  1. If I were a betting man, I don't bet, I just drink!!!!, I would give the chances of anything passing before the August recess a big fat ZERO! The opposition is building, even within the democrat base, and some folks (PHARMA for one) are feeling a bit duped into early support and are finding it a bit hard top continue to support this massive bill. Even the CBO Director has said that it will not lower costs, as promised by the Obama Administration, but instead will increase costs. We may choke down some sort of socialized plan for health care in the nation, but it is appearing more and more likely that it WILL NOT be the bill that is currently in the House for consideration. And, yes, you are right...the folks voting on this massive tax increase of a bill will not even have read the thing before they vote...if they vote. One other thing that is beginning to happen is that the "folks back home" are beginning to fear the huge tax bills, spending bills and deficits being created by all the "change" taking place these days. They are beginning to let their reps know, Republican and democrat alike, that they have some serious concerns about all this "change" going on at once and are not sure that is what they voted for last November. Politician who want to be re-elected are beginning to listen to their home bases. This makes for some "interesting and challenging" times for this health care reform "thingy". Interesting quote in today's Wall Street Journal from a LONG TIMR democrat. Under the title, "Obama Needs to 'Reset" His Presidency", Ted van Dyk (VP Hubert Humphrey's ass't in the White House and active in national democratic politics for over 40 years) is quoted as saying "The president we have is very different from the man who campaigned for the office in 2008". You can check the opinion piece out on page A15 of today's Journal. It is not an attack on Obama...it is a well thought out opinion piece from a BIG TIME democrat saying Obama may need to "back off" and slow down a bit for his and his administration's good. Check it out. There is definitely some "change" beginning to occur and it might just not be the "change" Mr. Obama is looking for after promising everything to everybody (except of course to those who actually pay taxes, pay their mortgages, create jobs, etc., etc.).
  2. Well, I am glad to see we have some golfers on the site. Let me be the first to tell you of The SCHOLARSHIP SCRAMBLE sponsored by the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association. The event will be held at Bear Creek (near DFW airport for ease of access to all DFW players) on Monday, OCT. 12th (Columbus day...and the Monday before homecoming!). The unique thing about this tournament is that you will be able to PLAY FREE by raising funds for UNT Scholarships. You can also pay to play. There will be opportunities for tournament sponsors, hole sponsors (no jokes please!), range sponsors and cart sponsors. Set up your own team of four or sign up by yourself. It will be a scramble, so all levels of expertise can have great fun. MORE INFO TO FOLLOW...but, "SAVE THE DATE"....and think about your company as a possible sponsor at some level...and think about signing up to play. It should be a great day to be on the course with other fans of the MEAN GREEN...and MEAN GREEN NATION MEMBERS!!!! Anyone interested???? And, yes, I am the designated "Tournament Director" (YIKES!!! MORE WORK), so if you have questions you can PM me or just ask here as others may have the same question. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  3. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/16...s-votes-health/ If the link work, you will be able to see where the CBO Budget Director states that the proposed health care package will raise costs, not lower them. NIce! Seems I have been hearing from the democrates that it will lower costs.
  4. Nice shot! While I fully believe the intruder got what he deserved, it is a complete shame that this stuff goes on. Why can't people just respect other people's person and property so we don't have to read about this sort of thing? I just do not get it. Some family is in a state of shock that their son was killed while commiting a crime and another family is thanking their lucky stars that they have a son, still alive, because he knew how to handle a fire arm and had the sense to make the right decision about its use.
  5. Man, seems the recent Texas Tech QB's have a tough time "sticking" in the NFL. Glad to see him catch onto a team in Canada so he can show everyone if he can play at the "next level" or not. You never know. He might just "light 'em up" in canda and get a new shot in the NFL. OK, so is it just me, or would some other folks like to see a little Canadian football on TV in these parts????? I would be the ratings are better than the NHL, tennis, golf, poker tournaments and maybe even...dare I say it...soccer. You think?
  6. Beacuse it's fun perhaps. I just liked the irony of it all...you know, Emmitt, police...come on you have to admit.......
  7. OUCH...too bad. Maybe folks just need to "say no" for one season and they would get the idea that they needed to put out a decent product or folks simply would not buy it. I know that would be tough on folks who like to play the game, but if they could just use "last years" version one more year and let EA know they cannot get away with selling garbage. As long as folks buy the garbage, they will keep selling garbage. And, please no Mean Green "negative ninny's" nor Dodge haters need reply!
  8. Just making sure. From you earlier posts, I was wondering if you had some sort of "change"...as my post indicated when I said "if you really believe what you said"...sarcasm, at times, does not come across well in in postings. Mine has also been missed many times. Thanks for clearing that up.
  9. Hits home for a lot of us, but you won't get some of our "friends" to think it is anything but some hard hearted conservative trying to deny women their "rights". I heard a democrat last evening call health care a "right". 'Nuf said!
  10. God, help us, the spelling and grammar police are back at it again. I thought the federal grant for increased grammar/spelling police had expired!
