Boy, did you ever miss the point! -
Sorry, BleedGreen, but IMO Josh is not a #1 and that is one of the reasons the Mean Green struggles to get anything consistent going. Great kid, excellent player, but he seems "lost" to me as a #1. While short...even for a #1...I do think he is much better suited to be a #2. Seems to have the mentality as a player of a #2. Anyway, I take nothing away from his abilities as a BB player and I am really glad he plays for the Mean Green, but I just think he is playing out of position at the D1 level as a #1.
-
Quoner...I'm serious...where did you see the consistency. I was at the game, as always, and I sure saw a bunch of turnovers and some really sloppy play. In addition, once again the team came out like it had rocks in it;'s pockets. If you mean a consistent slow start, OK. But, what consistency? I am not saying you didn't see it, I just want to know where you saw it? From George, maybe? Another double-double night I believe. Another good game from a good kid! Haven't see the stats as yet, but how many turnovers did UNT have last night? And, after all that, to win this game is big and a well deserved "hang in there until it clicks" win for the Mean Green. Needed it...earned it!

Good for Lincoln Riley...good for Ruffin McNeill. Both seem like solid coaches and great people. Congratulations to both. -

Don't we have "term limit"? I think a few currently in office sure think we do after the election in Mass. But, I do see you point. -
Air Amerika
KRAM1 replied to eulesseagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Oh, no! What will SilverEagle and the other five listeners do now?????? You are correct, sir. What little actual decent broadcasting it ever did was far overshadowed by the sheer lunacy of the majority of it's broadcasting. Too bad, really. I see a place for a liberal alternative in radio, but not if it is simply going to be as loony as "Air Hate" radio was ninety-five percent of the time. And, yes, I did at times listen to "Air Hate" to see what the loonies were saying...made for some good comedy when I need a laugh. If MSNBC is not careful, it will suffer the same fate. None of it's anchors carry anywhere near the ratings of it's chief rival Fox News. And, I am talking a 300% difference in viewership at the best comparison...at times the difference in viewership is 800% plus! -
Blind, no...blissful yes. In my opinion, it is so much better than going through life with a negative attitude and a "the sky is falling" outlook. Sports are "side-events" for fans and it is supposed to be enjoyable. I choose to let the folks who get paid to do this stuff worry about all this "behind the scenes" stuff as it has no effect on my life what-so-ever UNLESS I LET IT! I'm a fan of UNT Athletics because I am a proud grad of UNT. I am not "embarrassed" by the team's won-loss record (even though I do so wish it were better). I can still have fun around the "water cooler" at work with friends and co-workers whose teams are (for now) doing much better. But, what they think of me and what I think of them and their universities does not rest with the team's won loss record. If you have your entire "persona" wrapped up in UNT Athletics, well, good for you, but that's not my life as I want it to be. I have a much broader view than that. Sure allows me to smile more than some of my more serious sport's minded friends. The difference is that I do not see my life in terms of how UNT athletics goes. So, you can call it blind faith, ignorance or whatever you want...I prefer to see it as a guy who loves his university, does what he can to support it with his money AND his time, and very much enjoys college sports...and, who can find enjoyment in the game experience...win or lose. No question that it is even more fun when UNT wins, but fun it is. It 's even fun to jaw about it all at the barber shop where one guy still cannot get over the fact that DD is gone. Who knows, we might even wake up tomorrow to the news that UNT hired a new OC and then all the "sky is falling and doom and gloom over how long it is taking" will have been for naught...in the meantime, I'll enjoy the basketball game tonight in person at the Super Pit and sleep quite well, win or lose because I had some fun with friends and Mean green Nation members this evening...it's not hard, it's just a personal decision to enjoy myself. You might just want to try it sometime.

