  1. The ngativity of some of the posters continues to amaze me. However, it will be just that much more enjoyable to see that turn to positive when play begins. No, I do not expect a national top 10 pragram, but from what I have seen, from those close to the program that I have talked to, from the spring game and practice I saw, from the quality of quite a few of the newer players, from the added experience of both coaches and players and from the new coaches, I sense positive vibes. This team appears to me to be more "together" than it has been going back to the last couple of years of Dickey's stint at UNT. You add all that up...icluding, yes, a quality QB like Riley, and in my book that has the makings of a turn around season for the Mean Green. Be negative if you must...but don't try to lay it off as "realism" or "pragamtism" or anything else. It is what it is...a negative attitude. OK, that does not make someone a "bad person" or a "bad fan", but it does seem a bit strange...so be it. However, just be in the stands for the first home game and leave the negative attitude at home...come to cheer the Mean Green and "look for the positives"...they are there if you care to open your eyes and minds and look for them. They should be very easy to see....if you aren't looking for just the negatives, that is. GO Mean Green...keep those posts coming and fill Fouts field for home opener... GO MEAN GREEN!
  2. Yep, my sniper nephew currently deployed in the "big sandbox" will be glad to know it's over...can't wait to tell him that all those Taliban shooting at him really aren't shooting because the war is over...OK, maybe in Irag because the Iraqi gov't says they can do it by themselves now,,,sure, right...Hamas, etc., etc. still will have a lot to say about that along with an assortment of others.... Can it be a diet coke? Interesting perspective by the WA Times....Hmmmm
  3. Two things....no, you do not have to be good...a golfer that shhots in the high 90's can often be the hero when it comes to a scramble format...sink a critical putt, hit the best drive for the foursome, hit a tight approach sot and you are the Man! So, sign up and play...it will be for a great cause and it will be fun... Cost is $125 per player/$500 p[er team...BUT...You can play free!!! Check it out on the links I sent or send me a PM (private message) here on GMG.com and I will email you the tournament brochure and info...thanks for asking and thanks for considering the tournament...IT IS FOR A GREAT CAUSE...each and every dollar made goes to scholarships...the chapter will not keep ANY of the proceeds for operating expenses or anything else...all goes to scholarships. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Flyer is correct in a couple of areas here...the develoopment of Razor Ranch has been delayed due to financing and some work has re-strated...Denton, since I moved here in 1965, has been anti-development and anti-business...the examples are so numeropus as to be absurb...drilling does no greater harm to kids than a major highway next to a park, etc. Pklaying the kid card is like a certain president playing the race card...pretty big stretch. No offense meant, but Denton does all it can to shoot itself in the foot every time a bit of development wants to try to do something in Denton....I guess Denton would much prefer the major tax burden to remain on the homeowners...NICE...
  5. Now, that's some serious cash! Got to hand it to the development folks and the fan base, alums, etc. for the Tigers.
  6. There is a difference between an optimist and a pessimist who cloaks themselves in a disguise by calling themselves a pragmatist. Nope, I'm keeping my "pom poms" thank you very much...and, just in case anyone is wondering...this WILL be a great season to be a Member of the Mean Green Nation...it's REDEMPTION TIME for the MEAN GREEN! GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Hey, it's pre-season. Five wins...I wrote the prediction on the Mean green poster at the Barber Shop in downtown Denton for all to see...Didn't really have enough space to mention the possibility of 6 with a bit of luck. What, some of you folks thought I'd predict 12-0 for the Mean Green? Come on now...
  8. You are an economist? Keyensian economist perhaps????? Now I see............
  9. Agree 100% GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. Did I metion that you could play FREE????
  11. Just wondering...how many Cowboy games did you go to (where you actually paid for the ticket) before the new stadium? Like you appear to be, I am not the biggest jerry Jones fan around, but unlike the government, this is private money and for-profit business. And, like the guy or not, Jerry knows how to run a professional sports team. You have to give him that.
  12. Way to go Talley...I'll bet he could have won the 1st Annual Mean Green Cookout 5K. What do you think...great news...well done. GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. A college town...something the UNT campus could really use...such areas are great for "game days", out of town visitors, locals to spend some $$$$, etc., etc. Was hoping the Fry Street area would develop into a bit of a "campus corner" for UNT...still might. I'll keep my fingers crossed...but, there are always the "not in my backyard" folks around who seem to want to stop most any development where ever it may be in Denton. We'll just have to wait and see.
  14. Dodge WILL be back...UNT gets 5 wins in 2009. Wins over: Ball St., Ohio, ULM, W. Ky and Army. With a little luck UNT picks up # 6 over ULL. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. That's ONE!
  16. Don't know how Ford would have done without the additional taxpayer funded "bailout scheme"...the administration felt they needed to spend billions more of the taxpayers hard earned money on another hand out program before anyone could find out. How's that "job creation through stimulus money" working out? Oh, I forgot jobs were "saved" that would have been eliminated without the stimulus money from the taxpayers...and the administration knows that how? Merlin had nothing on these guys for "magic and slight of the hand"....
  17. If I am not mistaken...that's the front of the card.
  18. OK, for all you golfers out there...the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association is sponsoring a SCHOLARSHIP SCRAMBLE on Monday OCTOBER 12th (Columbus Day Holiday) at Bear Creek Golf Course (East Course) with a morning start time. Absolutely 100% of all proceeds (over cost) goes to UNT student scholarships. This is the Chapter's main scholarship fund raiser for the year, so we definitely need players and sponsors. I can forward anyone interested a tournament brochure via email (or snail mail) and I will post a web link to the tournament web site here...hopefully. If you would like a brochure just PM me with your email address or mailing address and I'll get it to you ASAP. The great thing about this tournament is that YOU CAN PLAY FREE! Check out the web site and find out how. Basically, you get your friends and family to sponsor you in the tournament with a scholarship donation (the brochure and link explain this and the amounts needed) and you play free. How great is that? All the work in obtaining those donations is done through the web site. Let me know via PM if you would like a brochure. If you are not a player...you can sponsor me if you want to help raise funds for UNT scholarships. Just go to the web site and clink into the sponsor area, put in my name as your player and there you go. I hope some fellow GMG.com posters will play and/or help raise some scholarship dollars. Thanks for the support.... GO MEAN GREEN...GO ALUMNI...FORE!!!!!! See web link below. http://www.miraclegolfconcepts.com/eventdetail.php?id=312
  19. As I understand it, there will be several options for game watching parties in several locations in the area...including, of course, our good friends at The Pourhouse. Stand by...the word will be out soon...
  20. Optimism is spreading its positive vibes all over this site. Be still my heart. I think there is much to be positive about and if you attended the Cookout Saturday you felt that optimism from both the coaches and the players. Looks to me like this team and staff is ready for some "payback" and "redemption". Looking forward to a much better season than the last couple. I still say 5 wins with a good shot at 6. GO MEAN GREEN! Less than 30 days away...bring it on!
