Come to the Mixer and ask away!

Hold your horses there Cowboys...the SKY IS NOT FALLING! The challenge as I see it is communication. I will agree that there has been a lack of communication to the MEAN GREEN FAITHFUL regarding the stadium project (and even I find that a bit "interesting"), but we should welcome the input of "Glad To Be Green" as a potential opening of the communication channels a bit. I understand full well the "frustration" some independently minded business folks have with the plodding ways of government entities...and don't ever for one second think that UNT is not a "government entity" with a very large bureaucracy. There are many more "people" that must be pleased when the government is involved. The current UNT administration has shown itself to be pretty "top heavy" and "top down" in management style and I am more than certain that "other forces" are working in ways we can only guess with regards to the stadium project. The "rumor mill" aka "I have a friend who heard from someone that heard it from someone close to the program, etc." will continue to churn until the day the stadium opens for the first home game. Never for one second think you have the full story...heck, even folks in the UNT administration probably do not always know the full story...too many people and entities involved. BUT, what I do know is that UNT is closer to having a new stadium than it has been in the last 30 years! That's good news to me. I'll look for ways I can help make it happen and I'll enjoy the "ride". It is a positive sign that the project is getting press that indicates it will be built not IF it will be built. Sorry Mr. Goldfield is no longer on the steering committee, but he did donate a good deal of cash to the project when it really needed it and he has given of his time and talent to UNT. He is no longer on the committee, perhaps, but has indicated a willingness to continue to help. I take him at his word and I say "tanks" for helping UNT get this thing moving in the right direction. Unless you were in the meeting where and when Mr. Goldfield discussed his reasons for stepping down, you simply do not have the full story...and neither does Brett Vito or anyone else who feels the need to pontificate about this situation. That's why you might want to re-focus on having a good time watching the project develop. Because what we all do know is...a new stadium is going to be built at UNT with play expected within the next couple of years. GO MEAN GREEN!

Great response. As most folks here understand, I am a great proponent of the "positive" side of things. Too many on this site want to "beat a dead horse" over and over or see the past as the prediction for the future. Like "Glad to Be Green" says, there is much that is positive surrounding the stadium project and within the athletic dept as a whole. If one would try a shade of glasses a bit more rosy (OK, maybe not as rose colored as the ones I usually wear) it might just be surprising all the positive things you can find going on. I do think I had a phone call with "Glad to be Green" just yesterday, and if that is true, he will be attending our Denton Alumni Chapter Mixer tomorrow evening (7/9, 6:30PM, Pourhouse) and will be available to talk with anyone interested in finding out more about the stadium project...where it stands, progress made, progress to be made and how you might secure seats and help with funding. Thanks again..."Glad to Be Green". I, for one, hope to hear from you more often. GO MEAN GREEN...BUY SEASON TICKETS...JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB...JOIN THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION...DONATE TO THE STADIUM PROJECT...and most of all...HAVE FUN BEING PART OF THE MEAN GREEN NATION. aside...you do know that "having fun" part is mostly up to you and your attitude, right????

Armstrong = Greatest cyclist ever! Phelps = Greatest Swimmer ever! But, greatest Athlete ever????? How can a one-sport athlete be the "greatest athlete of all time"? I do not think I could ever consider a "one sport wonder" the greatest athlete of all time. With that criteria why not throw in Tiger Woods?...I am thinking that CMJ may be on to something with the Jim Thorpe vote.

A small bit of forgetfullness, perhaps? You are correct, sir...you did, indeed comment!

Oh, I forgot the front page stories of the school hoisting the "Director's Cup" and all the students chanting "Director's Cup, Director's Cup...we won we won!". I just forgot what a big deal it is...when was the presentation ceremony on? I guess I missed that when all the teams jumped around and fell on top of each other celebrating their "Director's Cup" win! Big...Big! How could one not give it much thought and still call themselves a college sports fan? Amazing lack of interest! And to think funding for such items as scholarships, facilities and programs is all tied to how you do in the final Director's Cup standings. There goes the new stadium!

Steve Mcnair Murdered
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just another guy who seemingly has no clue what a zipper can do for you. And, what about those marriage vows? All the media will talk about is what a great guy he was in the community and how great a QB he was, etc., etc. How about how great he was around the house and with his kids while he was spending time with his "mistress"????? Gee, what about that? My heart goes out to Mrs McNair (reports say she knew nothing about the affair) andf to the McNair children. Too bad they find out about their husband and Dad from media reports of an affair "gone way bad". I am saddened by the death of Steve McNair. What he was doing is no reason for murder, a divorce that takes him to the cleaners, ridicule in the media, a bit of fence mending with the kids, etc. perhaps, but murder...NEVER. The whole thing could have been avoided if he just kept his pants zipped and was really the MAN he wanted people to think he was...real men do not have affairs and do not cheat on their wives and kids! You want some "strange"...get a divorce first! It's getting real tiring reading about these guys who cheat...BUMS ALL! -
I have a UNT Baseball T-Shirt...wore it to the GMG.COM Bowl this year "just for fun" and no one said a word about it...I guess they all missed the humor in me wearing a North Texas Baseball shirt...some folks just don't have much of a sense of humor!

