Absolutely an amazing day on Wall Street. Close to a 1000 point drop in the matter of a few minutes. Simply amazing. I am glad I wasn't focused on the markets yesterday. I don't "trade" much as I am more of a buy and hold guy so didn't get caught with any stop losses either. While I have never been a "broker" I did work for SmithBarney for about six years as a wholesaler (on the private bank lending side), and saw lots of "concern" in the offices from time to time. Investing in the markets these days is not for the weak of heart.

I am anxious to see the green team QB at the start. Do you think they might have a secret weapon in hiding?

Good question. -
Wow, some serious smack talk going on. The build up to the game is making for some great game day possibilities. Can't wait to see if reality matches talk. By the way, game time is 3PM...we hope to actually start playing at 3PM. So, please try to arrive in plenty of time to warm-up, collect your GMG.Com Bowl shirt, etc., etc. And...please pray for good weather. We need all the help we can get.

So, this is now a site where all the pseudo-grammar elites like to hang out? It's amazes me how often one will see some sort of "correction" made by one the grammar-snobs on board just to see the grammar-snob turn around and make an error. But, of course, no ground swell of criticism comes their way after the error. I'll worry about all the grammar and spelling errors when it means something. Here, not so much. I'm looking for content and opinions here, not English lessons. Besides, has all the criticism changed anything? Why not worry about something you can do something about? And, if you can do something about it, why worry? By the way, I thought this was a thread relating to an article on Mean Green signee Blake Dunham. Wow, it's plenty fine to hijack the thread, but don't you dare post in any manner other than the most proper form. Hijacking is allowed, but spelling and grammar must be precise. Nice. OK, grade away grammar snobs.

Del Taco And Five Guys Burgers
KRAM1 replied to SUMG's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
First 5 guys I visited was when I was in Norfolk, Va visiting one of my kids...great stuff...the burgers are cooked to order and you can load 'em up with what you like. Fries are good and portion size is pretty big. There is a Five Guys in the Galleria Mall in Dallas. I am glad to see it coming to Denton, and have to believe it will do well...much better, in my opinion, than Fuddruckers. Fuddruckers is good, but the one in Denton seems, to me, to be a notch below the one's I have visited in other cities/areas. Bring on Five Guys! -
Personally, I think UNT is well set at the deep snapper position. I believe UNT's current (and college experienced) deep snapper has proven to be able to handle the chores just fine. Troy K. is a senior this next season, so having young Dunham "in the wings" is a very nice thing for the Mean Green. A redshirt year makes a ton of sense for this young man. I think this is a good addition to the squad for several reasons and I'm glad to have him. Again, redshirt this next year, of course, but given that he should get bigger, stronger and faster...I see good things in the years to come. Welcome to the Mean Green.

Financial Reform
KRAM1 replied to SilverEagle's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Ed Wallace???? Ed Wallace is the expert of all things Wall Street now? Conveniently left out Washington's active and passive roles in this debate. Nice. One may want to recall that it was Congress who had a hand in creating this situation and in loosening each and every law and regulation that led to the creation of the current rendition of what we refer to as "Wall Street". And many folks in DC (both republican and democrat) profited nicely from Wall Street while they now rant about its abuses and bring the CEO's in front of the camera to grandstand for the public. Do we need some financial reform, absolutely. Does Ed Wallace have a clue of what he speaks? Hardly! While Ed relaxes in the $2,500 + suits he wears and rides around NYC in the limo I sure he has a real feel for the middle class. Too funny. Maybe he should do a 60 minuets segment..... -
2010 - Best Of Denton

Steve's was classic small joint BBQ...and, yes, I recall the Downtowner...went there a few times. Seemed to start off great but taper off a bit in quality as it "aged". But, do recall some good times at the Downtowner! -

I stop by Mr. Frosty a couple of times every month. Good stuff and a great family owned spot. They have some neat car shows on the lot from time to time too...just good "old fashioned" burgers, dogs, etc. What I remember about Denton the most are the great old food joints that have gone by the wayside through the years...like.. Verne's (ice cream, etc.) Tom & Joe's The Juicey Pig LaSalle's Barlow's Hickory House Malt 'N Berg and the list goes on...too many stories to post about each of these places, but each was "greatness" in its own way, and so were the countless other mom and pop's in Denton in the mid-60's to late 70's. -

The governor of the state of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans initially said they had it covered too. Again, I am glad that the press is not trying to make a political game out of this...just looks like some individuals are...time to focus energy on getting this stopped, cleaned up and learning another lesson. NO ONE wanted this to happen and no one is getting any pleasure out of what happened. The good people of Louisiana and the gulf coast have suffered plenty in recent years, but have come back strong and will again...much to their own initiative and can do spirit. -

