  1. Bowl game hands down for me...but, I would be happy with either. GO MEAN GREEN!
  2. This is really geat...I do hope this works, the costs come down and it becomes affordable and workable on a large scale. I so hope this works out well. One can only imagine the possibilities this might open up for folks. WOW!
  3. If it "ain't" in Denton, it "ain't" a home game. It's that simple for me. I say "NO" to any so-called home games not being played in UNT's great new stadium IN DENTON. If it means we don't play OU, so be it. I could care less. It's Denton that's home to UNT (not Dallas, Not Arlington, etc.)...OK, even if Chancellor Jackson might not understand that concept fully. I suffered through the drive to Texas Stadium for UNT "home games" several years ago...never really felt like a home game and it had ZERO atmosphere. The idea about raising season ticket sales is a decent one. At OSU, if you wanted tickets to the OU game in Stillwater, you had to buy season tickets. NO single game tickets were available for the OU game. Interesting ploy...not sure I am a big fan of it UNLESS one routinely sells out the stadium for every game no matter who is playing as the opponent, but it did seem to get a few extra season tickets sold in Stillwater. I was told by a friend of mine in Stillwater that a couple of OU fans actually bought season tickets to the OSU games just to get tickets for the OU game. Think about that...they had to sit on the OSU side, but those folks don't much care as long as they get seats! Wouldn't it be great if the demand for UNT tickets was this big that opposing fans would buy season tickets just to get to watch their team play UNT once in an away game??? WOW...I wonder what they do with the remaining tickets? Re-sell maybe on the net?
  4. Just a bit of info for clarification purposes...these are not the STADIUM BRICKS...these are being sold to help finance the new Alumni Pavilion that will be part of the new stadium complex. There will be additional opportunities, as I understand it, to purchase stadium bricks. My bride and I will participate in that project as well as the Alumni Pavilion project. The costs associated with the bricks are such that lots of folks should feel comfortable helping both projects with a purchase. But, whatever one can do would certainly be appreciated. Every contribution of any size is needed and appreciated. GO MEAN GREEN...GO ALUMNI...
  5. My bride and I will definitely be participating in this very worthwhile project. All UNT alums should be proud to see the new Alumni Pavilion at the stadium when it is completed. It will be a great place for Alums to gather on game days and for other events. The possibilities for the pavilion and its use are almost endless. The stadium is opening up a great deal of new opportunities for many different organizations and events. If you ahve not joined the Alumni Association or have not checked into all the "new" things the Association is doing these days, then you are really missing out. The Alumni Association and its leadership have listened to alums and heard their concerns and are definitely doing something about it now and with plans for more to come in the near future. The Pavilion is just one of a long list of enhancements for your membership...another is the people now working for you through the Alumni Association. Great group.
  6. Happy B'day...appreciate all the great photo work and your participation in the GMG.Com Bowl. Make the day special...you own it!
  7. How about when the students actually start caring as well???? I still get mad walking around the campus seeing so many students wearing crap from other colleges and universities! Alums seem to outnumber students at every football and basketball game. That should never be the case. Increased support from both areas is what UNT needs. Alums should definitely donate more $$$$ than students to the program, but students should outnumber alums at all games and should be wearing UNT gear not some other random school's stuff.
  8. I received the same reply other than the added..."I'm very sorry that our company has upset the Mean Green fans. We have received quite a few emails today from you guys". It had nothing...NOTHING...to do with the licensing agreement, but rather everything to do with perceived demand and a pure business decision. UNT had nothing, as I suspected in the first place, to do with this...it was the business making a decision based on their own research. In thinking about this, I think it says something as well about the fan base, and something that we, as Mean Green fans, need to change. If there is a perception out there, real or not, that Mean Green fans and students don't buy and wear Mean Green gear, well, that is something we can all get involved in to help change. I am glad to see they will start carrying Mean Green gear and I am very pleased that they took the time to respond...and respond in the positive. Nice...now, they need a little "love" and support from the Mean Green nation when they do start carrying the gear in a few weeks. GO MEAN GREEN!
