Sam Houston State Close To Naming New Football Coach
KRAM1 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
I would think Sam Houston is desperate if DD is very high on the list. But, I do think it would be fun to see DD back for a game with UNT as the head coach of another team. Can you imagine the GMG.com chatter before and after that game????? It might just crash the whole system...Ha! The monitors would have to work double shifts to keep folks half-way civil...might even be better than the game itself! Of course, the Mean Green would win, DD would have his team in all black uniforms and run the ball up the middle 40% of the time. TD would pass 75% of the time and never use the tight end to exploit DD's defenders playing 6 yards off the ball.....what else is new? Ha! This could really get good...maybe DD would even give the UNT fans the "bird"...you know, he had such respect for the fans and all...... -
Pay for it!

OK, I see the point. I would think it should apply to golf as well. Are there that many more golfers than tennis players available? I do not see the logic in continuing to supply foreign students with scholarships so that one day maybe your program gets "good enough" to attract US born players. Why do schools such as UNT even field men's and women's tennis teams under these circumstances? Is it all about Title IX? Seems to me that most US high schools have tennis teams, there are youth tennis programs all over the country, there are tournaments for every level of player, there are tennis summer camps, paid club coaches for youth players, etc., etc. Why is the US not developing enough players to "staff" college tennis teams? Let me be clear...I like tennis, I like UNT tennis and I want to see UNT tennis stay and improve. My questions have nothing to do with any "negativity" toward UNT tennis. I just find this fairly unique and interesting and am wondering why a "small" school like UNT would want to fund a tennis program to provide scholarships to foreign born players in the hopes that one day you might be "good enough" to land a US born player. Looks to me like the US tennis federation should be all over this. It sure doesn't help develop US tennis players. As I am a soccer fan, I follow such develops in that sport...one of the reasons given why England has not done as well in recent years in the World Cup is that too many foreign born players are taking up roster spots in the English Premier and Championship Leagues and fewer and fewer English born players are getting chances to play and develop at the highest levels of play at the expense of the foreign player. Seems the same may happening to US Tennis. Is this a good long-term strategy for the sport in the US? USTF all OK with this? May be a reason the US struggles in Davis Cup and the Olympics, etc. Who knows how a kid might develop under the coaching of a solid college coach such as at UNT??? Will never know if never given the chance because the scholarship went to a foreign player. Interesting...sorry I am not that "up" on tennis to know the "in and outs", I just would like to see US players get first shot at scholarship dollars. Just seems that something is missing here...UNTblower...I really appreciate your insight here and would really like to hear more on this from you. You do seem to be our resident tennis expert. And, by the way...GO UNT TENNIS!!!!! GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING FOR UNT TENNIS!!!!!

How much do foreign players cost UNT in the way of scholarship dollars????? Not to knock the program at all because it is a solid program and one that appears to be getting better and better and getting UNT more and more recognition, BUT...what's the point of giving all the scholarship money to foreign players????? Seems we should be looking to help US born players. How are we helping develop US born tennis players if all the scholarships go to foreign-born players???? I really am just wondering about this. I know UNT is far from alone in this as it appears that college tennis has long since passed the US born player in favor of the foreign born. Why???? Are there simply not enough US born tennis players? If so, why have college tennis programs at all? The money could go to other sports...softball, swimming, driving, etc., etc. that do develop and promote US athletes. Just wondering, really, I am not knocking anything at all about the UNT program.

Sure UNT can go 4-0, they could also go 0-4, but the series of games is pretty darn important. I think UNT has a better than even chance of going 4-0, but conference games are always a bit unpredictable early in the season before each team has a chance to actually see what the other teams will look like against conference foes. It should be interesting to see the turnout for this Sunday's game against UL-Monroe. It's up against the Cowboy-Charger game at 3:15pm and it is a Sunday afternoon. What about students? Will they be back on campus...those that head out for the weekends, will the alumni turn out on a Sunday afternoon that is looking like it will be a nice day to be outside, will the "local" non-grad fans turn out? We'll see...I'll be there with the bride to see how it goes. Should be good fun and I am looking for a MEAN GREEN WIN to jump-start the conference games. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

Maybe the Cotton Bowl to watch OSU beat Mississippi.....he says, hopefully!!!!!

