  1. These folks represent all that is wrong with politics in DC these days...what a list of "most wanted"....
  2. Size of the "closet" is not the issue. If you don't believe that you have not been paying attention to the environment surrounding this sort of thing today. "In my day, this would have been considered no big deal at all", but then, in my day, not everyone got a trophy for just showing up, and the PC crowd had not taken over the world. Try simply disciplining an employee these days at work and see what hoops you have to go through and how HR can jump your case for nothing. Universities Are super sensitive to this stuff these days...if you do not know that, you are either from outer space or simply not paying attention. Also, Leach could sill be the TT head coach, but he let his well publicized super-sized ego get in the way. Leach gave TT the opening they were looking for...yes, I checked out the link and yes, I have been paying as much attention as I wanted to the issue. It is no big deal to me either way...I could care less about Leach and TT, but just think the whole thing got way out of hand...much due to Leach's doing. It is what it is for TT. If James is so much in the wrong as some of you want to indicate, why have some others players come to his defense and have started talking about how Leach treated his players? You may recall that a certain head coach in Kansas recently got canned for "player abuse" with a finger jab and some four letter words. It ain't your grandfather's environment out there any longer folks.....
  3. I'll be there...Greenjoe says it very well. Lots of time to make those T-Day plans to be in attendance. Let's see how all those "if we just played better teams" folks do in the way of turnout for this game or will they come up with some other excuse for not being in attendance? This could very well be a great way to say "so long" to Fouts Field....See you there...GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  4. Interesting speculation and some very good points. It is interesting to me that it appears that Leach could have stayed the TT head coach, but was so self-absorbed with being "wronged" that he just became insubordinate and that it what gave TT the opening to fire him "with cause". You may be a super star and big dog, but those that can hire and fire you still have a bit of "power" as well. Leach seems to have gotten "too big for his britches" at TT and thought he was bigger than the school and its administration. Lou Holtz, who has been through this sort of thing, really has the best take on it at this point...in my opinion. Leach just decided to play "hardball" and now it will get even messier. His insubordination and his treatment of players will take full stage here and Leach's image and reputation will definitely take a big hit. Some other TT players are talking already and seem to support James' story. This will not help Leach's image and reputation. I imagine TT will pay him off to be rid of him, but Leach loses in this deal He could have taken the high road, taken the cash and landed another BCS head coach gig quickly. Now, all that ids up in the air. In my opinion...all for the sake of Leach's ego which is reported to be fairly large! Whole situation is just too bad for all concerned. But, has no impact on UNT...so, GO MEAN GREEN! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
  5. Unfortunately, Coach lwach made a very poor decision. In today's world you simply cannot do this sort of thing...especially when you are on a bit of "thin ice" with the administration in control and with a player who happens to be the son of a nationally known, media savvy parent. Like Coach Leach or not, he is the engineer of his own demise at TT. Bad decision, and he's fired. If he is smart he'll negotiate a settlement, go on and coach elsewhere and show that he is capable of rebuilding another program like he did TT. If he drags this out through the courts and it gets messy and emabarrasing for TT, it could hurt his chances of landing another high profile coaching position anytime soon. Man, stupid decision by Leach and he is now paying the price. When you have some high profile and influential folks gunning for your head, you don't want to give them the ammo for their guns. Leach, unfortunately, did just that! Too bad for the TT faithful. This may well get very interesting to watch.
  6. Here's what bothers me...the guy buys a one-way ticket...with cash...has no luggage...is boarding a plane not in his home country and is heading one-way to another country that is not his home country....given all that HOW MANY RED FLAGS TO YOU NEED TO STOP THIS GUY FROM BOARDING??????? Stupid lapse of common sense...and because of the stupidity ever passenger is now subjected to more stupidity. Nothing about the n-air changes would have prevented any of this! You stop these idiots on the ground before they board. Every red flag was there.....I would say the system was a complete failure! Good grief!!!! Lucky that no one was killed or injured in this terrorist attack. Plain luck here pure and simple. Thank God for luck!
  7. Definitely a major problem, but a fine is probably not going to stop the problem. To fine someone with no means to pay the fine is really no fine at all. It's a tough call here...don't respond to one of these type of people and you are in major hot water if they really do have a legit emergency...keep coming to all their non-emergency 911 calls and you waste time and resources. Tough call..it's a no-win to the city and the fire dept. personnel. Education might help, but most of these folks may just be too ignorant to learn from an education program...they may be nut cases who simply have no clue...who knows...if they have funds and are just abusing the system, yes, fine them and collect if you can, but really, good luck with that!