Immigration Reform
KRAM1 replied to gangrene's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
What the Arizona law is actually doing is forcing the Obama Administration to focus on immigration reform MUCH sooner than they had wanted to. The administration had hoped to be able to delay any immigration reform talk until after the mid-term elections. Well, that plan is now history and they are being forced to deal with it. Like the Arizona law or hate the Arizona law, it just may be the catalyst to get the federal government off their collective rear ends to actually take responsibility for an issue that has been ignored for many many years and by administrations of both parties. The weekend "talking heads" (Al Sharpton, etc.) are forcing the administration's hand, and now we will see where this heads. The Arizona law (given the change recently) will definitely be challenged in court, but it looks pretty strong and may well stand the challenge. Did anyone else notice the lack of Mexican flags in this year's edition of the immigration march in Dallas and across the nation? A good lesson learned from the last march where you saw nothing but Mexican flags and caused a very big controversy. You do have to hand it to the organizers of this year's march. They learned a very big lesson and executed it well during this year's march. -

I am a big fan of the nuclear power option, but all options have their own sort of risks. Life, in general, is a risk. "Stuff" happens and it can be bad. No one wants this sort of thing to happen, especially not the oil and gas firms. It is, indeed, their worst nightmare. But, they do happen, and they will...one day one of the wind turbines will collapse and fall on something or someone...does that mean we shouldn't use wind power? Dams have broken in the past...does that mean we shouldn't harness the power of water? The Russians had a bit of a problem with a nuke plant...again, should we eliminate the nuclear power option altogether? No to all of the above. We must do the best we can to minimize the dangers and contain the damage should a problem occur. And, we must continue to look for alternative and new sources of power...hydrogen anyone? One thing I am a bit happy about is that the media is not calling for Obama's head for his delay in sending in the federal gov't help. We don't need that sort of thing as was done to the Bush administration when Katrina hit. I wouldn't expect the media to make a big deal out of it like they did the previous administration for obvious reasons, but it is good it hasn't been a topic of discussion. What needs to be the topic of discussion is how we mitigate the damage, fix the leak and find ways to keep it from happening once again. The environment will recover, fishing will return, the economy of the gulf will rebound, and, hopefully, lessons will be learned. Anyone who thinks this is a Republican or a democrat "issue" or that someone in the oil and gas industry is enjoying this situation is just plain "nuts". This is a problem for America and a challenge for the gulf region. America and the resilient people who live and work in the gulf region will overcome this disaster and will be stronger and better for it. -

Good to see some additional players signing up for the game...the more the merrier!!! Just a reminder that the "entry fee" is $25.00 payable in cash (preferred) so expenses can be covered. The remaining will, of course, go to the scholarship fund. An accounting will be posted after the game on the board so all will know how the funds were allocated and spent...and how much we were able to add to the scholarship fund. If anyone wishes to make an additional donation to the fund, a separate check payable to the Andrew Smith memorial Scholarship Fund would be fine...or cash and it will be added to the funds. Bring your beverages and tailgate food for the after-game party. I know not everyone will be able to bring beverages and/or food. No problem...just come and share with others...sharing is encourage at this event! The only requirement is to HAVE FUN! Don't forget that the draft is at 3PM TODAY (Sunday) in the chat room. I will try to be there to make all those "high level" Commissioner decisions that will surely have to be made! That is...if I can figure out how the chat room works in time!

I have just been given permission to name another of our sponsors...a Corporate and personal sponsorship from none other that UNTQB11 himself...Scott Hall and his firm Matheus Lumber! So, get this GOMEANGREEN'ers...not only is Scott coming to town to play in the game, he has stepped up along with the Tunes (and a couple of still un-named sponsors) to help provide additional funding for the scholarship! Folks, it just doesn't get much better than this...I think this is going to be a great GMG.com Bowl...just look at the folks who have worked and/or stepped up to make this a great event... 1) Un-named sponsor bought our flag belts so we will not have to beg or borrow any longer 2) Smitty created a great logo for the game and our shirts 3) Harry and forevereagle agreed to captain 4) UNT Flyer stepped up to volunteer to referee the game 5) UNT QB11 agreed to not only play but to sponsor the event 6) The Tune family saw the posts on line about the game and stepped up to sponsor, and 7) We have another un-named sponsor who has provided additional funding 8) UNTQB11 contacted Andy Blount (TheGoodShepherd) who has agreed to play 9) and we have had 20+ players agree to play and make it a great event. Many many thanks to all...everyone deserves a big thank you for helping to make this event happen and to build $$$ for the Andrew Smith memorial Scholarship Fund. Folks, it just doesn't get much better...I am so proud to be a member of the GREAT MEAN GREEN NATION.

AMEN to that. The Texas Pickup in it's heyday was a GREAT GREAT place! No local place has been able to re-create that Texas Pick-Up thing after it closed. Man, our whole family loved that place. I have plenty of Texas PU stories and memories! Thanks for reminding me. If you want Bari's, there is a Bari's in Flower Mound. Last time I was there it was the same good stuff. I do not understand why they sold the Denton spot...too bad...way too bad! Just not the same, but Luigi's out on 380 (University Dr. near the I-35 end) in the Albertson's shopping Center is also pretty good for a Bari-like meal.
