Let's talk for a second about this "separation of church and state thing" as it gets so very confused and misstated quite often. The fact is, this provision refers ONLY to the establishment of a state...read national...religion (such as was in place in England at the time). In fact, several of our original states did in fact have official state religions...Mass being one who was probably the strictest about it all. The bible verses on the rifle sights has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Constitution or the "separation" clause. Although, I will admit, that this provision gets so turned on its head so often that I would imagine that the vast majority of folks (including Congressmen, Senators and Presidents) have no real idea what it was originally intended to do. Even the courts have misinterpreted the provision. Not saying I am a great Constitutional scholar or anything like that, but those that are have stated this fact many times....the confusion over the intent of the "separation" provision that is. Whether it is good or bad, whether it incites our enemies or not, etc. to have the verses on the sites, is, in fact, NOT an issue of "separation of church and state". The framers of our great Constitution must turn over in their graves on a regular basis due to all the misinterpretation of the great document they crafted. Either that or they are laughing their rear ends off on a regular basis.

You know what? It wouldn't be all that hard to pick up the phone and call the Pourhouse. I can't be there Thursday (already committed elsewhere) but for those who are interested...how interested can you be if you don't just pick up the phone and call the Pourhouse? Just saying...why wait for someone else to do it for you? Give the Pourhose a call. They are great folks and I am sure they will have the game on if they know a crowd is coming to watch the game with them...BTW...great evening specials on beer too!!!!!!! Good place for the Mean Green nation to meet, eat and drink! I apprecaite their support for the Mean Green.

At first I was having a good bit of trouble with the site. Nothing seemed to work for me and I could barely see the wording on the screen. But, I did a little Tweaking in my profile, settings, etc., and things did clear up for me a good bit. I am getting used to the new "look and feel" and I like it. This stuff takes a great deal of work on the part of Harry and the admins, and I, for one, really appreciate all they do for all "us posters". I have PM'd Harry with a couple of questions and he has been both kind and prompt in his replies. If I can "learn" this new set-up, trust me, anyone can. I would, however, like to see some separation between the thread topics in each area...sort of like before. But, if that's all that I need to "get used to" with the new site, and given all the positive upgrades...well, man, great deal. I can only imagine the personal time and energy given to maintaining and upgrading and administrating this site. My many many thanks to harry and all the admins for the great job they do. GO MEAN GREEN! GO GMG.COM!!!!!

Believe it or not...some of the Mean Green Nation ARE looking forward to just that in 2010. GO MEAN GREEN!

Yes, it changes the dynamics a good bit I would imagine. I would look for Canales to call plays and have a big input into the game planning process, sets, player rotations, etc. I would have to believe that TD would not want to hire the guy unless he was looking to be more of a CEO head coach and let both DeLoach and Canales run their shops under his overall direction as the HC. Can't wait to get the "official" announcement. Good things are happening for the Mean green Nation. Believe it! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

Smu Student Found Dead
KRAM1 replied to NTerock's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
My heart goes out to the Green family. What a tragic loss. The papers are reporting that Hunter and his father had been estranged for quite some time, but had recently tried to reconcile after the elder Green's accident last year. The article points to some current and lingering issues as one daughter stated that "lacking an earthly father, Hunter was welcomed into Heaven by his father God". Whatever the issues, and whatever the cause of this tragic death at such a young age, it is something no parent should ever have to go through. You simply should not have to outlive your kids. My thoughts and prayers go out to Hunter and his family and friends. May God grant them all peace. -
Warhawks Bolster Defense With New Commitment
KRAM1 replied to mgsteve's topic in Mean Green Football
Is that true? Our DC is not active in recruiting? With the way the defense "underperformed" a bit last season, I would hope that the OC is VERY much involved with the recruiting process. Does DeLoach meet with recruits during their on-campus visits? Does he regularly make phone calls (when allowed of course), etc. If he doesn't make a ton of in-home visits, I can perhaps understand that...maybe...but if he is not involved to any extent at all, I would definitely see that as a challenge. I am a bit surprised to hear this...can we get some more discussion on this from some of our "insiders"? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm -
Seems to be that most everyone believes it is a done deal. Sure looks like a good hire to me. I would be excited to see Canales with the Mean Green working with Riley and the offense. DeLoach on defense (with a year under his belt back at UNT) and Canales on offense with TD acting as the CEO would appear to be a good situation for the Mean Green Nation. I am hopeful...VERY hopeful. Go Mean Green!

Obama Bought And Paid For!
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Interesting that in his campaign against McCain, Obama was very much against spending freezes...now, another "flip-flop" and he seems set to announce some "drop in the bucket" freeze on areas that will not impact his pet union bosses, his far left base, etc. All the while trying to dupe the American middle class into believing he is really trying to do something. The guy will try his best to "have it both ways" in the speech. Watch him announce spending initiatives for pet projects (these will be cloaked in the language of job creation) all the while saying he will freeze spending. Double-speak at its best will be on display this evening. What's the over/under on how many times he will place blame on others for everything wrong and take credit for all the "mystical" job creation that has gone on? How many times will he read (teleprompter securely in place) "make no mistake", "relief for working families", "bonuses", "greed", "more work yet to do", "inherited"...and "I"? I give the "I" word a count of at least 50 and up to 5 in one sentence alone. This should be great entertainment tonight. Where will Wilson be when one really needs him this time? OK, just kidding on that part. -
Getting down to the wire with the recruiting battles these days, so out come the "big guns". I am certain TD is also touching bases with key recruits as we speak. Maybe he's speaking with a middle school class in Austin today. Wouldn't that be a hoot...Brown in Denton and Dodge in Austin on the same day! Me thinks that would be "way cool". OK, maybe it's not happening today, but I would imagine UNT coaches have been in the Austin area recruiting. I wonder who the "recruit" was that Mack Brown was that interested in getting or saving as the case might be? Do your sources tell you that as well?

