  1. And, guess what...there is a rising tide in Sooner Nation'ville that thinks Stoops is doing a "bad job" and it might be time to look for a new head coach! Wow, let's hire him at UNT! You know, where he can really make the big bucks...surely Bob Stoops would never have a bad year....however, what OU calls a bad year, I would love to see this season at UNT! HA! LongJim is correct...interesting and valid comments from Stoops...with some application for UNT as mentioned. Thanks for posting the link...
  2. This line of thinking regarding RV just makes me laugh. Such nonsense that it should be on SNL with Michael Moore as the host. RV has done a very good job for UNT, and, I believe is still doing a great job. Football is not his only challenge. If you can't look at the overall picture and see just how far UNT has come under RV, well, you simply are not looking. Yes, I know, I tend to try to find the positives, but it certainly is not hard in the case of RV to do so. Like TD or not, there are times when an AD makes the call and it doesn't pan out as quickly as he would have liked or, for that matter, as fast as the fan base would have liked. All this speculation on who UNT 'should" have and/or "could have" hired is great for board discussion, but it is simply worthless in reality. Speculate all you want, but the constant we had money, we don't have money, could have had this hero (if he was so great why was he on the market at the time?0, should have hired this guy. Isn't Monday morning quarterbacking and coaching fun? Never make a bad call that way. Seems to me that many of today's "great college coaches" have had some very rocky years in their careers...I like Lou Holtz (hey, UNT should have hired him.....), but seems he has a good many tough years on the resume too...I can go on and on with such names...including ex-NFL coaches that are now in the USFL (what do you call that new league?), coaching at colleges and there are plenty of ex-college coaches coaching HS now...and it goes the other way too. A "hot commodity" coach is like a "hot stock market tip"...it may be up and hot now, but past success does not guarantee future results. Anyway, fun to read...not going to matter at all...TD and RV will be here next season. Let's see how that goes for TD. BUT, prior to that, the MEAN GREEN NATION needs to "suck it up" and fill Fouts field in support of the seniors on the team and in support of the young men who play for West Point and will one day very soon defend this great nation of ours. GO MEAN GREEN!
  3. UNT WINS TONIGHT...Both the men and the ladies! Ok, I'm really certain about the men, but after TWU beat the ladies...it might just be a real battle...but the UNT ladies also find a way to win. GO MEAN GREEN! Everyone knows my basketball predictions are much better than my football one's,right?
  4. Got it. Understand. He's creative enough to find a "good way" to do this one...What would a game week be without a avatar???? I think he can/will find a way...Current members of the armed forces and veterans alike know how to have a good time...sometimes even at their own expense...so, just make it funny...
  5. Nothing at all wrong with showing our fine soldiers...lots of respectful ways to do that, and veterans, you know those who have actually served, are usually the last ones to cry foul or take the PC road. Every vet I know well, enjoys a good laugh and know how to have a good time. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it...use the Tank Army graphic if you wish...no problem there, but, hey, be creative....
  6. FIRE VIC TRILLI...fire him now!!!!! UNT can find a better coach for twice the price!
  7. Don't recall when Hedlund arrived, but pretty darn good record...pretty darn good coach. Softball is much better than it has been...as is golf and tennis. Women's BB will get better...give Stephens a chance to get the team she wants and then let's rate her performance. Volleyball, well, might could see some improvement there too, but don't know that much about the program.
  8. Good deal...see you at the game tonight! I knew you could do it...my faith is restored. Hmmmmmmmmm....
  9. Some might even pay to park and buy some Mean Green gear and food. Imagine that!
  10. Quoner, if you would get off this board and get some work done during "normal hours" you might not have to work until 10:00pm and you could make the BB game tonight...just saying...me, slow day and I am all alone at the office today, so I can stay on and poke fun at you!
