  1. So far, T. Boone has not made unwarranted "demands" on the program , and from my sources in Stillwater, they say he is pretty pleased with things...BUT, that can change as we all know. I wonder why folks with no tie or interest in OSU seem so concerned about what T. Boone might have to say about the program at OSU? Seems to me their focus might be better directed toward their own program. BTW...I would imagine that there would be very few GMG.com folks who would be unhappy if it were UNT that Mr. Pickens was lavishing with his $$$ rather than OSU...just saying. As far as the "recruits" are concerned...I have no clue. I would imagine that the compliance folks at OSU have either predetermined the chat was fine or will have something to say about it....All that Pickens $$$ sure didn't help during the Houston game, did it? First road trip of the year for the Cowboys this weekend against Texas A&M. Should be a good game and we'll see if the Cowboys can play away from Stillwater. Now, let's focus on the Mean Green. The "real" important program in these parts!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!! I would hope UNT builds its program to the point where the OSU's and other Big XII teams would fear playing in Denton!!!! Can happen.....
  2. drex...excellent point!
  3. I was very disappointed in the play of Romo yesterday. I actually think he single handed "lost" that game for the Cowboys. He was "off" with his throws all game, made some poor choices on his reads, about got Roy Williams cut in half, fumbled and threw the picks. Now, that being said...what was up with the second half play calling? Seven rushes in the second half...Is it Romo or is it Garrett that is overrated the most????? Romo has the physical skills to be a consistent winner in the NFL, but does he have the "smarts" to be one? I am really beginning to wonder... As for Riley...well, Riley will be just fine. He has not played as #1 long enough to have his abilities questioned or compared to Romo in any way...time will tell and I think Riley will be just fine... GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. Will be interesting to see how the media plays this one and what the "other" comedy talking heads do with it...for me, I think Letterman will feel no falloout to his career and the whole "affair" will quickly be dismissed. Besides, he needs to write another Palin joke. What a jerk!
  5. Yet another example of the "special" rules for gifted athletes.....what's new about this? The coach is simply doing what many coaches who have misplaced their ethics and valuse for the sake of winning have been doing for years.....so, what's new and why is this a shock to anyone? It would have been a bigger shock if they actually did hold the kid accountable.
  6. Just the latest in the "planning" by the city of Denton. You know...don't look into these matters up front or in the beginning of a project...like the challenges with the Loop 288 project that were "discovered" AFTER the project began...just wait until you can delay the project and look into some potential challenges. Denton is like the old mule...they wait until they are hit in the head with a brick before they actually plan and do basic research. Amazing stuff the cityn government and staff we have here in big beautiful denton. Once again, the city displays its lack of basic planning skills! Good Grief.
  7. Just wait until baseball arrives...I am sure they will upgrade the "facilities" at that point....you know...because baseball is such a big revenue generator and all.
  8. If there is one thing I am certain about, it is that Coach DeLoach will get the D playing up to his expectations. The guy can flat coach, and, for me, I think UNT is lucky to have him on staff once again! If you cannot see improvements in the defense already you simply are not looking. It will only get stronger as the season progresses and stronger next year, etc. as well. Good to see the article about Coach D. GOOD THINGS are happening with the UNT defense these days! GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. Called and renewed my season tickets today...GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. College ladies should never have issues with scoring! Now, college men..that's another issue.
  11. I know for a fact that some of the players do read this board.
  12. This team has already shown "on the field and in game situations" to be so improved over the last two that I find it humorous to see folks wanting to "surrender" at this point after a 1 point double OT loss to Ohio. How many times did many say "I just want UNT to be in the game in the 4th quarter"...well, not only "in the game" in the first two but 1-1. While I would definitely agree that it would be even better to be 2-0 heading into the Alabama game, I have seen nothing that would dampen my belief that this squad will have a vastly improved record including conference wins by seasons end. I predicted 5-7 with a decent chance at 6-6...I stand by that...yes, even with the injuries we have and the 1-point loss to Ohio. It has been great to see the progress this team...and the coaching staff for that matter...have made this season. GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. Did PV A&M play a game Friday evening as well? Don't know their schedule. If so, OK, if not...still a screw-up in scheduling. As far as the tournament...everyone is playing on the same rest pretty much, so it "evens out". If PV A&M played a Friday evening game, then OK...still, I would not look to do that sort of thing...wet field cannot be blamed and made no difference since both teams were playing on the same field...UNT, being by far the better squad, should have won that game even playing their reserves. I think the big win over Baylor the evening before had much more to do with the loss when you schedule back to back like that. I understand about tournament back-to-backs. By the way...when did you paly at UNT? I have lots of great memories being around some of those men's teams...some of the best was when UNT played (AND WON) SMU's tournament...that was the best! Ladies will rebound and will have another great year...just hate to see a loss to PV A&M on the ledger when it didn't have to be.....GO MEAN GREEN!
  14. Interesting replies from some indicating "cheapness" and "it's still a good deal"...did you take the time to actually read my post? I sometimes wonder...I, too, indicated that the new price was still a "good deal", that the food was "good" and the company better. Just wondering where anyone got the idea anyone was trying to be "cheap"? And, it was my opinion that one had to be a donor to the Mean Green Club of a certain level to get into the Deck in the first place. Food being a bit of a "perk" for the donor base. Just noted a 60% increase...and, by the way, the food providers do, at times, "take a loss" on the deal "on purpose" as a donation of sorts to UNT. They can write it off on their taxes as they do other civic donations of food/service, etc. It's a great way for local businesses to help the program, get a tax benefit and get their product in front of folks who might want to do business with them in the future because they support UNT or because the folks enjoyed their product. Advertising as some might say. It does work. Anyway...in case one reads this far...see you on the Deck.
