Good News...the season is getting closer and closer. The date of this year's Mean Green Kick-Off Cookout and 5K run has been announced as August 21st. The 5K starts at 8:00am and the Cookout...scheduled as a breakfast this year...starts at 9:00am in the concourse at Fouts Field. Can't wait. This should be a great event...as always. Hope to see you there.

Strasburg And Stanton

And the whine continues. Amazing how the turnout for the game was excellent including our "celeb players", and that donations exceeded all past year games even due to its being scheduled against graduation. You seem to forget that I did not pick the day for the game...convenient memory loss for sure...it was the result of a vote of the participants. Get over it. You were not the only person who had a conflict that day, yet you are the only one who continues to whine and whine about it. I get it, you couldn't play, you had a conflict. Your high and continued whine reminds me of the Florida vote in a not too long ago election. The election was held, your date lost by a wide margin. Sorry, It happens. So, go ahead and give me your schedule now for next year so I can schedule it 100% around your schedule. I am sure you'll become a title sponsor as a result. -
Well, while my thoughts and prayers still go out to the Brown family, it appears that early reports were a bit misleading with this story. I cannot imagine how this must be to handle by Chief Brown. Being the police chief of Dallas and having your son kill a cop has got to be very very challenging to handle. I would not be surprised if Chief Brown took a leave of absence and maybe never returned as Dallas Police Chief. How do you command a police force when your son was a cop killer? Maybe Emmitt and/or Rudy could give us some better perspective on this. Man, I pray for all the victims of this horrible situation, including the Brown family. Everyone involved needs our prayers. Please pray for all the families involved in this horrible situation.

Tough for a small mall to compete when you have Dallas sitting right down the road. Not to mention Vista Ridge, Stonebrier, the Galleria, etc., etc. Golden Triangle just isn't big enough to support full size stores. Even the selections in macy's, etc. are different from the selections you get in stores at larger malls. My wife and I try to support the mercahnts at Golden Triangle Mall, but often we are left to have to go elsewhere because of size and selection cahllenges with the selections at Golden Triangle. We'll keep trying to support the mall and all local Denton businesses and hope Golden Triangle makes it. But, if you have been in Golden Triangle recently you will definitely know what I mean. Once a mall starts to decline, it is very difficult to rebound.

Number 1...No posts from me in this thread up to this point. Number 2...Wow Number 3...I have no problem at all being grouped with UNT90. He made the effort to help with the GMG.com Bowl 7, donated to the scholarship fund, set up his grill and shared his great eats with anyone and everyone, played in the game and even brought his significant other to the game to take photos of it all. Also buys season tickets, attends games and supports UNT with his money and his time. Number 4...didn't see you helping or joining in at all...not even a donation to the scholarship fund as several others found a way to make happen who couldn't make it to the game. So, want to put me in there with UNT90...great. I'll see that as an honor as UNT90 actually does more than talk a good game. I don't have to agree with every posts he makes to know he is a great member of the Mean Green nation. -

Unt To Hire Consultant To Look At Athletics Program

More Marketing and PR is generally a good idea. Seems many folks here have been talking about doing more to raise awareness of the greatness that is UNT around the metroplex. Nice to see that those views are being shared by some folks who can actually make it happen. Good news just keeps coming. -

And to think that all this was started by my really very harmless comment about Greece and entitlements. Sigh! Amazing what gets folks excited in the off-season, isn't it? I'll be in Athens in September, maybe we can set up a UNT tailgate at the Acropolis. -

As suspected, Coulibaly will work as the 4th official in the Italy-New Zealand game. He can't do much damage there, so he should have no effect on the outcome of the game. -

Why is Greece off limits? Don't take it personal but Greece is a society full of the "entitlement mentality". If you don't understand that, I would be very surprised. Part of Greece's economic challenges is how to deal with the bloated entitlement programs. No, not the entire reason for the challenges Greece has been facing, and all the lovely street rioting and protesting of weeks past, but a major challenge none the less. A challenge the US is facing to a much greater extent every year. You may be the resident Mean Green "expert" on Greece but that hardly means you are the only one here who has a bit of knowledge concerning the current situation and why Greece finds itself there today. We should all watch the situation closely and hope Greece finds a way to stave off increasing economic challenges. If they can't, it is likely that Europe and the Euro will feel the pain for a long time to come. Glad to see that most of the other Euro countries came to Greece's aid with a bailout of sorts to stabilize the situation. We'll see if it "sticks". I certainly hope so, but since I'll be in Greece in September, I wouldn't mind the Euro staying a bit "weak" against the dollar. Don't get too excited Tasty...no body is picking on Greece. -
very nice and great to see the positive PR. Congrats to Draylen.

