  1. Great comeback win for the SBC crown and a spot in the NCAA's! FANTASTIC!!!! Good for the team, good for future recruiting and GREAT for UNT. Just another example of how things really are moving forward in a very positive way both academically and athletically at UNT. Congratulations!!!! GO MEAN GREEN...on to the NCAA's!!!!
  2. WOW...not taking anything away from the post, but do you really think Colt McCoy "wimped out"? You have got to be kidding with that line of thought. The kid could not even hold on to a football and couldn't throw the thing across a locker room to his dad. Do you really think that Colt McCoy wanted to stay out of that game? I am in no way a Texas fan or a apologist for Colt McCoy, but to think he did not return because he wimped out is really pushing it. I have asked several MD's (one being my son) about that injury and to a one they said it would have been a disaster had he tried to play. Not that he would have done any real damage to himself, but that he would not have been able to pass the ball more than about 5 yards and that without accuracy at all. OK, so play and hand the ball off every play or give your team a chance by inserting healthy yet unproven QB. I know exactly which call I would make. Deep, great stuff on Scott Hall...a great UNT QB. But, I do think you are a bit off base thinking McCoy "wimped out". he may well prove to be injury prone...perhaps why he was drafted as late as he was, and he may not have a long NFL career, but a wimp...I think not. Any kid who has played the number of football games this kid had, and who has played at the level he played and taken the hits in practice and in games that he has over his career, in no wimp. BTW...SCOTT HALL will be in Denton and has committed to play in this year's GMG.com Bowl on Saturday, may 15th...3PM...UNT Soccer Complex. Everyone is invited to come out and play (it's not too late to sign up to play), to tailgate, to watch, etc., etc. Donations will be accepted for the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship fund, but you do not have to donate to come out and enjoy the event. It is open to one and all. Should be fun....come join us!
  3. How about... "We Believe". Sort of fits with some of the slogan work we have seen recently and ties in pretty nicely with the new stadium project. Many of the ones posted on this thread are very good...hard to pick.
  4. OOPS...I"ll have to fix that.
  5. OK, two ways to go on this now that we have the GREAT UNT #11 joining us for the game...can't wait to "get it on"! As "Commissioner"...I just knew there would be a benefit to this position sooner or later we can handle this a few way: 1) First pick in the draft goes to the coach who pays the commissioner the biggest bribe or provides the most beer! 2) Commissioner can do a coin toss for the first pick (witnessed, of course, by a person or persons of unquestionable morality (which leaves out everyone who posts on GMG.com) 3) we can have UNTQB11 play for both teams...playing one-half for each squad. I know which way I would go, but as this has been a fairly "open" game, I am willing to listen to which option the majority of those playing would like...if you are playing and have listed such, vote away....if you are thinking about playing, maybe this new addition will help make up your mind...if so, post your bio and VOTE for #1,2, or three above! You can vote with a PM to me, as we did the playing date and time, or you can post here in the "open"...you decide. BTW...player draft will be next Sunday, MAY 2nd...after that t-shirts will be ordered in the proper size and color... GONNA BE GREAT FUN...come out and play (sign-up first please), come out and tailgate or come out and watch the fun (and maybe make a donation to the scholarship fund...not required, of course)...but it should be a great day of fun for the GMG.com Nation....I'm bringing my stadium "hard hat" and will ask UNTQB11 to sign it.....
  6. Our Green Team captain, harry, came up with the idea to ask for possible sponsors for the player T-shirts to help add dollars to the amount going to scholarships. I won't repeat everything in this thread, but will mention that I started a new thread about possible sponsorships in the football section. If interested give that a read and either post there or PM me...I do hope someone can help as it will definitely add to the scholarship dollars raised. Thanks for considering it.
  7. Folks; I'll mention this in the "official" GMG.com Bowl thread as well, but thought a new thread might pick up a more varied readership. In corresponding with Green Team captain, harry, he mentioned that we could raise more scholarship money if we found someone or some company to sponsor the T-Shirts for the event. We would definitely imprint the logo of the sponsor on the shirt if we found an interested party. That would be no problem at all. It might be a good chance to help a good cause for not much money at all. I am thinking that $300 would be a good number. Anyone think they know of a possible sponsor they might be willing to talk with? Or, does anyone out there in GMG.com land own or work for a company that might be willing...OR, anyone want to consider doing it on a personal basis? Anyway, I thought Harry had a great idea. If you would like to help, just post here or if you want it a bit more private, just PM me with some contact info and I'll get with you ASAP. Thanks in advance for the help. Every $$$ we raise over the cost goes to the Andrew Smith Scholarship fund at UNT. A very worthy cause indeed! Thanks.
  8. One reason you should buy football and basketball tickets! These young ladies are great and I am glad to see they are receiving some well EARNED recognition. This stuff is hard and these young ladies work very very hard and put in some long hours and give up lots of "free time" to support programs at UNT. Well done ladies...GREAT things are happening at UNT. Thanks for posting this SUMG! GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. Dez Bryant...the league's next "Randy Moss". To this day Jerry is kicking himself for not taking Moss when he had the chance. He might see this as "redemption time" and go for Bryant...if he falls a bit in the draft which is highly possible. Hey, the guy forgot his shoes at his own pro-day event! Look, as an OSU alum, I can tell you this kid is not a bad kid or a discipline problem. Goofy he is...and I would definitely not let him too close to Marty B on the Cowboys should they draft him, and definitely NEVER let them room together, but Dez Bryant should not be a "problem child" for the Cowboys should they take him. That being said, one never knows "until they know" what new-found $$$$$ millions will do to any kid. I like Dez Bryant for the pick.