I think it would be great...and appropriate...to see Shu win the thing, but NO Chance this late...I do not think McCoy is OUT of the running, but Ingram sure stated his case Saturday against Florida...and given that no Alabama player has ever won the Heisman, well.......seems to be pretty well set up for Ingram.

Strength/conditioning Dept..internship Positions Open
KRAM1 replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I see this as an excellent opportunity for both the student interns and for UNT. Good to see the Athletic Dept. doing this. Has this been done in the recent past at UNT? Anyone know if this is NEW for UNT or simply the continuation of an ongoing program? I like it!!!! -
God Bless Col Barfoot and all who stand and fight for this great nation of ours. It is only fitting that we remember all our vets on this Dec. 7th...Pearl Harbor day! May his flag always fly above his home. Amazing how things have "changed" in the US these days. When a war hero cannot fly the American flag at his own home we should all be saddened. Regardless of the current HOA regs in this "neighborhood", perhaps some thought should be given to changing part of the regs NOW! If ever an exception needed to be made.......

Nope...OKIE State has the site up already for Cotton Bowl Tickets. They have already handled the serason ticket holders and are selling what's left to the general public as we speak.

I share your pain!

OK, don't get mad...just asking the question...why is this on the Mean Green Football thread???? Seems we now have several threads in no way related to Mean green football on this thread. Shouldn't they be moved? Good threads, no doubt, but where is the UNT football connection? I thought that was why the Non-UNT football site was created. Ok, press on........
-
Why do I have to wait? Is there a rule somewhere I missed in the Quoner world of GMG.com posting? Perhaps one day you may as well get it. Just having some fun with ya! Sorry you missed it!
-
Hey, tasty, did Quoner buy you that beer he promised????? Or........ Excellent win for the Mean Green. They did make it a bit tougher on themselves than they needed to do, but White did help a bunch down the stretch. I am just wondering if White is the guy UNT needs to run the point as a starter or not. Maybe he should be the two. I know this has been discussed before, but I just don't think point guards should be looking to shoot first and have as many turn overs as Josh seems to be committing these days. He's a player for certain...just not sure he would be my point guard. GO MEAN GREEN...nice win...BEAT THE AGGIES!!!!!