  9. Did not think Flyer was the SGA president. That, however, does not diminish all the great work he did to help get the vote passed. Without the work Flyer did, I doubt we would even have a "stadium" thread to discuss the new stadium. Way to go Flyer!!!!!!! Run for election and you have my vote in the bag! Oh, forgot to add...my bride and I signed up for Club Seats last week. Maybe now she won't take the car and leave me stranded to find a ride home after a rainy game! Yes, she did that on on more than one occasion...I have witnesses!
  10. OK, so I emailed, but "radio silence" so far. I hope to hear something soon in reply.
  11. Nice...one observation, however...the arena Navy has looks to hold about the same amount of folks as the Super Pit at UNT, and the crowd for a Navy game (student population about 4000) looked to be about the same as a usual crowd for a UNT game (student body over 30,000). Interesting, don't you think?
  12. Denton...I like very much and have lived in Denton for some 45 years, and helped raise our three kids in Denton It's like a lot of places, lots of good and some not-so-good thrown in to the mix. It is all about your attitude and what you make of it all. I don't care for the "no-business and no growth" attitude of many of the citizens of Denton and I am not a big fan of the "liberalness" of Denton as a whole, but it is all part of what makes Denton...well, Denton. And, if I love living in Denton, I must take the not so great (in my opinion) with the great. I try to help change Denton to a "better" Denton in ways that I can, but it's a tough fight. All the Fry Street and Razor Ranch stuff is just so typical of Denton. I just see it as part of the "charm". Denton is changing and the "no-change" folks are fighting to hold on as hard as they can, but they are losing their grip every so slowly and they know it...much like the folks in Plano, Frisco, Allen, etc., etc. did who had lived there forever and did not want their little slice of heaven to change and did all they could to stop the growth and progress. While Denton isn't in the Frisco or Allen modes it is changing...just like UNT is changing for the better. Sometimes the "locals" just can't see the change for all the positive progress going on. You got to love Denton to have lived in Denton as long as we have. Don't want to call any other place "home". I just wish some of the "crazies" would move along!
  13. I find this a bit hard to understand. If I have to email someone to get their side of the story I will, but it really should be posted here as we might be able to help get something done about it...I find that there are usually two sides to every issue like this, and each side seems to think the other is 100% to blame and not willing to compromise at all...thus little to nothing gets done, or there are "lower level" staff and employees working on it and the folks in charge really know nothing about it and when informed things get changed. Let's hope that is the case here...I'll email, but it should be posted here so one will know at least one side of the story...not necessarily the full story, but at least part. This is crazy that UNT gear is not being sold through this outlet!!! Simply crazy! But, who really knows until the rest of the story is told?
  14. I don't see this as a problem AT ALL! It opens up the seats further from the 50 to folks who will pay nicely for the seats, but less than those getting the 50 yard liners. You would still be paying $350.00 per seat along with a min. $500 donation to the Mean Green Club each year for the seats. That, on top of the "donation" for the right to buy the tickets. It pretty much insures that folks will buy the tickets for years and years to come. One will still pay $25K for the right to then purchase 2 tickets in the "best" seating area near the 50 yard line. If getting folks to pay $350 for a season ticket to see the Mean Green pay is in any way "going backwards" I fail to see it. This is a great opportunity for fans of the Mean Green. I hope every single Club Level seat is purchased as that will provide a good deal of fund to help support the stadium and the program. GO MEAN GREEN! Buy season tickets and donate to the stadium fund!
  15. Amazing what an "outsider" can see that many of the local folks can't seem to see. Great quote!
  16. My bride is signed up to attend for the first time this year and she is really loo0king forward to being there this year. She is usually out of town at some conference when it is held, but this year that is not the case. She really is looking to have a great time from all the stories she has heard. I think this is a great event for the ladies and I applaud the Athletic folks for making this happen every year and thank the players and coaches who make it so much fun. GO MEAN GREEN!
  17. Happy Birthday...hope to see you at a game or two this season...should be fun to see the MEAN GREEN WIN! Have a great B'Day...you own the day, so make it so!
