How did you get to watch practices from out in West Texas?

Great way to build connections with this school. Maybe pick off a decent player or two or three.

Fans To Vote For Flag Design Outside Apogee Stadium
KRAM1 replied to meangreen15's topic in Mean Green Football
Nope...have the guy who invented and created this flag raise it the first time...none other than our very own great DREX! -
Glad they aren't playing at Apogee. I have no interest in seeing UNT get clobbered by some nationally ranked team at home. Must win at home. But, for those of you who do want to see such, hang in there...some ranked Power 5 team will eventually show up.

We need Littrell and Company to find a way to beat SMU...that's what we need.

Yes and no...I was able to purchase, as could anyone else, a Nike polo that all the football coaches wore last season. So, actually some yes...some no. And, not all other schools do this...I know Oklahoma State has several items available, but not all the gear coaches wear. Sometimes staffs order gear just for their wear. Not arguing that we "should" be able to purchase, just pointing out that it is not that unusual. Good luck...hope you are able to find the shirt you want. The more Mean Green gear on the market the better...even better, the more Mean Green gear being bought and actually being worn!

DRC: Echols-Luper transferring, has interest in UNT
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Are you saying that all decent players in football are kids with problems and that you can't win without "problems" on your team? Since when is it part of a scholarship program to take known "problems" just so you can try to mold their character? I get the molding character part of coaching and I think it is a really good and honorable thing to do, but to try to "resurrect" a player with known challenges is "above and beyond" for me and would seem to take coaching energy away from a lot of other kids to monitor closely a known problem. Choices...people make choices. Problem is that we allow athletes to get chance after chance after chance which does more to perpetuate the problems than fix them in my book. Anyway, I always appreciate an actual coaches perspective. So, thanks for jumping in here. I do realize you know much more about this stuff than I do. Just hope a program does not have to take these kids to win. I hold out hope that there are plenty of "Mason Fine" good kids out there who can also play. Maybe not, but I hold out that hope. -
Excellent...thank you!

DRC: Echols-Luper transferring, has interest in UNT
KRAM1 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Sorry....nope...pass. Don't need the headaches. Don't need kids you have to monitor constantly to see if they have open warrants or arrests. Just not my "cup of tea". Tired of seeing problems get chance after chance after chance just because they play a sport. Hope it works out well for this young man.....somewhere other than UNT. -
Loryn Goodwin....former UNT...former Butler....former UTSA player has now signed to play at Oklahoma State. This has to be one of the most "traveled" women's basketball players I have ever seen. One must wonder why it is that she is now set to play for her fourth university. I know some here blamed our then head basketball coach for her leaving. If it is coaching, this player has certainly found a lot of "challenging" coaches. I simply have a hard time understanding all these transfers. Here's hoping she finds her place at OSU...heaven knows OSU needs some players on their women's side.

NCAA is too busy NOT giving penalties to and reviewing player waivers approvals for Power 5 schools to deal with such. -
Well...great, but I need your address. PM me with your address and I'll take care of you.

Happy 4th of July to the great Mean Green Nation. We are just about a month away from our event. Still plenty of time to grab a partner and sign up for the Corn-Hole Tournament. Shaping up tp be a fun event that won't take all your Saturday either. Come enjoy the fun!

Gotta give the guy an A for" Atta Way to Go"! The team is really working hard under our new strength and conditioning folks. New attitude among the returning players as well. Sure hope all the work pays off on the court this season...I am betting it will.

For those attending the Forth of July fireworks show at Apogee this Tuesday evening, I just wanted to say that I will be there with RAFFLE TICKETS IN HAND in hand and available if anyone would like to purchase a chance to win two season sideline tickets to the 2017 UNT home football season or to simply make a donation to this alum and her Olympic qualifying efforts. Raffle tickets are $10 each and we are only selling 100. So your chances are much better than in most raffles of this kind. And, sure, you might already have season tickets, but if you win you could give them to a friend or neighbor or fellow alum who does not buy season tickets. Maybe create a new season ticket buyer for the future. I will be in the Club area, but would be more than happy to meet you anywhere in the stadium to complete the purchase. I will definitely "come to you" as they say in the fund-raising world. You can let me know here by posting or you can PM me through GoMeanGreen.com or you can call me or you can send me an email. I am not hard to find and many of you already know how to find me. :-)

Alumni Association has nothing to do with it...did you contact the athlete department? The posters have been out for some time. If you want one I can go by and pick one up for you and mail it to you. Happy to do so. Just let me know.

Here Is What Recruiting Success Would Look Like
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
My goal would be to have the players we DO recruit win football games, keep their grades up, be involved in no off field legal situations, be role models for other athletes and represent UNT is a positive light. Not asking much, huh? Please note...nowhere did I mention being seen as a "star rated" athlete before ever playing a down of college football. But, I understand the point others are trying to make about recruiting. Just don't much care until I see them play. Or, where some of these "higher rated" athletes transfer to after year one or two at their "chosen" places. :-) -
I just don't understand the angst over playing Liberty based on its founder and philosophy. Based on it being perceived by some as a "lesser" athletic program OK, but the other...I don't get it. It is a football game. No one is trying to "convert" anyone to the Jones philosophy or to being more "conservative". It is a football game...period. I recall the days folks said similar things about ORU and BYU. Anyone wonder if the Liberty crowd is thinking why they should be playing such "liberal" schools as UNT? Highly doubtful as they are trying to do the same thing UNT is trying to do...build a winning program and GET NOTICED on the larger national stage. And...more to the point, this series with Liberty seems to be part of a bigger scheme to "improve" UNT's schedule of out OOC games. Like everyone else, I am waiting to see how this all develops, but am still hearing this Liberty series is just part of a larger plan. We will see, of course, given time. Anyone ever seen the Liberty campus? I have...much more impressive than I imagined it would be. Pretty good size and modern. I also think folks should not brazenly put the Liberty game in the "win column" too soon. It should be a very competitive game. The Liberty Alums and administrators are throwing lots of money at that program right now.

Indiana Coach gets a $125K bonus if IU doesn't schedule weak teams.
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Interesting point made by Coach McCasland to me this last week...all CUSA teams' RPI's fall once conference play begins due to the quality of the conference teams. He really thinks the conference is better than it's rating, but hopes as UNT improves...and other conference teams improve...RPI's might increase during league play and CUSA can become more than a "a bid league". His examples were, of course, Middle and Western who often have decent ROI's in OOC play, but see their ROI's drop once conference play begins. BTW...he is pretty positive about seeing a nice win total improvement this year! -
Just got word today of two more teams set to play! Appreciate these folks a great deal. We are building to a really fun event. Come be part of it!
