I am sure you will...but then, what else is new? And, yep, I get big bucks from the volunteer work I do supporting UNT and its students....that's why I do it. You know, I give my time and dollars so I can reap the BIG REWARDS! I don't recall seeing any reward from all my self-serving, as you call it, other than the "thanks" from the students we support with scholarships and the "thanks" from the players who know I support them and the program. BTW...I seem to recall saying that your point and question was 100% valid...but, then again, that was pretty self-serving.

Never happen...Quoner won't show. If he does....make him buy you two beers and make him take a drink out of both first before you dare drink from the cup...just saying........... -
And, SilverEagle, I think we have heard too much of your question. It has been asked and answered...get over it! BTW, I do not believe that any of the responders have "blind faith" in the situation. I believe they generally have their eyes open and have a different opinion than you do about Coach Dodge's ability to get the job done in recruiting. There are many D-1 head coaches on a "short string". They continue to recruit. In case you haven't noticed, the job security of a D-1 head coach is never really settled....look around. Your point and question is 100% valid, but it has been asked and answered...move along!

Just so you might know...the World Cup Draw is on ESPN2 today at 11:00AM. The US was placed in "pot 2" so will not see Mexico in the first round for sure...too bad...US can take Mexico...but may meet in round 2 if the US advances. The US is reported to have had the 4th hardest road (toughest draw) of the 20 teams that have played in the past four World Cups. I hope that changes today. By the way, four years ago over 300 million people watched the draw. Pretty decent ratings, but whose counting? USA...USA...USA...USA....Goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal !!!!!!!!! And also...GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!

OK, let's be kind enough to appreciate the 4 titles won by DD. No member of the Mean Green Nation will forget the fun times in New Orleans and the thrill of winning the SBC crown...and a New Orleans Bowl....but, let's also face the fact the the Sunbelt was a "terrible" conference back during DD's days where most good HS teams could beat several of the conference teams. This is in no way to discredit the players DD had and the effort they gave to win those games and the SBC crown. I am very proud of the UNT team during those conference runs. But, what was the record most of those years entering conference play? Money games...just like today...were lost as were most other Out of conference games. Look, if DD had not stopped recruiting, not gotten cross-wise with the fan base and actually had a half-way exciting offense the last year or so, he might well still be the UNT head coach or a head coach at another university. I agree 100% when one says that if DD was so good as a head coach why has he not taken another head coaching position????? Or, for that matter, the OC position at a much bigger conference school? DD did some things right during his time at UNT, but the whole thing just soured toward the end...no one is dissing the conference crowns...winning those conference crowns is not what got DD fired! Really, it wasn't. Anyway, the DD/TD line of thought is just so boring....let's move on. We have 2010 to look forward too...let's get on with recruiting and building for 2010. It's a done deal...deal with it....and get ready to tailgate!

Greenjoe...I think it just might if it were located very near UNT. Could also carry related items like Frat and sorority items perhaps....Would have to get involved locally, you know better than I do how that works...and make it "priced right"...BUT, given a decent rent and payroll picture, it might have a fighting chance of success.

Well, first thing I would do would be to keep them away from all the naysayers we have on this board. I would also let them know that UNT needed them to help turn the program around and into the winning program it can and should be...they could actually PLAY instead of possibly sitting on the bench at some other school. That they would be getting a quality education at an emerging research institution with an engineering school, business school, med school, etc., etc. I would show them how the team was so close in many games the previous season and how they could have helped UNT win those games. I would tell them about the job opportunities for UNT grads after graduation, and about the opportunities they had while attending UNT...such as the great co-eds that some have already mentioned...you bet your life I would talk about "campus life" and coeds at UNT. There is nothing more a young man would probably like to hear after talking football than to start talking "ladies"....I would point out the new stadium that is a reality for then, the facilities in all sports that have been vastly improved over the last few years, and I would talk to the young man and his parents about my expectations for both the players and the program so there would be no mistake about what was expected of them as a student and a team member at UNT. And, then, of course, I'd tell them all the regular stuff..... If anyone thinks UNT has no basis to recruit quality players, well...no one is going to convince them otherwise...not even the players who are signed. Just thought I'd drop my 2 cents worth in the pot....Glad to see TD back...GO MEAN GREEN!

