  1. Congrats to Brian Waters...well done Mean Green! You know, I don't recall "Mean Joe" or Abner, etc., etc. spending much time at UNT during their playing days. And, for that matter, why should they be expected to do any more for UNT than any other grad? Yes, I know they have "name recognition" and that can and is a big big help...much bigger than KRAM making an appearance at a game, making a donation or buying season tickets. I get that. But I also get the fact that if more alums of UNT actually cared enough to support the school, well, there is no end to the great things that could be happening at UNT...both in athletics and in academics. I sometimes think that there are way too many UNT alums who think it is the "other guys" responsibility to do what they can...however big or small...to help their school grow, be recognized and be successful on and off the field. Too many who seem to have some little beef with someone, some dept or some program that gives them an excuse for ignoring their school completely as if by doing so the school will recognize their "absence" and atone for whatever grievance they seem to have. I guess what I am saying is that if everyone would do what they can...big or small...to help UNT it would make such a big difference. I realize that I am "preaching to the choir" here a good bit, and I apologize for that, but I do think it way past time that UNT alums, students and friends stop "being embarrassed" by their association with UNT, stop holding some long standing grudge, stop worrying about what "other people think" if they actually show their support for UNT and start looking for the positives, start getting involved or re-connected to UNT and consider buying season tickets, making any size of donation, joining the Alumni Association (did you realize that you do not have to have a degree from UNT to be a member of the UNT Alumni Association?), joining the Mean Green Club, etc. that UNT could BE that University that we all know it can be. I also know that there will be folks who say "show me first" and "too bad the athletic dept. or administration won't do this or that", and "I will not buy, give, support, etc. until"....I know those folks are out there and in way too many numbers, but just stop and imagine the possibilities if the Mean green nation really...I mean really...decided to get behind this university and its programs. man, what a ride we would all be on.....be still my heart. Congrats again to Brian Waters...great guy...well deserved honor and I'll bet donuts to dollars that Brian Waters will be a big support to UNT in the years to come. He gives every indication of being proud of his link to UNT and I'll bet he is not "embarrassed around the water cooler" by the fact that he is a member of the Mean Green nation. I know I'm not and I know lots of others who aren't either. Thanks to all who support the Mean green with their time, talent and dollars...and with whatever they can do to be a proud member of the Mean Green nation. You folks are the best!
  2. OK, I don't get this.......
  3. Me...well, undergrad years were 1966-1970. I have the Yucca's from those years and it has been great fun to look back through them from time to time.
  4. Do you really care? Lots can and will happen to this kid and USC between now and the time he is a senior in HS. If this commit holds it will be a miracle...injuries, grades, coaching changes, girl friend (teenage "love" can be a deciding factor...stupid, but true), college visits, other offers, scandal at USC, etc., etc. Time will tell. If the kid is that good at 13, well great for him. Stand by for the real decision come several years from now. Do you think UNT is recruiting him?????
  5. Hey, I'll give you a +1 for that comment! Everyone KNOWS that soccer (the real football) is THE BEST!
  6. I loved it when JJ got a bit frustrated with the sloppy play and subbed the entire team out at once! Pretty funny...but, man that second five really gave the team (and crowd) a lift just at the right time. I really liked seeing JJ do that. Good time to be in attendance last evening. GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Take heart you hockey fans...article in today's Dallas Morning News says that Hicks is looking to sell the Stars.
  8. True...so can most educated and hard working citizens of any ethnic/racial background of the greatest nation on earth...the U S of A!
  9. Nice job! Pit crew and Pep band did a great job. I am still amazed at how small the student turnout is (and that is after a good showing last evening...late arriving, but a good showing none the less). Pep band was amazing last night, and the Pit Crew just gets better and better. I do wish my seats were closer to the Pit Crew so I could actually see the effect they have on the visiting team...what I can see is really funny. Great job guys. UNT just needs more of you. Too bad most of the student athletes and coaches attending for the half-time ceremony came just before half-time and left just after. I don't get that, but those who did stay were TREATED to a great Pep band, the always great Pit Crew and a very nice win by the Mean Green. Could the Mean Green be peaking at just the right time heading into tournament action? Me thinks that just might be the case! WELL DONE ONE AND ALL!!!!!!
