  1. Agree OT. Good things will happen with a DeLoach coached defense for the Mean Green!
  2. Nice...good for them...way to go...so what? I like the crowd size too...if this were UNT's first season and UNT was 7-0, there would be more in the stands than USA had...heck UNT had 23,000 one game and stands with 2 wins. OK, I know...nice job U S A.
  3. Rick, my nephew is a sniper in Afghanistan, and he reports the same sort of "changing" guidelines. Maybe this is the "change" Mr. Obama promised in action? The guy can't seem to make a decision regarding troop levels and action planning for Afghanistan. That's what I like in the Commander-in-Chief....stick your head in the sand, do nothing and hope for positive change. You go, Mr. Prez. That's leadership! Make a friggin' decision........
  4. OK, so you meet both the above goals...seems to me you are really hoping no one like to go for it on fourth and a foot very often. If only UNT could meet these goals on D....hey, we have a coach with a bunch of college experience in charge of the Defense...he should be able to meet these goals, right? I think he can..."Just Do It"! I like Muschamp and the attitude and confidence he brings to his defensive unit. I fully expect DeLoach to bring this same attitude to the UNT defense. GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. Yes, I definitely would. RATS will do anything to escape when the ship is sinking!!!!
  6. So, why no prediction board? It's Friday already...let's kick this off on a positive note with my prediction of: UNT 32 FIU 23 The Mean Green fly home from Florida with a win!!!! Go Mean Green!
  7. Not often would I agree COMPLETELY with SilverEagle, but I do think he is "spot on" with this idea. Coach Fry successfully changed the culture of the football program and he built a winner at UNT. If only he had been able to change the culture of the administration at the same time. UNT might well be playing in the Big XII right now. Coach Dodge faces a daunting task in trying to change the culture, and as he is probably finding out, it is harder than he ever imagined. Good thoughts here, SilverEagle. You, indeed, may have hit the "nail on the head". On another note... UNT 32 FIU 23 The Mean Green come home with the WIN! GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. So, nice exhibition win, but Friday's game counts...so who will be watching the Mean Green in person at the Pit Friday????? I hope we can get the spirit band out, a great big group of Pit Crew rowdies and a good turnout from the alums and fans. Need to make some noise and get this season started in the right direction. Can we get at least 4-5,000 in the Super Pit Friday? I know that's stretching but if the fans and students decide to turn out. Well, could happen and how much fun would that be??? Way cool, and a great way to let the team and JJ know he has support. Any buzz being generated around campus? Any posters or promo working? It's not like this game is a week or two away. No home football game to interfere with the crowd...so, can we get a nice rowdy crowd going for Friday??? I sense a win for the Mean Green. Be there to see it IN PERSOPN..if you can...and I hope you can. Bostonsports...bring a bunch of green wig wearing loud students with you Friday.... GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. Really, why does anyone care where Vizza is enrolled? I don't. The guy is not enrolled at UNT. I wish him well where ever he may be, and good luck good bye. I care about the players playing for UNT..not so much those who have decided to leave the program. Vizza could have stayed and worked hard and been part of this program. He chose not to...his decision. Good bye-good luck. See ya! GO MEAN GREEN!
  10. How very surprising.
  11. You are right...pretty funny, BUT, I sort of like they guys attitude. I am sure another plane can get him to his destination...pretty funny.
  12. Does that "job with a ton of crappy baggage" in college athletics extend to the Head Coach and the AD as well? Your definition of "anger and outrage" is one bunch different than mine it seems. I am angry and outragged at no one...that does no good. Seems however, sir, that the outrage and anger is yours. You might want to check some of the tenor and tone of your posts. Sorry if the "discussion" hit a little close to home for you with the media/promo focus. Had no clue you were so sensitive to that. Hmmmmmm...just thinking that the Army game might be something interesting to "push"...I wonder if there are any angles with any team members or families from UNT and West Point that could be "pushed" from a human interest and sports viewpoint? Maybe a local kid playing for Army that is friends with a UNT player/family with some interesting story-line. But, not being the crack media/promo guy that you certainly are, maybe that just isn't of interest to anyone. I would guess not. If the "floundering and irrevlevant" football team itself in one of the largest media markets in the nation is not good press than maybe a human interest angle could get some attention. I don't know, but I am sure you will be more than happy to point out why this too is a bad idea.