  8. It's a bid deal to Craig James and the folks at Texas Tech! This is a stupid move by Leach and he darn sure should have known better. If he had a problem with the kid he could have simply benched him or sent him packing with far less repercussions. This is simply stupid in this day and time. Those at my age will all recall far worse "punishments" than this by football coaches, but that was a far far different time. Today, this sort of thing is a move that can (and may well) cost Leach his job at Tech. Stupid...simply stupid. Sorry to see this...I wonder how many times he has gotten away with this or something like it? This is probably not a first.
  9. I certainly have no problem at all with your personal thoughts on Mandy's leaving. My concern is with your disdain for those who give $250 (and probably those who give less) to the MGC. Have you ever stopped to think that a $250 donation may be a real stretch for some folks? I do not think anyone should "look down" on those who give any amount of money to the MGC or UNT or UNT athletics, etc. Some are lucky enough to give more than others, good for them, but ALL donations and all donors should be treated well, thanked and respected by all Mean Green fans everywhere. Have you ever stopped to think how much money would flow into the dept. if only 25% of the grads from 2000-2009 would give a "little $250 donation" to the Mean Green Club? Perhaps there are those who felt that Mandy did not respect their effort in making that $250 donation. OK, fine, she did what she felt she should do...right or wrong...but, NO ONE should be dismissed due to the size of their donation. Neither you, nor Mandy, nor me...or anyone, knows the personal circumstances surrounding why folks give the amounts they do to the MGC, etc. I welcome any and all donations...regardless of size to the program and to the university. One of those "little $250" donations might just grow to $2,500,000, who knows, if they were treated well and with respect when they made the "little $250" donation. It sad that some judge people by the size of their donation. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  10. Unfortunately, I agree. Really do need to hold turnovers to a bare minimum if UNT is to comre out of this next stretch of games in good shape. Cold set the stagefor a great season...or...... GO MEAN GREEN!!!
  11. DITTO THAT! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY (and safe) NEW YEAR TO THE MEAN GREEN NATION wherever they may be this holiday season. GO MEAN GREEN!
  12. Disgusting is saying it too kindly...one can only wonder what they were thinking? Oh, I get it...these folks never think and this is just another example. Good grief!
  13. This just may be a sign of things to come. Today, democratic freshman Congressman, Parker Griffith, announced that he is switching party affiliation and joining the Republican Party immediately. He is quoted as saying, "Our nation is at a crossroads, and I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy and drives it further and further into debt". WOW...pretty bold move for a freshman congressman from Alabama. Perhaps he senses the "handwriting on the wall". I am wondering if this move will give "cover" to others who are considering the same action? If I were in the current administration, I would take careful note of this and think about what this may well be saying about the mood of the nation's voting public. Wow...I see this as a great early Christmas present to the GOP. Wow.....is this the first of many? Now we can have the "usual suspects" here do the "quitter" routine, but it is an important move and something all should carefully note.
  14. I really think what this is saying is more along the lines that one should do the best job they can in recruiting, but that they should not be surprised if players who were not heavily recruited may well become the backbone of your success down the road. I am certain that everyone knows someone who the "star everything" in high school, was pretty well recruited (even by some of the so-called "big boys") and who did not "pan out" so well at the college level. Also, you will more than likely know a kid who was a pretty good, but no "all-star everything" in HS who went on to the college level as a walk-on who became a mainstay and starter for their college. I think what it says is to be careful with the ratings and recruit who you have seen and who you think can develop and help your program, and to not worry about those who think your team has had a poor or mediocre recruiting year based on someone else's evaluation of their talent until the kids actually see the playing field. Same thing happens in the pros, wouldn't you say? How often do #1's and other "high" draft picks find their way to back-up roles (Bobby Carpenter for Dallas so far to name a current example) and/or practice squads or out of the game in a year or two after being drafted? Maybe what it is saying is that as one moves up the ladder into higher and higher levels of sport, the stars at a lower level are not always "locks" to be future stars at the next higher level. I see it in soccer refereeing all the time with the youth game. Seems to be so in football at the college level as well.