Darn those monolithic hard-hearted Republicans who want to take us back to the 19th century! Silver, you just crack me up. This...this is what you want to hang your hat on and jab the opponents of gay-marriage with? By the way, not all opponents of gay-marriage are conservatives and Republicans. I know that might just surprise you, but it's true. There are plenty of folks on the left and in the Democratic party that support a traditional view of marriage. But, you might have missed that little fact. Last time I looked, Dick Chaney had a gay-daughter. Do you really think just because one is a Republican that they cannot have any interest in supporting gay issues? And if one is a democrat or liberal that they automatically support gay-marriage? In case you didn't know it, there are gay republicans, and even straight democrats . Shock of all shock to your system I am sure, but it's true. Imagine that! Thanks for bringing this to our attention...big news story, might just have missed it. Do you think this will swing the deal in California? All those folks who support the traditional view of marriage in California will now just give it up because McCain's wife has decided to come out in support of a gay issue referendum in California????? It has been absolutely no secret that McCain's daughter was active in this area and has been for some time. Breaking news, here, Silver. Quite the scoop. -
An Inconvenient Truth
KRAM1 replied to DeepGreen's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Why even attempt to show the hypocrisy of some of the "man is going to destroy the Earth with his carbon footprint" loonies? As you know, all this "global warming" stuff is great "for the other person"...far be it from the ones actually campaigning for this failed theory to really DO anything about it in their own personal lives...what were you thinking? -
If you guys think like some of our so very supportive GMG.com posters and if you don't have a new OC in less than a week your head coach and AD must be just sitting around with their thumbs in their noses waiting for all the "good ones" to get away. If they don't interview everyone "on the street" looking for an OC position and then announce it to your local beat writer then they certainly are just not doing their job. Good luck with that search...let's race...who announces a new OC hire first? The Mean green or the Bobcats? It's a race...you know, let's not take the time to find the best fit, let's just race to the finish and hire someone. Before all the good ones get away. Money and opportunities are no issue here, of course!

Nice job ladies. I sure didn't see this one coming. Is this perhaps the start of a turnaround for the ladies? Hope so. Nice win! Go Mean Green!

I'll be there...as usual...but it is the student turnout that should be so very much larger. It amazes me how great a job the Pit Crew does while being so small in number. I am really amazed at a school the size of UNT with the on-campus and in-town student population that it has, with a winning program and a good arena that so very few students turn out for the games. No reason that we should not see 3-4,0000 students at each game...especially the mid-week games when all the "they leave town on weekends" excuses are gone. Where are the Talons? Have they melted into the Pit Crew numbers? There seems to be about the same number of alums and fans at most games...and many of those drive some distance to get to the games multiple times each week during the season while the students can't be bothered to walk across campus for a game that takes a couple of hours and is over before prime clubbing time. GO FIGURE. The fact that so few attend basketball games (even when the team is winning) is why I tire so much of the argument many have regarding poor student attendance at football games...you know, the one that goes along the lines of...well, if the team was winning the students would turn out. Really? Student basketball attendance just doesn't seem to make a case for that tired and lame argument. Hats off to the Pit Crew...you folks rock the hose! Too bad more of your fellow students care so little. The student-athletes at UNT work their tails off both in the classroom and in their sports. They represent UNT well and I think it is way past time that the student body, faculty and staff at UNT get behind our student athletes and show up at the games. Same goes for the many many alumni that reside in Denton and within a 30-min drive of Denton. OK, rant over...sorry...see you at the game tonight for the Mean Green victory...if, as drex says, the team doesn't come out lazy and doesn't have that mid-game brain freeze they always seem to have. GO MEAN GREEN. Victory to the Green tonight against USA!

Denton's crack Sports Commission at work again?

Baseless optimism? I definitely have a base to my optimism, but thanks for noticing. Yep, let's not say potentially negative things about a possible signee, let's reserve all the Emmitt negatives for current players and current coaches... especially our starting QB and head coach. That makes them all warm and fuzzy about playing and coaching for UNT I am sure! Point is...why say anything negative about prospective or current players? Such negative comments about student-athletes should be verboten on this board. As members of the Mean Green Nation we should really know better than that. Think about it if you can get past your baseless negativity that is.

8-5 will not get it done in Soonerland. Being 8-5 in Norman is like going 2-10 in Denton. Just saying...but, I also think you missed the sarcasm in the original post.

