  1. OK, sorry there is a bit about today's article ... I see it posted below... but, what do you think of the series overall? The comments below make me want to read today's story even closer when I get home. Any other thoughts?
  2. So, no one has mentioned the three article series the Record-Chronicle is doing on the program, the stadium the fan/donor base, etc. I thought the first two were pretty positive given what we normally see from the Record-Chronicle. I will admit to having just skimmed the second one in today's paper, but will read it closely this evening after work. What do some of the other GMG.com posters who see the paper think? Fair reporting? Somewhat positive? What say you? GO MEAN GREEN...could "Good Things" be happening with the Record-Chronicle and the Mean Green"????
  3. Maybe not, but now he is speaking as a coach who has been through the "wars" as a college coach for the last two years...knows a ton more what to expect now from his players, his coaches and the opposing teams. I think he speaks from a much sounder and stronger position knowledge-wise now than the time before his first campaign as Mean Green head coach. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Count me with Charlie nt73...I think Riley will do a fine job and will help (help) lead the Mean Green to at least 5 wins in 2009 to start to move up the win column and back to bowl contention for the Mean Green before he graduates. While he may, in fact, have not seen every defense that can be thrown against him, he is a smart kid, know his position and has played against some of the best whenever he has taken the field as a QB at the level he is playing at the time. I see NOTHING that makes me think that he cannot duplicate that success at the college level. Time will certainly tell, but right now, I think Riley will be just "what the doctor ordered" for the Mean Green offense in 2009. We will see what and what develops as the seasons wear on, but right now...EVERYONE should be 100% behind Riley and the Mean Green. GO MEAN GREEN.
  5. I asked multiple questions during the first RV Q&A...used my real name each time...not all were answered. There is no way that in a one hour event that all questions can be answered. Some are repeat questions, some have really been answered previously in some other question, some there isn't enough time, some come from the same person and they obviously want as many folks as possible to get their question answered...and some they probably choose to not answer due to whatever reason. That's the way it goes..try not to take it personally. They probably did not single anyone out to keep their questions from being answered. For me, I think both RV and Coach Dodge were very open and their answers went a good way in letting folks know what to expect this season. Like another poster mentioned...no way Stoopes, etc. does this and is this open with the general fan bases. If you find anything to complain about in these chats then you are simply looking for something to complain about. My thanks to RV and Coach Dodge...I hope these chats can continue and will add JJ and Coach Stephens, etc. when time is appropriate. BTW...nothing wrong with Mayo on a burger as long as it has cheese too! GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. The website you see here is not the actual finished copy, but it will give you an idea of what the SCHOLARSHIP SCRAMBLE is all about. The great thing about this tournament is that you can PLAY FREE! Just raise a minimym of $250 in donations for UNT scholarships from your friends and family, etc. and you can play free AND receive a gift certificate from the Alma mater Pro Shop. Cool deal. If you want to play and do not want to raise donations, that is fine too...entry fee is $125 player...Bear Creek (East Course), Monday Oct. 12th (Columbus Day Holiday for some)...early morning tee times to get home and enjoy the rest of the day...lunch provided along with gree fees, range, cart, etc. The format is a 4-person scramble...so all can play and have fun...create you own forsome if you want. Sponsorships are available...we need your help to make this a success...Want more info? PM me...Let's Play for a great cause.
  7. And pee wee fotball, and pony league baseball, little league baseball, youth basketball, swimming, etc., etc. If we could just get the parents out of nthe way, everyone would have more fun.
  8. So, your saying if "little Johnny steals a candy bar, that makes it OK for little Mary to do the same thing? In fact, there were many times I disagreed with the way the Republicans were running the show when they had more control. If you knew me at all, you would know that is the case. But, that, EagleD, is not the point here...thge point here is censorship! What the Franking Commission is doing is censorship...from your reply post I assume that is just fine with you as long as it doesn't happen to a liberal democrat, right? Pretty typical of those who claim they are for open government when the other guys have the majority...but seem to not give a darn when they have control...Hypocrites all.
  9. The "stupid" part occurred on the part of the president...should never of opened his mouth about this at all...and especially without the facts...as he admitted to not having in the first place. How could he have NOT seen the problems he was creating by commenting on a very local problem from the bully pulpit of the White House press corps room? A real mistake by the pres in my opinion...maybe he will learn to "change" because of his "big oops" here...hope so.
  10. Saw this story...interesting. They do take their football pretty darn seriously in Bolivia. As they do in the vast majority of the world. Seems olympic gymnists are pretty young too. Perhaps age limits should be set for all professional and international competitive sports. You think?
