  1. Speaking of the spread...I read an article recently where Mac Brown said they are going back to "under center" at Texas to more fully utilize the skill of his QB, and that it may be the the "spread" has pretty much run its course in D-1 football. The article quoted a few other D-1 coaches as well that noted a trend developing that moves away from the spread. Is this the start of the end for the spread as a "big time player" in D-1 ala the Wishbone??? Mac brown said they were going to more of a pro-set offense at Texas. Interesting area to explore I think.
  2. BUMP...just trying to keep this "on top" to get the needed info up to date.
  3. I think we'll be fine with either, but I have to agree with Emmitt here...unless Thompson is "head and shoulders" (and not the shampoo variety) better than Tune coming out of "fall ball", I think you go with Tune. If Tune stumbles you always have Thompson to fall back on and its possible that Tune starts as #1, but Thompson ends the season as #1...I hope Tune gets the nod as he is a senior and has stayed with the Mean green when other departed, and has filled in well when given the opportunity. Thompson should see plenty of playing time in 2010, but at this point I think it is as s #2 to Tune. By the way, Emmitt...are you playing in the GMG.com Bowl this year? I have sent you a couple of PM's....do you check your PM's? Just wondering. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. I believe it was the head coach who moved the game to Sunday (in fact he made that comment at last Wednesday night's event). I do not believe the fact that the Masters was on had THAT much effect on crowd size. I do think the fact that it was not publicized nor any events planned around it for families, students, etc, may have had a significant effect on crowd size. But, if the Masters on TV is why one didn't attend, so be it. However, I did watch a bit of the Masters on a TV set up at a tailgate. There is always some competing event.

So, it is now time to finalize this thing...if you want to play...and we do need players...the more the merrier and the fewer aches and pains one will have the next day. 6. It was a great afternoon at Fouts yesterday, and there were so many things to be excited about for 2010 that it would be hard to list them all here. The Mean Green will be just fine at QB...with either Tune or Thompson getting the starting nod. Thompson looked the better of the two earlier while Tune came on pretty strong in the "second half". Never saw any play from under center, but maybe I missed it. Seeing Micah at Tight End was interesting. Finding ways to get this kid on the field is a plus in my book. Good to see. I was not overly thrilled with the defense early, but they seemed to step up a bit as the day went on, and I saw many things to be happy about. I know some folks were "happy" with the tailgate crowd and the size of the crowd attending the game itself. And, in some ways, so am I. But...why does UNT not make a big deal out of this spring event? It's an ideal time to sell season tickets, to get the Mean Green faithful "fired up", to push the stadium and contributions, etc., etc. It was mentioned to me by a couple of ladies in the tailgate area that there was not even one "porta potty" set up. I have been at games where a crowd of 3800 would have seemed good, but I was a bit disappointed in the crowd. However, due to the lack of any effort on the part of the Ath Dept to really publicize this event, I think it was a nice turnout. It was good to see my "seat pals" doing their tailgate thing, and to re-connect with some folks I had not seen since the end of last season. It really was fun, and the team showed me lots to be excited about for 2010. Fun day to be at Fouts...lots of changes coming to this team in 2010, and from my seat yesterday, things are looking UP for the Mean Green. Can't wait to see the sets, coverages, etc. on day one of the 2010 season. I hope the Mean Green faithful will turn out and support the team and I hope the ath dept. finds a way to publicize the season, get the students more involved and really go after new season ticket buyers. It should be a great year to say good-bye to our old friend Fouts Field. One thing RV mentioned at last Wednesday's event at Park Place Lexus was that UNT should stop thinking of itself as the "beer and pretzels" school and start looking at itself as the "champagne and scotch" university and athletic program. Well, yesterday would have been a good day to start that "champagne and scotch" thing...opportunity missed perhaps, but more will follow. It's Going To Be A Great Year to be a member of the Mean Green Nation. Yesterday was a nice start....see you at Fouts. GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. So, drex...did you then skip the spring game? I looked for you, but could never find you...In that crowd of 3900 you might have gotten lost, but I looked...
  8. Are we seeing the "same Rangers" after all? Hard to believe this team is not hitting, not pitching and not closing. Man, I really do hope we are not seeing the same stuff again this saeson. Too early to tell, but the start is not too promising. By the way FC Dallas is undefeated in two starts...ties to be sure, but better record than the Rangers after two games. OK, just kidding...after two games and no losses, FC Dallas finds themselves in about the same spot in the standings as the Rangers. Is this shaping up to be "another one of the same" for the Rangers already??? I sure hope not.
  9. Way to go ladies. Just one more oif the several athletic teams at UNT doing much better these days. Good things continue to happen at UNT. GO Ladies!!!!
  10. I like the "light him up" part. We can provide him some "change he can believe in" with a bullet right between his ever lovin' traitor eyes! That is, of course, if caught on the battlefield or in command of a field operational unit, etc. Otherwise, I would prefer to capture the scum, try him as the traitor he is and then execute him. I like seeing the justice system work properly!