Matters not, Quoner, whether people find out or not...you are still a bum when you break your marriage vows and cheat. There was a time, ala Jack Kennedy, when even presidents could get away with it away from the public eye...ask Bill Clinton how he wished it was still that way...however, it doesn't make it any better...even for Joltin' Joe or Ty Cobb or Thomas Jefferson for that matter. -
Hmmmmmmm...no wonder I like you...GO COWBOYS!!!! Yes, I am a fella OSU grad as well...did graduate work at OSU...LOVE the place...every one of my memories are great...even though...the football team was not so great when I was attending. Interestingly enough...the student body and alums still turned out for the games...imagine that! But, 1st love has to go to UNT...my undergrad school. Anyway...thanks again for all your support and for Charley's hard work. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!

Check this 1948 cartoon out that was produced by Harding College. It's a bit long, but really seems appropriate for today as well as it did in 1948...interesting food for thought. I do hope this link works...not good at this "hi-tech" stuff...Ha! Harding college put this out in 1948. Look at this: click on this >> 1948 Cartoon http://nationaljuggernaut.blogspot.com/200...ed-in-1948.html

And, she has a twin sister! How hot is that????? The guy is ABSOLUTELY NUTS! What in the sam hill was he thinking????????? Amazing...but, as did the Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriquez, etc., etc. "revelations" this too shall pass...sadly. It's just another indication of the "celebrity worship" this nation has developed that it is getting so much "press time and air play". This "stuff" just really gets my goat...if you get married "play" at home and only at home...or get divorced. Tiger...keep it ZIPPED...except at home and concentrate on your golf game! Good grief!!!!! -
Thanks for "loaning" Charley to "us" for a short while, and yes, I am proud of him too. I hope your son does not share your view that he has played HS football. I think he was with a group of much bigger, faster and more skilled players than he saw in HS. My point was that the "drunk fans" certainly did not keep your SON from signing with UNT. Coach Dodge has had some pretty decent signing classes too...as did Coach Dickey when he was actually recruiting. One of the many things that got him canned was the fact that he pretty much stopped recruiting. Yep, life has been pretty tough for UNT tight ends recently, and I, for one, cannot understand that logic...or non-logic as it were....to me, the tight end could be a very key link in the UNT offense...I long for the day when the tight end is once again an integral part of the offense...I am hopeful that will happen this next season. One can hope! Good luck to Charley with his grad work...all the Mean Green Nation is proud of Charley right along with you!

Riley will head to spring ball the #1 QB...and, I believe will EARN the #1 spot coming out of spring ball. Clearly the best option UNT has at QB at the moment. There will be many on this board, led by the ever "dissing Riley", Emmitt, that will believe that Riley did not EARN the #1 spot, but was given the spot by TD. Silly, silly folks. TD's job and reputation, as well as UNT's rebuilding program and new stadium project, depend in large part on how the team performs next season. So, how can anyone think that the Head Coach would play anyone who he does not think has earned his position? It just amazes me how some folks think a guy would risk his career in that manner. Give it a rest. I also agree, that folks on this board should think a bit more before they post player specific like and dislikes. Praise for an individual player would certainly be great, but the "dissing" (is that really a word these days?) and constant ragging on individual players should be reconsidered. You think a head coach would never bench his kid...check out Colorado...another struggling program that decided to give its head coach another year.
-
So, you signed with the Mean Green why if the "drunk fans" were so bad????? I never support "drunk fans", but in all the years I have been in the stands at Fouts, i will say, the last DD year was the closest I have ever come to having to be drunk to attend a game...boring football, and just sad! UNT fans certainly owe DD nothing, but, I agree, that bad fan behavior is not a good recruiting tool...but, it sure doesn't seem to hurt folks like LSU...just saying..and, yes, DD certainly reaped what he sowed. I agree with that 100%. GO MEAN GREEN!

TRUE DAT! Darn spell check!

I'm there...time to look to 2010...Good luck Coach Dodge and Staff on a successful 2010...see you at Fouts.

