EagleD...topic already posted. But, Charlie's family needs and deserves the Mean Green Nation's thoughts and prayers, so a second thread is an OK thing.

I think Charlie nt73 makes some excellent points, and I agree that Cam has a very good shot at going over 1200 yards with Riley going over 2500. I think we will all see a much improved offense owing to an improved OL and improvements at QB (no offense to to "prior" QB). Defenses will have to focus on the passing attack, which should open up carries and yards for Cam. On the other hand, Cam will not be the only back to get touches this year, and if his touches are limited due to "sharing the carries" it might be hard to get the yards. But, 100 avg. per game is definitely NOT out of the question for Cam. Charlie nt73...thanks for the sound write-up! GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS! Great...any other GMG.com posters planning on attending? I am told that the Alumni Assoc. has some 40+ RSVP's for the event so far off their Facebook page...NO...you do not have to RSVP, but if you feel like doing so through the UNT Alumni Association's Facebook page, great...woukld be super to have over 50 RSVP's to go with the folks like me who are "Facebook Challenged" and will not be RSVP'ing that way...Ha! A cold beer (or two) some munchie specials and UNT football and stadium talk all in the same evening...PRICELESS!

NOPE...apparently it is not illegal to hit a stationary object like a building and leave the scene...if no one is injured. All you are required to do is to leave your contact information. In this case, this brillent UT "student-athlete" did not leave his contact info at the scene, but did contact the building owner/manager the next morning. You have to believe the guy has some serious issues. BUT, he, in fact, may have been "texting while driving" and not drinking...there is a study just out that says texting while driving hampers your abilities more than "being under the influence". Hmmmmmmm...interesting, and yet we can't get a law passed to make it illegal to talk or text on the phone while driving. Just another UT "student-athlete" reflecting well on the University of Texas. I am sure this makes Emmitt's day a bit brighter.

Governer's Race
KRAM1 replied to EagleD's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I don't diagree with you there, but isn't "no child left behind" a federal governement initiative? When you couple that with Perry's education policies you really get a mess on your hands. Time to allow our teachers to teach. -

Soccer In America

Thought we were getting in Donovan and the more recentyl Adu, but while Donovan has become the leading goal scorer in US National Team history he is a bit far away from being a superstar on the world stage and at this point Adu could be considered an emerging talent, but hardly a star at any level...a bench player for the National Team, with tons of potential to become that superstar or a bust. Too early to tell. Yes, the discussion regarding looking for "running backs, etc." as opposed to midfielders has been around a good while, but is definitely true. Let's face it, if a kid has star potential in football and/or basketball how does he turn down the millions for potentially the hundred thousands? That's one reason you see the Tim Howards, Landon Donovans, etc. try their hand in Europe, Great Britain, Spain, Belgium, etc. And, when American players (other than goalkeepers) make a foreign squad, they often find themseleves riding the bench for long periods of time. You can't be a "designated hitter" and do well in soccer. You have to play on a regular basis. When the MLS grows to be able to compete on a more even keel with the bigger European clubs more American players will stay "home" and to play and actually get the playing time they need to develop. This is an argument in England these days as to why England has not done that well on the world statge in recent years. They allow too many foreign players into the Premier League thus relegating young promising English players to the Reserve Squads or the ebenh on the senior squad. When National team duty cvomes along, they lack experience and confidence. Lots of talk in England about this these days...same can be said about American players needing playing time. Great to see and read all the good soccer stories in the press the last few days. Hard to imagine, but there have even been some fairly positive comments on GMG.Com...imagine that. -

Perhaps...but, good things are happening for soccer in the US of A these days. -
At least the Supreme Court majority got this one right! Score one for the US Constitution. Sotomayor looks even less qualified to be a Supreme Court justice with this ruling. Hey, I know judges get overturned and others on the Supreme Court have been overturned. I understand that. But, activist judges have absolutely no place on any bench (that's my opinion anyway).

NO...what better day than the 4th of July to carry on the spirit of what made this nation so great in the first place. The event at Southfork Ranch on the 4th is shaping up to be a great affair...maybe they will have one in Anacortes, Washington where my bride and I will be visiting our son and daughter-in-law for the 4th. Sorry to have to miss the local event. Should be a very well attended and presented event.

