  1. Here we go again...Congressman Eric Massa of NewYork (a democrat in a republican leaning district) said yesterday that he would not seek another term...cited health reasons. However, House ethics investigators are looking into alleged sexual harassment charges...male aide in question here. What's with these guys???? We also have Charlie Rangel finally...FINALLY...stepping down from his leadership position due to continuing ethics investigations. This is getting to be too much and it saddens me to no end to see this seemingly day after day parade of our senators and representatives with ethics charges and sexual "misadventures", etc., etc., etc. We really should see a higher level of ethics from these guys. Do they have absolutely no self-respect and do they really think they are above the law? It is truly a sad day. I care less that the latest two are democrats...they could have easily been Republicans. It is the fact that this stuff is going on at all...much less at the level it is. Sad so very sad and it really does bother me. This is not what we should expect from the leaders of this great nation of ours.
  2. Really nice...like it...any ideas as to what the Athletic Dept. is planning on doing with it??? Will it be utilized for just the last game against K St or will it be a theme for the entire season? Anyone know...what are they thinking of using this on or marketing/branding, etc.? Anyone????
  3. Absolutely astounding that George did make the first team...I do, however, agree that it is good to see for guys get some well deserved recognition.
  4. I'm thinking that this bodes well for a positive season for the Mean Green...can't wait to see the way it turns out. Sure will be great to be cheering the Mean Green on to victory...and victory...and victory in 2010! GO MEAN GREEN. I do think this schedule is a favorable one for the Mean Green. Nice to see. Love that UNT has another 6 home games!!!!!
  5. Good luck, Nate. Sure sorry to see this. But, it should free up a scholarship for a kid who can contribute to the success of the Mean Green in 2010. Thanks for being part of the Mean Green, sorry it did not work out for either you or the Mean Green...Stay in school and get that degree.
  6. Welcome, Coach Peterson, to the Mean Green Nation. We are happy to have you...and look forward to a much improved receiving corps in 2010!
  7. Man, I need to get around campus more and see all the "new stuff". Thanks, Harry. I would have never guessed.
  8. I don't know about Quoner, but I'd bet Quoner's wife might like it more!
  9. Just win, baby, and all this doesn't matter. Just win......
  10. Nice job CBL!
  11. Question...what room was the band playing in when they gave Dr. B the sendoff? I didn't recognize it...chandelier hanging down and all. Also...for soccer fans everywhere..."You'll Never Walk Alone" = Liverpool. Big tragic story behind it as well. I love it when UNT plays that song and it always makes me proud to be a UNT grad! It is a tradition that UNT needs to build upon. So rich in meaning....
  12. Funny stuff. Thanks for posting it...I really needed a good laugh this morning.
  13. Excellent crazy night at the Super Pit. I am sure it was nerves due to wanting to "get the 20th win, senior night, tournament seedings, etc., but the game really started slow and there seemed to be an inordinate number of turnovers and missed rebounds and shots in the first half. You just sat there wondering when and knowing that the team would definitely get it going. Once the 1st half was over and the second half got rolling one just got a feeling that the Mean Green had this one, knew it and was "playing a bit loose", but with the knowledge they would win. The confidence this team has is great to see. Some clutch plays (Collin, John, Tristen, George, Eric, etc., etc.) and the Mean Green went on a roll. Hey, did George have a tough night at the line or what? Love that kid...he really hung in there and worked even though his shot and rebounds were not coming as they normally do. This game, while it gave me a heart attack, was really great to see...this team just finds the heart to win...EXCELLENT job by the students this evening...nicely done! Congrats to JJ, all the coaches and this team. You guys have "done us proud". But, more to come...good luck Saturday and on to Hot Springs!!! GO Mean Green!
  14. That qualifies as an SUV in the state where family trees have no branches!
  15. The university does not have a trademark or patent on any shade of "green"...it's a color...if you want to create a green shirt that says "North Texas Pikes"...DO IT! Who did you ask and why????? I think it's a great idea, by the way. Why not do a green oxford shirt with your Greek logo and the wording "North Texas Pike"? Sounds like a great idea to me...I'll bet it would spread to other frats as well... I am still wondering who told you "no" and how they think they have the authority to do that as long as you are not utilizing the "official" UNT logo without permission. And...even if you wanted the "official" logo...why not? You are a recognized student organization and the UNT logo is on a ton of stuff! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  16. This lawsuit does bother me. I do not understand how they would have standing to sue and why one can sue over this sort of thing. I think these sort of cases are part of the reason why many have such low opinions of trial lawyers. Sure, when you need a lawyer, you need to find a good one. But, I recall when it was not ethical for lawyers to advertise. Seems that the profession of law has really developed into a retail business these days. Maybe it's the fact that (not withstanding the need for the UNT law school) that there are simply too many lawyers and there are hundreds more graduating each year. Ever check the Denton phone book and check out the number of lawyers "practicing" in Denton? Seems the profession, in some areas such as trial lawyers, have long ago stopped seeking justice and simply head for the biggest payoff where ever they can find it or make it. They simply seem to be in the profession to take care of themselves...clients are just a means to an end it seems to me. Too bad. It seems the trial lawyers have really given the rest of the profession a very bad name. We work with some very fine corporate attorneys here at our office when we need them for trademark infringement issues, tax issues, etc., etc. They are VERY professional, provide a great service at a decent fee and give us great advice. Their aim does not seem to be to sure everybody nor to seek the harshest course of action. Seems to me that is what REAL and professional attorneys do for their clients.
