Getting plenty of views...anyone have any ideas or any solid leads?

Interesting. Again, however, is that law one that "should" be on the books? If one is a citizen of the US (presumably a requirement to be able to vote) wouldn't it be important to learn the language in order to actually be an "informed voter"? In the case of the Kickapoo, well, maybe an exception for "Native American Languages". They were here first!

I know of a current walk-on football player who is looking for a part-time summer job in the Denton area. If anyone knows of an available position please send me a PM (personal Message). GO MEAN GREEN!

North Texas' Blueprint For A .500 Season
KRAM1 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Makes some excellent points. Especially good write-up on the D side and special teams. Loved the look at the game by game situations. Yes, Mean Green fans, there is plenty of reason to hope for a 6 win (maybe more) season. No matter what, it's going to be great to be in the stands for six home games this the last year in the venerable old Fouts Field. Let the memories flow, but let the victories be this year! -
So, should we have a discussion on the requirement to learn English? If so, could we do it in a civil manner? I am puzzled by the need some folks have to make certain that all official documents are in English and Spanish. Seems we are one of the very few nations that thinks that is a necessity. It also humors me that ballots are printed in both English and Spanish. Shouldn't one learn the language before qualifying to vote? Just asking the question. I know it is very expensive to have to print things in two languages. If it is private industry and they want to do that, OK, great. Such is the case in a few other countries with menus, instructions, etc. But with taxpayer dollars are we being fiscally responsible or not? I only ask the question as some on the board seem to have some pretty "hot opinions" on the whole subject one way of the other. The whole issue pretty much "goes away" when/if the federal government actually takes responsibility for one of the areas actually given to it by the Constitution. Seems to me the federal government likes to abdicate responsibilities in areas it should actually be responsible for while poking its nose into plenty of areas where the 10th amendment says it should not be dealing. So, anyone care to weigh in without having to use foul language or get personal...or to blame Bush somehow for this mess.

Oh, so little faith in the Mean green from Watson. The Mean Green will just have to prove him wrong on the field. I do, however, agree that the defense is where the Mean green must improve this season to make a run at a bowl game. Can they do it? Yep, can do, and I am thinking that we'll see a much improved defense on the field this season. GO MEAN GREEN!

It would definitely be good to see more local players wearing the Green. Would also bring a few more "locals" out to watch the games as well. A double win for the Mean Green!

Sure, I'd be up for a Mean Green Night. I could probably even get my bride to come with me...given that it is on a Friday or Saturday night. You know how long baseball games can take, so she would definitely not go on a work-night. Bring on Mean Green Night! Do they have beer at the ballpark?????? What's baseball without a cold beer? Just asking!

In light of the fact that Mexico is upset with Arizona's new immigration law, and that the Mexican President blasted it during his state dinner last evening, it might be interesting to read about Mexico's immigration laws. A friend sent this to me yesterday. You might want to read the listed 10 items. If these are correct, sure smacks as a double-standard to me. But, also shows that Mexico has a bit "stricter" policy in force. The 10 items are, obviously paraphrased, so my "friend" might be a bit over-zealous in his interpretations, but one gets the drift. 1 There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2. GREAT IDEA! Way to go Athletic Dept!

Army of Dad...excellent point about the kids games...will keep that in mind. Appreciate the help. It is looking like there just might be enough interest to get this thing going. I'll start doing some preliminary work and let everyone know if it works out...if anyone has ideas for dates/times that might be better than others based on experience, just PM me. Also...if we have folks interested in helping or being a team coach, etc. please PM me...can't have too much help or too many volunteers. Please keep posting your interest level and ideas. Plenty of time to make things work.

Perhaps a scholarship in his name at UNT rather than just sending someone the cash. Open for discussion for sure. CMJ, would you be willing to participate in the game? Wanting to gauge interest in the game first, details we can certainly work out if we, in fact, have enough solid interest to pursue the game.

