Way to go ladies...keep it going!

Good luck, Collin...I hope he has a great season for the ponies and gets into law school. The harder thing might be landing a job after law school they was law firms are cutting back right and left these days. But, who knows what the demand will be after Collin graduates in 3-4 years. Good luck, young man, and thanks so much for all you did while at UNT. You will always be a member of the Mean green family to me!

Can't believe we are now on the eve of the event. Everything seems to be in place, so I wanted to provide the details once again. Date: SATURDAY, May 15th Time: Kick-off at 3:00PM - I will arrive around 2PM as am told the gate will be open at 2PM. May need some help setting out the markers for the field if anyone else cares to arrive a bit early. If not, I'll get my bride to help. Forced labor is often expensive later, however! Cost: $25.00 per player - cash preferred, but check OK (no credit cards)...watching is Free...we encourage "fans" to come-all welcome! Location: UNT Soccer Complex/field - Bonnie Brae (old Liberty HS Stadium) - across from the athletic center and new stadium Bring your own tailgate "goodies", and if you can bring some to share with those who can't bring stuff or who show up to watch, etc. All proceeds go to the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship...additional donations gladly accepted. Game is "On" rain or shine...so please show up regardless of the weather. I do have an alternative site lined up with an artificial turf field should the weather conditions deteriorate such that we simply cannot use UNT facilities. Thanks again to our sponsors: Tune Family (yes, THAT Tune family) Scott Hall and Matheus Lumber Mark & Susan Miller Smitty - for the great artwork on the logo Anonymous Let's have a great time and raise a bit of money for the scholarship...MEANGREENBOWL 7 is ON!!!! See you Saturday/tomorrow.

Excellent News! Congratulations to RV on a job well done. Well deserved extension. I only wish it were for a longer period of time, but and super happy to see the contract extension. RV has done more as athletic director than I even imagined he could do the day he was first announced as UNT's new athletic director. He said he would upgrade the facilities and the programs and he has delivered! Well done. Thank you so very much. GO MEAN GREEN!

Yes, plenty of parking...it was once a hs football stadium. OK, now you guys are breaking my heart with these questions as it indicates you have never been to a UNT soccer game! Maybe you will see how nice the place is and come back to support the soccer team...just saying! Lots of good parking, plenty of room, stands for "fans" and folks we have trapped into watching this spectacle, etc. I think folks, who have not seen the complex, will like what they see. I will, of course, have to mark off the field with flags and cones as soccer fields do not come with football markings. Imagine that!
-
Great...thanks. With the cones, footballs, etc. I think we are good to go. I received confirmation today from the Athletic Dept. that the soccer complex will be open by 2PM on Saturday. My bride and I should be at the field by 2PM to start marking it off with cones and marker flags as soccer fields are not lined for football (imagine that!) Game Time: 3PM Location: Soccer Complex at UNT on Bonnie Brae across from the Athletic Facility building and Victory Hall Field Open: 2PM (if you can be there a bit early it will help with shirt distribution, etc.) Cost: $25 per player - additional scholarship donations welcome, of course. After-game Event: Bring your own stuff and bring some to "share" if you can... Mandate: Have Lots of Fun!
-
The soccer complex is the old Liberty Christian School field just on Bonnie Brae across from the Athletic Building and football practice fields at UNT. Yep, shirts and donation to the scholarship fund is $25.00. I have the shirts and they look great!

Yes, it is looking more and more like a rainy weekend. Actually, the rain is to start tonight (Wed.) and drip or pour on us all through the weekend. BUT, the science of weather forecasting is not precise as we all know by now, so I am keeping my fingers crossed while we look for an alternative location. I have a couple in mind, but they also are grass fields. I have checked with a local HS or two with turf fields, but so far no luck. I am still trying. Be that as it may, looks like we play rain or shine as the logistics of a re-schedule would be a bit much to overcome. I know how busy schedules are and recall the "fun" we had just selecting the 15th. So, put your rain boots on, grab an umbrella for those watching and we'll kick-it off at 3PM Saturday...hopefully at the soccer complex...stay tuned. Ha!

Two freshmen at that. Man, this bodes well for the UNT golf program. GO MEAN GREEN!

Drill Here Drill Now!
KRAM1 replied to eeally's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Silver, even for you this is a bit much. Come on, next you'll be telling us yesterday's tornado in Oklahoma was somehow the fault of the Republicans. Perhaps you jest just to get a reaction? -
Yep, she is against DADT, but in actuality she really did not try to block military recruiters at Harvard. Today's Wall Street Journal has a pretty good (OK, a bit biased perhaps given the writer) article about that issue. I find it disturbing that Harvard took the position they did, but Kagan did not initiate that policy. However, she did favor its enforcement or so it seems. She seems to have just "gone along with the crowd" on that issue, and THAT is a bit of a concern to me. I think this pick gets confirmed by the Senate fairly quickly and without that much debate or controversy. Too bad. For me another liberal on the bench is a bad thing! But, I know others will champion the selection. Just not much real "data" out about this pick and that's why she was selected. Political move to get the process completed before the mid-term elections.