Please do tell what conflicting reports you have heard from me???? This is the first mention I have made of who the opponent may be for the first game. Don't see how that can be "conflicting reports". Please explain...you may be confusing me with someone else, sir!

Happy Father's Day To All
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
No, coming home after months in Iraq and getting to hold your son for the first time since he was about three years old., and getting to hug and kiss your wife again. And, knowing that you have something to fight for that is worth the sacrifice away from family, friends and the home you love so much. Sorry you missed the point. -
Not One Man One Vote Anymore

Nothing much coming out of Washington surprises me any longer. We have "lost" so much of what made this nation the greatest nation on earth. We are fast becoming a nation of entitlement and will soon find that America looks very much like France, Greece, etc. We are Black-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Gay/Lesbian-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc., etc. Get real...we are all Americans, not some hyphenated American sub group. Until we start to think and act like Americans one and all and stop finding some pet cause or some excuse to blame someone or call someone some "name", we will continue to fall further and further from the ideals that our founding fathers fought and died for so many years ago. -
World Cup Is Finally Here

That one is debatable in my eyes. He was going away from the goal or at least diagonal to it, so one could argue it was not a pure goal scoring opportunity. With that ref, there was no way he was going to see it as a red. I just still cannot believe the calls he made...both ways. I do think the FIFA ref group will be reviewing his work in this game and we may not see him center another in this World Cup. He does not deserve another game in my opinion...at center...he can line or 4th official all he wants, but no way he goes back into the center if I had a say. -
I like.

Happy Father's Day To All
KRAM1 replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just wanted to give a shout out to all Mean Green nation Fathers for their special day. The posted photo was taken of our son upon his return from the Middle East (Iraq). His son was about three weeks old when he left, and it looks like from his expression that he doesn't really know who that guy holding him at the moment is...Priceless. This is what fatherhood is all about. Happy Father's Day to all! Enjoy the day! -
World Cup Is Finally Here
KRAM1 replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The yellow to Findley was stupid. The guy got hit in the face with the ball and the ball bounced down off his face and hit his arm. He, in no way, "directed" the ball with his arm nor did he head the ball to his arm. I also agree that having Findley on the bench for game three is no big deal. So, no harm in that for me to see. I do think the ref was "card happy" in this game. He gave several out and more to the Slovenians than the US. I think at least a couple to the Slovenian side were also very questionable card offenses at best. I think this guy thought he was part of the "show" and wanted his 15 minuets of fame on the World Cup stage. You would expect much better from World Cup quality refs. He was bad and bad for both sides, but the call in the box on the "winning goal" was the worst such call I have seen at any level in any game for some time. Given that, however, the US made their own problems with a very very poorly played first half. RUBBISH is being kind and I am sure Coach Bradley told them so at half. The two subs at half as much said what he felt. Will be interesting to see how the US responds against Algeria. Pretty much a must win for the US. BTW...Algeria and England are tied 0-0 at the half. Hmmmmmmmmmm, is Algeria decent after all or is England going up there with Spain and France as the tournament underachievers????? Time will tell. Man, this is great stuff! -

Try ESPN and every channel during the evening news this evening. The sports discussion will probably show it over and over. It was THAT BAD of a call...and I am a referee, OK and admittedly, no where...repeat no where...near the quality of these guys, but still I've been doing it for twenty plus years now, and no way, NO WAY, I make that call even in an u-12 or U-19 game! The guy needs his head handed to him. You just have to think he had some sort of "issue" with the US squad to have blown that call so badly. RUBBISH! Lifer, terms like "rubbish" and "pitch" are standard nomenclature for futbol fans who enjoy and know the game. Every sport has their own "language", and it is simply part of what makes each unique. Glad you like them. -
Correct. And, football takes up tons of men's scholarships. That's one reason that Title IX is such a "screw-job" for men's athletics and male athletes. However, it did a great deal of good for women's athletics and was very successful in that light. However, like most labor unions, it's time has come and gone. Now, the powers that be need to look at some modifications to allow for expansion in places where it is appropriate. Like men's soccer and baseball for UNT. I have no problem with the positives Title IX has had on the scholarship landscape at most colleges. While many men's teams got eliminated and male athletes suffered, it was probably the "right" thing to do at the time, and the results have been, for the most part, very positive. But, I do think it is time to take a look and see how it might could be modified to better represent the landscape in today's college athletic world.
