  1. A few????? Way to many, Lifer...way too many. Are the Cowboys sacrificing "quality" people to try to put a winner on the field? I guess we'll see about that. Short term solution effort that seems to always turn around and bite you in the tail. If Coach Gundy is "taking a risk" with some of his players, personal quality-wise, he will surely pay a dear price in the not so distant future.
  2. Wow, you that starved for entertainment? Isn't reading through this stuff once enough for you?
  3. Yet another media type with no bias at all, right? Fair and balanced...did they forget that part of the program at UNT? Just kidding...goes along with the idea that the school paper might want to look a bit closer as to whether it should support or knock its very own athletic dept. How can a guy miss the importance of football on a campus such as UNT's? Maybe he found some "funny stuff" in the creek beds he ran through during his days on the cross country team, kept some, and is now smoking it while wearing his home made tin foli hat! OK, I jest. But, seriously, no matter how flawed this guy's thinking is (IMO), he is a college student trying to make a "journalistic" splash. Seems being critical always gets the "press" these days. He's just playing to the crowd and probably thinks a bit highly of his own self and abilities at this stage in his life. He trying, right? GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Not good news if you are a Cowboy fan...got to wonder what the real story is here..will probably find out "later". This guy was penciled in as the TE starter for the Cowboys.
  5. Quoner...so you liked that so much you took it as your own? I am flattered.
  6. The Tournament has been postponed. If you were thinking about playing or supporting a player in this scholarship fundraiser...we thank you...The Chapter is hopeful that the tournament can be staged at another time/date that would work much better for our potential sponsors and players. If you have any questions or comment, please feel free to PM me through GMG.com.
  7. Lone Star and Pearl Lite.....however, my favorite inexpensive beer when I was an undergraduate at UNT was whatever someone was buying for me! Free Beer = GREAT BEER to a college undergrad, right? Be honest.....
  8. In my opinion, the "Daily", preparing students for careers or not, could do a better job in supporting the university's athletic department. Why would such stories/reviews/articles with a more positive slant, not be good ways to teach? Do you have to be negative for it to be "good teaching"? Just wondering. Not asking for a bias, just some stories or reviews indicating that attending games is a great part of the UNT experience and that if you hadn't tried it in awhile...well, maybe you should. Very inexpensive date...and the tailgating is great too. Student in the crowd type of article perhaps. Oh, well, maybe one must be negative to be in the "media" business these days... Just saying...the "School Paper" is part of the school, right? I just see no harm in the paper trying to help the athletic dept. fill the stadium...much like student papers from the other universities I have attended. But, again, my attendance was a few year ago, so perhaps today that just isn't "cool" and like the national media you have to do "Watergate" type stories and "in depth" deep and serious stuff all the time. Could be.....seems odd.
  9. UNT surprises its critics with a strong defense giving up 17 points to Ball State while the offense wind the battle of Texas QB's with 24 points. So, mark it down...kool-aid in hand but not spiked...until after the game in a victory celebration... UNT - 24 Ball State - 17 Book it Danno! GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. Those that can do...those that can't get PAID to make predictions. Snore! Unless you are wired into your local bookie, do you really pay attention to what any of these guys have to say? Some can be fun reads, but seems have some sort of team or conference bias that they really do not want you to know about, but which come through loud and clear to most folks. Anyway....I'd love to get paid to do that sort of thing and not have anyone take me serious either. Pretty much like at home with the bride. GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. WAY COOL STORY...thanks for sharing it with us. GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. SUMG...anything said of note? Any thing mentioned that you might could relay to us "out of Denton working stiffs" who can't make a noon show??? Great to see the crowd at 50-60. I hope it gets even larger as the season wears on...would more than likely mean that the Mean green is winning and folks are jumping aboard! GO MEAN GREEN.
  13. Radical indeed. I think TD/RV have spoken with the UNT paper. Never ceases to amaze me how folks associated with UNT and the Denton area do not see the benefits to all in getting behind this program. Big "excuse" and excuse is exactly what it is, is often that the town's business folks "can't play favorites" of UNT over TWU...so, result is...they do nothing. In talking with several TWU folks...both athletic related and academic...they have absolutely no problem at all if businesses want to support UNT athletics. For some odd reason, they seem to realize that what is good for TWU and UNT is good for Denton and vice versa. Amazing concept, isn't it? GO MEAN GREEN...FILL FOUTS FIELD!
  14. I found the little note in the Dallas Morning News today both interesting and telling....It said SMU was about 1000 tickets shy of a sellout for its first home game against SFA. WOW, if SMU can do it, i think UNT should be able to fill Fouts for EVERY home game. It will be interesting to see the "mix" in the SMU turnout...students vs townies, etc. Also will be interesting to see if the folks actually come to the game...sellout or no...they need the folks to show up to make a good 1st game impression. Hey, sounds a bit like UNT, right? We need folks...students included, to show up for the games...UNT needs rears in the seats....let's fill Fouts!!!! BTW...that family deal for the game is really a good deal if you have kids and want to see some "live" college football. Just saying...it's a lot less expensive than a dinner out and a babysitter...come on, great family "date". GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. As for Houston...again, check the Alumni website...watching parties have been set up around the state by the Alumni Assoc. I think both Houston and Austin are included. Just go to the Alumni site...I had the list but cannot get my hands on it at this time. Good luck...GO MEAN GREEN
  16. Stillwater, Oklahoma...a small town that LOVES...absolutely LOVES the local University and all things OSU. A town that turned out over 7000 (population54,000) for this year's fan appreciation day and that sells 40,000+ tickets to each home game a town that had over 300 show up for the first practice in pads (I was there, so I saw the crowd 1st hand). And, by the way, there is NO garden spot in all of Oklahoma! If only Denton would support the Mean Green to half the extent Stillwater does its Cowboys! Ever been to Stillwater on Game Day? It's the type of atmosphere that i think denton should have...businesses flying OSU flags, windows painted, people all over campus, people packed into all the OSU campus shops and restaurants, etc., etc. And, by the way, the hotels/motels are packed...seems a good tax revenue day to me for Denton to consider. GO MEAN GREEN!
