MEAN GREEN FANS...If you are interested in helping to raise scholarship dollars for UNT students and want to get into the spirit of the Army game this season, the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association is currently selling "Tank Army" T-Shirts (those who attended our recent Mixer got a first look at this year's edition T-Shirt). Anyway, we are not being allowed, for what ever reason, to sell the T-Shirts at this Saturday's Kickoff-Cookout as we had hoped (even though we did allow the athletic dept. to sell their raffle tickets at our recent mixer...just saying... ), but if you would like one (or more) of the T-shirts we can have it (them) available for you to pick up at the Mixer. T-Shirts are $12.00 each or 2 for $20.00 just like the Navy game shirts...no rise in price here! If you are interested, just PM me with the number you would like and the size/s and I'll take it from there. Checks or cash accepted...checks payable to Denton Chapter - UNT Alumni Assoc. ALL monies received over actual cost goes to help fund UNT scholarships. If you can and would like to help with this project...PM and you are "good to go". Neither the Chapter nor the Alumni Assoc. itself will receive any proceeds for the T-Shirt sales....all goes to scholarships. Thanks in advance for your support. I know...shameless self-promotion...BUT...It is UNT and UNT FOOTBALL RELATED, right????

Laffer Curve
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Then, you should check out IPI's website at www.ipi.org. You might not like everything you see and read, but they do try to stick to the "policy issues" and keep personalities out of it. In fact, IPI was pretty darn critical of some of McCain's stuff during the campaign...Another of their scholars, Dr. Merrill Matthews actually has a spot on XM radio that plays from time to time and Dr. Matthews is well known as an expert in the health care field. Dr. Matthews had an Op-Ed published in Tuesday's Wall St. Journal as a matter of fact. -

http://spectator.org/archives/2009/07/29/a...ve-breakthrough For the economists in the group...and just for some reminders of how this stuff works...take a look at Peter Ferrara's discussion of the Laffer Curve from the recent Spectator article. By the way Peter Ferrara is a director of entitlement and budget policy for IPI...The Institute for Policy Innovation whic is a policy think tank located in Lewisville, Texas. The web site is www.ipi.org in case anyone is interested in viewing the work IPI does. Enjoy.

WOW, I simply cannot tell you how happy I am to have you on this board. Great to see the optimism from one of our players parents...you are not alone in that optimism among parents of players that I speak with by the way...AND, I definitely agree that this could very well be a turnaround season for the Mean Green. The team definitely has the players that can make it happen this year. I am super excited and ready for the season to Kick-off. Hope to see you at the Kick-Off Cookout Saturday! GO MEAN GREEN...welcome aboard Mr. Mosley!

Greatest Movie Line Ever
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
What in the heck is your problem anyway???? -
OK, the Kickoff Cookout is this Saturday. Who is planning on attending??? I know it is a different time this year, but I hope lots of GMG.com'ers make it to the event...should be another good time for the Mean Green Nation, and it would be great to start the season off with a super crowd to support the program. I'll be there, but my bride have already left for Germany and Noway on another boondoggle trip of her's where I wasn't invited. I think maybe she has a thing for Olaf or Frans or something!!!! Who will be attending the Kickoff Cookout Saturday????? GO MEAN GREEN!

I hope the link works...it was sent to me by another GMG.com member who will reamin 'secret", but it is really funny...enjoy...it's very short and it sure beats the line Rhett Butler said in Gone With the Wind for the best movie line ever. Too funny. Sorry...had to remove the link...didn't work. My bad...ignore the whole thing...it was, however, very funny.