  18. Let's clear up, a bit, the cost for Club Seats.. 1) In the Green Section (between the 35 yard lines) - $12,500 gift (one time) per seat payable over 5 years + min. $500 donation to Mean Green Club + Cost of tickets ($350 per seat per season) 2) In the White Section (Between the 15 and 35 yard lines) - $6250 gift per seat (one time) payable over 5 years + min. $500 donation to the Mean Green Club + Cost of tickets ($350 per seat, per season) 3) In the Silver Section (between the goal line and the 15 yard line) - $3,125 gift per seat (one time) payable over 5 years + Min. $500 donation to the Mean Green Club + cost of tickets ($350 per seat per season) You get: priority parking benefits, private elevator access, concierge service, access to club level 2 hours before kick-off, complimentary game-day buffet, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages throughout game, full cash bar, etc. It's a pretty sweet deal and reasonably priced compared to other stadium deals I am aware of around the country. To "reserve" a spot it only takes a commitment on your part and a $500 deposit. Your gift towards Club Level Seating is 80% tax deductible. This info is straight out of the most recent brochure regarding seating at the stadium.
  19. Good stuff and great to see some players getting well deserved recognition. Hopefully, even more will be recognized before next season. What I want to see is a bunch recognized as All-Conference and All-American AFTER this season for the job they did THIS season in helping UNT turn the corner to a winning program once again. Could very well happen! GO MEAN GREEN!
  20. I agree, but he should be given a bit of "counseling" from his boss. To say something like that is just plain STUPID and definitely not good for the hotel's business. Any Denton businessperson who let's this stuff pass from an employee is making a big mistake in my opinion. UNT is a big reason the hotel exists in the first place. Like it or not, UNT and TWU both generate a lot of occupancy for the local hotels. Employees saying negative things about one of the area's largest employers (whether they attend either of the universities or not) is simply BAD BUSINESS!
  21. All games are 0-0 at some point. Close doesn't count for much. Heck, even the octopus beat ya! If you followed the Spaniards at all, you could definitely predicted a 1-0 finish. Let then get up a goal and it can be pretty much over as they hold possession and defend. Not really great to watch if you are not a team fan, but effective none the less. As winners of the World Cup they can prove it worked for them.
  22. RV in fact did brave the rain as promised and was with us for the event. He made some comments about how well the stadium project was going and invited everyone out to look for themselves and see what's going on at UNT facilities-wise. Talked about the teams UNT has that are now ranked in the top within the nation and getting better. He encouraged everyone to help by buying season tickets, making their Mean Green Club donations, joining the Alumni Assoc., etc. He also discussed the new Alumni Pavilion that will be part of the new stadium complex. The best part was the ability to just have a one-on-one with him before and/or after he spoke. I had the opportunity to do so, and was very happy with the response he gave to my questions. I always find RV to be very open approachable. That's a lot more than many people can say about their school's AD.
  23. I wear UNT items quite often and I can recall VERY few negative comments. Most even remotely negative are from fans of other universities whom we play or have recently played. I find they are mostly in fun and just meant to be between two college sports fans. I don't get mad about it as I often have something in kind to say in return. Just having some fun and that's the way i see the comments from other fans. Now the comment from the Subway guy is different...I would have cancelled the order and walked out, but I would have gone a bit further. I would have called back and asked to speak to the owner...not the manager as you never know who that is. I would assume the owner would be interested in knowing that he has an employee that is losing him/her business. I would not try to get the offending employee fired as jobs can be tough for some to come by and that kid/person is obviously "less than intelligent", but I would want the owner to let him know that is a stupid thing to say to a customer wearing Mean Green gear. The employee may be needing a little "education". I am always proud to wear Mean Green/UNT gear...wherever I am. Was in Pensacola, Fl this last weekend for "Blue Angles Weekend" and was wearing a Mean Green shirt...got several positive comments by the way... GO MEAN GREEN!
  24. I bought two at the Denton Chapter Mixer last Thursday evening. Really nice. If you are not in the local area, you can purchase these on E-Bay and support scholarships at UNT. Proceeds go to the Alumni scholarship fund and will help support students attending UNT. In addition to the mug, the Chapter will have a "Fouts Farewell Tour" T-shirt and a commemorative poster available this year as well. We are hopeful to have all available and for sale at this years Kick-Off Cookout and before very home game this year! This is a great way to support UNT students and scholarships. The cost isn't great and the items honor Fouts and our last season before the new stadium opens. The mugs, T-shirts and posters will also make great gifts for alums, friends and family. Thanks to all for your past support and for the support you will certainly give this season as well.