  17. Sure you can...but I am pretty sure you are not alone in the "Hood".
  18. Anyone? The silence is deafening.
  19. Yep, I was there...nice to see them. Does that mean one nice event promo a season is the standard for UNT? There have been " kid basketball jersey" nights as well...I am talking about doing something to get the students to turn out for this one...including the rest of the UNT athletes, frats and sororities, residence halls, etc., etc. Look, I do not mean to jump on anyone in the dept. as I am pretty darn sure they work hard and earn the pay they get. However, being a grad from three universities I get to easily compare what "my schools" are doing to promote their teams and drive attendance. At this point the comparison just "ain't very pretty"...that's all. I also realize this stuff isn't easy, but, then again, that's what folks get paid to do, right? I just wonder if there is really a focus on promotions at UNT or are our promo folks getting pulled in twenty different directions doing stuff not very related to promotions and are they getting the support they need from the rest of the dept.? When I see the stuff coming from my other two universities, I just have to wonder. This game should be a promo staff's "dream"...team is winning (it could be #20), it's senior night, the conference tournament is just a few days away, it isn't "exam time", it isn't a Saturday "date night", etc., etc. OK, off the soap box..I am simply very proud of this team and I think the Super Pit should be full for Thursday's game. Why not????? GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. No it is not a bummer! You won't remember in a few years anything about the UNT game...you will not even recall if UNT won or lost, BUT, I'll bet you donuts to dollars that you AND your daughter will remember those soccer games...PRICELESS! You get an "excused absence" for this game....some things just are not to be missed...memories made! Trust me on this one...
  21. Great job Flyer and Bostonsports....now, let's hope the word gets out. Simply amazing to me that a bunch of GMG.com posters are the ones promoting a big turnout for JJ and Co.'s 20th win night and SENIOR NIGHT. Just where in the heck is the athletic dept's. promotions staff in this? Again, i ask, does UNT athletics HAVE a promotions staff? If senior night and a win 20 night cannot elicit some sort of effort to "Pack the Pit", I really don't know what does. SO, if the ath. dept. is going to sit on their hands for this one, let's do our part to support the Mean Green. Should be a great time at the Pit Thursday as we cheer the team on to number 20 and on to Hot Springs! GO MEAN GREEN! See you at the Super Pit for Thursday's action.
  22. I'm there as well...and this may be the first +1 have given Emmitt in a long long time!!!!
  23. Just a question. How does Notre Dame's intention to stay an independent in football indicate that they are "putting themselves above the national good"? How does what football conference (or not) one is in have anything at all to do the the "national good", and why shouldn't ND do what they think is best for ND, their alumni, fans, students, etc.? I know there are plenty of folks who don't like ND for one reason or another...I tend to be neutral to somewhat positive on ND, but I really don't care if they are independent or in a conference. ND football seems to me to be doing what they think is best. Should ND or any other college/university "big enough" to go it alone join just because some see it in the "national interest" that they do so? Like I say, I am just interested in hearing from those much more "interested" in what the Big 10 and ND do or don't do than I am on this one.
  24. Pollution is one thing, and I think everyone agrees that pollution is not good and that we should all do what we can to help reduce both its cause and effect. However, sometimes, nature is against us...if one looks closely at the atmospheric conditions that exist in and around some of the most polluted cities around the globe...L.A. is a great example...Mexico City another, there is a understanding as to why some of these conditions exist to the extent that they do. No one wants pollution in the air or water or anywhere, but that "challenge" is really something different than the "global warming" issue. Believe it or not, at one time the largest pollution problem in NYC was the HORSE and all the manure created and what to do with it. Manure was piled up everywhere like snow in big mounds....and conferences were held to try to figure out what to do with it. Want to know the "solution" that developed? The automobile. That's right, the bane of today's pollution "challenge" was once the savior for the pollution problem. As Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner point out in "Super Freaknomics", man and ingenuity figured that problem out, the same two will find a solution to the problems facing our environment today. One does not need to fudge data to try to prove a point or to create issues or alarm people in order to get them to "buy into" one scientific position/ issue or another.
  25. Great ideas all. I really hope people turn out to help "reward" this team for the effort they have made this year and to thank our seniors. I find it hard to believe that "other" athletes, knowing what it takes to play in college, do not show up and support their fellow athletes...especially on senior night. Oh, well, good ideas posted here...keep 'em coming. I really hope we have the largest crowd of the season. Let's get behind the team and do all we can to drive attendance for Thursday night's game...can we get a 5000 minimum turnout in the Super Pit????? Yes, we can...GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!