  11. I like the list and agree that most games are won or lost in the trenches. I wonder if the WR's and TE's might should switch poitions in the listing. Hard to say, but I really think the TE would play a big role in the teams' success. Nothing like converting those 4th and 4 or 5 situations with a flip to the TE...keeps that drive going so the RB's and WR's can make the big yardage plays...just wondering...think Novachek (can't remember the exact spelling...sorry). GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=32856 I hope the above link will work. This is an interesting development in the health care "debate" going on in Congress these days. If you think politics are not at play...think again and read the article attached with the link. Seems Republicans are being censored by the franking commission if the try to use the phrase "government-run health care". Unbelievable, but true...check it out! Amazing stuff...sure love all the transparency and bipartisanship promised by the current president during his campaign and how that's working out in reality. Just what are the democrats afraid of? That the truth about the costs and reduction in benefits that will occur might just get out to the public? Is that why they are trying to cram this thing down the American population;'s throats so fast??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  13. PLENTY COOL!!!!!
  14. Yep, and SMU used to beat TCU all the time. Things can change in the world that is college football. I am thinking things will change for the better for UNT football in 2009. GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR UNT FOOTBALL.* *Note: just thought it was time to get that in as the season is getting closer and closer.
  15. Patterson has done a great job of "upping" the status of the TCU program. Amazing to me that he is still coaching at TCU, but I am sure TCU pays him pretty darn well, and the TCU fan base is certainly more accommodating than say Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Mich., OU, etc. It just might be that Patterson like living in Ft. Worth and playing the role of "program saviour". I can recall when TCU couldn't beat the "U. of the Sisters of the Poor" much less contend for a BCS bowl, etc. The fan base was "less than warm" and turnout was terrible. However, the school...yes, the students and the faculty/staff, seem to have "warmed" to the idea that a good football and athletics program can bring good PR and $$$$$ to the university. Good for TCU. Now, if UNT's student's faculty/staff, etc., etc. (not to mention it's very poor alum support) would "figure it out" I can see UNT making the same sort of transition. Perhaps different challenges for a state university vs a private one, but if TCU can do it...so van UNT. The new stadium will be a VERY big help to UNT. I sure hope we see lots of "rears in the seats" at Fouts this year...on both sides of the stadium...a few rears in the end zone seats wouldn't hurt either...how about $1.00 tickets to the end zones for walk-up ticket buyers on game day? No pre-purchase for $1.00 end zone seats, but game day sales only...how about a few give-a-ways to the pee wee teams in the DFW area...not just Denton...might bring some new fans and get some extra concession sales going...just thinking maybe..... GO MEAN GREEN! COME ON FOOTBALL SEASON.....
  16. untblower...thanks for the "inside" info. Interesting situation...I will agree that a limit on foreign scholarship players may well be in order. How do you develop good young American players if all the scholarships go to foreign players and if our tax dollars support these program at many schools, then should citizens get some priority? Interesting...thanks.
  17. I was able to RSVP for the Cookout and Jon mentioned that he had received my RSVP when we met at the Alumni Mixer a couple of Thursdays ago.
  18. OK, this may have been asked and answered before...but, what's up with college tennis these days? Do no American HS students play well enough to get a DI scholarship to anyplace. I know that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it sure seems that college tennis is dominated by foreign players these days. And, what about scholarships...do foreign players "cost" more for a scholarship standpoint???
  19. Didn't need no stinking fixin'.....and my other brother Darrall said.....
  20. WHAT???? You have to be kidding me...why would someone use a "fake" name? Very strange and very suspect. I am shocked...shocked I tell you. How can I trust anyone any longer???? The shame of it all...it must have something to do with SMU....
  21. Sort of like many of the posts here on GMG.com, right?
  22. I enjoyed the chat with RV...I found it a bit strange that some were using their GMG.com "names" for the chat. What's up with that? No reason to hide your identity on the live chat as unless someone already knows your GMG.com name you would not be giving away "top secrets" by using your real name. Think about that for the next chat with Coach Dodge...why not actually let him know who is asking the question and to whom he is responding. There were some excellent questions...including my favorite from CharlieNT73...nice, very nice. And, I agree...Lonnie if you want to ask the "tough" questions, why not be there for Coach Dodge's live chat...it's next. And, use your real name too...lots of folks would not know you were "The Fake Lonnie", but would appreciate the fact that you had the "boys" enough to ask the type of questions you want. What do you think? It's an open chat, so all are welcome.
  23. Emmitt...you are beginning to become your Avatar! Surely, there is something...something...positive you see in what's happening with the program these days. Something...anything????