  15. Hey, just wondering if anyone else noticed the 60% increase in the cost of the pre-game meal on the Deck????? Went from $5 last year to $8 this year. A 60% increase is "interesting" in my opinion. Not that it isn't still a good deal and plenty fun before a game, but I did notice some folks decided not to buy the food and just enjoy a beer or two and the great company of other members of the Mean Green Nation. Maybe the price increase goes along with the info SUMG gave us on the cost of the "official" UNT tailgate area tents in the area where the March-In takes place. I wonder if the same cost increase will be in place for the basketball games this year? Seems everything is going up except my income. I guess we need to pay for that new stadium. If I thought the extra 60% went to the stadium I wouldn't give it a second thought. Anyway, it's still a good deal, the food is good and the company is even better. See you on the Deck! GO MEAN GREEN!
  16. Is there a scheduling HOF??? Who knew?
  17. I have plenty of confidence in Nathan Tune as the Mean Green's QB. Yes, he threw the int..too bad, but I prefer to focus on what he did after that int. Great job bringing the Mean Green back and getting UNT in position to win in OT. Riley will be back, but this does give Nathan a chance to get his "feet wet" in a significant way and all the better for the Mean Green for his having the opportunity. The kid can play...so, it's time to get behind Nathan as the starter for as long as he has the job. At this point we will all see how long that is to be this season. I still say UNT comes away with 5-6 wins this season...played well enough Saturday to be 2-0. GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. Yep, that common courtesy stuff is hard.
  19. Man, Coach Hedlund needs to go to remedial scheduling school. I cannot believe he allowed this schedule to happen...a Big XII team on Friday evening (great win) and then you come back against PV A&M the very next morning...not good at all...results show it. Loss won't hurt the season, but come on PV A&M?????? You have got to be kidding going with this schedule situation. And, yes, I know PV A&M has some travel issues or rules, but...just don't schedule it if so. Good Grief...
  20. Think Dodge's philosophy has anything to do with that? Yes, congrats to the Mean green for showing a good bit of class after a tough loss.
  21. Don't know what game you attended, but the "Alumni side" as some have called it was not sitting on their hands all night and were doing their full share of cheering...just not the obscene variety. And, there was plenty of standing...as you might can tell from some earlier thread posting. Anytime the students want to compare attendance and loyalty with those on the Alumni side who have sat through 20-30+ years of UNT football (good and not so good) I am most happy to discuss that with them...or anyone who thinks the "Alumni side" does not get "into the game". Come to games for 30+ years...and more for some...then we'll talk about how to support a team. By the way...I did not hear the obscene language and I am very glad about that...I am proud of the student side turnout in some bad weather...so, I give them a big "THANK YOU"...let's just see them come back the rest of the season in even greater force. PS...isn't it good that one can "debate" how to act at a game instead of "why doesn't anyone support the team" for a change? Think about that Mean Green fans...in my book, That's very good news. GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT UNT FOOTBALL GAMES...both on the field and in the stands. GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. Sorry folks, UNT is not Texas A&M...and thank goodness for that...I have no problem if folks want to stand at certain times during the game...but, there is a thing called courtesy...you might think about those around you at times when you want to stand the entire game. Sight lines are important to all who purchase game tickets and actually show up for games. If you are so self-centered that you think it is your right to block everyone else's view during the entire (or majority) of a game, why not buy your tickets in a location where you will not interfere with other's enjoyment of the game? Just saying... It seems to be that the "me me" attitude prevails so much these days, that people don't even think about how their actions might just effect others...too bad. I stood a good part of the game, but was able to move a bit to give those near me good sight lines when they did not feel the need to stand as often as I did....it's hard, I understand that during the excitement of a game, and I know there are folks who think it is 100% OK to block everyone else's view...you know...the attitude is...well, they can stand too....but, just think about it a bit. I happen to know folks who attend the games who are a bit "older" than some and have a bit of a hard time standing. Those that want to stand and see no problem with blocking other's view, might think about buying tickets on the student side. Again, I understand...I stand a good bit too, but I do think one needs to consider those Mean Green fans who might not share the passion for standing or who might just want to enjoy the game sitting....I, for one, am also happy they banned umbrellas...it's no fun to sit behind an umbrella...no view of the game and the rain dripping off their umbrella onto you...at least the rules took care of those who were so very inconsiderate of those around them in this case.... Lot's of open space at Saturday's game to move up and out of others way if one wanted to stand the entire game.....might want to consider that.
  23. One of the best quotes I have ever heard went something like this..."Act like you have been there before". I forget who said it...maybe Bear Bryant or Tom Landry...don't know...I am sure someone does and can tell us, but it does say a good bit to me about this sort of thing. This type of "stuff" does no good, and, as we all saw, can really make a good thing turn bad. Nice that UNT "recovered" from the "brain freeze", and I am probably sure it will not happen again, but still...... I'm with Silver Eagle on this one....