OK, are you ready for some football? Well, close anyway...the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association will be holding it's first Mixer for the new year on THURSDAY, JULY 9th beginning at 6:30PM at The Pourhouse Grill in Denton. ALL UNT Alumni and friends are welcome to attend. There will be short presentations from Athletic Dept. personnel including a stadium discussion and how one can "get involved" with the stadium project, etc. The Denton Chapter will unveil it's new "collector's edition" "TANK ARMY" T-Shirt for the first time, and shirts will be on sale for $12 each or two (2) for twenty dollars (cash or check please...no charges). The Pourhouse has said they will have some drink and food specials available for the event. In addition, members of the Alumni staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding membership, activities, etc. as well as athletic dept. personnel with schedule cards and other athletic dept. "stuff". Nothing formal, folks, just a good time meeting and greeting other Mean Green/Alumni members and friends. If you have questions about the event, just send me a PM and I'll get back with you...I hope to see a good crowd at the Pourhouse on the 9th to help "kick-off" the 2009 season. Hope to see you there with a friend! GO MEAN GREEN! GO ALUMNI! GO MEAN GREEN CLUB! ALL ARE WELCOME!

WOW...tough loss. Couldn't hold a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Brazilian goal just after half pretty much set the tone. But, I do think the U.S. handled themselves very well. Tim Howard was terrific in goal, Spector did a great job shutting down some very skilled Brazilian strikers, Onjehwu (spelling????) had a fine game and Donavon actually scored in a meaningful game for the US. All in all, I would say the team played a great first half...very inspired...attacked from all over the pitch and defended like they were world champions. However, it is tough to hold back the Brazilians for a full 90 min. when you are the number 14 ranked team in the world. As a UNT fan, think UNT vs. Texas in a few games that many of us can recall from "being there". OK, maybe that comparison is a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea. After having all but embarrassed themselves in the first two matches of the Confederations Cup, the US got their collective acts together and rallied for what turned out to be a very nice 2nd place finish in a FIFA tournament. I realize that second place is simply the "first loser", but it does set the team up for an upward move in the world rankings and gets them all the more prepared for the rest of the World Cup qualifying games and the World Cup itself. This tournament should show them that they can "play with the big boys" in the world of international soccer. Thanks for the run...GO USA!!!!! -

Green P1...come on now...you must be kidding, right? Page 3 is not pornographic. It is published in a nationally circulated newspaper in the UK. I would have thought you "leraned better" at UNT. -

OK, for all you "guys" and the ladies who like this sort of thing...since GreenBat posted a Sun article...are you aware of the Page 3 Girls in the Sun...if not go to the Sun's web site and click on Page 3 Girls....interesting. I was "introduced" to the Page 3 girls section while visiting one of our son's soccer coach's parents in Coventry, England several years ago. The paper is delived to their home and the mother asked her son (ex-UNT soccer player by the way...when UNT HAD men's soccer) why he left the paper out turned to the Page 3 girl??? As if she didn't already know...they print this is the paper! Nice! If you did not know about this...you can thank me later...if you did...why were you keeping it a secret??? -

Too early for me...not a big fan of Yay BH, but also not overly excited about Mr. Texas A&M at the helm any longer...but, signing the "stadium" bill for UNT is a BIGGIE for me and Texas does have a balanced budget...that is enough to snag my vote UNLESS a nother candiate comes along that I can really get excited about. Interesting how all the liberal leaning folks like to throw little negative nicknames out and still jump on Palin, etc., etc. Very sad that these folks can't get a new line once in awhile. Just saying...come up with something original...it might just be funny. -
Your 1st Place Texas Rangers
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
So, do we change the title of this thread to "YOUR SECOND PLACE RANGERS" now? Just wondering. hey, with the bats beginning to come alive and with Hamilton about to re-join the line-up AND with the series with LA coming up, I think the Rangers have an excellent shot at re-taking 1st place and being there over the All Star break. What say you? -
This is really great news for UNT Track and good news for UNT in general. CONGRATULATIONS TO TALLEY!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!

Now, that's creative!

Yep, and the Dallas Cowboys can get UNT the name of a great construction company for that indoor facility too!

No problem...I am playing golf this afternoon...and I will be walking and carrying my bag. Golf was made to walk! I am mindful of the dangers and take "proper" precaution, but refuse to let the Texas heat screw up my golf games. Born here, raised here...Texas is hot in the summer...still ... life goes on. So, will you visit me in the hospital if I collapse with heat stroke this afternoon...or will you celebrate that I would be unable to post on GMG.com for a few days?????
