Basketball Programs Launch Season-Ticket Campaign
KRAM1 replied to meangreen15's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Short and correct answer: Sell you as many season tickets as you desire to purchase. -
I am meeting with John tomorrow on another matter. Want me to ask about this?
-
Trying new things...I like this! Hope it is a big success. I will certainly be there sometime on that Wednesday to pick up my tickets...and, as they say, Mean Green Club items. Wondering how big the crowd will be at say 10am and 2 pm? I am guessing the crowds will be their largest at opening (8am) as folks stop by on the way to work, at noon (lunch breaks) and 5:30-7pm as folks head home from work. Kudos to the Athletic Department for trying something new.
-
Yep. Love that they are trying to find new ways to help keep recent grads connected to the University. This is part of a University-wide effort to find new ways to keep our grads connected. Much much easier to keep them connected than to try to get them to reconnect after years of neglect. So, bravo! Now, I want to se the results. I am a tad skeptical of "freebies" in this arena, but you really do not know until you try. Does this program reduce actual ticket buyers? Will new grads who would be going to the games and paying for tickets at some level now just grad the free ones? Will these tickets count in our "season ticket numbers"? Lots of questions, but I am sure these areas were discussed in meetings leading up to this program being rolled out. So, here's a "way to go" for trying something new and here's hoping this is a great success. You never know for sure unless you try.

I hear you, but get back with me on that "win and they will come" after you have been following and attending UNT games for close to 50 years as I have. For you young whippersnappers, I give you our attendance after our winning season and HOD Bowl victory. Did not increase one iota! Nor did we sustain sell out crowds during the Fry years when we beat Tennessee on their own turf, beat Houston, etc., etc. One reason Fry went to Iowa was due to lack of support from both the fan base and the administration...told me that personally when we visited one day at the Denton bank where I was then working. So, your "win and they will come" might well work for most other programs, but UNT and its fan base has shown over and over and over again that it us "different". If you haven't noticed, Denton is a unique town and "different". Try being a long time UNT fan and a fiscal conservative and live in this town since 1965. It can try one soul. Hey, I love Denton and never want to move out of this town, but that doesn't mean it won't "try your soul" when it comes to UNT athletics and politics. I don't really understand the part of your reply relating to game times. Don't think I said anything about game times. But, I do call BS on any angst over a 6pm start. At that time of year it is pretty darn warm and can be pretty humid still at 7-7:30pm. Weather just seems to be another one of those "tried and true long standing excuses" UNT folks have for not attending games. I heard them all and the same ones keep popping up every single year...too hot, too cold, Halloween, Thursday night, too early, bad team coming to town, possibility of rain, we are losing, we can't go in and out of the stadium, Thanksgiving game, same time as Texas-OU, we don't sell beer...and now for some we do sell beer (see you can always find another excuse), I can't park close enough, they charge for parking....should I go on? If you are a fan none of these are valid. But, if you are a so-called fan of the Mean Green, every one of these become a "valid" excuse. Anyway, let's chat again and say, 30 years, about this "win and they will come" idea. I, in the deepest part of my soul, hope you are correct and times have changed enough to make your point valid. It will mean UNT is consistently winning and we are filling up Apoee. That, Sir, is what I hope.

You are absolutely full of crap! Go away..you don't come to games anyway, so you have no clue! -
Well, you know, because every starting job right out of college pays upwards of $100,000 with a VP's title to go along with it. No one need spend any time gaining experience and on the job knowledge. They know all they need to know the day they graduate.

I just recall the old promotions adage..."an empty seat never bought a hot dog"... or a beer or parking or anything else for that matter. I, too, think making tickets free indicates a value of zero. But, I would be good with "buy one-get one", "one free kids ticket with an adult ticket", some sort of discounted Wing Zone family pack, a section where you get food and drink vouchers, etc., etc. Not just "free".

Nice to see a member of one of Texas' great golfing families receive induction into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. UNT's own Ernie Kuehne must be very proud of his daughter right about now with this news. I followed the careers of all three golfing Kuehne's as Hank had once played for OSU before transferring to SMU. Kelli win at the high school, amateur and professional level. Winning the US Amateur and the British Amateur. Her brother, Tripp, is also a member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. The book "The Last Putt" is a great read focused on Tripp and Tiger's fight to the finish at the US Amateur. If you can find a copy, and if you are a fan of golf, it is a great read. Congrats to Kelli Kuehne! Well done young lady! 👍👍

Don't see this as "crapping on her" at all and no one here blamed her for transferring out of UNT. The discussion rests on why is it that someone feels the need to transfer four times in a four year eligibility time frame. Just seems a tad odd.

