  1. WOW...Just WOW! The US again goes down a goal in the first 15 min. of a game...then goes 2 goals down before half. Played a "rubbish" game in the first half, and then comes out smokin' in the second half with an early goal from Donovan and a brilliant goal from Bradley to tie the game. Then the US gets "reffed" out of a goal for the winner late. Game ends 2-2 as a "victory" of sorts for the US and a real downer for Slovenia. However, both teams are now still in the hunt for the round of sixteen. The second half was absolutely exciting soccer from start to finish. I have to say, the referee was absolutely rubbish in this game from start to finish. The Slovenians got card after cared and Findley (US squad) got a yellow for a hand ball that was a stupid call by the ref. The guy should not work any more World Cup games as a center ref. He can do a line or 4th official, OK, but the center...no way. I would imagine that his work will be reviewed by FIFA this evening and we may not see him in center again. The ref was "rubbish" just as the US team was in the first half. What is it with these guys that they don't seem to even start to play until they are at least one goal down? They won't go too deep (if they get out of the first round) with ties and allowing early goals to always have to play from behind. Man, what a super second half. If you didn't get to see it live you really missed something. USA-USA-USA!!!!!! Now, US must beat Algeria to have a shot at the round of sixteen. Man, be still my heart!
  2. Just read my post. Sources...you don't need no sources. If I rat them out, they'll be sources no more.
  3. Well, my "source" is well placed, so I'm thinking, yep, it's Houston, but, as we all know, things can change between now and then. However, like the opponent or not, it's time to stop all the whining and get behind the program. I know that whatever decision is made that there will probably be a 50/50 split between those who like the decision and those who don't. Seems that no matter what decisions are made about 50% seem to find some reason to not like it or have some problem with it. Time to think positive and think "bigger". UNT CAN beat Houston and Houston does bring some "quality" to the opponent. Heck, some here on the board even think Houston is Big XII "ready". They may not "travel well", but they darn sure travel better than Middle Tennessee, Florida International, ULL, etc., etc., etc. Much can be done between now and game day to make this a very very special event indeed. GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT HOUSTON!!!!!
  4. US goes against Slovenia at 9:30AM this morning...BIG game...US needs a win or a draw out of this thing. By the way, the Germans are down 0-1 and are playing with 10 men after an early red card on a late tackle from the rear. It will be tough for the German to beat Serbia with 10 men. The Serbs have a pretty darn good team. USA...USA...USA!!!!!!
  5. The complaining, cry baby act, flopping, etc. that takes place in soccer is not near as much as goes on in professional basketball these days. It is bad, and does no sport any good. However, if you really understood the "laws of the game" as they are used in soccer...even if you swing or kick at a player and miss, it is a red cardable offense. Unfortunately the player from Nigeria went too far in his swing and kick at the Greek player. If you actually watched, you wiould have seen the Greek player push the ball ibnto the chest of the Nigerian player, then the Nigerian player retaliates with a bit of a swing and kick. Both potential red card offenses. Do i think that the ref could have used a bit more descretion and perhaps issued a yellow instead, yes, but he called it a red and that was it. I don't know of anyone who enjoys the flopping, crying, etc., but, in reality, there has been much less so far in this World Cup than in the last. The Centarl and South American teams are the masters at the flop...just wait until the next rounds. When you get the flopping, crying, etc., etc. out of the NBA come tell me again how bad it is in the soccer world.
  6. OK, so I hear this rumor that UNT has set the opponent for the first game in the new stadium and it is...drum roll please.........HOUSTON! So, not a bad set up for the first game. A Texas school with dreams of developing into a BCS player, an improving program and one that UNT can beat! It will not be a "walk-over" game, which I am very happy about, it is a bit of a "name" and it is a Texas school that should help bring some fans and have a bit of excitement to lend to the game. So, if the rumor is true, what do you think? Me, I like the decision and the match-up even if it is not one of the service academy schools that I had hoped to see....I'm good with Houston and the Cougars...BEAT HOUSTON...GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Interesting how some transfers, HS players and HS coaches look at UNT given the negativity spewed by some it its more "vocal fans" every chance they get. Seems to me that UNT is being seen as better and better and a quality option for some players and coaches. I really like this sort of statement from a kid and tend to believe that it bodes well for the way the program at UNT is heading. GO MEAN GREEN!
  8. Nice indeed. New stadium already paying dividends for the Mean Green. Now if UNT's "supporters" would just up their support and attendance to match. GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. Absolutely clueless comment from eulessismore. If you don't "get it", great, but don't show your complete ignorance regarding the world's most popular sport with such comments. If you don't like it, don't watch it. No one is forceing you to watch. In the meantime, I'll keep watching with the rest of the world. Maybe you can find a good cockfight or dog fight there in Euless you can understand better!
  10. May God bless us with the event that all this conference realignment BS just stop! That would be right up there with World Peace!