  13. Great read. I agree and to add a supporting statement regarding his efficiency ratings...our son is a Navy Lt. (that would be the same rank as Capt. in the Army) and a medical doctor who attended the same med school in DC as did Maj. Hasan and was at Walter Reed at the same time. No, does not recall ever running into the guy while at Walter reed. He agreed with what your brother said about the efficiency rating and went so far as to say that in the medical corps. promotion to Major (or Lt. Commander in the Navy) is all but 100% certain given the lack of medical personnel available to the military. He verified that the medical guys get a much higher percentage of promotion to major than the regular office corps folks just due to the nature of the job and the challenges the military faces getting and keeping medical professionals. I was shocked that his efficiency ratings could be so bad and he still get promoted to major. When I was in the Air Force (Viet Nam era) it was 85-90% promotion to Captain, but after that the percentages dropped a good bit. One could not (without some years of prior enlisted service) make a 20-year career in the military without at least being promoted to major. So, lots of guys got out as Captains without ever making major after as many as 10+ years of service simply because they were "passed over for major" a determined number of times. It was two tries for reserve Air Force Officers and three tries at major for "regular" Air Force officers during my time. I have no clue how the Army or navy does it...but, as my son mentioned, the medical guys are almost always promoted to at least major regardless of the OER's. Interesting, but says something about supply and demand I would guess. My God bless and keep your bother and all our great men and women who serve no matter where they may be stationed. As events at Ft. Hood demonstrate, no place, it seems, is safe if you wear the uniform.
  14. Amen to that!
  15. I have...and, oh, that's not nice! So, you a behavior analyst now? Psychologist maybe???? Name calling is so un-Quoner. Tsk Tsk. Nice to have someone defend the SID with such emotion. If you can't make your point any other way...at least you could be more creative with the name calling. Is the SID your brother-in-law or something or does he perhpas have pictures???? So, let me get this staright...it's OK to bash the head coach and the AD, but to question the SID and Promo guy...well, that's just going too far. Nice to know the guidelines...sorry to have offended your ever so sensitve sense of correctness. I know, just having fun.
  16. [quote name='Quoner' date='Nov 12 2009, 09:56 AM' post='454541' Hope that helped. Let me know if you need help wiping or cleaning up the toilet seat later today. I'm always here to help!
  17. Not surprised he can dunk at all...surprised his was the first of the season.
  18. You are kidding, right? This is even "way out there" for you. I have to smile about this one...great comedy. Thanks TLF.
  19. But, of course, you don't.
  20. Yes, they do. My nephew wears it every day in Afghanistan.
  21. BTW...not one word or even a box score regarding the Men's or Women's games against Newman appear in this mornings Dallas Morning News Sports pages...I looked three times for any mention...even a score...not to be found...but they did have the Robert Morris-Syracuse and the NC-NC Central scores listed and some info on Boise State, SMU, TCU, OSU, OU, Baylor, Texas, Alabama, etc., etc. Maybe the score and a write-up will appear in tomorrow's appear...if so, it will probably carry a Brett Vito by-line. I have no clue if the SID is responsible in any way for local media content and getting UNT "in the news".
  22. Yep, first dunk of the season by the Mean Green came from Collin Mangrum. Who would have expected that? And, SUMG is correct...nice play by Collin.
