Well, as I have had some time to ponder the outcome of Saturday's game, I find some "good", some "bad" and some "ugly". Here you have it from a still optimistic Mean Green Fan: The GOOD: Great Weather Excellent Crowd - 23,319 (with plenty of student turnout) 40 points scored by the offense Lance Dunbar - 238 yards, 3 td's Nathan Tune's effort...nice passes...plenty of zip...seeemd much more confident O-Line Tailgate Atmosphere Free Beer and Food College of Business Alumni Tent PACS Alumni Tent UNT Alumni Assoc. Tailgate...good food, lots of "stuff"...great location. UNT Co-Eds Two Tight End sets Deep Throws...on target Defense in the 3rd Qtr Tank Army T-Shirt sales (thanks to some GMG.Com members, etc.) Great Comeback in the 3rd/4th Qtr. Roy Orbisson's wife/widow in attendance Great fun with the Mean Green Fans in my seat area...always makes the game-no matter the outcome fun! The BAD: PAT Snaps Stupid Mistakes-penalties Riley's injury (leading when he left the game) Run Defense - what's with a fullback running wild up the middle? (Hello Mendoza) Lots of mud in the "official" tailgate areas The referees...how do you miss some of those calls????? Just asking' Coach DeLoach still up in the press box - he needs to be on the field...too much passion sitting too far from his defense The UGLY: 44 points allowed Pass Defense...did we re-hire Mendoza for this game? Kickoffs....just kick the darn thing in-bounds...how hard can it be?????? 1-5 Captain kangaroo beats the Mean Green again...ugh! Late 4th Qtr - AGAIN! 14th straight SBC loss 8th straight home loss Troy up next! But, did I mention the co-eds, the great weather, the comeback, free beer and food, Lance Dunbar, etc., etc. Yes, I will admit to being absolutely MAD at half-time, but the 3rd and start of the 4th really brought the life back in me and I was geared up again for the win...alas, it was not to be. But, crazy thing about football...there is always the rest of the season. This team IS better...it simply needs to learn how to win. That will come before this season is over. GO MEAN GREEN. Keep the faith.

Rangers Hitting Coach

Me too, where managers actually have to manage the game and where pitchers actually have to hit...you know, actually play baseball. But, alas, the Cardinals got swept. No joy in Mudville for the rest of the season even through the "U.S. Series". -

Health Care Reform Debate

Yep, had a "Pork Knuckle" while "enjoying" the Smoke Beer. If you like meat and beer, a Beer Tour to Prague, Munich and Bamberg is right down your alley. Like I said, check out the site at : www.beertrips.com. They take Beer Tours to a bunch of great beer heavens. My wife and I absolutely had a great time! -
One reason the administration "gets away" with this stuff is because the Mean Green fan base is so small compared to its student and alumni base. The apathy of many of its grads and current students makes it easy for the administration to keep doing the same old stuff. When you finally get an AD like RV who has some vision and really delivers on promises such as upgraded facilities the fan base needs to really get behind the program instead of continuing to complain about "stuff". Start getting students and alums to support UNT...both athletically and academically...and things will definitely move away from the baby step mode. I do think the new stadium and overall athletic facilities upgrades we have seen under RV are much more than baby steps. SilverEage, you have been around a long time too, and you are still a real Mean Green fan who puts his rear in the seats and supports the program. UNT is MY university....come what may, I'll be there to support the Mean Green and UNT overall. Heck, there are lots of things I would like to see changed at UNT, but I prefer to try to be part of the solution by donating money and my time to UNT and by attending events when I can. It is easier for me than some as I live in Denton, but there are plenty of local grads who jump on and off the bandwagon depending on the won-loss record and who never donate time nor money to their Alma mater. That, in my opinion, needs to change. See you at the Game Saturday, SilverEagle. GO MEAN GREEN!

Thanks, Brett...nice thing to do for the Mean Green Nation.