Does seem a bit "out there", but these are the absolute best gun sights in the world. Our soldiers are much better prepared to face the enemy with these sights than without. That being said, I do think it to be a very good idea to remove the verses from the gun sights. I would not want to give our enemy any "bulletin board" material so to speak to use against the coalition forces where ever they may be. Interesting, too, that no one noticed for many many years. Must have been hidden very well. I did hear a bit of a counter argument to the issue the other day on the radio while driving to work. Went something like...well, if you are going to shoot at any of God's creatures...man or animal...isn't it a good thing to have the scripture top of mind? The thought being that you never kill/shoot man nor animal without serious thought and darn good reason...such as to protect life, liberty, etc., and to shoot/kill for food. Shooting to kill should never be taken lightly and this gentlemen was saying that perhaps that was the point of the verses. To remind folks of the serious nature of what they were doing. Not judging one way or the other, but there is a side to the story that it was not done to be offensive to anyone. The guy walked and talked his faith, was proud of it and produced a great product. He certainly "risked" a good bit placing the scripture verses on the sights. In this day, that is a pretty risky business decision I would think. Especially if one of your largest clients was the US government...knowing, of course, how the PC thing could well come back to bite in a big way. Bottom line. I am personally glad to see the verses removed, but am also glad to see the best sights in the world being sold to the US government for our military...and for that of our allies. I wonder if the Israeli army used the sights as well. That would be "interesting as well, would it not?

I'm thinking that it's a done deal. And, a darn good one at that for UNT it would appear. I believe we will have an official announcement before the end of the week. These things always take a bit of time at the last second to work out details...not the "OK, let's do it" conversation, but the smaller not that significant but still important stuff. Anyway, that I'll leave to the folks who do that sort of thing for a living...who knows...maybe they are holding off on the "official word" until signing day when they can make a big splash with the class signed and the new OC. Just saying...it might make for an even bigger event. But, I still think we will get the official word in the very near future...can't wait...this holding my breath thing is getting tough!

So, how does Thursday's game rate in the "critical game" category? What do you think? With a full squad available, how do the "real" bb folks here think this can go? I think if George and Eric play together like they did last week, that UNT could well walk out of the gym with a win. Thoughts?

How Do You Rate The 2010 Mean Green Football Verbals
KRAM1 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe the class is shaping up rather nicely. But, I, too, would like to see more emphasis placed on the D-Line and O-Line. But, at this point, I see this as a very good class for TD and UNT. We'll see after signing day how it actually shapes up. Go Mean Green! -
Amazing. A quality coach with college and professional experience willing to come to UNT for whatecver UNT can pay, with the coaching situation "up in the air", etc., etc. And, gee, even before spring ball. These guys in the athletic dept. were definitely just sitting on their hands and letting all the "good ones" get away and sign with other schools. Just a touch of sarcasm there for our more "skepical" posters. In all seriopusness, this looks to be a great hire for the Mean Green. I'm thinking good things....GO MEAN GREEN!

Just saw where the UNT swim team defeated Rice yesterday! Great win for UNT...first time ever!!!! Way to go swimmers!!! BTW...they introduced the "dive team" at the last home basketball game...if that was just the "dive team"...well, even if it is the entire swim team...UNT should have absolutely NO Title IX issues for a long time! You could field a football team with the number of team members at the game...and that was probably NOT every member of the team...the line stretched from one end of the floor to the other! You go ladies!!!!
-
Can't make it today, but...is there a web-site or an address where I can send them a check to help their efforts? These ladies do a great job for UNT.
-
Probably...that might just be a great idea for our next t-shirt. I'm certain you will be first in line to help raise money for scholarships from the sale of the shirts, right?

You guys crack me up sometimes.

North Texas Has Lost A Very Good Man (walt Parker Passed Away)
KRAM1 replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
I actually think SilverEagle has a very good point. If anyone should have a part of the stadium named for them it would be Walt parker. I, too, have the privilege of saying that I knew Walt parker. A gentleman, an athlete, a Denton-guy and a very proud member of the Mean Green Nation. If you did not ever have the pleasure of meeting Walt Parker, it is too bad. Great guy who did lots of good work for UNT. May God grant him peace! My thoughts and prayers go out to the Parker family. -
I may just have to give up on you! You are like a small child who must always be the wise-ass! OK...so tell me about the "consistancy" you saw...please...it was a legit question I thought, not a know or a jab.
-
You got it...and why not? UNT is my Alma mater, and I am proud of it. Plus, I happen to think people should support their Alma maters regardless of the won-loss record of its football team. I know that's hard for some to "get", but so be it! So....BUY SEASON TICKETS! ACTUALLY GO TO THE GAMES! JOIN THE MEAN GREEN CLUB! JOIN THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION! And, get involved and get re-connected (if you have been away) with YOUR University. You might just be surprised how it changes your opinion of what the priorities in life might just be.

Mccain-feingold Gone
KRAM1 replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Way too far off the point...my point was...there are some current politicians who, after taking a look at the Mass results this week, are thinking their "term" is at its limit! Let me make it even clearer for you...there are some sitting congressmen and senators who are afraid that after seeing the results in Mass that they may not get elected. There you go.