Honest answer...not in the least. In fact, we played them in the last Workd Cup as a "unified team" as I recall. It is about sport and sporting fair play...not about politics. You run into a lot of "principles of the things" when you mix up things like this. I did not favor the last Olympic boycott because Russia was in Afghanistan either...gee, look who has been in Afghanistan now for many years. And, Liberty does not "force" their professors...these professors know exactly what they are getting into when they take the job...willingly take I might add. Like public school teachers who glady accept a position knowing full well the salary and benefits and then loudly start complaining that they are under paid. I agree that they definitely are under paid, but one knew the pay scale going in! These Liberty biology profs know the drill going in and one must believe they agree with it or they would not have taken the job in the first place.

Well, that certainly is one opinion. I just happen to hold an entirely different one. It is a football game period. Nothing more nothing less. My opinion... we will just have to agree to disagree.

And, I have absolutely no problem with you having a problem with that. But, pray tell (see what I did there! 😂😂) what in the hell does that have with playing them in a football game? It is a football game...not a brain washing in creationism!

Got your tickets yet?

Yes, figured that required class on creationism was what you were talking about. Certainly not my cup of tea...and yours either it appears, but it is a private college. Check out the offerings at ORU and BYU in their religion area. They are private schools as well. And, I don't know if it still does, but Notre Dame once...maybe still...required a religion class. Should we never schedule Notre Dame, ORU or BYU in football or basketball? Like I originalluy said....it is a football game...not an indoctrination program.

Just got the word that John Williams has come up with four more gift cards to utilize as drawing prizes for all who enter the Corn-Hole tournament. So, even if your team doesn't win one of the top three prizes you could still win a cool gift card. So far we have six (6) gift cards to award through the players drawing. Plus...you guys like @oldguystudent who like John Williams and Eastside, you have a chance to win a $100 Rally House gift card along with a $50 bar tab at Eastside! Let's do this people! Let me know through a PM or post here if you want to play ($25 for a single) and $40 per team of two...we will pair singles up into 2-person teams. So, don't have a team? Who cares...no problem. Come on out. You will have a team.

Basketball Programs Launch Season-Ticket Campaign
KRAM1 replied to meangreen15's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Friend of mine bought four men's season tickets today...he had let his tickets lapse the last few years and is now back! I hope this is a trend. Renewing both my men's and women's tickets today. Folks...don't forget about the ladies. The tickets are very reasonably priced (all seating is GA for the time being), and Jalie and Company has this program heading in the right direction. Her teams a lot of fun to watch and they NEVER quit...win or lose. -
Yes, yes, we did...and Indiana is a team, like Vanderbilt, that I could see us playing at Apogee to decent crowds WITH a chance of winning as well.
-
Which class offering at Liberty are you referring to? Again, not trying to defend these guys at all, but it seems a lot of folks are going on rumor and innuendo over facts about this place. Nothing much different than ORU, BYU, etc. from what I can tell.

I used to be right there with you on this...until I saw what happened to attendance after our first HOD Bowl win when our attendance declined. For me this "win and they will come" concept just doesn't work for UNT. I am just going to have to be proven wrong...and I hope I am because it would mean we are winning.
-
OK...so folks disagree with me here...no problem, but could someone explain the attraction of getting clobbered at home by some nationally ranked P5 team? And, please, no "we will sell Apogee out" because that dog doesn't hunt any longer. After our massive crowd at the 1st HOD Bowl, we see ZERO attendance increase. So, getting clobbered at home and having Apogee filled with opposing team fans who will never come back is a good thing how?

How familiar are you with their academics? I have worked with several Liberty grads and they were excellent...professional, knowledgeable, spoke and wrote well, showed up and stayed late, volunteered to do the little extra things around the office, did not take "days off" to take their pets to the vet like some of our employees and left their religion and philosophy at the door. I would be more than happy to hire their grads as my experience with them was noting but positive. Have you been to the campus? I have...not to tour or anything., but just to walk around (I like college campuses)...pretty impressive and much larger than I expected. And, no one tried to preach or "convert" us heathen Episcopalians while we were on the campus, but several did say hello in passing.