Drc - Article On Asst. Soccer Coach Dani Slavonic
KRAM1 replied to UNTDude's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Absolutely agree. She was a great player for UNT, but will be an even better coach if she chooses to stay in that career field. Great person too...UNT is attracting this level of player for its soccer team on a regular basis these days, and it shows that UNT can compete for players with the Big XII and other higher profile schools. UNT's soccer pragram is far better than many Big XII schools and can compete on the National level. Way to go Coach Hedlund and way to go RV for supporting Coach Hedlund and this excellent program. GO MEAN GREEN! GREAT to have you COACH Slavonic! -
I almost fainted when I saw this...a quote from Helen Thomas the "witch of the east" and one of the the biggest shills for the libs and democrats in congress that the press ever created... I quote Ms Thomas, "Nixon didn't try to do that. They couldn't control (the media). They didn't try. What the hell do they think we are, puppets?... They ought to be hanging their heads in shame". This was none other than Helen Thomas blasting the Obama administration's treatment the media in an interview with CNSNNews.com following her confrontation with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Obama's staged "town hall" event to promote his health care plan - all audience members were invited guests (including democratic party activists) and all questions were pre-selected....as indicated by the most liberal Ms Helen Thomas. Wow, the administration had better be careful...if they hack their shills off too many times, the sharks might turn and eat their own. WOW...never thought I'd live to see the day that "pigs flew" and "hell froze over". Amazing stuff going on in DC these days...sure looks like some cracks are beginning to show in the king's crown these days. Go figure....maybe the American public just can't be fooled for that long after all. We'll see...stay tuned. The fun is only beginning.

http://www.playingforchange.com/episodes/6/Bring_It_On_Home Man, I hope the link I posted here works. If you have not heard of the organization "Playing for Change" you are in for a treat. The first episode they did was with a guy named Roger Ridley and he is on the link I have posted. If it doesn't work, just go to www.playingforchange.com" and look at the episode with Roger Ridley. Yes, this is a group of less than conservative leaning folks trying to effect change through music, but we can all enjoy the great music and the idea behind what these folks would like to accomplish. Enjoy.

So, you don't want anyone to bash Stoops, but you are perfectly fine with the constant bashing of Dodge that you and others do? And, BTW, Dodge has gone to several cities to meet face to face with UNT alums and fans. If you don't know this, you have not been keeping up. Also, do you think travel budgets for coaches are a bit larger in the Big XII than in the SBC and UNT? I recall several instances of Dodge doing "face to faces" with the Mean Green Nation members over his tenure at UNT. In fact, I have been in the audience in several places other than Denton when Dodge was speaking. Does he have to go to Detroit to make you happy? What's wrong with tours around the metroplex and state when you are trying to build a fan base that would actually attend games? Go to Wash. DC and talk to the alums there if you are interested in stadium donations, sure, but hit the metroplex big time if you want to stir up possible ticket buyers and game attendees...fine with me.

I, too, love "No Reservations" and think Bourdain and the show are great. But, you do have to overlook his political comments from time to time. There is no question that he is quite the liberal. No problem, I still think the show is great...He did a bit on Chicago last evening...there was a place on the Southside that serves tamales in hot dog buns with chili and the fixings...Man, great stuff. Now to your questions: 1) It depends. What's at stake when you set the priorities and just why have the cities fallen into such shape? Is it because they sat on their rears and didn't modernize, adapt to changing economics, elect corrupt politicians (can you spell Detroit, etc.), create social welfare programs that became entitlements and could not be sustained as the area decayed? Answer is not so easy as a "yes or no"...I say it depends. And, as is the case with some places, they can pull themselves out of the mess without a gov't bailout that will just make the problem worse in the long run. Baltimore may be a good example of a city on the edge that is taking steps to move forward...perhaps even Oklahoma City could be an example...OK City has done a good bit lately to "up it's image"...other cities should take note. 2) I don't care if the citizens who live there do not care. Keep electing corrupt politicians and keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...if so, I say...let 'em rot. If you take the steps to work your way out and find ways to get your citizens involved in the make-over, yep, give them all the help possible. 3) I doubt that those areas have a big labor problem with illegal immigrants. many have a problem with labor because they are rust belt cities whose industries were controlled by labor unions unwilling to modernize and get ready to compete in the new economies of the world, and who had executive boards too interested in their own welfare than the welfare of their companies health, and who were taxed to death and found it harder and harder to compete on the global stage. Just a few thoughts...it is past the time when folks simply ask for gov't handout after handout...time for a "hand up". Americans have always shown a "can-do" spirit when the going is rough and I have no doubt if given the opportunity, the rust belt cities can and will re-invent themselevs and prosper once again. Get the politicians out of the way and let the creative folks in all these areas get after it...and yes, that means the "hippies too".