The Denton Chapter of the Alumni Association set up their Mixer for July 9th at the Pourhouse in part due to their support of GMG.COM and UNT in general. Now, how about some GMG.com posters showing up at the mixer? Starts at 6:30PM...should be a good time to meet and greet and get to enjoy some "words of wisdom" from RV and hear about the new stadium, etc. Oh, yes, it will also be your first chance to buy the new "collector's edition" TANK ARMY T-Shirt!!!!! Thanks to all our sponsors...I was doing a bit of Voertman's shopping just the other day myself as well.

So sad that this type of thing gets any play at all. Men's basketball is doing great as is women's soccer; tennis, softball and women's basketball are all on definite upswing moves, track is pretty solid as is cross-country, a new stadium is being developed, a pretty darn new athletic complex is "up and running", coaching staffs have been improved in recent seasons, and support levels are growing. OK, football has been a bit "off" in the win-loss column the last couple of years...but 2009 may well be the break-out year fans have been looking forward to having, so points or no points in this meaningless survey, athletics at UNT are in pretty good shape and getting better all the time. Heck, some say that even baseball is on the way..... If you want to complain about something, complain about something you can do something about...like having bigger numbers of season ticket holders for football and basketball...you can personally do something about that. Think about it! GO MEAN GREEN!

Fear not...it is true. Ann did, in fact, leave for family reasons. I am told there is a health matter in her family that she feels needs her attention. That's all that should be said about that, but she left for no other reason than that so I am told. Did a very nice job while here. I wish her nothing but the best and will pray that all turns out well for her and her family. GO MEAN MREEN!

Some have had enough in his first 100 days! Count me as one of those. -
I really believe that if the election were held TODAY, that Franken would be SOUNDLY defeated. I would imagine that many of the folks who voted for the guy are wondering why they did today with what has been going on in Washington with the crowd whose coattails this guy slid in on. In a way...it will be good for them to "get what they asked for" with Franken. The guy couldn't even support a radio program with his "talk"...

eulesseagle...That's CRAP and TRADE...not cap and trade. Biggest tax bill ever proposed in the history of the US. Amazing stuff, but at this time, it appears that the votes are not there in the senate to pass the thing in its current form. This would mean a big "watering down" of the proposal IF it has any chance of seeing the light of day in the senate. They couldn't even muster enough votes to discuss the thing before recess for the 4th of July holiday period. Not saying they won't "screw up" and pass this VERY BAD piece of legislation, but for now, it looks like it will take a "bunch of watering" to get it anywhere near senate approval. Then it would have to go to committee for reconciliation with the house version and on and on. I think Ms Pelosi is "doing the high five thing a bit early". And, guess what...it will not be $$$$$ for the trade going to US firms or "trees planted in the US"...US firms won't have the "tradable" ability...it will be more US jobs and dollars going overseas. This deal is "all on the US" and the citizens of the US. We "screw" ourselves and enrich foreign companies and foreign nations. That's great stuff. I can hardly think of a more one-sided anti-American piece of legislation as this poorly crafted "cap and trade" bill. Even GreenPeace hates it, and I never in my life thought I would ever agree with GreenPeace on ANYTHING. I oppose it for different reasons as their opposition comes because the bill does not go "far enough". I oppose it because it goes WAY TOO FAR! Here's another little "item" for everyone to ponder...I assume you have heard the proposal the administration is floating to help pay for the massive health care bill being proposed, right? The one where income limitations would be placed on the deduction for health care premiums paid by employees. The "income level" continues to decrease in the proposals so do not think this will hit only the "rich". You would be so very sadly mistaken if you did. OK, fair enough everyone pays...well, not so fast there Lone Ranger...guess who is excluded from the cap???? Well, the official language is for those with "negotiated contracts"...you, our fine citizen, can read that as LABOR UNION MEMBERS!!!!! You got it...we all pay in this proposal EXCEPT members of the labor unions...and just who do you think gave millions of dollars and man hours to help elect the current president and house majority???? Oh, could it be the big labor unions???? Great fairness in that little proposal, right? Yep, change you can live with. Haven't seen much of this is the main stream media as yet have you? You will, but they will be forced to report on it when it starts hitting the blogs, radio shows and a few more "fair and balanced" TV networks.

Seems to me...in one regard...this might be the most "legal" and "official" reason for a Latin American country coup ever. A coup in support of the nation's constitution. Interesting to think about is it not?