  11. There's that "promotions" thing once again. Do you think the dept. has just decided to stop promoting athletics at UNT until the stadium is built or something else strange in thinking like that concept? E-Mails to Mean Green Club members are nice, but that just isn't my idea of a promotions plan. I'm thinking that "promotion" is a word missing from the vocabulary these days within the athletic dept. I ask again, does anyone know if the Athletic dept. actually has a degreed professional in charge of promotions. If so, I want that job...no work and full pay. Great job if you can get it. I received an email flyer from OSU yesterday announcing the date for homecoming in 2010 and some promotions centered around homecoming...with a note and link about hotels, etc. It came from the ALUMNI Association...seems the alumni assoc. has already been "up to the necks" in planning for 2010 homecoming and getting out the "save the date" info to their members. WOW...promoting homecoming already. I know it diod not come from the athletic dept., but it is simply an example of forward looking promo. I even receive promo's from the University of central Missouri about games activities, homecoming activities, etc. And, guess what...none of it arrives the day AFTER the event took place. Amazing. Oh, well...it's hard for the Mean Green fans to "pump it up" on their own without some help from the university itself...just saying.
  12. And, what about that record in basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, track, cross country, golf, swimming, diving, etc., etc. The AD has much more to deal with than one program...even if that program is one of the biggest. If I am evaluating an AD, I would look across the board at all sports, all academic issues, all gender issues, development and fundraising issues, etc., etc. And, yes, that includes the hiring (and firing) of coaches and "other" dept. personnel. All of this with an eye to the budget issues the AD is working with during his/her tenure. Records are important, make no mistake about that, but other factors play in my evaluation as well. That being said, what is RV's record in football W's and L's since arriving?
  13. Micah Mosely should play wherever he wants to play on this team. The kid is a "gamer" and he can bring the "pain". I love to watch Micah play, and I'm sorry I haven't gotten to see enough of him this year as the team seems loaded with RB's. The team needs Micah on the field as often as they can get him there...in whatever position he wants to play. If it be LB, great...TE great (if you will throw to him every once in awhile). Just get this kid on the field for the Mean Green!!!
  14. Nice STARS game promo. I'm looking for a little promo for and from UNT. Let's see you get "special" tickets through UNT for a Stars game, but there is no special ticket promo for the Army game by UNT. I guess the Stars do have a promo dept. up and working. Who thinks that UNT was the one who came up with this idea for the Stars game? Just wondering, but I'd guess that someone from the Stars organization contacted UNT to get this ball rolling. You think UNT will be selling tickets to the Army game on the plaza? Or, setting up a discount ticket deal for the Army game if you joined in the Mean Green night with the Stars...I don't know, any number if ideas come to mind here... I so badly want Fouts to be filled for the Army game for many reasons. I want the Mean Green's win to be witnessed by as many folks as possible, I want the stadium groundbreaking to be a great success, I want the folks to show up and support the young men and women who attend West Point, and I want folks to show their support for the Mean Green and especially the team's seniors who have been through quite a lot and given quite a lot over their tenure with the Mean Green...it will be a GREAT day...made even "greater" with a full stadium! GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. My wife says the same thing...but, she means it as a compliment. Don't tell her I said that, she may not realize it's a compliment.
  16. No sour grapes here...getting the job done without any help from the department...and we will continue to support the athletic dept at our events whether they help us fund UNT scholarships or not...just the facts as they are...not all streets run two ways, but we still drive on them! And, as I recall, you promised to purchase a Tank Army shirt...I still have it waiting for you!
  17. No way...just tired of all the same old lames excuses for not supporting the Mean Green. If it hit too close to home, you have my apologies...no offense meant to you personally Green P1. Will you be at the game this evening? Hope so.
  18. Even if you were not, you'd probably find some excuse why you couldn't meet up with me at the game for a coke or something. So, everyone works until 10PM...that's the big excuse now???? Surley the "magic" Quoner could find some way to "beam into the game" without those at work knowing. You know you can with your magic powers....