  11. I give this signing a big thumbs up! I would have given it two thumbs up, but it's another foreign-born athlete taking a scholarship away from a kid born in the US and wanting to develop at the college level. College tennis is really getting out of hand with all the foreign-born players. Just hard to develop American kids when tons of the scholarships go to foreign-born players. Too bad, but it is the way it is in college tennis these days. Nadia in from the UK. Her recruiting video is available. Just Google "Nadia lee" and you will find it. This looks to be a solid signing that will help UNT tennis continue to get stronger. Someday maybe Sujay will sign a US kid and give her a chance. Could happen. Go Nadia...Go Mean Green! Welcome to the Mean Green nation!
  12. Good luck to both. Good to see Mean Green coaches getting noticed.
  13. Should have been 2-0 to the Swiss. The Swiss goalkeeper was outstanding! BIG UPSET!
  14. Once more, I ask...where did the $500,000 for baseball come from and how does one know it really still exists if it ever did?
  15. Interesting that one jumps immediately to the conclusion that UNT is not doing much. My guess is that UNT is doing quite a bit and that unless one is involved in the process they really have no clue. And, if anyone thinks Houston is going immediately to the Big XII or whatever it will be called now, they may have to throttle back those hopes...at least for awhile. The reports I have read say that, for now, the Big "Whatever" is fine with ten members. But, to the bigger issue. These type of comments do absolutely no good, and are a reflection of the "stinking thinking" (to borrow a phrase from Zig Zigler) so prevalent in may of UNT's so-called fans. The first thought is not that UNT is probably working behind the scenes very diligently to keep track of all that is going on, but rather that UNT is probably doing nothing because there is some report that some other school is doing this or that. Good grief. I think the powers that be at UNT are very wise to keep their traps shut about what they are or are not doing when it comes to possible conference realignment. When/if the time comes to go public, they will. All the BS coming out of Aggieland recently about playing second fiddle to UT and how they may bolt to the SEC, etc. really made the Aggies look good now that they have decided to "stay" with the remaining ten schools. They would have been better served to work behind the scenes, do their homework and when fully prepared make a statement. Now, it looks like they have accepted their role as "underling" to UT. Until UNT fans, students and supporters think and act like UNT is a quality and Big Time program no one else will take UNT that seriously. This challenge goes right to the heart of the matter and each and every person who wants UNT to progress in a positive way CAN help make that happen. Believing UNT is second class will not help!
  16. Just asking...where did the $500,000 come from, and how do you know it's still there waiting? If true, this is a good start...why don't all the folks who want baseball back at UNT start a fund and start pouring in the money to make it happen? Seriously, if the supporters of baseball really stood up and opened their pocketbooks, it could really set UNT up to roll with baseball in a big way from the start.
  17. Why, he's got you doing it for him for free. You should send him a bill for your services. While you are at it, how about getting him to ship a few million to UNT.
  18. As far as it goes, I think Vito is 100% correct in this article about a possible coach for UNT. Do you think he's coach men's soccer too? OK, I have a name of a guy perfect for Men's Soccer...DAVID HUDGELL. Currently coaches for the Dallas Texans and was once an assistant men's soccer coach at UNT.
  19. Yep, and several billion $$$$ to prove it! It's just Boone being Boone.
  20. Like I said...who cares? He is not part of the UNT program. He chose to quit and leave the program and his scholarship. His call...he made it...who cares..."the King is dead, long live the King", etc. I wish him no ill will and hope the best for him, but not really interested in what or how he is doing with any other football team. Kid quit on UNT, for whatever reason. UNT has QB's on its roster and those are the QB I care about! GO MEAN GREEN!
  21. UNT's future is in UNT's hands. SMU and, for that matter, no other school can dictate UNT's future other than UNT and its fan base. If the alums finally start stepping up and recognizing that they are actually part of the solution instead of "dissing" UNT every chance they get, finding every lame excuse in the world why NOT to support their university and acting like they are from some other university then and only then will UNT see its fortunes really start to improve. RV has done more than one really could have expected in improving the athletic facilities at UNT, and the students have stepped up with a fee increase to help make it happen. So, it's really time for the fan base and alumni to "put up or shut up". UNT alums who own companies and/or hold executive level positions in companies need to step up and provide financial support, alums need to join the Mean Green Club and the Alumni Association, alums and fans need to buy season tickets and make donations at any level they can to academic departments and scholarships, students need to actually start coming to games...all this stuff helps move the program forward. If all you can do is donate $15-25 then do it...numbers count and dollars add up. It's not about the size of the donation or the support, it's about the support. A $25 donor if that is what he/she can do is just as important in my book as the $5-25,000+ donor. It is also time that UNT alums and supporters stop thinking and acting like UNT is some small no-name school with some suspect academic credentials. When this happens, UNT will get the respect it deserves and will truly start to matter in the local landscape...SMU, etc. has absolutely no say in this. It's all in those who support UNT hands. Will you join? GO MEAN GREEN!
  22. No, actually, I was wide awake...I didn't need anything like a baseball game to put me to sleep. Just "confused" my Eastern Europeans a good bit. Hard to tell them apart without a scorecard these days!
  23. So very sorry.....lost my head there for a moment. "Serbia/Slovenia" .... my mistake.
