  1. No, but there is a Champions League in soccer where all the top teams play against each other for a championship...much better than the MLB, NBA, etc. "world" claim. As to the Lakers...you are probably right, but we'll never know will we? They wouldn't dare take the chance now would they..."World" champs my rear end! I give you the U.S. Champs...and a darn good team at that...no argument from me, but call it what it is.
  2. I just wanted to bump this back up to the top...folks should really take a look at the video...it might get some to realize that UNT is much more than the W's and L's. Take a look. You will enjoy what you see.
  3. That's because it was a baseball stadium.
  4. And, until they all start allowing team champions from other nations to qualify and participate NONE of them are WORLD CHAMPIONS OF ANYTHING! Think how exciting it would be to have the Lakers play a real world tournament, or the Yankees/Phillies winner, etc. THAT would be great and a TRUE World Champion would emerge. Not like the all-star world baseball and basketball things...but, the pro teams. Could be great sport.
  5. Don't know...2014 is such a long time. Like I said...I guess you read it...lines in the sand are not my cup of tea. Ask me again as we get closer to 2014. My crystal ball looks a little brighter than yours by the way.
  6. Fried Bologna...now you are talking. Did you know that Sweetwater in Denton makes a great fried bologna sandwich? Yummmmmmmmmm. Goes great with a pitcher of good cold beer and a cup of chili. Just can't get much better than that!
  7. Is that really two questions? Oh, well... First, I don't draw lines in the sand over things such as football games. They just aren't THAT important in the overall scheme of things. They did that at the Alamo and you see where it got them. It's like I like to ask coaches and parents who are screaming about some call I made or didn't make on the soccer field. I like to ask them that if it is THAT important to get that worked up over then surely you can recall the score of the third game you played two years ago....what was that? Haven't had one mad coach or parent be able to answer that question in over 25 years of refereeing. And, amazingly enough, I have had some come back the next week or two and tell me they thought about what I said and it made a lot of sense to them NOW! I tend to think a lot of things ARE working with this team and program. But, you have to try to see the positives as well as the things you feel are a bit amiss...if all you look at is the W/L record, well, yes, you will more often than not be sorely disappointed in just about any team you follow in any sport. Now, that being said, I certainly think TD deserves another year (at least) to see what his "work in progress" can become. And, "no" I am not simply ignoring the W's and L's. I do not like losing any more than any one else on this board does. I tend to feel the "hole" was a lot deeper when TD got here than some folks think, and it takes time to dig out. Plus, I do think TD was a bit misguided in bringing so many of his HS coaches with him when he came to UNT. That, probably set the time line back a bit. But, that too is "water under the bridge" and changes have been made. Did I think we'd see more wins than we have this year so far...Yep! can UNT still put up some W's before the season ends...YEP! And with that...see you at Fouts for the WIN over the Hilltoppers this Saturday! GO MEAN GREEN.
  8. Phillies in 6...but please...call it what it is...The US Series...there is nothing "World" about it.
  9. Now...that's definitely some good news! It's going to be a fun basketball season for the Mean Green faithful. JJ seems to be really building a solid program at UNT. NICE! See you at the Super Pit! GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. That definitely has me smiling....
  11. Can happen, and I'll not give in until the "fat lady sings". Ha! GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT DENVER!!!!!!!!
  12. I see sunshine!
  13. Sounds like the NBA and the NFL to me...or maybe the NCAA!
  14. And, your qualifications for evaluating coaching, other than arm chair Monday morning QB status, are exactly what?
  15. Slam Dunk. Done Deal!
  16. Sorry to read this post. This one is especially hard to read as I realize how heartfelt it is and where it is coming from. The saddest part to me is the fact that, once again, support for one's university is tied to the football team's won-loss record. I get kidded about my loyalty to UNT all the time by my friends who graduated elsewhere. I get the emails and calls after each and every loss, so what? UNT is not the football team and I am personally not defined by the college teams I support. Heck, there have been some years when all three colleges I graduated from were taking it in the shorts every week. You think that was fun to take? No, but these things change and it is part of the fun of being a college sports fan, and a UNT fan in particular. I would encourage folks to get a bit of perspective on this whole thing. You are not defined by the won-loss record of the school you attended or graduated from. "Emotional investment" is self-made...you can make it positive or negative...yes, you really can. Anyway, I ask you to keep the faith in your university. It is much grander than just it's football program. GO MEAN GREEN. I encourage all who feels as illuvius32 does to watch the UNT Traditions video posted on another thread here on GMG.com. Might help your emotional side get a big uplift.