Where Did It All Go Wrong
KRAM1 replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
But, did the press pick up on these comments from Mr. Biden? Where are the SNL and Letterman skits??? I wonder what would have been said if that were Sarah Palin, George Bush, etc.? And, there are still folks out there who think the media is not biased toward the democratic party. You have just got to be kidding me. -
drex, senility setting in already now that you have moved to the hinterlands??????

Where Did It All Go Wrong
KRAM1 replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Maybe it's because her teleprompter broke...Oh, wait...wrong politician who has to use a teleprompter even at press conferences...oh, wait, the guy doesn't have actual press conferences he has "set up question" conferences with the press. That being said, I never felt that Palin's best attribute as a politician/candidate was her ability to speak in public. But, it was "refreshing" to see someone take on the media from the public pulpit. Is she "done" as a politician? Time will tell. I really do not think her career will be determined by what we think on GMG.com, but "our" thoughts and comments might just be a good sample of what the overall public thinks...seems even in her home state of Alaska the "jury is out" on her "staying power". We'll see...should be fun. -
I received the annual OSU Alumni calendar in the mail yesterday...along with a nice new PLASTIC Life member card (already had one, but they updated them...I put plastic in caps because I have been after the UNT Alumni Assoc. to provide a much nicer membership card for their Life Members...the paper ones are a bit cheesy and say low-rent to me, but I digress...I also remember a great UNT Alumni calender that the master drex used to have a hand in creating every year....), and in with the calendar was a letter that could very easily apply to UNT... It starts out, "One of my favorite sayings about the days ahead is that there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen and those who wonder what happened. We have a distinct window of opportunity to help shape the future of our university....." It goes on, but you get the drift. I would ask everyone on this board to think about which of the three types of people you are when it comes to supporting OUR UNIVERSITY...UNT! With the stadium and hotel project developing, with the athletic program trying to reach for the next level, with the overall university reaching for a higher profile, what position will you take? There are three choices as listed above that pretty much cover it. Take a moment and think about where you are...are you really just trying to find reasons to "not contribute" because it gives you some form of comforting excuse? I hope not...UNT needs your support now more than ever as it is really on the road to "bigger and better". As the second DRC article pointed out, you do not have to have "Goldfield money" to support UNT, you just have to have the "want to". Think it over. GO MEAN GREEN!
-
I agree...Coach Hedlund has done a great job of "selling" the things UNT has to offer and in building a very solid soccer program at UNT. That is exactly what Coach Dodge and his staff are trying to do with the football program, what JJ has had some success doing with men's basketball, what Coach Stephens is working to accomplish with women's basketball and on and on through softball, volleyball, golf, track, etc. Overall, the athletic program at UNT is much more solid now, across the board, then I think it has ever been. While football is the dept's "poster child" it is not the only program at UNT. And, when the football program shows positive progress this season...and it will...recruiting local talent and recruiting against some of the "bigger boys and girls" will only get better for UNT. GO MEAN GREEN.

The sole reason this became the story that it did, and the reason it is still getting press is that Obama had to open his mouth. No fault of anyone other than Obama that this "anthill" became a "mountain". Maybe he has learned something here and can "change". And, before Quoner says something...I meant "anthill".
-
Maybe they are trying to "make up" and play nice after getting a few "not so happy" phone calls, emails, etc. from folks who realize what an positive economic engine the stadium and hotel complex will be for Denton. Maybe, just maybe they have decided that what is good for UNT is often very good for Denton. But, of course I could be dreaming. You have a valid point there, drex. GO MEAN GREEN!
-
But, it was so far down the list, Mr Perfect, and I thought it would be getting so much more attention...and it says nothing about it being a series of three stories....When I grow up I want to be perfect just like Mr. Quoner...please Mother, may I???? How about giving a fella a change to say "oops" before you go into your oh, so smug routine???? Geeeeeeeezzzzzz!