Attention Green Gang: '09 Home Attendance Avg Was
KRAM1 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree, I think the blog is referring to 2010 possible "apathy". And, I agree. That is one of the questions the fan base at UNT needs to answer. Does it support the program or not by "believing" in what RV and TD are trying to do in giving the head coach and his staff one more year to get it turned around. There is no disputing the fact that Mean Green fans have not been "treated" but rather "tricked" with only five wins. I know that makes some of our Mean green Nation members question their commitment to the program (and, unfortunately, some to UNT in general) and I can understand that. But, this is not, in my opinion, the time to abandon ship. If you sit down and really think about the situation, I believe you will realize that no one wants the program to suffer, and no one is doing anything but what they think is the right thing to do to "right the ship". It, as Spock might say, simply illogical to do otherwise. The reasons why the alumni and students do not support the program in larger numbers is not an easy question to answer, and really goes much much deeper than the last three years of wins and losses as this thread's attendance figures reflect. I have my thoughts on why this is the case, and I have expressed them several times on this board. But, the fact is, the Mean green nation simply has to learn how to support a team and a program. Just as the football team itself needs to learn how to win, the fan base needs to learn how to really be a fan base. The core fans (many of whom are represented right here on GMG.com) will stay with the program, but others will come and go simply due to the season record. If you want to be a big time program, the fan base must act like it and "produce" just like the team does. I am proud of the core fan base UNT has for sticking with this program for so many years of ups and downs, and I am proud to call myself a member of that fan base. Sometimes it's tough to support a team and a program and this may well be one of those times. But ask yourself how and why the Nebraska fans, the OU fans, the OSU fans stay through the tough times as well as the good times and why the SMU fans, UNT fans, etc. do not. Yes, I know UNT is not Nebraska, etc. and some here will certainly leap on that in their response, fair enough, but it is also fair to say that fans must learn to "win" as well as the team. Anyway, I think it's time to rally the troops, to stop all these threads about how bad things are with TD, how Riley is only the QB because of his dad, how UNT can't recruit given the current situation and turn instead to what is RIGHT with the program and how, we, as loyal Mean Green Nation members might help the program advance. Sometimes it is just tough to keep the faith and I realize, for some, this is definitely that time. Again, fair enough, but I ask you to give RV and TD and UNT your support for 2010, as hard as that may be for some, as YOUR team, your school and your fellow Mean Green nation members need you NOW more than ever. GO MEAN GREEN! -
World Cup Draw Today
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Definitely could be....Should be interesting to see how all the groups play out. Seems in every World Cup a team comes from "no where" to make a decent run to the qtrs or even the semi's....strap 'em on and let's get the games going! Come on 2010 in South Africa!!!!! -
Channel 8's Sports Reporter- George Riba
KRAM1 replied to Charlie NT 73's topic in Mean Green Football
It is refreshing to see some local and knowledgeable sports "personalities" favor the decision to retain Coach Dodge. Dale Hansen has never been known to be a UNT Cheerleader, and does like to take pot shots when he can. The fact that his stance was positive on the move is a "good thing" for me. Riba's comments are also very reassuring and lead some credibility as well to the move. Yes, George is the biggest supporter UNT has on the "air waves", so you can certainly understand his position. All in all, this is a good story and some much needed good PR for the UNT football program. Charlie...thanks. GO MEAN GREEN! -
Wher Will The Wins Come From ? - Part Two
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I guess that's why you play the game. To see who actually will win. I think UNT has a shot at every game BEFORE the opening whistle. You know I do because you have seen my game predictions... But, seriously, seven wins (if that really is the be all-end all) will be a real challenge. If K ST drops out and UNT can replace that game with a winnable one, chances improve dramatically. I am not about to predict wins/losses in December. I'll wait a bit and see what shapes up. It would/will be one of the great turnarounds in UNT's college football history to go from a two win to a seven win season in one year. Can happen, and "ill be in my seat at Fouts to see it happen. GO MEAN GREEN...the off-season preparations had already better have begun.....I trust and believe they have. -

Just another example of how the system works against the US fighting soldier and right into the game plan of the "bad guys". Navy Seals are some of our best and brightest....I trust they will be exonerated. -
World Cup Draw Today
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
You know...I'm thinking the Group of Death is more the: Brazil, Portugal group. How would you like to be either the Ivory Coast or the Commie Koreans and be in with both Brazil and Portugal? Ugh...want to place a bet now on the two teams coming out of Group G???? WOW! If Tasty's boys can beat Korea and get a draw with Nigeria there is hope....however, i do not disagree with the "toughness" of that group. For the first time in my life I will be cheering for the Greeks to advance out of the first round of the World Cup. You go Greece!!!!!!!! Tasty deserves our full GMG.com support for his "upset minded" World Cup Greeks. Hey, they made it to the big show and that ain't chopped liver! -
World Cup Draw Today
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
US got a decent draw. In the USA group are: England, USA, Algeria and Slovenia Schedule is: 6/12/10: US - England 6/18 - US - Slovenia 6/23 - US - Algeria. I this point I see the US beating Slovenia and Algeria...and it's a toss-up between US & England. England at this point is probably the better team. We'll see about that when the time comes...but a win and a tie against Slovenia and Algeria could get the US through to the second round, but would be much better with wins over both Slovenia and Algeria. GO USA!!!!!! WORLD CUP 2010...Can't wait! It's a REAL World Championship!!!!! Goooooooooooooooal ! USA! USA! USA!!!!!! and, of course...GO MEAN GREEN! -
I think the real "man crush" here is the one Emmitt01 has on Riley. The constant "dissing" is simply cover for the crush....