My bride and I will be in our seats next season supporting the Mean Green. As I have said numerous times, college football is a great way to spend a fall afternoon, and UNT IS MY SCHOOL, so it has my support. I'll admit to being a bit "puzzled" with the "no change" deal, but, so be it. The decision is made...go have a few beers, get mad or get happy, get your basketball face on and go ahead and purchase those season football tickets for next year. I do agree that this is no time to abandon ship and stop supporting the Mean Green. While we may not see the "reason" for all this, decision made...done deal...let's move forward with the thing we CAN CONTROL and that is our support for the MEAN GREEN. If you decide to not renew season tickets or stop donating to your school, please take the time to personally call RV and let him know. Not in an "ugly or hateful manner", just let him know who you are and why you have decided to stop supporting the program. If you don't, it won't do much good...like getting a meal you didn't like at a restaurant and just leaving without telling the manager...not the wait staff. I believe RV would like to hear from you...you might even give him the opportunity to explain a few things to you that you don't know that might...might...allow you to re-think your position. I know that sounds "radical" for some of you here on GMG.COM, but it would be the right and proper thing to do IF you want to have your voice heard. Also, phone the head of the dept. at UNT that you used to donate to and tell them why you are withdrawing all UNT support dollars because of the football team's poor on-field performance. Again, you would let folks know why you are making the decision you are and why you think it is the right thing to do at this time. Could make a difference in how the university proceeds in the future. If you don't let folks know (in a polite and professional manner, of course) you will really have no impact. I would imagine that season ticket sales will be at or above the same levels we have recently seen next season. Too bad, UNT needs the season ticket base to grow. I do hope those that stick by the program will get first shot at seats in the new stadium. I am guessing they will, and rightfully so. Might want to put that into the thought process too. OK, I must say here, that while my support remains solid, I fully understnad why some would choose otherwise, and I do not believe they are any less a member of the Mean Green Nation. Some folks just cannot "handle it" any longer. Ok, so be it...the part I can't see is cutting off all support, like some have mentioned, for UNT BEACUSE you don't like the W/L record or coach of the football team. That, to me, makes absolutely NO SENSE and smacks of someone just looking for some reason to not make a donation. Have a few beers and chill out...then strap on your Green and join me and the bride in the stands at Fouts next season.

Obama's Speech Tonight
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Thanks for your service EagleGreen, but I must disagree...as a Vietnam era vet, I had no desire to see LBJ's face in person as I knew what it would entail...a lot of unneeded prep, being told when to show up, how to dress, what to say or not say, when to act "interested", etc., etc. Most of the "presidential" visits were all for show as was Obama's last evening. Anyway, he can read very well. Did anyone else notice the number of Cadets that appeared to be taking a "nap" during the speech and all the "polite applause"? Hey, those young men and women work hard and endure long days...a little cat nap here and there is just fine with me...even if Reagan were doing the speaking. -

Any PR is Good PR.... Just tell that to the Dallas Police forces union when the next cop gets busted for stepping over the line. Does that stuff make the Dallas Police the laughing stock of the world? I doubt it. I think the Dallas cops (and most any police forces for that matter) does a great job with limited resources in a pretty tough neighborhood like "Dallas". But, stuff happens...I do not ever recall standing around the water cooler at work and talking about how embarrassing it is to have a police force like Dallas has or how glad I am that I no longer live in Dallas because the cops are so embarrassing....I have also never heard anyone tell me they are so embarrassed for me to be a UNT grad because of the football team's w/l record. I get a "friendly jab" every once in awhile, but that is all in fun and I can give it back as well as take it. Things change given time....deal with it. Some here like to call folks "apologists"...well, how about we call the "other side" the WHINNERS? Just saying...if you can't enjoy yourself by supporting your college team...win, lose or draw...maybe you really do need to re-think some of your priorities...just saying.....It is important to me as it is to anyone else here on this board that UNT improve its football program, and I will "share the pain" with everyone else who calls themselves a member of the Mean green Nation until the wins return, but I will not EVER be personally embarrassed by the record of any football team. Come now......

I agree, this is pretty lame.

Obama's Speech Tonight
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Probably not, McCain has proved to be a hero tested under fire. The Cadets at West Point would respect him for the fire he has been under and they would know that he fully supported their efforts. Just a slight difference I would say. As to the aircraft carrier comment, I figured someone would find a way to bring Bush into the question...nicely done...however, Bush, too, as did McCain has an actual service record. However, I would say for Bush, McCain, Obama, etc....this speech needs to made from the White House...not out "grandstanding" at West Point. Obama never knows when to stop campaigning for his next election race...plus his teleprompter is all set up at the White House.
