Yes...thanks to all our Vets. A job well done. And, as a vet myself, I thank you for your "thanks". Folks, it may be trite to say, but "FREEDOM AIN'T FREE". Lots of fine men and women of this great nation of ours have paid the price to allow us all to retain the freedoms we have today. They are the real heroes, and should be honored today and every day.

Bring World Cup To Dallas
KRAM1 replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Dallas has already served as a host city to the World Cup. Dallas and the Cotton Bowl folks did a great job. Big crowds and some excellent games. Dallas hosted 1st round and quarterfinal games. As I recall the quarterfinal was between Brazil and the Netherlands...excellent game...saw some great young Brazilians playing in their firt World Cup. Went to every game at the Cotton Bowl. Great crowds, great excitement, excellent fun! And, no problems at all. Anyway, I think it would be great to see the World Cup back in Dallas. GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL !!! USA, USA, USA, USA!!!!!! -
So this guy would be the first person ever recorded to have "Pre-Post Traumatice Stress Syndrone", right? Wow...you get PTSD just by getting ready to go to a war zone???? Now, that's new. My son heads to Iraq on Nov. 17th serving as a Navy Flight Surgeon. I checked with him on the Pre-PTSD thing and we both had a real hearty laugh! Too bad the guy isn't DEAD!
-
So, SUMG, you are back from GMG.com banishment...great to see! But, even "greater" would be landing this kid! Be still my heart!
-
He has a radio show each Monday after a game...why not ask him in person? You know, the guy isn't hard to find and I have found him very approachable and open to questions. Why not try it in person sometime?

So, I understand the frustration, but your support is needed now more than ever. I do hope you won't abandon ship just when the waters are the roughest.

It was definitely a tough day to sit in the stands and watch what was happening on the field. That's not being negative, it's just telling it like it was. Not too many bright spots on the field...except the band...they did a GREAT job...for either side of the ball. I do not understand why the defense has taken such a step backwards after playing some great ball earlier in the season. The offense just never got anything going, and special teams were not very special either. On a brighter note...thanks to all who stopped by the Alumni Tailgate tent and picked up a TANK ARMY T-Shirt or two...or three...even had a purchase of 5 at one time...and to all who bought a shirt from our "walking rovers" in the tailgate area. We will still be selling before the Army game and still have shirts available. We need your help to put some $$$$ in the scholarship fund to distribute this year to worthy UNT students. See you at Fouts for the Army game in two weeks. GO MEAN GREEN!

Agree with that 100%. However, if that is the case, why do many give their dislike for TD and RD, for that matter, as their reason for not attending games or supporting the university in any way? Obviously, they really do not care to support the University oer the program and they have found an excuse that they can hang on to. My guess, they didn't come to many games or give much support either through $$$$ or volunteerism even when the team was winning. People can always find an excuse for the lack of support. It's just the way it is with some folks. Too bad...they miss out on a lot of great experiences and the company of a lot of great people.

Brett Vito: Mean Green Starting To Fall Off The Map
KRAM1 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
I do hate to admit it, but there really isn't much to argue with in that piece from Brett Vito. It is not a negative piece like some of his in the past that seemed so much to be about his personal like and/or dislike of T Dodge...it is a rational and sane piece regarding the spot UNT finds itself in owing to the rise of both SMU and TCU's football fortunes. The crowd size, while reportedly larger than the week before against WKY, said a lot about what Brett is saying. When the school's own student body (far and away the largest in the metroplex) and many of the season ticket holders could not find their way to Fouts on a wonderfully beautiful fall afternoon to support THEIR school against UL-Monroe, well, pretty much supports Brett's position. I hope the stands fill for the Army game. If you cannot bring yourself to come in support of the Mean Green, well, come and support the young men and women of the US Military Academy at West Point. Hopefully, wearing green (A Tank Army T-Shirt perhaps...yes!!!) and cheering for a Mean Green victory. If for no other reason than to support the team members who work VERY hard to do the best they can...I'll be there with the bride and we are bringing a friend to his first Mean Green home game. Hope to see you there as a part of a FULL Fouts field to support the Mean Green seniors in their last home game and to support the full Mean Green squad and in support of the fine young men and women who make up the Corps of Cadet at West Point. GO MEAN GREEN...TANK ARMY!!!! -
OK, that's two in two different threads....and, what's negative about it? It's a question regarding cost for an exhibition game when for the past few years they have been free...maybe you didn't attend the games and that's why you didn't know...
-
Not going to happen. I gave my word and we are short of referees as it is each Saturday. I'll do my three games in a row and head immediately home to change and then to Fouts field for the victory against Army. I know it's hard for some folks to understand, but when I tell someone that they can count on me...well, they can count on me. If the slots were not so "empty" for refs this season, I would definitely try to find someone to take my place. It would be the way to go, but just won't work this season. So, I'm on the pitch that morning as promised. Even though, my heart will be with the Mean Green Nation around groundbreaking time. It's going to be hard to be a bit "late" for the Army game as I have a friend coming to the game who has never been to a Mean Green home game, and I'll be meeting up with the daughter of some friends of ours who is a current plebe at West Point. I am mailing her a TANK ARMY t-shirt on Monday...anyone think it might end up on the West Point rifle range????? Hmmmmmmmmm. GO MEAN GREEN!

