometime soon. Glad to have you on the board, Travis! GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. I got it. It's not all that subtle. BUT, funny none the less.
  16. GEEEEEEEEZZZZZZ LOUISE...Eric Wynalda no less. If you knew much about soccer you would realize this is the sort of stuff Wynalda has been known for through out his very "up and down" career on the National Team. He scored a great goal for the U.S. in one World Cup as I recall, but his teams did not do all that well on the World stage. He was known as much for his "big mouth" and bad temper (not always much of a team player either at times...seemed to be in it for his personal "glory") as he was for his play. The guy had a ton of talent and at times was brilliant on the pitch, but always seemed to be complaining about one thing or the other, knocking his team mates, etc. So, quotes from Eric Wynalda are nothing new. Interesting rant, however! And, while said a bit differently, he does seem to think the U.S. team was not much to "look at" in the Italy game. Can't say as I disagree with that point.
  17. Now, that's the way to think! Glad you woke up and joied the "Positive Force".
  18. I am sure this will "warm the hearts" of my soccer hating friends here on GMG.Com, but the latest two games by the US squad in the Confererations Cup (being played in South Africa as a "preview" of the 2010 World Cup) were absolutely pitiful. This is YOUR National team I am talking about here. Like soccer or not, it is the NATIONAL TEAM...like the embarrassing show basketball put on before this last Olympis win...embarrassing! Sure, the U.S. played the current world champ (Italy) and probably the second best team in the world (Brazil) in these two games, but come on...two embarrassing and lifeless games by the US squad. They lost 1-3 to Italy and then 0-3 to Brazil. BAD...just plain bad. Two goals from Italy were scored by an AMERICAN born player (Rossi) who could have been playing in a U.S. jersey. Talk about insult to injury. Man, both were very tough to watch. Against Italy the play was OK, but against Brazil...can you say never even showed up???? The U.S. teams looked nervous and timid against the Brazilians and certaily made some stupid tackles (one leading to a very unnecessary red card) while they were at it all. Coach Bradley needs to do something quick to change the "attitude" of this team. Beasley seems to be "past his prime" and I am not sure yet that Bradley (son of head coach) deserves his position...yet. Bradley has talent, but needs to play a full 90 min. and hone those passes and defensive skills. And, Donavan...the supposed best U.S. player...the "thinking" that he just doesn't "show up" in important games...well, might be some truth to that. The U.S. plays Egypt next in the Cup and needs to show up! Egypt is a real surpriase...they beat Italy 1-0 and just lost to Brazil 4-3 or something like that. Egypt will be a real test for the U.S. and is an up and coming team on the world stage. OK, rant over...very disappointed inj the U.S. team's play during this current Confederations Cup.
  19. Gee, and the Obama folks didn't like that "Axis of Evil" thing......N. Korea is a starving nation that really has very little to lose. That makes it so very dangerous to the rest of the world. The North Koreans have learned that if they rattle their swords loud and long enough the West will give them something in exchange for a "wonderful" promise from the North Koreans to "play nice"...that promise, of course, will immediately be broken, but they still will have received both the attention (like a bratty child) and the "reward" (be it food, lifting of trade sanctions, etc.) for their bad behavior. The Russians and the Chinese will not support the North Koreans should they actually fire that shot at Hawaii. They are both getting as tired as we are with the antics of the idiot leadership (non-leadership) coming out of N. Korea these days. But, a wounded dog is a nasty dog to deal with and N. Korea is a both a woundede and crazy dog with vwery little if anything to lose. The leadership of N. Korea cares nothing about the average citizen, so the suffereing they would absorb means zero. The N. Korean arry is well trained and well supplied, but would definitely not be able to stand up to the West in any protracted land battle without Russian or Chinses help. And, this time there would be no Chinese troops crossing the Yulu River in aid of the N. Koreans. This is another "ploy" for attention on the part of the N. Koreans, but it is a very dangerous one indeed. Will be interesting and important to see how this turns out. In part, this could be due to the preceived "weakness" on foreign policy and defense on the part of the current Obama Administration. This could very well be Obama's chance to show the world that he is not the "pansy" he seems to be on defense and international policy. I do hope he can show some reral strong leadership here. I would certainly be surprised...he may want to just sit down and talk to these guys...you know...can't we all just get along stuff from his campaign promises, but I am hopeful he grows some "you know what" and presents a strong response. We'll see. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here until or if he proves otherwise. Time will tell...and not too much time at that.
  20. That really is funny...but I did vote that UNT will start the season 2-0. You know, good things are happening for UNT football these days. Until Dodge and Company prove to me that 2009 will not be a turnaround year I am going with a 2-0 start to the season. (I just wanted to frame the cooment in a way some of our less positive "fans" could understand it... )
  21. Not good news for the Mean Green, but probabaly expected. Too bad that the Mean Green will lose such a good coach, but I am confident that what he started in the S&C area will help the next coach. I think the team is probably better off for having Coach Ausmus here even for the short time he stayed. Good luck to Coach Ausmus. I cannot blame him at all under the cirsumstances and wish him nothing but the best. GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. Great out of conference schedule with plenty of great looking games at home. Seems there is no problem with some of the "bigger conference" schools playing at UNT in soccer. Come on football! But, I see the same thing about the home vs away conference schedule. What's up withy that???? OUCH. I am hoping there is a mis-print in the schedule. I can't imagine Hedlund sitting still for such a lopsided (or RV for that matter) home/away conference schedule. Does not make sense. let's hope it is a typo. GO MEAN GREEN!