And, you believe that when contract negotiations come around and the money is there for the taking???? Yea, right? These guys play for the money and when the money is on the table, they play...the team rarely matters and ownership matters even less. It's the "show me the money" league...can't say as I blame the players. However, does seem to be a little "bias" regarding who says what in the NFL to go along with some weak leadership. Yea, the Commish protects the NFL brand! You have got to be kidding me. How many NFL players have gone to jail or are awaiting trial now and how many eventually get reinstated. Sure, uphold that brand against a radio personality, but give it the old "who cares" when it comes to convicted criminals. That's the right stuff! Ha! You go Goodell! Too funny! Boycott the NFL...well, not going there...but, I do spend much more time enjoying the college game these days. College games I attend in person and watch on TV...the NFL...well, almost exclusively on TV. -
Health Care Reform Debate
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Agree. And, to the beers...having just returned from Munich and Oktoberfest...I agree...both Miller Lite and Coors Lite taste like water! But, of the two, I still prefer Miller Lite. Ever had Smoke Beer from Bamberg, Germany???? Had the experience on our recent Beer Tour (Yes, there is such an organized tour...look it up...Beertrips.com). If you closed your eyes before drinking it, you would swear that you were drinking "liquid bacon". Not our favorite beer on the trip, but the most unique for sure! GO MEAN GREEN! -

Weak....and wishy-washy at best...if you think Rush is correct in saying that he was told the NFL leadership at the highest levels had signed off on his possible inclusion in the proposed ownership group BEFORE he was added to the group. I have no idea if that is true or not...I personally wasn't there...but, it smells of "cave in" to me, and weak spine at the top. Don't fret the NFL isn't alone as ACORN has been doing that kind of stuff for years...Al and Jesse and Smith are just showing they have learned extortion tactics from the best. WHO CARES anyway if Rush owns part of an NFL team or not???? We already have some rather interesting owners. -
Health Care Reform Debate
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Do you see "bias" around every street corner too? Come on...how can you make a statement like "I see a lot of bias against any kind of reform"? If one disagrees with another on an issue, that does not constitute bias in analysis or conclusion. It constitutes a disagreement. Another question...is "bias" in itself wrong or bad? I like Miller Lite better than Coors Lite...I have a bias toward Miller Lite. Is that, in itself "wrong, evil or bad" somehow? Just wondering from an entirely different perspective. But, back to the topic at hand...I think you have to stretch pretty hard to see a "bias" against "any kind of reform" in this summary. But, perhaps bias is in the eye of the beholder....heck, I'll admit to being bioased against just about everything Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson have to say. -
Florida Atlantic Will Be Without A Key Player For Saturday's Game

Too bad...I want every player ready and capable of playing for the Owls while UNT goes about beating them Saturday! No excuses for the Owls!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN! -
"How Big Would It Feel" and Quoner and Tasty are no where to be found to "play" with that one.......

I can attest to what FFR Rick is saying about the "baby steps". I became a Mean Green fan in 1965! It has been awhile for me, but it has been and still is great to be a Member of the Mean Green nation. And, part of the reason is.....Mean Green "fans" tend to jump on and off the bandwagon so very easily...heck, we even have some folks on this site that "claim" to be big fans and live in the local area, but still do not purchase tickets or come to games. That's being part of the problem, not part of the solution in my book and says a great deal about why it takes the Mean Green "baby step" moves to move forward. Still, move forward UNT will, and it's great to be part of it. See you Saturday for the BIG win against FAU and Capt. K. GO MEAN GREEN...and thanks to all the fans who stand by the Mean Green through thick and thin because it is THEIR UNIVERSITY!!!!!

I quote from the September 9, 2009 "Policy Analysis" piece from the Cato Institute: "There has been a great deal of misinformation in the debate over health care reform. Opponents have sometimes been hyperbolic in describing death panels and forced euthanasia. At the same time, supporters have been disingenuous in promising that people will be able to keep their doctors and current insurance plans. The confusion has been magnified by the lack of a single health care bill. At least three different versions are currently making their way slowly toward the House floor. A fourth version has passed the Senate HELP Committee, and a fifth still-inchoate version is being negotiated behind closed doors by six members of the Senate Finance Committee. This makes it hard to pin down specific details and easy for representatives to duck questions on the issue. However, if one reads through the different bills and proposals, it becomes clear that under all the current versions of health reform, Americans will end up paying more and getting less. In fact, Americans will pay more than $820 billion in higher taxes over the next 10 years and could see their insurance premiums rise as much as 95 percent. Health care reform will increase the budget deficit by at least $239 billion over the next 10 years and far more in the years beyond that. If the new health care entitlement were subject to the same 75-year actuarial standards as Social Security or Medicare, its unfunded liabilities would exceed $9.2 trillion. At the same time, while the bills contain no direct provisions for rationing care, they nonetheless set the stage for government rationing and interference with how doctors practice medicine. Millions of Americans who are happy with their current health insurance will not be able to keep it, while at least some Americans may find it more difficult to see their current doctor. Perhaps the best summation, comes from Rep. John Alder (D-NJ): "The bill that's coming through the House, with or without the public option, isn't good for America' ". One of the best summations, free of emotion, that I have seen regarding the health care debate. Yes, it comes from Michael Tanner in his article, "Halfway to Where? Answering the Key Questions of Health Care Reform" published by the Cato Institute, but seems rather free of bias and written without the emotion many folks want to put into this debate. The full article is very enlightening and informative. Now, you decide!