OK, I am a bit more than concerned by people in very prominent positions within the current administration criticizing Arizona's new Immigration Law BEFORE READING IT! Today, Homeland Security Secretary and ex-Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano joined Attorney general Eric Holder and State Dept. spokesman, P.J. Crowley in admitting they had not read the new law BEFORE going on television and criticising it. I don't care if they support or oppose the new law once they have taken the small amount of time it takes to read the thing. I know, I read it, it doesn't take long. Arizona is facing a backlash from several quarters after passing the new law (which they say they did only after the refusal of the federal government to take any substantive action regarding reform which was promised to take place immediately upon the inauguration). Even Frito-Lay is getting hit with negative press for their sponsorship of the Fiesta Bowl. And, then there was the question to Miss Oklahoma during the Miss USA pageant...good grief! I think this sort of response from high ranking administration officials is not only dangerous, but arrogant and stupid. It is political pandering at its worse, and it is too bad that it has happened. Like the new law or not, that is 100% beside the point here, if you are a person in an official capacity of one form or another, at least read and understand something BEFORE you go public! I can only imagine what the press would be doing to our previous administration had they acted this way. Why can't we elect and appoint government officials who act in a professional manner? Seems to be a trend here, and not a very positive one. Too bad. So very many opportunities to really lead here have been missed.

So, being the glutton for punishment that I must surly be, I was talking to my bride after the just concluded GMG.com Bowl 7 game, that maybe we should have a GMG.Com Basketball game as well. No need to worry about the weather for this one, so one variable is out. I would be willing to put something together if there is enough interest. I would think we could reserve a court at the UNT rec center, get some refs and get it on. Could use the proceeds for additional funding to the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship or start a new fund more basketball related. As far as tailgating goes for this, we could adjourn to a local watering hole for after-game merriment....such as the very UNT supportive Pourhouse or someplace closer to UNT. Maybe get some discounted drinks, etc. I know it's early, but just wanted to gage interest before I go any further out on the proverbial limb with this. What do you think? Do we have enough BB folks, co-ed, of course, who might be interested? I would think sometime during Jan. or Feb. for this event, and on a Saturday afternoon. What say you?

Tech Folks Say Mac Rather Than The Belt If No Cusa
KRAM1 replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I am wondering if this comment should apply in theory to UNT as well at the moment? I still see way too many "other" school t-shirts, jackets and caps being worn around campus, and see way too many empty seats at football and basketball games these days. I think, as members of GMG.com and the Mean green nation, if we couldn't do more to raise awareness of the great things happening at UNT these days and to help get other UNT Alumni and friends to buy season tickets and come to games? There isn't much I can do on the student attendance side, but I know I can do more on the alumni and "friends" side. Just think of the positive influence we would have if every "frequent poster" here on GMG.com actually bought season tickets and helped to persuade one other person or one other couple to buy season tickets as well. If you buy football but not basketball season tickets, think about adding basketball...if you buy basketball, but not football season tickets, think about adding football. If you cannot, think about attending a game or two each season and joing the Alumni Association and/or the Mean green Club to show your support. Numbers do count. In this case SIZE DOES MATTER! If you have season tickets and cannot attend a game (football or basketball) do what you can to get the tickets into the hands of someone who can and will use them. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, please consider joining. There have been lots of positive changes made within the Association within the last few years. If you are not a member of the Mean Green Club, please consider joing. As with the Alumni Association, the Mean green Club is doing some very positive things these days. Jon Burkett does a fine job and the pre-game club gatherings are really fun. WE can help UNT become it's school's favorite team. With the new stadium and a much improved team, the "selling" might just get a lot easier and the day in and day out support might just grow as well. GO MEAN GREEN! -
Very nice write-up of the game. Many thanks to EagleTalk for getting this out. Perhaps it will awaken some folks to this game and we will have an even bigger turnout for GMG.com Bowl 8. Believe it or not, it's already being worked on...got some new ideas for an even bigger/better event next year. Thanks again to all...cannot wait to see the photos UNT90's lovely "lady friend" took of the game. Will be much better than the ones I took for sure!
-
OK, folks, did the best I could in adding some photos from the event. These are not, obviously, the professionally done photos that I hope to see one day soon, but the ones my bride and I took with our little digital camera. But, I think you can see that a good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone...great day...great folks! GO MEAN GREEN!

