  1. By the way, my bride laughs at me too every time I call Scrappy...Eppy. She just rolls her eyes and mutters something under her breath that is none too kind...
  2. I know, but old habbits are hard to break. I thought by using Eppy...I might get more response. Like I say, old habits, etc. And, I stay confused most of the time just ask drex, SUMG, Quoner, etc., etc.
  3. OK, so are we going to try to do this or not? To date we have 14 folks saying they will play (depending upon the day and time, of course). Is that enough? I think there are more players in GMG.com land that would play...if so, I sort of need to know in order to get going on the t-shirts, field arrangements, etc., etc. How much did we charge for the T-shirts (which included a scholarship donation) last year? I would like to keep it at the same level this year, but do not recall. Also...I need t-shirt sizes, volunteers for coaching, referee, game day sign-up help volunteers, etc. Could be a great day, but at this time, not much enthusiasm for setting the game up. I KNOW you are "out there"...PM me or note it here and let's see if we can't get this on. Stebo...are you down for being one of the coaches????? Any other "volunteers" out there who would like to help make this another great and memorable GMG.com Bowl?????
  4. Hey, check out the front cover of the latest issue of Sports Illustrated! In the right hand bottom corner is none other than the Mean green's one and only EPPY! SI has six different covers for this edition. Our area gets Kansas' Sherman Collins, but the BEST part is seeing Eppy. If for no other reason that to see the great Eppy, you should check out this issue! Way to go Mean green...great PR from getting to the big dance. Even with the loss yesterday, I think the Mean Green nation as a whole can be very very proud of this team, the effort they made and the great results. It looks great for another trip next season to the NCAA Tournament. Check out Eppy on the cover of SI!!!!!! GO MEAN GREEN!
  5. Please think twice...maybe three times...before creating any signs that might cast a poor light on UNT or the Mean Green Nation. Bring on the signs and the spirit, but PLEASE PLEASE keep them rated "G" and what might be seen as "good" television PR for UNT. GO MEAN GREEN...Beat K State!
  6. These guys just cannot or will not handle the truth. Amazing stuff...they just fumble all over themselves...I don't think Stark can even spell "Economics", yet he is just so very smug about how "brilliant" he is personally on the subject while he goes off on Jan. Funny...but these are the folks running the country! WOW!
  7. Great win for the Mean Green! I do think this is just another example of the progress that UNT athletics is making overall. This is a BIG win for the program and for UNT and it was great that it was played at UNT! GO MEAN GREEN...well done!
  8. I really don't see much to get "excited" about in that article...in fact, I tend to see it as "good press" for UNT. The fact is, UNT was a "bad" program for several years before JJ arrived, and he (and his staff) has done a great job of turning the program around. He can't do much about playing in the Sun Belt, but what he can do he has done or is doing to improve the program. That's really what that article is all about. The fact that some "higher profile" school may "come calling" would be absolutely no surprise to anyone. In fact, many on this board have said things like, "I know JJ will be gone soon enough for a bigger school, but as long as he leaves UNT in good shape, well...good for him". I, for one, am not certain he will be leaving anytime soon, but you just never know in his chosen profession. But, as the article points out, JJ has built the best basketball program in the Metroplex out of a once very "down" program. The results this season will do nothing but help recruiting and help to continue the success. Now, if UNT can only start attracting bigger game day crowds.....JJ and his program have EARNED the right to see bigger crowds. If anything could "hasten JJ's departure" it might be the fact that his efforts seem "under-appreciated" by the fan base. The fan base CAN do something about that to help keep JJ at "home" with the Mean Green. GO MEAN GREEN...BEAT K ST.
  9. That's one.
  10. At that time of the day, that day of the week and given that it was Spring Break, I am pretty proud of the "several dozen" who did show up. In the past there would not have even been a scheduled send-off event! I find nothing to complain about regarding fan support for the team during the Sun Belt Tournament and the NCAA effort. By all counts UNT had one of the largest and most vocal fan contingents for the Hot Springs tournament and UNT sold out its NCAA ticket allotment very rapidly. This is very good news indeed. When UNT fans are in numbers such that they can be "disappointed" that they were not able to buy tickets to a UNT game, that's PROGRESS! Way to go Mean Green nation...you have done yourselves proud. Yes, more would be better, but those "baby steps" toward progress are getting to be "teenager steps"....I see "adult" steps on the horizon. GO MEAN GREEN!
  11. This is a pretty interesting little interview piece with Harry Reid.....I have no clue who the interviewer is or how/when he got this interview, but I just saw this "YouTube" piece today. Thought others might find it "interesting" as well..Enjoy...or not! Oh, just saw the date...Aug., 2008 so some of you may have already seen this piece, but it was "new" to me... http://www.youtube.c...h?v=H6q0slMhDw8
  12. Brought to you by the folks who want to run your health care program...using the same logic that was used here I am most certain. Pretty funny.
  13. Not to worry...she won't be around long if she keeps this crap up! Every society has their share of "whack-o's"...this is just an example of one our "ours". She isn't he only one and she won't be the last, but they are all fringe "players" and not to concern yourself over. Good Grief...how can someone be so insecure as to do this crap?