  19. DeepGreen...you are correct...I get my Mean Green Club flyer announcing game day deck activities on MONDAY after the game also. My wife and I get a big laugh out of that. How hard can it be to get the mailings out in time to arrive the Friday BEFORE the game? I guess it takes a rocket scientist. Ha...too funny, but, of course, members know what is going on with the deck so the lateness of the flyer is of no real significance...except, of course, what it says about our athletic department.
  20. Hey, there is a game tonight against Newman...yes, it's an exhibition, but it's MEAN GREEN BASKETBALL. Anyone going? Wife and I will be there in the "usual spot". Coach Trilli is the AD at Newman...maybe we can welcome him back to the Super Pit. Let me guess, it's a night game, so certainly the students and fans will not be able to show up...man, if it were only a day game. There, a ready made excuse for poor attendance by the student body and fans...I'll wager there will be many more alums and fans in the stands than students...always are...I wonder why? Any buzz around campus about the start of the basketball season? I hope so...team looks to be ready to contend for the title BIG TIME this season...GO MEAN GREEN. All you folks "giving up" on the football team should come to the Super Pit this evening and start the BB season off with a decent crowd. Can't wait to hear all the excuses...just can't get to Denton for a 7PM tip off, it's Wednesday and I have to go to church (OK, you might get a pass on that one), it's JUST an exhibition game, it's a week night, I don't like Coach Dodge, the team doesn't use a tight end, I don't like the way the new business building looks, the new stadium won't seat enough people, I had to study, my girlfriend/boyfriend doesn't like basketball, Johnny Jones will only play his own son at point guard (oh, that's right Josh White isn't really Johnny's son, but that won't really matter), etc. Come on...it's basketball season at UNT...let's get it on...see you there!
  21. Hey, I was just wondering where the "hype" for the Army game is these days? I have not even seen any mention of the Black Knights, and flyover (helicopter perhaps, not F-15"s as the Army doesn't fly the F-15), and pre-game festivities including Army members, any "fill Fouts field" campaign, etc., etc. In reality the only thing has been the Denton Alumni Chapter's "Tank Army" t-shirt campaign...which, I might add the Athletic Dept. has been absolutely NO HELP with even though they have been asked for assistance several times all the while the Denton Chapter has promoted the Athletic Dept. loudly and often at their events...but, I digress.....where is the hype and build-up for this game? Sure, the record is not so great, but can we not get fired up for the Cadets of West Point? Can the Athletic Dept.do something here to build a bit of excitement??? OK, a legit question here...does the athletic dept. have a full-time Sport's Information Director or a full-time promotions director??? I do not mean student interns or grad students or part-time "part of my job" folks...I mean full-time college grad with experience trained professionals in these two positions? If so, I have not a clue who they might be. If not, WHY NOT???? Just asking.... Come on...I really think the Mean Green faithful can fill Fouts for the Army game...it would help just a tad bit if the athletic dept itself seemed to be interested in doing the same thing? And, do not tell me it is too early...it may be too late, but it certainly ids not too early.
  22. Of course...it's not HIS fault, he was bullied! Poor baby. Let's see, he was bullied (where is the proof of that?), so now...no problem just get some guns and go slaughter a bunch of unarmed soldiers. I get it. Poor baby...maybe his mother was mean to him too...or maybe he didn't get a trophy for playing on his 4th grade baseball team...or maybe his teachers didn't let him go potty when he wanted to do so...you know all those great justifications for slaughtering unarmed soldiers! The kicker is that the "powers that be" these days are so weak-kneed and "PC cowered" that the guy will probably end up being tried in a civilian court on an insanity defense...or maybe the "bullied defense". Poor baby, he was just so mistreated that this was bound to happen, and it certainly cannot be linked to any of his own responsibility for his actions...people were just so mean to him.....
  23. So, let's see if we can get Whitten to play for us...or maybe Brett Farve. I do, however, love the tight end getting into the scheme and keeping the ball moving. Seems to me to be a pretty good move. But.....