  11. Not any loner after two whole games. We may have just seen the last of "The Rangers are in First Place" cheering for the season, however, I am hopeful that the pitching will, indeed, come around for a change and that the bats will heat up as the weather heats up into the summer. This just could be the year...but, this team has disappointed more often than not, so we'll just have to curb the enthusiasm for "first place" a bit and hope for the best. Good luck rangers...they will definitely need some luck to get though the season in playoff position...could happen.
  12. And so you should. Only seems right and proper. I do, however, think the beauty lies in your corner...not that tall guys. Glad to see you are playing...maybe you can play in those high heel cowboy boots of yours!
  13. I heard an administration "person" indicate that it WAS NOT the authorization of an assassination, but rather the authorization of a "TARGETED KILLING". Gee, that sounds pretty much like an assassination to me. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck...I would think it's pretty much a duck. Anyone wonder what the media would have done to Bush had he authorized this and then tried to say it was not the authorization of an assassination? While I tend to think this guy needs to be "eliminated", and will probably shed no tears when he is no longer with us, I think this pretty much falls in line with the sort of thing all the libs and dems were so "fired up" about with the Bush Administration. But, since it was authorized by the Obama Administration, I guess the deed gets a pass from the media. Nice! Just another indication that actually having to lead is a whole bunch different than being out on the campaign trail promising "stuff" to all comers just to get elected. So, this is the "change" we can believe in........this is pretty interesting stuff...no matter which side of the aisle you favor.
  14. I, for one, hope he does get to play D-1 ball at his new school. The kid played his heart out for the Mean Green.
  15. So, here's another shot I was sent...I was thinking that's a pretty nice looking cop...then I saw the gun on her hip and decided to just go have another beer!
  16. So Check out the shirt! Someone on the trip with us just sent me this photo..it was taken this last September in Munich at Oktoberfest...while I was still upright...and I now have proof of that fact! Go Mean Green!
  17. I wasn't referring to your "signing up"... It was that "tall athletically handsome" thing.
  18. I think he'll stay and make another run at it next season. If that season goes any where near as well as this last one...he'll then probably leave. The $$$$ they will throw at him to move will be just too much to turn down.
  19. I just wanted to take a second...well, maybe a bit more...to say what a nice event Jordan case and Park Place Lexus hosted last evening for UNT. The food was great...everything from brisket to sushi, and the adult beverages were outstanding! Even had a guest appearance by two-time Dancing With the Stars winner and current country music star, Julianne Hough (one could have their photo taken with Ms Hough should they wish). Both RV and TD spoke abut the program and facilities and how both are seeing excellent progress. It was very little "sales pitch" and very much how UNT should stop thinking of itself as a "beer and pretzels" program and start realizing and believing that it is a "champagne and scotch" program. I had the opportunity to speak to both RV and Todd and Elizabeth Dodge (even got RV and TD to sign my stadium hard hat), and many Mean Green faithful. Believe it or not even Lee Jackson was in attendance. Both RV and TD stressed how UNT needs more season ticket sales and how important it is for the players to see a "sea of green" when they enter the stadium. They talked about how hard the players are working and how very set they are on making 2010 a winning season. One thing that struck me as important came from RV last evening and it is something I have been trying to get across to certain folks for some time...it is about UNT and one's support for THEIR SCHOOL. It's not always about the W's and L's! RV mentioned that when Lou Holtz took over at South Carolina he won few if any games in his first two seasons but the stands had 80,000 plus fans for every game. Why? Because the grads, fans and current student body supported the University...it was their school win, lose or draw. I just stood there thinking why UNT was "different" when it comes to that, and it came to me that it doesn't have to be all that different, and how much progress has been made in recent years to upgrade the facilities and the programs at UNT. If you think about it at all, think about the progress that has been made in tennis, basketball, golf, swimming, volleyball, softball (UNT BEAT TEXAS no less), soccer and yes, even football in the last few years. UNT has that stadium going vertical that it has needed (and many AD's have promised) for so long. Anyway, nice event last evening. If you were there I am sure you will agree about the quality of the event, and maybe you could add a line or two. If you couldn't make it, I would encourage you to try to make any future event hosted by Jordan Case and/or park Place Lexus...great job! GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. Just wanted to "bump" this back up a bit to remind everyone that the event is this evening...everyone is welcome.....
  21. Plenty glad to have you on board untgirl04...and, I know mrsgreengoblin will be happy to have another lady warrior on the field...now about that "tall and athletically handsome forevereagle".......
  22. Really? Of all the teams, sports and positions in college sports, you see playing QB for UNT as the toughest position? How so?
  23. Like drex, I wouldn't mind seeing what the Mean Green could do with Dom at the point and Josh playing the shooting guard #2 spot. Might be very interesting.
  24. Good kid...I wish him all the success in the world. Thanks for all your hard work for the Mean Green, Collin. Well done and all the best. GO MEAN GREEN!
  25. Please let us know if you wish to play...and those who have indicated that they will be playing....please get your info posted as soon as possible. Should be fun...come be part of it...everyone is welcome to play....I just know we have more GMG.com'ers who would like to play than have signed up to date.