Was that question negative? Just wondering if the guy ever attends a game and since he has not responded, I thought perhaps the question was too hard for him to figure out and offered to find a translator for him if he needed it. Is that negative, or was it simply an offer to help Shaft...who obviously had a hard time in freshman English if he cannot understand my question regarding his attendance or lack of same.
-
SHAFT, you still didn't say if you attended the game...or any game this season for that matter. Is it so hard to understand the question? If so, perhaps we can get you a tutor or maybe a translator. Will we see you at the game Saturday???? And, no, I am definitely not the only fan. Twenty three thousand of us turned out for the Florida Atlantic game. But, you probably missed that too as you were "missing in action" as usual.

WOW, my hat's off to TWU. That will be a good win to set the start of their season off in the right direction. I hope the men take note of this. In this sport, you never know what's going to happen. Only five on the floor at any one time and, a hot player here and there can really make a difference. Nice win ladies from TWU...UNT ladies, you need this to be your season "wake up call". I do think you are much better than this result shows. You gotta love these "exhibition" games. The lower division team always comes to play, and every season you get a few of these "upsets". Who knows, TWU may make a run for their conference championship. Pretty obvious they were more "interested" in the game than were the ladies from UNT. Good opportunity for Coach Stephens to do the DeLoch thing and chew on the team a bit to get their "attention" before the "real" season begins!
-
OK, call the ticket office and see what's up...I do think they said they were mailing them in stages...but, there is a game next week. So, give them a call. They are nice folks and I am sure they will check on it for you.

Just saw a report in the Dallas Morning News this morning reporting that 75%...that 75%...of young people in the US between the ages of 17-24 are unfit for military duty! Man, and those standards are not such that one has to be Charles Atlas or able to run a marathon to be able to enlist. Wow. This is really incredible! Well, maybe not so incredible as I walk across the UNT campus these days...or Denton High, or Ryan or Guyer...or around the square in Denton (yep, I was looking for that pit BBQ joint on the square Quoner wrote about ), or just about anywhere. But, the stat was a shocker to me...this is just plain ridiculous. Just think, we wouldn't have had so many draft dodgers back in the Viet Nam days if they just learned to eat their way out of shape. I always knew those folks were stupid...now I know why! They couldn't figure out that they didn't have to go to Canada, they just needed to buy more cheetos! Oops, I like Cheetos.....

You Just Have To See This
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
What argument? I merely present something to think about...not sure you did, however. -
Well, tough loss to take, but when teams get "hot" at the right time, well.so it goes. The ladies had a nice run this year and as they are fairly young they will be even better next season. I know Coach Hedlund will replace his seniors with a new group of quality players...many from right here in the DFW area. I appreciate and compliment all the players on their season, but am especially grateful to the seniors who have led this team on and off the pitch. Great job senior ladies...I wish you nothing but the very best going forward and I thank you for the leadership you have shown and for your dedication and hard work. GO MEAN GREEN!

You Just Have To See This
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Not saying I disagree with you on the term limits thing...But...with term limits you throw out the good with the bad. While we do have a form of term limits...it's called the ballot box every 2, 4 6 years depending...it is very tempting to favor term limits. I just would hate to see the very few good reps and senators thrown out with all the crooks and cronies we now have in DC. It takes several years for a rep to even get to know his/her way around the capital...and, think about this for a moment...with term limits what you are doing is giving more and more power to the bureaucrats that run the congressional and senatorial offices. It surprise some to know that these un-elected staffers have a great deal of sway in DC and "young in term" senators and congressmen often lean very heavily on their staffers to make "their" decisions. Some of the staffers simply stay in DC for what could be termed a career. Also, on top of the staffers, you have all the departmental bureaucrats that are "professional" government workers. They, too, held sway the mind of congressman and senators and have much more influence in the "early" years of an elected officials term/s in DC. So, term limits, would, in effect, be transferring some of the "governance" that we would all like to see be cleaned up through term limits, simply to DC bureaucrats. Again, not saying I wouldn't favor term limits, but there are several issues, many of which are not so simple to discern, involved in making this decision. With that being said, the mid-term elections are here in 2010, so are you going to help set some term limits for some folks or will you help maintain the status quo? Your decision...vote or not. -
What? facts? How dare you bring up the facts....Truth does hurt sometimes, especially when "your guy" is in the White House. This program was a "face palm" from the very start, throughout the program's administration and now the studies are showing what many folks knew from the very beginning. The program was a dud from the "get go". Now, about that govt. run health care thing......
-
You are kidding about the cost, right? How do they charge for an exhibition with TWU no less? Let's just hope the Mean Green win and don't get tripped up like the Syracuse men did in the "exhibition" opener this year. From what I have read, the ladies should be fun to watch and much better in sync this season. I'm looking forward to seeing them play. GO LADIES...GO MEAN GREEN!
-
Just another example of how well the federal govt. can run anything...and some want it to run their health care programs...go figure! Sort of like the 4 year old getting that first time home buyer rebate...another great example of the govt. running an ill conceived and ill executed program. Can't wait for the "change" to govt. run health care. It just keeps getting funnier and funnier with these guys.

This is one time I will not be happy to be on a soccer field. I have to referee three soccer games that morning and will not get off the pitch until after the groundbreaking....man, that hurts, but I have already promised to referee that morning thinking the groundbreaking would be closer to kick-off or after the game or the evening before the game...Oh, well...must honor the commitment...who will sneak me one the super duper groundbreaking souvenirs????? Come on...someone, please!!!!!!!

I'm liking this more and more!!! Go MEAN GREEN!