  10. Perhaps UNT recruited the players they wanted to recruit. Perhaps they contacted each and every one of the listed players and were told to "not waste their time" as they planned to go elsewhere. Perhaps the staff knows where best to spend its time. And, on and on and on. Who really knows. I, too, very much wish UNT would stock up on local talent as that also brings "rears to the seats" for home games. But, I have to believe that the staff does its homework and knows the local talent as well as any other program. I saw where Guyer's current QB committed to Oklahoma State. Does anyone here think he was not contacted by UNT on more than one occasion? It might be a good "study" to see how many top players in the Stillwater, OK area and the Norman, Ok area, and Columbus, Ohio and Seattle, WA and Los Angeles, CA, etc. sign with "local" programs. Research shouldn't be that hard. I don't have the time or desire, but perhaps someone does. Might be a good "term paper" for someone.
  11. I was very pleased to see the floor pretty well covered by UNT's top student athletes. I know it is very hard to keep this sort of quality academic work going while playing a sport in college. All of our student athletes are to be congratulated....well done! Nice to see this at halftime. I do, however, wish the athletes and coaches would have stayed around to support the basketball team in their game against FAU. Yes, some did...but the vast majority left right after halftime. Too bad. They missed a very nice win by the Mean Green. Congrats to all UNT's fine student-athletes.
  12. Fact is...the guy had to leave Canada. Too bad. Too bad folks leave the US as well. Some are reported to have wished they had not left for other countries. But, Silver has a valid point in thinking the guy was just going to who he thought was THE BEST. Nice that he has that choice. There may be a bit more to the story as well. Good luck to him!
  13. Agree...I did not mention Coach Mitchell and well should have...he goes in my "revised" top 5...I guess I'll have to take J. Gales out even though I really liked him on a personal level!
  14. Nice...love to see the positive PR about UNT. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. Coach Canales! I think he will have a much bigger impact immediately than any of our new playing signees! GO MEAN GREEN!
  16. Don't know...don't really care. This class looks just fine to me, and they seem to fill some holes for the Mean Green.
  17. With numbers the way they are and with Medina rising and Hutchinson in free-fall, a run-off would not matter. It looks to me like Perry has it pretty well sewed up. If that is the case (and for me, I'll probably vote in the primary for Medina), and if one was a Republican mindset, would it not be better for Hutchison and/or Medina to bow out now and saw the campaign war chest funds for the general election? Just thinking. I do think it will be fun to see how far Medina can rise in the polls and how many votes she actually gets in the primary. At this rate, it might be Perry and Medina in the run off if a run-off happens...and it sure looks like it may well.
  18. I see nothing wrong at all with the class that has signed with UNT. I really do not care where they come from. By the way, several local kids have signed LOI's with the Mean Green, just not from Denton. The class TD and staff have put together is one we can all be proud of and we should congratulate TD and staff on the job they did. GO MEAN GREEN...exciting day for the Mean Green!
  19. 1. Hayden Fry 2. Richard Lowe 3. John Hedlund 4. Jimmy Gales - Just because I loved the guy! 5. Bill Blakeley
  20. Happy Birthday, young fella! It's your day...make it a great one. Thanks for all your support of the Mean Green and UNT!
  21. A new poll shows the following support levels in the Texas Republican primary race for the Governor's seat: Perry - 44% Hutchison - 29% Medina - 16% The info went on to say they expected Hutchison's numbers to continue to fall as Medina's may increase, and that those supporting Perry were very solidly behind him. So, it the primary race over? Seems so to me, and it is simply now a question of will Perry win in March or in an April run-off due to Medina's surprising rise in the polls. I had said earlier that I thought Hutchison would drop out of the race, looks like she should have, but is giving all indication that she will stick it out. Should she? Does she have a chance even with Bush 1 and Nolan Ryan in her court? What do you think?
  22. So Tasty's a Naval Lieutenant now????? Congratulations, Tasty!
  23. I agree with all of the comments...I do think Jason Ball (punter) as FFR said made an excellent contribution...eventually earning a scholarship. Great kid too.
  24. Agree 100%!
  25. Why am I not surprised that you would jump into this and post? Glad to see Emmitt has your able assistance. I am sure he feels like he needs your help so very much.