  10. Yep...Smitty did a GREAT job for us. He deserves 100% of the credit and thanks for the design.
  11. Hey, SUMG...happy birthday, pal. You made it to another year in what I hope will be a very long and happy string of birthdays. Happy Birthday to a long-time and very loyal member of the MEAN GREEN NATION! It's YOUR DAY...you own it...make it a great one! Mark
  12. Might even be time to put the Rangers themselves out top pasture! Something smells "rotten in Denmark" with this team. Maybe snake bit or anger of the baseball "gods", who knows. But already the season is beginning to look like a mess. Doesn't mean there will not be some good baseball to watch, but if one expects the Rangers in the playoffs, well, at this point it might be good to simply "adjust" hopes and expectations for the year. Hey, it's the same as always it appears. At least ranger fans have consistency, right?
  13. The Radisson, which opened I think, as a Sheraton, was nice when it first opened and for several years after. Just seems that in the last few years it started to run downhill a bit and the maintenance, etc. simply did not keep up. I would think that perhaps room revenue suffered some from the many other hotels/motels springing up around Denton and the rumors of the new stadium and the lease for the Radisson being on a "death watch" list. Seems $$$ just stopped flowing. Good riddance at this point, but I, too, have some good memories of the place through the years. I also hope for a new hotel in it's place. Denton does need a "larger" hotel with larger banquet room space, etc. Couldn't hurt being so close to the great new stadium either.
  14. Do tell us how you know that? As all the "cool kids" on the board will tell you, I don't know anything, so would appreciate your filling me in on all your wisdom in this regard. BTW, my posts tend to support your position that Tune is the "guy" to start the season at QB. Looking forward to hearing your expanded thoughts on the subject. I'm not "jumping your case" at all, I really do want to hear more of your thoughts on the subject. Really. GO MEAN GREEN!
  15. BUMP...Draft is approaching. Please sign up now and get your bio ready for the player draft. Gonna be fun! All the "cool kids" will be there...well, maybe not, but it will be fun...GAME ON!
  16. I agree...and, at least someone found something new to complain about. You might not want to stop in Sack N Save if you only speak English and ask for those directions...just saying. Ok, smile a little, it's a joke. Not too much UNT can do about that property or how it looks, but one might think UNT and the City would want to get together and maybe figure out how to "spruce up" that whole area as it really is the "entry" for the new stadium and for UNT in general if you are coming from the south. Perhaps there is something the "economic commission" or "sports authority" or both...or some other entity to be formed jointly between UNT and the City of Denton could do to provide a tax or financial incentive for the property owners to "remodel" at least the exteriors of the whole area. Good point, aprice.
  17. Potty mouth! -1 for you, Sir, children are reading!
  18. But, that's why we have you...to always let everyone else know that there are only a very select few "cool kids" who can figure out what other people are really saying. You know, how the "cool kids" snicker and assume they are they only ones who can really play the game. Appreciate the help. Maybe some folks actually did "get it", but are just stating their own opinions and comments. Hard to imagine, but it could be true. BTW...I think the sarcasm in the above is easy enough for even us "non-cool kids" to figure out. Fire away! But, do it nicely.
  19. Welcome to the club. The membership is very exclusive! I'll give you a +1. I thought you had a valid position and expressed it well.
  20. Well said. +1 to you, Sir!
  21. Yep, and they suspended Dez Bryant for the season. Some things with the NCAA just make no sense at all. It is certainly all about the money and the influence. Do you think the NCAA is taking its cue from some Mexican drug cartel on how to "win friends and influence enemies"?
  22. I think UNT is beginning to position itself as the program of choice for these type of players who realize that the chances of seeing significant playing time is much greater at UNT than at Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc., etc. Tough to "beat" the bright lights and big names of certain schools in the recruiting process, but it does seem some kids are beginning to figure it out. Too bad more don't figure it our BEFORE that opt for the big time program and a nice spot on the bench. The things UNT is doing to upgrade its facilities and programs will certainly give more players a reason to make UNT their "first" choice. Good things are happening at UNT. GO MERAN GREEN!
  23. I don't disagree, but do think Tune should get the nod going into the fall. Tune has demonstrated that he can play, and the team seems to respond to him in a positive fashion. No hard letting Thompson "mature" a bit behind Tune going into the fall. Should Tune stumble, which I seriously doubt he will, Thompson should be ready to go and step into the job with his teammates confidence and support. There is always the possibility that Tune starts the season as number 1, but the season ends with Thompson as #1. Things happen. But, I am good with Tune as the starting QB with Thompson getting decent playing time and gaining experience and confidence as the season wears on. Nice to have two good QB's when you lose your #1 to injury.
  24. Just enjoying the +/- thing and seeing it for what it is. Sorry that what I do or don't do seems to bother you so much. I have advocated against the +/- thing as I felt it would become just what it has, but I do get some "jollies" out of messing around with it. You have your "joys" on the board, I have mine. Folks do some "interesting" things when they think they are anonymous. That's why I let any and all know who I really am and enjoy meeting other GMG.com posters in "real life". Some just seem to avoid that possibility so they can continue to post in anonymity, no problem at all. To each his/her own.