  17. Now that is WAY COOL! I suggest that all GMG.com posters take a look. Says much more about UNT than just the football team's wins and losses. Agreed...makes one proud to be a member of the MEAN GREEN NATION> Well done...very well done. GO MEAN GREEN!
  18. You knw what? I remeber a GREAT chicken fried steak meal at the Hickory House here in Denton (University Dr.) for 79 cents! I was really sad when that place closed. Talk about a tradition!
  19. Will anyone? I am sure the TV ratings will be better with NY in the U.S. Series than the Angels, but I am guessing you will see VERY poor TV ratings. But, what else is new here? Seems US Series ratings have been dropping for awhile, and I am not sure why if baseball is still "America's Favorite Pastime". I did read an article recently written by a big baseball fan who was bemoaning the fact that, in his opinion, baseball was losing the younger generation because it was so slow and took so long to play a game. Not to mention the exceedingly long season...April-November. The guy seemed to think that today's youth was wanting a much more fast paced game. I don't know, but seems to make a bit of sense to me. I think baseball has become much more a "participant's game" than a spectator game. With one of the games taking 44 min. to play the seventh inning alone (it was a pretty good inning...I have to admit that), I have to think the guy has a point. Sounds like a good sports research project to me...Is Baseball Losing the Youth of America? I don't know one way or the other but you could start by tracing the percentage participation in Little League, Pony League, American Legion, BBI, Inc., etc., Jr. High and HS programs for participants and then look at attendance and TV ratings...might be interesting, and it might show that baseball remains America's favorite pastime. But...then again...
  20. BINGO! We have a winner!
  21. Am I wrong in thinking in another post you just said you were "done with the program" until the wins start coming...or something like that? If you are "done", why worry? I think the "give Dodge another year" is by far the best and most prudent course of action here for the benefit of UNT's program. I just think it takes time to turn a program around...heck, even Duke is beginning to win some football games and I recall when B. Bowden first got to Fla. state. Fla. State was "dog meat"...and it took a few years. Anyone remember Miami before Capt. kangaroo got there? No, I am not saying UNT will be a Fla. State or a Miami anytime soon...just point out that like Rice and Duke and countless others in all divisions, it can take some time and constantly changing coaches just might make matters worse. And, yes, matters could be worse...WAY WORSE. You know, Good things ARE happening at UNT these days...just look around with an open "eye" and you'll find lots to like across the university. If you have "tunnel vision" and equate everything about UNT and pin your support only on the football team's record, well, you will be like some here...oh, so sad and pessimistic (not realistic) day in and day out. GO MEAN GREEN! See you at Fouts Saturday...it will be a great day to be part of the Mean Green Nation. Did I mention the great fun at tailgating????
  22. Yep, saw that...I am most certain that the opposing 'keeper will hear about that goal for years to come. And, on another note...FC Dallas just misses the playoffs. FC Dallas was leading the Seattle Sounders 1-0 into the second half before giving up two goals and losing 2-1 to end any hope of a playoff berth. Made a very nice run at the end of the season to have a shot at the playoffs, but, alas, it was not to be. Next year! SUMG, I'm glad you are taking note of such soccer "happenings". There might just be hope for you yet!
  23. Once again we see UNT fans knocking their own. Interesting...and, FFR, I guess this is the post from which I "stole your thunder" according to Quoner, the gatekeeper of all things it so appears. When did you hire him to watch out for you? Would not have started a thread about the attendance difference between UNT and Troy had I read this thread first. Didn't mean to "steal" the topic I had simply not looked at this thread. I hope my post didn't ruin your day or anything...just thought it was worth noting! GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. That's the spirit.......your university thanks you for your interest. Why is giving the the university contingent upon the football team's win-loss record?
  25. Good question, SilverEagle...and, in all honesty, I cannot recall. I am sure I was not happy with the W's and L's, but was in all likely hood, still attending games and still cheering the Mean Green on....I also do not recall the length of Coach Parker's contract. Did he have a three year deal or was he fired in the middle of a longer contract? I really don't recall....I've had too much fun watching the Mean Green since then.