Want everyone to know that I picked up the game T-Shirts yesterday and they look great! We have the GMG.Com Bowl logo on the front (Thanks to Smitty for a great design), every one's GMG.com "name" on the back along with Andrew Smith's #12 on the back of every shirt. I can order additional shirts for anyone who is not playing (or playing and would like another) as long as the order is 12 shirts or more. So, let me know if you want one...or two...or three....and I can order. I'll take additional orders on game day as well. $25 per shirt...I know that's an expensive T-shirt, but the proceeds go to the scholarship fund. If you want a shirt, let me know and I'll order when the total gets to 12 or more. You can PM me your size...the extra shirts will be green with the logo on front and the #12 on the back without a GMG.com name. OK, now for some planning... 1) If you have not already paid for your shirt, please bring $25 with you and we'll collect at game time. 2) We need to remember the football/s by those who volunteered to bring the game ball/s 3) We could use some cones to mark off the field a bit...anyone have any available cones we could use? 4) The BIGGIE!!!! RAIN is in the forecast as a possibility for Saturday. I understand this game is played "rain or shine", but wet field conditions bring up the possibility that the good folks at UNT "close" the field to us. I have sent a message to the athletic dept. reminding them to unlock the field for us and have not heard anything back. So, am assuming all is well at this point. I will look around for an alternate site "just in case". 5) Please arrive at the field a bit early so we can sort out the rules, doing any field "marking" that needs to be done, distribute the flag belts (thanks again to our anonymous donor for the belts), and distribute the game shirts and collect funds...REMEMBER...additional scholarship donations are allowed! Thanks to all. I am looking forward to a great Saturday afternoon! See everyone Saturday...

Are you forgetting what all those early deals made with the referee will mean for your Green Team????

Is There Reason For Hope For Unt Football ?
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep, that always works. I tend to think this sort of attitude is just a cover excuse for some other reason. It takes a pretty big ego to think one's not attending games would even be noticed at a time when attendance is actually on the upswing. Anyway, point is, if UNT is your school, then you support it through thick and thin the best way you can. Not everyone can attend games in person, but there are countless other ways to support UNT and the program through the Alumni Association, the Mean Green Club, your academic department, the UNT Foundation, the Office of Development and on and on and on. Heck, one can even designate their support, if it is of a financial nature, to a certain program like soccer or track and field or tennis, etc. if you are so down on the football program. But, I have never understood why one's support for their university is in any way tied to the won-loss record of the football, basketball or any other athletic program. That simply doesn't equate for me. -
Can you spell "non-revenue sport"? It's too bad, I get it as I am a big soccer fan. At least you still have men's track and field. UNT killed the men's soccer program due to Title IX as did many other universities. Resources are definitely a problem for all the non-revenue sports. I wonder what the giving is like for alums and letter-men from the non-revenue sports? Sometimes the squeaky wheels get some of the grease, and in college athletics money/donations = grease. As to the fan support and board chatter thing. Well, you mention this was you first post, Welch. Where have you been? Many of us, even those who live in Denton, don't get much news or PR about the program. If supporters of the program posted a bit more on here, maybe more folks would be able to attend or take notice. I support all the programs at UNT and provide some level of "un-designated support" which I believe the dept. can use wherever they see fit. I believe some of that money goes to the non-revenue sports like track and field, does it not? I welcome your posts on track and field, and will look forward to learning more about the program. While not a big fan of track and field, I do support UNT and would welcome knowing more about local events. Congrats to all the qualifiers for UNT at this weekend's conference championships.

Is There Reason For Hope For Unt Football ?
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Your last sentence says it all for me. We may disagree on the degree of "rebound" to positive results this next season, but "being there" and supporting the team is what matters in the end. The Mean Green Nation may disagree on many things when it comes to the current state of the football program, but support for the program is a must. Even if one cannot be in the stands in person on game day, they can support the program in school in so many other ways. Appreciate the support, UNT90, now if I can only get you to drink more of that Green Kool-Aid! -

Well, better late than never, I guess...Happy Birthday, Joe. Thanks for all your support for UNT and the community of Denton!

I like this one! I gave you a +1 for the thing. But, who you calling old, you little whipper snapper? When you grow up you can use real words and not just post pictures. Glad you caught the "grammer". Tests are fun too. -

And this is the grammer you are so proud to display and so quick to beat up on others when they play this game? -
Substitue coach maybe???? Just kidding, it's family and your daughter's game takes priority, but then again.....