Tap the breaks there Green Dozer...Coach Dodge has been to several basketball games...in fact he was in attendance just this last Saturday. I have personally chatted with him several times at basketball games. Not saying he is a "regular" attendee, but I am never surprised to see him at a home game. -
If You Can Vote In Denton
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
NT03...you will not be wasting your vote. Not only is Joe a proud member of the Mean Green Nation, he is a successful Denton small businessman, very active in the Kiwanis and other civic and charitable organizations, is a season ticket holder for UNT football and basketball (for many years I might add), has made a financial commitment to the new stadium and has shown to be a very good JP...a full-time effort too. Joe represents the citizens well and handles himself in a very professional manner. I am glad to have had even a small part in introducing you to Joe and I know he appreciates the fact that you will consider voting for him. He really has earned your vote. Mine too! Check out the web site address he listed in this thread and you might just recognize him...you may know him after all...and just didn't know you knew him! GO MEAN GREEN! -
Obama Bought And Paid For!
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Point is...you didn't buy the bigger screen you could not or did not want to afford. Seems if folks buying these mega houses they couldn't afford would have made the same choice, the whole affair might have been mitigated to a great extent. Should we now bring Best Buy before Congress and accuse them of being the devil in street clothes, tax their bonuses and levy a big new tax on consumer electronics sellers??????? -
Want to bet she never takes a cell phone to school again? I wonder if the schools in Saudi Arabia need "parental permission" before administering corporal punishment? You think? How this sort of stuff can go on in today's world is beyond my scope of imagination. Dark Ages stuff indeed. Effective it might be, but overkill at it's most egregious.

Come on, your rear is not that big! Look, no one is happy with the state of UNT football except our opponents perhaps. The difference might just be that some of us are amused at all the "experts" we have telling TD and RV what they should be doing all the time while knowing much to nothing about what is actually going on. Just because there is a report from a reporter (that some folks don't like at all until he prints something they think is negative and they can jump on that for a posting or two) does not make if 100% fact. Again, the relative "position regarding employment" of the current HC may well have something to do with the OC hiring process...you think? Slow down and pump the brakes a bit. UNT will hire an OC coordinator. Some on here will support the hire and indicate their willingness to see what develops, while other will immediately seize on the opportunity to once more blast the department, the AD and the HC for a bad hire before the guy calls one play in an actual game for UNT. This will happen whether the guy is a current "big time" college assistant or a local jr. high coach that TD decided to give a shot (OK, let's all hope that's not the case). So be it. At least it is something certain in life that one can count on rain or shine. Hire too soon, the cry goes up for acting too fast and leaving good candidates in play, hire too slow and the cry goes up that all the good candidates already got hired and UNT is left with the dregs. Can't win! But, one thing is certain..there will be differences of opinion on the final outcome. GO MEAN GREEN!

Scott Brown Wins Mass Senate Seat
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Don't know, but what we do know for 100% certainty is that the arrogance of the current administration is allowing for absolutely no bipartisan cooperation/debate. The Mass election was not about "turncoats" willing to go against their party but rather the fact that there seemed to be no one willing to do just that in the democratic party. When the American voter is promised open hearings and debates and bipartisan cooperation over and over on the campaign trail and then see 100% the opposite...well he/she gets just a tad ticked off. You can fool them with "change" during a campaign, perhaps, but they will come back and give you "change" you might not have been looking for if you thumb your nose at them. Exactly what the Obama Administration, Pelosi and Reid have been doing. There just might be some interesting conversations taking place today in the White House and on Capital Hill. Again, however, Republicans had better not think this had anything at all to do with them. They can take the lead or waste this chance. It is in their court now. This election was lost by the dems because they have absolutely LOST the independent voter in one short year since taking office. The independent voter was definitely ready for change, but what was promised is definitely not what was delivered. Want proof? Just scan the election return numbers from last evening. -
LAST REMINDER...Tonight at 6PM...Fox and Hounds - Lewisville. Open to all UNT alums, fans and friends...just come and enjoy the company of some members of the Mean Green nation. UNT Alumni personnel will be on hand to talk to you if you have any questions about the UNT Alumni Association, what it is planning for the year, how to become involved, benefits of membership, etc., etc. But, that's up to you...there will be no "official" presentation by anyone at this mixer...just a good time with the Mean Green nation sponsored by the Denton Chapter of the UNT Alumni Association. Hope to see you there!!! GO MEAN GREEN...GO ALUMNI!