  14. The tickets may be "inexpensive", but they are not "cheap".
  15. Wasn't it reported here on GMG.com that jackson was in Hot Springs for the Sun Belt Tournament?
  16. Returned my renewal in today's mail...yes, the "processing fee" has been on prior renewals as I recall. I HATE that stuff....if you pick them up "in person", the fee should be waived. If they have to be mailed, OK, I can buy the fee...but... Anyway, just extra and much needed revenue for the program, so I am OK with the small fee. RENEW your tickets....it's the last season in Fouts and should be a great one...Cannot wait. GO MEAN GREEN!
  17. Congratulations to Coach Jones. An honor well deserved and well earned...now if only the judges will "do the right thing" and name JJ the outright winner!!! GO JJ! Great job! The whole Mean Green nation is proud of you and your team! Go Mean Green.
  18. Wow, what a great "problem" to have. Trying to figure out if a place is big enough to hold all the fans who might turn out! When was the last time this was a "problem"? I, for one, hope this turns into an annual "problem" and not just for basketball. I could argue the site both ways, but the fact that we have a "Selection Show" event is enough! When one is looking for media coverage it is always better to see a packed room (even if the room is smallish) than a big half-empty space. In the past when I have watched "Selection Shows" I do not recall many being held at "commercial" establishments. I tend to think most are held on-campus. BUT, the Pourhose is a great "friend", they have cold beer and good food. It is a "good thing" that UNT is returning the favor and helping a "friend" on what is normally a fairly slow day I would assume...at least at that time on a Sunday. GO MEAN GREEN! This is a great time to be a member of the Mean Green Nation.
  19. OK, at this point there are about 11 "let's do its", so I think we should move forward. We definitely need more participants (which I am sure we can get) and we need a date. How about Saturday April 10th (one day before the Spring game) or Sunday April 18th (OK, I'm already spoken for on the 17th)...or Saturday April 24th? If we can nail down a date (or two) I will check with RV to see if we can get the stadium open, etc. Then start all the other stuff like T_shirts...what to charge, etc. We also need team captains...who is up for that? You will have to draft players you know....we had capable captains last year...want to repeat???? Perhaps this can best be done through PM's or even "real" email and phone, but wanted to "gauge" interest before really moving ahead. And, hey...I am not trying to pull a coup and become "headmaster" here...I just want to volunteer to get things moving. If the "real" "owners" of this event want to take over...I'm good for the volunteer stuff...believe me! It's just a great time and there are a few $$$ raised for a good scholarship...I also assume participants would like to continue with that focus as well. So...Let me know if: 1) You want to Play? 2) You have a date in mind that you would prefer? 3) You want to volunteer? 4) You want to be a captain? 5) you want to assume "control" over this rabble.
  20. I am certain that no true fan of the Mean Green would set foot on the SMU campus to see this "SMU loving" guy! He has to love SMU or why else would he book his show at the place, right? How dare him! Buy a ticket and you help support SMU with some of the proceeds. man, how could...just how could...the Mean Green Nation stand for this?????
  21. Is Lindsey Vonn coaching at UNT now???????
  22. OK, question...is it time to start working on the annual GMG.Com Bowl game???? I would be happy to help as was the case last year. Would be happy to work on the design, delivery, etc. of the t-shirts as well. Or, wherever needed. I would also volunteer to be the "referee" if no one else was more qualified...I would even bring a watch and a whistle...But I would be wearing my SOCCER referee gear! For some reason, I think that would be most appropriate for the GMG.com Bowl. I "volunteer" for this thankless job only because I know last year there was a "challenge" in that area...our volunteer did a great job, but I got the feeling that he would rather be playing. If wrong...so sorry. Anyway, it was a great afternoon of fun...and liquid refreshments and food after the event... Anyone? What say you???? With Spring ball upon us, it seems appropriate to be thinking about a GMG.com bowl.
  23. I have never been treated too poorly or too rudely by opposing fans anywhere. I am speaking of "personally" here. Have I been to games where fans were rude and acting inappropriately? Absolutely! And, if we are all honest with ourselves, sometimes it is our own fans. As you can tell from the comments in this thread, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" in most cases as we cannot all agree that the lists are "correct". To be certain, some fans have "reputations" as a group, but as an individual I have never been treated rudely...yes, I have had my share of "beer showers", vulgar "cheers", immature and asinine displays, etc., but I never felt they wee directed at me personally because I was supporting the opposing team. Call me lucky, but maybe it's part of the "you often get what you expect" thing. As a Big XII grad and as a visitor to many Big XII stadiums on game day, it can get rather "partisan". have you ever been to a Bedlam game series between OU and OSU? Can get pretty intense...especially when OSU is having a "rare" football season where they actually expect to beat OU! I think what we might want to take from this thread is that we, as members of the Mean Green Nation, do not want to be seen as "rude" fans by our visitors. Treat them nice so they will come back and you can beat them again has always been my theory. I would like for fans to leave Mean Green games saying that "win or lose" the Mean Green Nation is a great group of fans and show great sportsmanship. GO MEAN GREEN.
  24. Nope...actually, when the time comes to "retire" a shirt it is given to someone else who would like it or it is disposed of in a respectful manner...not quite as respectful as the disposal of an old tattered US flag, but along those lines. Never, never would I use one to soak up oil, grease, etc. in the garage. The color, logo, etc. may be "off", but it still represents MY university. And, on another note...my wife really doesn't care what's hanging in my closet...she just likes to see her closet full with lovely new things on an on-going basis...and often!!!!