  15. Interesting small article in today's Wall Street Journal regarding recruiting and success gaining a BCS berth. I quote: "When USC signed every prized football recruit west of the Mississippi over the past five years, most fans expected national titles every season. Instead, the Trojans are playing in something called the Emerald Bowl on Saturday". If bowl seasons teaches fans anything, it's that getting top recruits doesn't guarantee success. In this year's 34 bowls, half of the participating teams didn't have a single starter in their final regular season game that was considered a top-100 prospect in high school, according to recruiting web site Rivals.com." The article goes on to say that out of 1,496 bowl-game starters just 8.4% of them were top-100 recruits. And, by the way...neither TCU nor Boise State starts a top-100 recruit. Thought that was interesting.
  16. Quoner, I think you have outdone yourself with that reply. You must be taking advantage of the Christmas cheer "juice" early today!
  17. There is a growing "Tenth Amendment" movement currently in this nation. The idea that some of what Congress is doing is "unconstitutional" is gaining more and more momentum as the days pass. Just keep looking for this "movement" to crop up in newspaper and radio reports. At the moment you will only hear about it on certain radio and TV channels as some of the press would like to see this "go away". I am thinking that it will only grow and will, indeed, grow to the extent that more of the press and media will not be able to ignore it much longer. I think this is a legitimate challenge to the ever growing "power" of the federal government to want to try to regulate each and every part of our daily lives. The 10th amendment was written for a very valid reason...seems we are seeing just why the 10th was enacted in the first place...part of the Bill of Rights, you know.... Stay tuned...should be interesting to those who really follow this sort of thing.
  18. That is bad news. Really hurts the rotation I would think. Dom needs to play and develop as, I believe, UNT needs another point guard to develop. Hopefully, he'll get a red shirt year out of this...we'll see, but it is bad news for the Mean Green. Good luck Dom...see ya on the court next season...get well...UNT needs you!
  19. Finally, I have been waiting and waiting for someone to pick up on this. It's not my "type" of thing to post, but I was thinking Quoner or Tasty could really do some "good" with it...finally....all is right with the world! Thanks, Quoner.
  20. Nope...the ones I posted are on Ft. Worth Drive south of I-35...you are correct, however, as I recall one north of town by the old cart/drag way or whatever it is near Fosters Western Wear. Another spot to try... hopefully, still in business.
  21. Agree, but it's the one last night that bothers me. We win Tuesday to get back on track. GO PIT CREW!
  22. Are you in the Denton area? You could try giving Denton County Auto Salvage (Also Denton U Pull and Save at the same location with a different phone 940-891-6037) a call at 940-387-5202. Or Import Auto Salvage at 940-381-6037. haven't used any of these folks in some time, but "in the day" I had luck finding parts at these places. Good luck....
  23. I'll rate 'em after I see 'em play at the college level. I trust the colleges, including UNT, to know a lot more than I do about the type of players they are looking for and in deciding who to recruit. I think the rating systems are just what they are said to be...a rating system. Nothing more, nothing less...just like the BCS rating system...It's a rating system, but you play the game on the field not in the computer...the recruiting systems rate the players, good enough...I'll hold judgment until they play the game at the college and trust in the coaching and recruiting staffs to do thee best job they can in signing the players needed to help UNT win. That all being said, I do like to see highly rated players signed by UNT...I could care less about which system rated them. I see no problem with reporting different rating systems for different players as long as the system is noted. I can figure the rest out from that...It's always nice to get good PR from a recruiting class being rated highly. Look just because I don't put my faith in the recruiting systems, it's nice to have them around give the fans something to discuss, right?
  24. Personally, for me, I have to hand it to the Pit Crew for working hard to get some spirit going for UNT games. They were, by far, the loudest part of yesterday's crowd. Anyone who thinks the Pit Crew is doing a poor job simply isn't attending the games in person...that's my opinion...BostonSports and Flyer and the rest of the Pit Crew are all doing all they can to "pump up" the crowd. Many thanks to them. However, I do wish they had done a better job from the line yesterday...if Bostonsports and Flyer had hit a few more three's and those free throws, UNT surely would have won! GO GET 'EM PIT CREW...hope to see you all in action again Tuesday evening...I'll be there cheering for the Mean Green with you.
  25. Happy to help all I can. Have you contacted the Alumni Assoc. about this request by any chance? I know the Alumni Assoc. works with the Alumni Pro Shop folks and they have been very responsive to my requests in the past. As we all know the "actual school" color seems to change fairly often which hurts folks trying to inventory and carry UNT gear. It would be most helpful to all...including our fans...if the current green shade would remain as the school color.