  11. After seeing that list, I need several beers...QUICK! That is one scary list!
  12. Proves you know absolutely nothing about conservatives (if in fact you actually believe that comment).
  13. If it's so bad, why do you buy it? Just wondering....I have never played so don't know, but I hear these types of complaints, seems like every year, yet the games keeps selling big time. So, what's up with that? Is it simply the "best of the bad" or is it just UNT's stuff or what?
  14. OK, come on...we must stop this crazy talk about banning alcohol. You take away my beer and I'm really going to hacked. What's a tailgate event without beer, what's a ballgame without beer, what's a good meal without beer and on and on and on. Beer is a health food that all should embrace. I do believe God was going to write an 11th commandment that was to go something like "Thou Shalt Have Beer" until Mrs. God got mad and took away the remote and his last 6-pack! This talk about the possibility of banning alcohol makes me thirsty...I need a nice pilsner or Heffe right NOW!
  15. Got your attention. Location, location, location.....
  16. Many small businessmen incorporate under sub Chapter S of the IRS code. This allows for corp. profits to flow to the owner and be taxed at the owner's individual tax rate. If they incorporate other than under sub chapter S the corporation would pay income taxes and they would pay individual income taxes on their salary, bonus, etc. A bit of double taxation if you are a small business, one owner sort of operation. In it's simplest definition, that's why sub chapter S was developed...to avoid the possible double taxation. It is, of course, more complex than that, but just keeping it real simple and discussing only one benefit of the sub chapter s provision. As I understand the House proposal on health care...all small businesses with revenues of $250,000 or great would be required to carry health insurance for their employees or pay a fine of between 6-8%. This will certainly cause many small business to stop growing in order to avoid the penalty or requirement to carry health care for their employees, will lead to business failures and loss of jobs throughout the small business sector. And, the small business sector is the "engine" that runs the nation's economy. How's that for hurting the hand that feeds you? Just a poorly thought out proposal that folks are attempting to force upon the American public for the sake of speed. The thing is over 1000 pages long, and like the "cap and Trade Bill" recently passed no congressman has read the thing!!!!! Amazing stuff going on in Washington these days. Is it any wonder that California is about to fall off the fiscal cliff when the state produces political leaders in the ilk of Nancy Pelosi???? P.S. one should probably never try to quote Joe Biden as even he has no idea what he is saying most of the time. He far surpasses Dan Quayle for comedic speaking!!!!
  17. Some really interesting ideas here...I think several have some real merit...and isn't it GREAT to be talking football? GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. OK, stop braggin'....I can see that contented smile on your face...others here are so very jealous!
  19. Interesting definition of genuis you have there Emmitt.
  20. The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: 'Take only ONE . God is watching.' Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, 'Take all you want. God is watching the apples.' Do you think this is how our politicians see things from the lofty heights of D.C.? Take more and more...no one is watching, as they are too busy with the apples. Just wondering....come on now... its non-partisan!
  21. Get there early and enjoy tailgating with the Mean Green Nation! GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. This is simply another example of "pandering to the crowd" that we have seen so very much of (sadly so) in recent months...well, since about the last of January, 2009 that is.......you will all note the lack of any real challenge to the re-writing of history here...even sadder still.
  23. CONGRATULATIONS to Brandon Dickenson and Austin Hollowell who finished second in the fifth annual UNDER ARMOUR OLLEGE BASS ATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP recently held in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Finished second to North Carolina State and head of the other teams in the championship round - NW (LA) State, ontevallo (Ala) and first round leader LA-Lafayette. Way to go MEAN GREEN...you guys can fish! Reel 'em in....great job!
  24. Big Dawg...while I tend to agree with your sentiment about all the "doom and gloomers", I, for one, do not want them to stay home. UNT need rears in the seats and ticket buyers. So, let 'em come and thank them for the support. It is a good chance to "turn their negativism" into something positive. As with most negative folks, they are negative about lots of things and tend to couch it in terms of "realism" to try to convince folks that they just aren't negative by nature. While the football program at UNT has certainly had its challenges in the last few years, it is plain to anyone who will just come out from behind their negative clouds that things are beginning to turn for the better...much better in recent months. have noted my reasons on numerous occasions here on GMG.Com why I think the program is much improved. Perhaps that is because I tend to look at the "bright side" more often than not...it is so very much more enjoyable to be on the positive side...that I see more than just the wins and losses in evaluating the "state of the program" for myself. Yes, I know a program is measured by its won-loss record (and that is to be expected in sport as there are winners and losers in each contest), but to constantly pound on all the negative surrounding the past record is a bit of a "broken record" just skipping around the platter. Anyway, the season is fast approaching, and none too soon for all Mean Green fans, and we will all get to see the on-field improvements. Can't wait. GO MEAN GREN! See you at the Kick-off Cookout on August 1st!
  25. I found this quote to be quite thought provoking. It is worth considering. "You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."* * Adrian Rogers, 1931*