Well, I guess someone has to post it...might as well be the "commissioner"... Green Team 40 - White Team 26, but whose counting? The very good news is that the game raised $1400.00 AFTER expenses for the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship. I believe that to be one of the largest amounts to date, so my thanks to one and all for a great event. Cannot believe what great weather we had after the dire forecasts, but you know, there just can't be rain on the GMG.com Bowl!!! I cannot wait to see the photos of the event. Actually has a professional photographer out for the game (thanks UNT 90) who took a ton of photos, so the truth will come out in photos. Thanks to all our sponsors, to all who played and to those who provided additional scholarship monies yesterday at the game. Thanks to the families and friends who came out to watch the game, and to provide the GREAT brisket for everyone after the game. Cannot forget the excellent links being shared as well. Plenty of food and adult beverages to share after the game made for a super end to a super day. The photo of the stadium that KingDL1 took from the air last Saturday was great and I went to the deck at the athletic facility after the game for a new look-see of the stadium. man, lots of work, and it is really looking great. I took the stadium photo over to RV's house after the game and he was very pleased to get the photo, but seemed disappointed that he didn't know about the game. He said he would have liked to have stopped by, and also said he would help with next year's game if we wanted to try to round up some more "exes" like Scott and Andy for the game. He was very appreciative of the photo from KingDL1 and very grateful for the donation to the scholarship fund. OK, how do I lean to cook brisket like yesterday's? And, I have to get some of those links that UNT90 was cooking...Links, brisket, beer and football with the Mean Green Nation...it just doesn't get much better than that! Thanks so much to everyone for making this event so much fun and so successful. I can't wait for GMG.Com Bowl 8. It will be even bigger and better I am sure! We'll get some photos posted here soon...BTW, Scott hall can still throw and Andy can still catch...I think my bride has a crush on Andy!!!!!

http://www.wimp.com/solutionoil/ OK, simple solution. This starts out looking like a joke...but check out what two good creative Southern Boys have come up with to help clean the crap up. This is pretty simple stuff when you think about it. But, since this is too simple and wasn't thought up by some government baccarat or high paid scientist somewhere, it will probably never see the light of day. However, i sure hope it does. Pretty interesting. I hope the link works. Never underestimate the greatness of the American entrepreneur! -
Indeed it is! BTW...I have received notice that UNT88 has pulled a muscle in his back and will be unable to play today...in fact he can barely get out of bed...so, send your best wishes to UNT88 for a speedy recovery. We will miss him today, but I'll have an adult beverage in his honor!

I hate to say it, but "stuff" happens. This is a terrible accident that, like most accidents, when the after event finger pointing starts there were plenty of reasons found for the event that, if corrected or handled differently in the first place, would have prevented the event from taking place. Too bad, and it is just as bad that the finger pointing starts, that politics come into play (and man have they ever) and all the special interest folks start trying to do the "I told you so thing". This is so tiring. Instead of marshaling all resources to "fix" the leak and mitigate the damage we spend time finger pointing, playing the blame game and publicly bashing everyone involved except of course those of your like thinking. So very childish. What will come of this is, hopefully, some new ideas and new ways to prevent such things from happening in the future or, should they happen, to "clean them up" better and faster. It does not make anyone, including the president of this great nation of ours, look good going around acting mad and pointing fingers. There is plenty of blame, if that is your game, to go around from the public to the private sector. Fair enough, but now "SHUT UP" and get the thing fixed, cleaned up and move on. For some folks it is always great to have someone to blame for everything, except themselves, of course. -
Game on! See everyone at 3:00PM today (hopefully a bit before 3 so we can sort all the game day details before kick-off at 3PM)...if you need to contact me for any reason you can try my cell phone...I'll try to have it with me and even turned on (which, if you know me you know that is a very rare thing indeed). Cell number is 972-528-8567

Good run for the ladies of the Mean Green. I think the future looks bright for tennis at UNT. The team and school and fans should all be proud of this program. I see a run deeper into the NCAA's next year. Well done ladies!