  17. I'll be at Fox and Hounds in Lewisville...as far as Austin is concerned...I believe the Alumni Assoc. has set up a watching party in Austin...just cannot recall where...go to the Alumni website and I am sure you will find out where in Austin the watch is to be...And, for all you local area "Couch sitters"...what's up with that? Why not re-consider and join your GMG.com and Mean Green Nation "brothers and sisters" in making a bunch of noise at a local establishment who actually supports the Mean Green. Thanks to all those "establishments" who support the Mean Green and are hosting a Ball State watch party....you rock! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  18. In a nutshell...NO! he has already practiced with the team, so I assume his rehab is over...or all but over. Torn ACL's are bad injuries to anyone and any athlete, but many many recover quite well...I, too, have seen many soccer players return from such injuries at the college level to be just as quick and just as fact as before. Rehab'ing these days is not at all like it was in the "dark ages" when I played a bit of football in HS. My more "concern" is on the academic side. I am hearing out of OSU that academics did not seem to be a big priority for Cole. I hope that, too, is behind him. I think the coaching staff probably did an excellent job of checking out both the ASCL and the academic "issues", and I, for one, am happy to see young Mr. Cole on the roster. OSU has plenty of WR's to choose from...UNT needs a WR that can stretch the field and this kid looks to be just the ticket! Welcome to the Mean Green and welcome home! Nice to have you back south of the Red River where you belong!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN...and thank you Coach Dodge for keeping up with those good TX HS coaching connections....
  19. Anyone on GMG.com interested in helping support scholarships? If you can't play you can always sponsor a player. I have agreed to play and could certainly use your help as sponsors...PM me and I'll tell you how you can help. I know we have several folks on this board who are golfers and might want to play and many others who support UNT...so how about some help in securing scholarship dollars for some UNT students. Donations can be at any level and I mean that. I've had a $20 donation in sponsorship from a great Mean Green fan, so anything you might could do would help a good bit. Every cent in proceeds goes to the scholarship fund...so.....who might be up for helping out? Tournament is October 12th...Monday before homecoming Saturday at UNT...what a great way to "kick-off" homecoming activities, right? You get to play some great golf and help UNT students...all at the same time. What's better than that? OK< no smart answers to that question...I can see them coming as I type... Go Mean Green...
  20. GREAT STUFF...Good things are happening for GMG.com.....top notch! I really appreciate all you guys do...
  21. I'm with SUMG here...what's up with the Sunday afternoon games during NFL season???? Sure attendance is not great during the December games, but Sunday afternoon? Oh, well...GOOD news that the schedule is out...some good match-ups OC...and it's great to see the schedule...at least this much of it...GO MEAN GREEN! I'll be there with the bride in my "usual seats"....
  22. Just had a conversation with a friend of mine who is a big SMU supporter. He said that there are rumblings at SMU (getting louder and louder) that June Jones and the "powers that be" are beginning to butt heads over academic standards and the feeling that some are just not willing to move past the "Death penalty" days at SMU. Hmmmmmm...imagine that, a coach whose career depends upon winning football games is concerned that he might not be playing with a level field. Imagine...and who might not have seen this coming? JJ is not your "run of the mill" sit back and take it kind of coach. He has had too much success as a head coach to let his legacy get damaged due to a stint at SMU...especially if he is losing out on kids he thinks could turn that program around. True or not...we will all be able to see where this goes. My friend's info came from a source very close to the football program at SMU....or so he said. We'll see. Gee, so sorry to hear this about the SMU program...yeah, right! What I can say with certainty is....GO MEAN GREEN>
  23. Damage control it appears. But, good for them for responding to our "concerns" and for letting folks know they do, indeed, want to support the Mean Green. I would imagine that if he had it to do over again, the UT "stuff" would not have appeared. But, it does tell you just a little about what some local merchants think about the support the students, administration, alums and local residents give UNT. I don't think this sort of "oops" would have happened in may other college towns. The fact that it wasn't checked and was not seen as a problem says more about local support for the team and what is seen as "not a problem" than it does about the businesses seemingly non-interest. If the locals and students, etc. really turned out and supported UNT like they should, well, I am guessing the site would reflect a UNT watch party. I, for one, am trying to do my part to make sure this sort of thing stops happening in Denton. I will definitely give them a shot and see...cold beer, good food and support for UNT is all I need to spend some $$$ with them as I try to do with as many local businesses as I can..... GO MEAN GREEN
  24. Don't the coaches do the recruiting in volleyball? Or, is this a case of the coach not having "her players" on board as yet? Much like women's basketball was and, for that matter, football. Can someone much more familiar with the volleyball situation clue me in on the coach's tenure, record at UNT, etc., etc.?
  25. Something this fan board has never before been accused of doing!