  23. Amazing what one can find inside bills being rammed through Congress...especially the House version of the Healthcare Reform Act. The Wall Street Journal this morning points out some very interesting items such as: A 69% increase in Capital Gains Tax...the last time this happened the experience was not a good one for tax revenues as it actually decreased the amount of capital gains tax revenue collected. Imagine that...you raise taxes, you get less tax revenue into the treasury, you lower taxes and tax revenues increase...a very simple concept obviously wasted on the fine folks who crafted this piece of crap legislation. A "bailout for plaintiffs attorneys"...the Wall Street Journal calls it a "Buried Tort Bomb". The bill sets up some great stuff for lawyers and lawsuits and, in effect, removes many of the caps placed on such lawsuits by over 30 states though some very creative wording regarding "incentives". When Texas placed a cap on these often frivolous lawsuits, it saw a 50% drop in the cost of malpractice insurance and a flood of new doctors according to the Journal. get ready.... The more one really finds out about this piece of garbage legislation the more there is to not like. One can only hold out hope that the Senate has some backbone and that the Congressman get an earful from their voters "back home" before it is too late. Maybe the Senate can keep the thing from getting too far before the 2010 mid-terms and the House members wanting to get re-elected will run like scared rabbits back into their holes...or, even better, get thrown out of office. Unfortunately, the mid-terms are really too far away to be any kind of help, but one can dream. This is an amazing piece of legislation, but the "good news" is that folks are waking up to many of the problems this bill creates and may have the opportunity to force some changes before it is too late. Anyway, good stuff in the Journal today...maybe you would want to take a look.
  24. Early season and it showed in some pretty sloppy play, but I agree with SUMG and Tasty. Crowd was better than I expected, but very empty around our seats just off mid-court and beside the press box area. Hopefully, will fill up for the Cameron game. I thought the student crowd was pretty OK for an exhibition game, but the whole Pit was just super quiet most of the game. No vibe no excitement in the air which I found a bit strange for the first game. My wife mentioned it and she rarely notices such things. Well, with the great GMG.com-er Bostonsports doing play by play and/or color for a class assignment and not revving up the student section in his green wig, I blame him for the quiet gym! He'll be in his rightful place Friday for the Cameron game. That WILL make it right again! I think this team needs to get into "game shape" and get their feel for the flow of the game and it could very well turn out to be one of JJ's best teams ever. I think 20 plus wins is a doer and am looking for that SBC tourney win for this bunch...I liked what i saw and will like it even more as the season progresses...I pretty darn sure of that. Another win Friday against Cameron...be there to see the Mean Green tip it off. GO MEAN GREEN. Thanks for all who managed to make it out for the game. Saw several GMG.com members. Good job! GO MEAN GREEN!
  25. VERY glad to know that. Amazing it took so long for someone to clue me in on who the guy was...I think you state the obvious when you say "SIF directors are not promotions directors", but seems you always do have a very firm grasp of the obvious. OK, that's supposed to be a joke...don't go nuts on me.... So, UNT has a "true professional" as a SIF. OK, I'll certainly take your word for that as I had no clue who he was or even if one existed. My bad. Now, pray tell, what does the SIF office do under the command of said "true professional" to get the word out in the DFW area about UNT? Rarely do I see any mention of UNT Athletics on the 6PM or 10PM news coverages from local stations...often UNT is not even mentioned in the Dallas Morning News regarding team events, win/losses, etc. Everything I read seems to have a Brett Vitto by line and is a reprint from a Denton Record Chronicle article. HS sports get better placement in the News than UNT does, etc. So, how does this work in the SID world. Is it all about wins and losses? If so, why have a SID at all? You win...you get coverage...you lose nothing and nothing changes that...why pay for an SID? I assume the job involves getting the program as much play as possible...BUT, probably the duties are so much broader than that...like I say...and definitely admit...not so clued in to said SID duties. Maybe the job is just to talk to other SID's and get things set up media-wise for game days, etc. I don't know. So, Old Times, you obviously have the inside track on the position here at UNT...what makes our SID "great". Besides, of course, probably being a great guy...sort of like TD. I will admit right now to being "under-educated" about the full range of duties of a college SI Director, so I am, in no way, meaning to throw our SID "under the bus". That would be very unfair as I have so little info on the deal at UNT. I am really asking questions as it seems the SID and the Promo folks (still no one has mentioned that person's name...Old Timer do you know the answer here too?) might...just might want to work together to "get the word out" about UNT athletics...not JUST the football team. Thanks in advance for the help. And, that's not a joke. And, please...Quoner...no of your so predictable...Kram is being negative stuff...I am not...I just want to know the deal here as I really had no idea we had a "true professional" in the position and I, obviously, do not know what the duties really are for the SID and his team!
