Also...forgot something... Anyone employed by a company or know of one that might like to help sponsor this event? Would be more than happy to have their logo/name imprinted on the t-shirts if so...wouldn't be too pricey either... $100/$200/$25/$500...you all know the drill. Any ideas/takers? The more we raise the more $$$ go to the scholarship effort. What say you? Just thinking........

FFR - At this point we have 10 "official" sign-ups. But the un-official count shows 20+. This is getting to be a bit like "herding cats". Lots of folks say they want to play/will play, but they don't respond to my pleas for info. Still early...still need responses regarding t-shirt sizes and player bios.. I don't even have the player bios for the two team captains as yet...hint...hint.

I am checking on the time for graduation...but, I do think Green lot parking might be available...but, even if parking is "tight" be creative, you can find a place. But, I am checking and will let you know...if it looks like it would be too much of a "mess", we'll simply move the date a week or so. BUT, remember, there is ALWAYS SOMETHING! If we move it, we will be into high school graduations, and the lots will be just as full....if we want this to take place, we can pull it off. The vast majority who voted in the poll said they could play on the 15th. If parking is the only issue, remember your days as a student at UNT. You always found a spot.... Still need player bios and T-shirt sizes. Thanks gang...keep 'em coming. Hey, I need GMG.com Bowl T-shirt design. Any creative folks out there? Keep it simple enough so it could be one color good for green or white tees...allowing for costs to remain low so more $$$ go to the scholarship out of the $25 "entry "fee"....thanks folks.....
-
Thanks...great start...come on we need a bio for everyone playing...even if you think everyone already knows..if they did they have forgotten.
-
OK, this just in from GMG.com Bowl central...after all the "hanging chad" ballots were accounted for the date and time of the GMG.com Bowl is........drum roll please... MAY 15th (Saturday) with a 3PM kick-off at Fouts. Green Team captain-Stebo White Team captain - firefightenRick Referee- UNTFlyer Now...we need: 1) Firm playing commitments - yes, tell me again that you will play 2) t-Shirt sizes - some I have...others have ignored my pleas for sizes... 3) Player Bios for the draft...how do we do the bios? My guess is...go ahead and place them on this thread...should be fun reading. Coaches....how do you want to proceed with the draft and when? I will need time after the draft to get the t-shirts done so give me as much time as possible...please and thank you. Anyone looking to do some post-game tailgating/beverages? What about if we bring "stuff"...would someone like to volunteer to coordinate the post-game festivities????? PM me if you can help...or would like to help. OK, time to "get it on".....
-
As soon as the date is annouced and everyone commits to play or not...hopefully, early this next week we can nail down the actual players and get bios going for the "player draft" by FFR and Stebo.
-
Trust me Flyer...it's a one man job! It "ain't" the Super Bowl or anything...you definitely can handle it..... Apprecite your help with the refereeing AND in securing the flags.

OK, vote is going well and so far it looks like Saturday, May 15th at 3PM is going to win out...but voting is still "open" until the end of the day Sunday as promised. In addition, we have our two coaches and referee... Green Team Coach - STEBO White Team Coacg - FireFIghterRick Referee - None other than UNT Flyer We do need to figure out the flags...We have a couple of folks checking with the rec center...and we have an offer from a GMG.com member to purchase the flags for us so they will always be available...name will remain anonymous at this time until we know if we will need to call upon his very generous offer...but, let me say the spirit and generosity of GMG.com and Mean Green Nation members never ceases to amaze me.... Question....how many flag belts are needed and how many players for each team on the field at any one time? Hey, I'm "old" and can't remember... Also...I still do not have T-shirt sizes for many of those who have said they will play....you know what will happen if you don't let me know...you'll get a shirt probably way too big or way too small...so, let me know. Thanks to those who have private messaged me to vote on the date/time and to provide info and sizes. Fee will be $25.00 per player...donantions accepted as well...to cover costs and a donation to the Andrew Smith Scholarship fund. Payable in cash or check at the time of the game...thank you. GO MEAN GREEN! And...Go GMG.com bowl!!!!!

A win over LSU would be soooooo very big for the program. Just win, baby, and we'll see what happens after that...it's all good.

BUMP Thanks for the replies so far...need a few more to determine the date...Voting on the date runs through this Sunday...then it will be set. Who can secure the flags for us from Rec Sports this year? Who has the Andrew Smith Photo? We have Stebo as Green Team coach...we need a White Team coach...any "volunteers"????? OK, let's talk fun stuff? Anyone up for a bit of tailgating before and after the game? Adult beverages perhaps...along with the soft drinks for the kiddo's...any volunteers want to head up the pre-post game fun activities? The more folks that will help with this the better the event can be... I still need: 1) Votes on the date 2) T-shirt sizes 3) Volunteer to get the flags from rec sports...Flyer? Bstnsportsfan? Perhaps a registered student would have more luck than an alum....just thinking... 4) White Team Coach 5) Pre/post-game "fun" organizer/volunteer. Looking good folks...should be fun...

OK...I heard back from the athletic dept. We can use Fouts: APRIL 25th (Sunday)-would make for a nice afternoon game ... say 2PM or 3PM start time May 15th (Saturday)....perhaps again a 2PM start to help with any kiddo's playing that day earlier or we can go on May 16th (Sunday) May 22nd (Saturday) May 23rd (Sunday). here's the deal...too many choices...SO I will say it is either Sunday April 25th or Saturday May 15th. The voting.... via private message here on GMG.com will last through Sunday. Then either the majority of those who vote will rule...or if no one votes I'll make the call. As things go here on GMG.com, I know there wioll be "date controversy and time controversy...but, as we all know...you can't please all the people all the time... Also...we need: 1) Confimed playing commitments 2) T-Shirt Sizes 3) Cost = $25.00 each to cover T-Shirt and some $$$ for the GMG.com Andrew Smith Scholarship fund...Is that fair???? ALSO...In dire need of two Coaches...STEBO?????? Want to coach once more? Anyone else...we will need you.....CAN WE DO THIS?????