Tonight We Are All...
KRAM1 replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Interesting who caved when Sharpton and Jackson got involved. Obviously the NFL has no backbone and is not interested in "facts", just in bowing to pressure. Obviously weak leadership from the top. Too bad. Extortion seems to work, even on the NFL. Good Grief! -
I seem to recall a pretty good comeback in one and a loss in the last seconds in the other. I didn't think it was considered a "blow-out" until the game was played, and as I recall there are four parts of equal time to a football game. You have a very "interesting" concept of "blown out" in my opinion. GO MEAN GREEN!

Good point...where is GreenGuyBass when you need him? Not everyone might agree with him, but he does have a "up close and personal" look at the mighty Rangers. Are you out there in GMG.com land GreenGuyBass? -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN0MpBQG3-E This guy is pretty funny and he reminds me of folks who seem to always want to find what's wrong with everything. Give it a look, it might just put a smile on your face.

What do you have against kids with autism????? I assume you are referring to the Rangers pitching staff. And, no I usually made it to the 3rd inning for the boredom set in and I fell asleep. I must not be alone with this...check the TV ratings for the DFW area during the playoffs so far! For a so-called "major" sport, the ratings are pretty bad...and that's being kind. Seems MLB has lost the DFW area...one of the nation's largest TV markets. Gee, and baseball is so very exciting and all that. Hard to figure out. Just trying to wake Quoner up...come on Tasty...you really should get in on this. I miss your humor...I really do. Come on in...go for it! -
Silly talk. It will be what it will be...and it will be Dodge next season after "earning" that right through dramatic on-field improvement, good solid recruiting and more wins than in previous years. Sorry some folks are so intent on seeing the negative...I know Flyer is simply frustrated with the "close but no cigar" stuff...we all are, but, in the end...Flyer along with the rest of the real Mean Green Nation will be there on Saturday to support this team...no matter who is coaching and who wins. Some others will just sit home and complain. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

CORRECTION...MY BIG MISTAKE... Tank Army T-Shirts are a bit less than I originally posted....so sorry. I stand corrected...thankfully... TANK ARMY T-Shirts are $12.00 each or 2 for $20.00. (I had originally posted $15.00 each or 2 for $25.00 --- Good Grief!) Sorry Steve...and others who may have read my post. I cannot believe I can't get that straight....my friend and Alumni Co-heart, Wes Davis, has to keep reminding me of the real pricing....thanks, Wes. GO MEAN GREEN!

Steve, sorry...no way to process credit cards for the shirts. The shirts are $15.00 each or 2 for $25.00...checks or cash PLEASE and thank you very much. The alums tailgate set-up should be in the grassy area just in front of the gate to the practice field area. Just look for the big Mean Green 18-Wheeler. Should be right there...come by and see us. Appreciate the interest and the support. Come one...come all....

Rangers Hitting Coach
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Yep, I watched plenty, but could rarely stay awake long enough to see the end as I was bored to tears by all the standing around. You may be on to something there with FC Dallas...too many missed "kicks" for sure last season and it looks like 2009 might just be a repeat...you know, bringing in a college coach to coach a professional team and all that. But, I am surprised that you could even spell FC Dallas! Nice! Let's see which team wins the US Series...my guess it will be the team whose pitching holds up. Seems that has been the run so far in the playoffs with several series...Cardinals, etc. Pitching left the house just when the playoffs arrived...again! Sure the Rangers had a better effort from the mound this year...but, in case you missed it, the season result was the same as always...no post-season for the great hitting Rangers. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....did you watch???? Just saying....