Oh, how "touchy feely" you are today...I did not say I didn't care about people dying...I said I didn't care if gang members killed other gang members. I VERY much care about all the thousands of innocent lives that have been lost to gang violence. To me a thug killing another thug is a "public service" of sorts as it keeps the cops from having to shoot someone, keeps the thugs out of our court system and jails and keeps innocents from having to pay welfare to these thugs if they do survive into old age. Ok, so that's a bit "cold"...and yes, they are people. But, you choose (yes, it is a choice) the gang life and you are then pretty much in line to get what you signed up for in the first place. How many innocent lives have been destroyed by these thugs? If one gets killed while "on the job"...so be it. If you want to adopt a few "retired" gang members and let them babysit for you and your kids/grand kids...OK, good for you. You want to rehabilitate these thugs, good for you. But, I'll not be looking for a "gang nanny" even if they are "people too". Please don't try to play "holier than thou" with me....if you have an opinion about these thugs, state it, but keep what you THINK I believe out of it. It's sad to me that you thought that comment was appropriate.

Sharpton: You Voted For
KRAM1 replied to eulesseagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The US is one of the ONLY industrialized nations that penalizes capital formation. Amazing stuff that...there is absolutely ZERO reason to tax interest on savings, dividends and capital gains. NONE! It penalizes people for saving and it slows capital formation in the country...something that is sorely needed at this time. Yet, even now congress is looking to increase the tax on dividends and capital gains. The absolute insanity of that is something to behold. -
UNT has a fine soccer field already. Just add some additional stands and a nice press box and concession stand...wouldn't cost much at all.

OK, but you simply have too much time on your hands.

Very disturbing. If there were ever a good case for cross-border cooperation this seems to be it. However, several things are at play here. Not the least of which is that there is still a "culture" of "payoff" in Mexico that keeps many law enforcement, military and government officials simply "looking the other way" or actually abetting the narco gangs. Plus, with VERY strict gun laws, the average citizen has no real way of protecting themselves. This comes straight from my very good friend that has lived in Monterrey all his adult life and is very involved in local politics and business (the legal kind). He maintains a home in Laredo for his family as well as the family home in Monterrey. On the other hand, for the drug culture and narco gangs to exist there has to be a market for the illegal drugs in the first place. I wonder how many who use illegal substances in the US (and elsewhere) understand that they are part of the problem and that they are helping to allow this violence to continue and to grow? Every "joint" adds to the problem. And, many of the buyers of these drugs are fairly well educated folks. They simply turn their heads and think "it's not me"...."I am only smoking a little weed for personal use...I'm not harming anyone". Really???? Think about it. No, I am not blaming the U.S. or the "user" for this problem. Only indicating that part of the problem indeed lies north of the Rio Grande. If you buy or use drugs YOU ARE definitely part of the problem. Justify it anyway you would like if it makes you feel better about the role you play, but you ARE part of the problem. Now, if you want to legalize marijuana, go for it. I am sure you could find plenty of folks to support your efforts and plenty of U.S. firms who are anxious to get into the business of legally selling the stuff. Personally, I would have no real problem with the legalization of marijuana as it could then be TAXED and regulated. You want lower healthcare costs, legalize this stuff and tax the heck out of it. Comparing a legal drug such as alcohol to an illegal one is a lame argument at best. Simple fact is...one is legal...one is not. If you can't understand that difference, well, no wonder you are part of the problem. Prohibition was repealed, go get active and change the laws to legalize marijuana if you want. If it's that great, then surley you can muster enough support to get the laws changed, right? Mexico and the United States CAN solve this problem, but it will take some bold and perhaps controversial moves on the part of both countries working TOGETHER to solve the problem. Mexico is (I believe) our largest trading partner (at least for goods from Texas) and a very close neighbor who needs our help and support. However, the U.S. needs the help and support of Mexico as well. I don't mind gang members killing other gang memebrs either, but that is not the only consequense of this narco war. It is shutting down businesses, closing schools, destroying towns, and resulting in the deaths of innocent people as well as the narco thugs. The next time you or somone you know "lights up" give it some thought. The "buzz" you get may just be helping to destroy the lives of some innocent people in many different ways.

Check out the local news stands at CVS, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, 7/11, etc., etc. Perhaps, if not that, you could try the SI website. Or, some hi-tech GMG.com'er might that a cover shot and post it on GMG.com....anyone. hey, the magazine doesn't cost THAT much!

OK...great Anyone have any "graphic skills" ? Who wants to design this years T-Shirts? I am working on Fouts and the date this week, but need to get going on the T-shirts as well. Anyone have any graphics talent they would like to share? How about PM'ing me with some ideas/drawings, etc. I know for a fact from some of the "stuff" I have seen on here that we have some "creative" folks out there...me, not so much. I'll look for your PM's...thanks. Hope to be back to everyone this week with the date/time.
-
Going to check on Fouts availability BEFORE setting date. That will determine date...we'll see what they say...back to you soon.

OK, shame on the person who gave me a negative one for this post...just where is your sense of humor???? Ha! I probably deserved the negative one because I was so focused on Eppy/Scrappy that I missed Josh White being on the cover as well. I see him now...he's in between the legs of Collins. Maybe that's why I didn't see him in the first place...I'm not in the habit of looking in that area. Man, some of you folks just have no sense of humor AT ALL!

OK, I'll get a date...and we'll see how we go from there. Be back with you soon.
